gsp is the man!

by b.w on Jun 28, 2008 11:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

only man I see beating GSP is BJ Penn!

by john on Jun 29, 2008 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

me too. b.j. is the only fighter south of 185 (and thats only a.silva) that has a good chance of beating “rush”. i think the fight is 50/50 and will be a war of attrition. i dont think its gonna happpen this year though. i think b.j. will fight the winner of florian/huerta, and gsp (im assuming he’s gonna beat fitch, no easy task itself) will fight either thiago or diego and ive read a few rumors that diego is in the lead of those 2. if all goes as planned, b.j. and gsp will fight sometime next year and gsp will move up to mw, win or lose after that fight. just my opinions though.

by b.w on Jun 29, 2008 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

B.J will loselike he did the first time.

CungLe vs. “THe Grabaka Hitman” Kazuo misaki will take place in the fall. This wil be a very exciting match and provide a good test to Le’s middleweight title!

I don’t see BJ taking GSP at all but I think it will be a good fight!

yeah, mandy moore is as overrated as Gomi anyways. Maybe not that much, but nevertheless…

by Amos on Jun 28, 2008 11:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

id throw her a sympathy fck. lol!

by b.w on Jun 29, 2008 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would mount Mandy, and then get her in a front naked choke.

by naturalshadow on Jun 29, 2008 5:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would put her in a triangle choke, then transition to a north-south.

I’d give her the Tony Maselli. From behind say, who’s the boss?!? You are!!! – wrong, Tony Maselli is and give her a liver shot

Dont think GsP is to interested in Mandy Moore shes at best an average looking girl. He can get way way way way way(i could go on for a while) better looking girls then her in Canada and else where as well. Anyways its good to see he dont care about BJ and is focusing on Fitch thats the smart thing to do dont want another Serra upset.

by Khaos_Warrior on Jun 29, 2008 2:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It isn’t that GSP is interested in her, it’s more the other way around.

If I was him I’d Federline my way to retirement she is worth a lot of dough.

Lots of hype for Fitch/GSP Building even when they are trying to promote griffin/rampage..

Promotion machine is getting bigger.

by DirtyML on Jun 29, 2008 4:44 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I swear GSP is the best example of a continuously evolving fighter (close second Couture). He is in brazil trainning with the best to improve his already great MMA adapted BJJ. By the time the Fitch match comes along is will be crazy to see what he will be doing on the ground.

Great Striking
Great Wrestling
Good (and improving) BJJ

These are the ingredients of a top flight MMA fighter

by Holdin_Ropes on Jun 29, 2008 8:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn’t say his striking is “great”. I would classify it as “pretty good”.

by Pat on Jun 30, 2008 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kyokushin karate black belt, years of muay thai and boxing training, background in Jeet Kune Do, his striking most certainly is great, his only blemish on his feet was the knockout loss to Serra and exceptions don’t make arguments. 7 of his 14 wins are by KO and with the exception of the Penn fight he has totally owned every fighter in the stand-up department. He is hands down the most “technical” striker in the WW division of the UFC.

is he cheering for ricardo almeida his friend? his he no longer friends with cote? or is almeida just a better friend?? mmm?

by BBB on Jun 29, 2008 11:15 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

GSP said, “I’m going to cheer for my friend of course, Patrick Cote”.

Jon Fitch has an advantage that nobody else who has fought GSP had.. he has a fighter in his camp (Kos) who has already fought GSP. That will help out Jon Fitch a lot. I think GSP may take this one, but I am not writing off Fitch, I think Fitch, if he works strikes, and instigates it into a takedown, I think Fitch would win.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 29, 2008 11:32 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

GSP handed Kos a beating, honestly I dont know what info Kos could give Fitch that he doesn’t already know.

GSP has always been intelligent on the ground and with his improved wrestling and ever evolving BJJ I think Fitch would have his hands full.

by Holdin_Ropes on Jun 29, 2008 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fitch isn’t as good a wrestler as Kos, so he’ll have an extremely hard time getting any TDs on GSP. Fitch also isn’t as explosive on the feet as Kos.

by Hardcharger on Jun 29, 2008 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly, Kos is a tougher opponent for GSP than Fitch and I think we will see this when GSP finishes Fitch within 3 rounds. Wilson was more explosive than Fitch, but he lacked the strength and cardio to beat him. GSP won’t have those problems. A guy like Alves poses the biggest threat to GSP. He won’t have a problem with Fitch, he is to slow and he will be able to do what he chooses with him. GSP by submission.

by Gord on Jun 30, 2008 2:25 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You’ve haven’t seen many of Fitch’s fights if you think that. Just because Kos was a D-1 Champ doesn’t mean he’s better than Fitch now. Fitch is a lot stronger than Kos and has evolved his wrestling to MMA more effectively. Watch Fitch vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka where Fitch’s take-down is so powerful that he slams his head into the cage and cuts his forehead. That’s explosiveness.

by DaneJa260 on Jul 3, 2008 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The only thing that saved Kos’ life in that fight was his guard. He defended GSP’s attempt to pass guard really well and it saved him from a TKO.

