why did they have to hold up another title?

i want to see nog fight werdum.

WTF, Werdum is next after Mir. I doubt he will want to be sidelined until next March/April. So now that he has earned a shot he has to risk it so he can stay busy… Bullsh%t.

by BNF on Jun 25, 2008 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I hear you… If this is the case Mir will only have his second fight in 10 months… but I guess if the season is good it might pay off? I actually enjoyed this season’s show.

by Robert on Jun 26, 2008 8:35 AM EDT up reply actions

man, is this one going to be as bad as season 7? I wasted 12 hours of my life watching the 12 episodes…just to learn that CB and brown were way too hyped, and both douch bags. I learned nothing of the background of anyone else, and amir and riddle will be the only 2 success stories from this season. There will never be as many “stars” as season 1!

by kevin on Jun 25, 2008 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

OMG OMG OMG I do think I agree with you here Kevin lol.

I really think that the interest in TUF is coming to an end, they should stop whilst they are ahead

by Automation on Jun 25, 2008 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions

They won’t. Finding one or two guys from each season who can make an impact is nice, but what TUF really gives the UFC is three months of free hype behind the title fight PPV and the live finale.

by PW on Jun 25, 2008 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s good marketing but beggars that ole familiar question, is it doing any good for mma or peoples perceptions of mma fighters?

by Automation on Jun 25, 2008 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Does anyone else think that commercial is a bit similar to the one that Affliction is using?

by naturalshadow on Jun 25, 2008 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions

That looks like a great season, but i didnt know they were mixing lightweights and light heavyweights for this season. I thought it was only going to be LHW, but oh well interesting still.

by Bojangles on Jun 25, 2008 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

This is the first I heard about that too. I like it though, one weight class can get a little boring and the talent level can be less when they are all from the same weight class.

by Haze on Jun 25, 2008 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly! Having 2 weight classes on 1 season cshould really help ioncrease the quality of talent for this up coming season.

I understand that alot of people out there think there are more deserving guys to fight for the title than Frank, and thats fine, but quit taking it out on him. Joe Silva offered him the fight and like a normal person he took the title shot. It wasnt very long ago that Frank Mir was a world beater and everybody was high on this guy, then the accident happened and things went south. Stuff happens, but he is getting back to a good place, not to mention he is a great ammbassador for the sport. Hes articulate, knowledgable, humble, and an all around good guy. I mean i understand people thinking there are guys like Werdum who deserve a title shot, but dont get mad, about Frank getting the shot. It seems like im one of the only people who is excited about this fight, and i promise you it will be better than people think.

by Dave on Jun 25, 2008 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

Good post, I agree

by Haze on Jun 25, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree. Frank Mir has stated that he wants to go to law school when he quits fighting. He has always carried himself well, and I have a lot of respect for him as a fighter and as a person

by Ryan Blair on Jun 25, 2008 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

good post again Dave.

You’re deep today, but I agree

by Automation on Jun 25, 2008 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

i love how they hype tuf up more then they do with an actual title fight. they make it look like this crazy bad ass thing, when in reality we’ve all seen it before, we know what it is. i’m tired of watching it, more so that this seasons prob gonna suck ass anyways. the only way i’d watch it is if they made it kinda like the 4th one, except just a big tournament with fighters that are like 3-2 or 2-3 or something like that. but fighters that are already in the ufc.

by shinbob on Jun 25, 2008 2:50 PM EDT reply actions

yeah, the only tuf season I liked was the very first one, the second one was ok, the third one already got old, by the forth one I was like yawwwn. Even the 7th season with forrest and rampage which I thought was going to be good because of the coaches, was one of the worst IMO. I couldn’t even make myself watch the last episode. I don’t see this season being any different.

Exactly.

