'UFC Countdown' 86 to 'Jackson vs Griffin' airs tonight on Spike TV

"Countdown to UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin" will air tonight at midnight on Spike TV, kicking off the promotional festivities for the long-awaited 205-pound clash between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin.
It's the main event that will headline the pay-per-view (PPV) show this Independence Day weekend from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And we can certainly expect fireworks.
Here's the description for the hour-long Spike TV special:
"Now that latest Ultimate Fighter® series has determined a winner, it's time for the coaches to get ready for their own test of skills. Go behind-the-scenes with defending UFC® Light Heavyweight title holder Rampage Jackson and Forrest Griffin as they train in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, respectively."
We will more than likely also get a behind-the-scenes look at the training camps for Ricardo Almeida and Patrick Cote -- two middleweights who will go toe-to-toe in the co featured bout of the evening to possibly determine the number one contender in the 185 pound clash.
To check out the complete UFC 86: "Jackson vs Griffin" card click here. Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of the main card action will the PPV telecast, which begins at 10 p.m. ET.
"Countdown to UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin" will re-air on July 2 at 9 a.m. ET and July 5 at 10 p.m. ET.

Remember the MFC fight that was going to keep Drew Fickett from competing against Jake Sheilds? Well that fight has been canceled also. in 1 month, Ficket managed to screw over 3 different organizations and cancel 3 fights.
This guy and his management should be banned from MMA!
Also, in sad news: Edison Drago got into a motor cycle accident and is in a coma. My prayers go out to him and his family.
In Other BAD mma news, Delaware is trying to Ban mma from the state all together!

In regards to Fickett, there is a phone interview on MMARATED.com with him. It is almost impossible to listen to the entire thing, very annoying to listen to that kid, pretty sure he is drunk during it.

Drew Fickett is a nut case..I remember in the last ADDCC that were in NJ..he went balls out drunk.. and almost got his frame beat in by some thugged out Brazilian dude.. I’m going nick name this fool. Drew Prickett.
John: Wow..You’err the first to let me know about Edison..sad. One more reason I’m not a motocycle fan. They look good and all..but the uglyist car will always beat the hottest bike. Safety first. I’m prays are with him.

This was taken in the city I live in about 10 minutes north of san jose. at 5:30 Cung starts takling about a possible fight with anderson silva and that they are in negotiations. I had it translated by a guy I work with!!!
Cung Le has been approaced by UFC to talk about a possible fight with Anderson Silva. But because Cung Le has a contract with Strikeforce, it’ll be up to Scott Coker to handle this one.

Very interesting Kevin. I hear he may fight Misake in the fall, but hey if they can find a way to book Anderson vs. Le, it takes precedent over anything…Keep me informed buddy!

sorry I copied the link and you can’t click on it, for typing so much, I’m not too computer savvy!
anyways, do any of you guys actually give goonzaga a chance against mccully? I personally don’t. He was irrelevant before and brought in to lose to Cro Cop. He landed a perfect kick that no one was expecting, I’ll give him that. But somehow that “kick heard round the world” propelled him to title shots and a lot of attention. Now he is right back where he started, and I think belongs…prelims that may not be aired. That all being said, I really want to see this fight, because something tells me it may be exciting!
On a different subject, I’ve got my week end all planned for vegas, but thursday is open. I fly in around 8 in the morning, any suggestions on what to do? I am flying over grand canyon and hoover dam on saturday and have reservations at Emeril’s delmonico steak house friday, I need suggestions from those of you in or have been to vegas! I wanted to tour the mmamania empire, but they never got back to me!

kevin, I’d take Gonzaga over McCully any day, via submission. While you’re in vegas, try out Keller’s place (Bouchon) for me and let me know how it is! lol. I’m a HUGE fan of this chef many refer to as the best in the world (only a few can match him from what I understand.)

wow chef, what a menu, I’ll put it on my maybe list. I’m the chef of the house, and it’s my type of place, but the wife may not like it. Gotta love the 20 dollar ham and cheese sandwich!

That’s the toned down version of what he does. Check out the French Laundry and Per Se websites for his 4 star restaurants!