GSP is scared of BJ. Can’t say I blame him. Title should’v read GSP on Fitch & Moore.

by WayofTheWarrior on Jun 29, 2008 1:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

get a clue.

by Ro-J on Jun 29, 2008 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why should GSP be scared of someonehe has already beaten? BJ has little chance. I beleive that GSP will one day be thought of as the best MMA fighter to step into the octagon.

by TrueMMa on Jun 30, 2008 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can hear it in his voice when he is asked about BJ. Remember alot of people feel that BJ actually won that fight due to the damage he inflicted. GSP is/was stronger than Penn, but he sure cant out strike him, nor is he better on the ground.

by WayofTheWarrior on Jun 30, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK, lets just assume you have a point that BJ won(which you don’t). Why would GSP be scared of a guy he lost to? HELLO! GSP UTTERLY RAPES guys he loses to. So you had better hope that GSP doesn’t think he lost that fight. I’m sure it was closer than GSP had wanted it to be (because of the EYE POKE), so he will still have a point to prove, almost as if he lost. Lastly, he DID out strike Penn in the 2nd and 3rd rounds (kicks are STRIKES)as soon as he got his vision back. Also he controled BJ on the ground (what are you talking about?).

by Gord on Jul 1, 2008 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We’ll have to wait and see if&when they fight. IMO they are both great champions, BJ is that bit more technical and has his mind frame in the right place. The mind is the most underated tool in the sport. In any case it’l be a great fight

by WayofTheWarrior on Jul 2, 2008 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

does anyone think that fitch can win, i mean everyones gonna jump off his banwagon now..

by coolguy on Jun 29, 2008 4:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I honestly think Fitch can win this fight, I mean everybody should know that Fitch can win this fight, I mean if they completely neglect that and say “He has no chance of winning” that just shows the complete ignorance of that supposed MMA fan. I think Fitch is going to be a tough match for GSP, and I can see Fitch winning this fight, but it will be an extremely tough road to victory for Fitch.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 29, 2008 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nc 17: Besides the BJ fight, this wil be the toughhest test of gSP’s career. I honestly dont see GSP loosing the fight but it wont be easy for georges. I see a grueling fight that will last atleast until the 4th round, but more likely, I see GSP winning a unanimous decision.

GSP just has the advantage in everything and I am a huge Fitch fan:

wrestling: advantage GSP No welterweight has a shot at outwrestling GSP right now.

Striking: GSP is much crisper

Takedown defense: Nobody does it better than GSP, he will
dictate where the fight goes

Submissions and sub defense: I think Fitch is great at both but GSP is a little better and now training in Brazil, he should be a lot better come August

by john on Jun 29, 2008 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep, Fitch is an expert at sub defence, because he GETS CAUGHT in one every fight. Diego and Wilson aren’t strong enough to pull it off, but GSP is. I’m sure GSP noticed this too and that is why he went to Brazil to improve his submision game. When Fitch gets caught in one of GSP’s subs, he won’t be able to power out of it ,just like Hughes couldn’t. Fitch is strong, but I doubt he is stronger than Hughes. GSP knows how to use leverage to his advantage. I seen him pick up a HW and slam him like he was a LW. A lot of people think this will be a close fight, but GSP is going to roll right through him (Fitch is way to slow). GSP will always be one step ahead of him. No way this goes to a decision, not in a 5 round fight.

by Gord on Jun 30, 2008 2:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I definitely think Fitch can and will win this fight. I totally understand why GSP is the favorite. There’s just nothing negative you can say him as a person or a fighter. I just think it’s Fitch’s time.

by TonyDrip on Jun 29, 2008 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

but fitch mostly does lay-n-pray, but i do think gsp will out wrestle him even though hes on paper not as good on the ground..

by coolguy on Jun 29, 2008 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly right Coolguy. Fitch will choke a dude if he makes a mistake and leaves his neck exposed, but otherwise Fitch is happy to hump his way to a boring decision. GSP’s MMA wrestling is better than Fitch’s points wrestling, so Fitch will have to find some other way to win.

by PW on Jun 30, 2008 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You did see the Wilson fight ,right? Wilson is a good fighter, but he isn’t anywhere near GSP. That was a pretty close fight so I don’t see how Fitch is going to win. I guess anything can happen in a fight, but I’m going with the guy that MAULED 2 WW champions in his last 2 fights, rather than the guy who EEKED out 2 close decisions in his last 2.

I thought the whole interview on OTR was funny. From Georges St. Pierre’s shorts to Mandy Moore. Georges comments were hilarious. It’s great to see GSP is always working to improve to be the best.

who cares about fitch? i wanna see GSP vs Thiago Alves fight

by Lyoto on Jun 30, 2008 9:52 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Fitch obviously deserves this title shot, because he already fought Thiago Alves, and Fitch smashed Alves the entire time, TKOing him easily.

by Hardcharger on Jun 30, 2008 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fitch already admitted his speed was’nt on par with GSP’s. That being said and him acknowledging his weakness, would he have done enough or is there even a gameplan that he could execute to adapt to this. In my opinion speed coupled with accuracy and control (which is what GSP has) is only seconded to mental stregnth.