Who are you rooting for to win Hell’s Kitchen? I’m pullin for sloppy ol’ Petrozza. Does anyone know if that is his real first name, or is this the first time on the show that they referred to someone by thier last name, possibly because they had two people with the same first name…

Honestly VM, I find that show to be ridiculous and I LOVE Ramsey. I wouldn’t let one of those “cooks” wash dishes for me. lol If you know anything about Gordon Ramsey, I find it very difficult to believe he would entrust one of his restaurants to anyone that isn’t top tier talent. My favorite shows of his are Kitchen Nightmares (both the U.S. and British versions) and a show of his called the “F” Word. I’ve worked lines for 20 years, and for experienced cooks to not be able to send out a single plate during service, even though it’s a new menu to them, is beyond belief. Don’t get me wrong in this, I’m not a Michelin 3 star chef, but I have gotten 3 stars from the N.Y. Times (travel section, mind you, for a place in Northern Neck, VA), so I feel safe to judge those cats in a harsh manner.

Despite the apparent lack of hype, I am still interested in this card. Forrest and Quinton should be a great fight, and I’m also looking forward to seeing what Cote has to offer against a bad stylistic matchup. Usually it’s the grapplers getting the better of the strikers though.

The odds to this fight have been staying at
Rampage: -260
Forrest: +200
I was just looking around on BoDog and saw that they have early lines listed for GSP/Fitch as well as Liddell/Evans. All the online bookies must like this 260/200 because for these fights the odds are:
GSP: -260
Fitch: +200
Liddell: -260
Evans: +200
I LOVE all of those favorite to win thier fights. My question is, out of the three +200 underdogs, which guy has the best chance at winning? I think that its a really tough question, because its hard for me to imagine one of them winning. I am sitting here trying to think of how they can win, but I just can’t see it.
I feel like I’ve said enough about Forrest/Rampage. To dumb it down, Rampage has KO power and a very good chin. Forrest has no KO power and a questionable chin. Forrest’s only shot at winning is to outwork Rampage for a decision. Forrest has never gone past the 3rd round. Rampage just went 5 with Hendo. The only question I got going into this fight it “Will Forrest make it out of the second round alive?”. Already bet on Rampage, and will be betting more. Just scoping the odds…
For GSP/Fitch, there is no aspect of the game that Fitch has an advantage over GSP, except for the intangibles, such as heart and mental toughness. Fitch is my boy and I’ll be rooting for him, but if Fitch wins, I will most likely lose money.
Chuck and Rashad. Sugar is NOT going to outstrike Liddell. So the only shot he has at winning is to take Chuck down and lay on him for 2 of the 3 rounds and then survive the final round. However, Chuck has a world famous sprawl and once taken down, he has an uncanny ability to stand right back up. That is, as long as he’s not fighting Rampage or Randy.
So, if I HAD to bet on one of the three to win, I would go with Fitch, because I see that fight having the potential to be back and forth and I really think that it will go at least 3 full rounds, which only gives the underdog more of an opportunity to pull of the upset.
Now, what do you guys think???
by ViolentMike on Jun 30, 2008 12:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree, out of all those picks the one with the best shot at an upset is Fitch.

VM: u r thinking too far down the road fo my taste….The only uppset I am looking at right now is Lytle over Kos, I will be cashing in on Koshek getting KO’ed!

I dont like any of those dogs, but if you put a gun to my head and told me to choose, I would say Suga shad! Trust me when I tell u thatI do not expect shad to beat chuck, but Rashad has the advantage of his best friend Jardine beating Chuck a year ago. THen again, chuck didnt look like his usual self that night, so I dunno. I doubt shad will spend too much time trying to take Chuck down, because it will probably prove pointess. U cant take Chuck down, you have to ift chuck and slam him like Couture and Page did. So the big question will be can the erratic Rashad, with a his faints and head movements, outbox LIddlee? Doubtfull, but he should pull a page out of the Jardine manua to beat Chuck and throw a lot of kicks! Why not its not ike Chuck will look for the takedown, he only did that cheesy sh*t against Wandereu who chuck Feared!
Basically….dont bet on any of those dogs!

I don’t care for this card very much, I just want to see the main event play out and thats it. I would like to see Forrest win, but thats just because then we would most likely have a better chance of seeing Rampage/Wanderlei or Rampage/Shogun again.

Chadx23 – You might be surprised. It could be one of the best, when the night is through. There have been Fight Night Live events that made PPVs look piss poor. And I’m not talking about the lamer PPVs.

So, “Countdown to UFC 86” will replay at the exact time when UFC 86 starts? 10PM on Saturday night, according to this article. I guess they’re hoping people will buy the PPV when they see the countdown and realize the main event is only an hour or so away.

This countdown needs to be aired on Primetime.