I F’n Love it.!!!!!! Big Nog all the F’n way..

by PhilQNY on Jun 25, 2008 2:56 PM EDT reply actions

Heavyweight is the weakest division. Of all the seasons there has only been 1 HW winner and he dropped down to LHW. This season has 2 HW coaches and still no HW contestants. I don’t get it. Are there just not enough HW out there or what?

by BNF on Jun 25, 2008 2:59 PM EDT reply actions

I agree, why not just have 32 heavy weight fighters??? If even just 3 of them turn out legit then it would make a great addition to the UFC heavyweight roster. The UFC desperately need heavy weights and middle weights.

by Holdin_Ropes on Jun 25, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I was wondering this as well. You’ve the two most stacked divisions competing instead of the two weakest. My only thought is that a lot of the guys competing in the light heavy division will drop down to middleweight after the show. It seems to happen with a lot of the TUF guys. They use the show as a way in to the UFC. I’m actually surprised they don’t have a stipulation in their contract that says if you win the show at this weight class, you need to stay in this class until your contract is up.

by VNDK8 on Jun 25, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I seem to remember that they were having heavyweight tryouts recently, so maybe there is an upcoming season of heavyweights.

by Ryan Blair on Jun 25, 2008 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Totally agree. They need to make sure they get legitimate HWs though, not some puffed up LHWs who will drop back down.

by PW on Jun 25, 2008 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Can’t wait to see Nog as a coach.

by grembone on Jun 25, 2008 3:44 PM EDT reply actions

Anderson Silva is one of his assistants which is even better.

by Anonymousf*ck on Jun 26, 2008 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions

How is everyone saying Werdum is so much more qualified for a title shot?
Neither him or Mir have really made a streak worthy of a title shot.

Werdum has a TKO over Gonzaga and a questionable stoppage over Vera. Before that he lost in a snooze-fest to Arlovski. How does that make him more deserving than Mir?

Holding the title up for another season of TUF is bullshit.

The only deserving title shot I see right now is the unification fight between Minotauro and Couture. But who knows if that will ever happen.

by Cool Hand Chad on Jun 25, 2008 3:44 PM EDT reply actions

One thing I’d like to see that they did on Season 4, is to have the fighters randomly pick a shirt; and that’s how the teams are put together. Or, before the initial pre-fight to get into the house the coaches flip a coin for the winner. They could also, focus more on the fighters training than on the nonsense going in the house. Even on the coaches training for their upcoming fight. Just a little something different would make a big difference.

hey, isn’t that guy from the AFL???? bolonde with the tats on his l. and r. clavacle.

by Leonard on Jun 25, 2008 4:06 PM EDT reply actions

I honestly believe this is going to be the best season yet. Mir and Big Nog know their crap. They’re both studs in jiu-jitsu. Both champions (former and present). The fighters on that season get to learn from some of the best.

As far as the Mir vs Big Nog fight goes, I agree with Dave. Lots of people are overlooking Mir. The kid is legit. I said when he was making his comeback that he’d get his belt back, and I believe this is the fight it happens with. I’ve taken lots of crap for that view, but thats the way I see it goin down. Neither of these guys has every been submitted, so, I’m not looking for a win via sub. I see it being a great fight either way. And Frank Mir is fully deserving of title shot. Dana and Silva led him to the slaughter with the Lesnar fight, and Mir showed he’s no sacrificial lamb. He’s legit. He’s a former champion, and I believe he’s in the top 2 heavyweights the UFC has left. Big Nog is the only other person you can argue is better, and I see Mir beating him. Guess that makes him #1 in my book. looking forward to the whole season.

by Craig on Jun 25, 2008 4:08 PM EDT reply actions

Frank Mir is an awesome fighter, I saw him destroy Pete Williams’ arm live. I can’t wait for this fight.

by JudoMan on Jun 25, 2008 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

umm, maybe I’m mistaken, but the trailer said rodrigo nogeira at the end. Isn’t that little nog?

by bob jones on Jun 25, 2008 4:47 PM EDT reply actions

That would be Rogerio.

You guys that are bashing TUF for the reasons that you are, are exactly the reasons the UFC still show it. We don’t like the drama in the house, the average mma fan that tunes in does. We don’t like the boozing, the average mma fan that tunes in does. We like the training aspect of it, the frat house guys that tune do not. It doesn’t sell. All the other garbage sells. Are any of us interested in seeing 23-33 year old men destroy a million dollar home? Probalby not many on here, but the frat boys dream about doing that shit.

The UFC is going to ride this pony until its least breath and should. It legitimizes them as the King Kong of mma promotions. The only promotion that has a weekly show of FREE fights. They stay in the forefront of the average fans mind as the only or the best promotion. Most of the mma fans out there are only average. Not too many take it to the level that some of us do. I can’t even get my buddies to checkout this site or others. They just check out the fights.

by muto on Jun 25, 2008 6:49 PM EDT reply actions

I am on the fence about this new season. I thought season 7 would be entertaining with two humorous coaches and it turned out to be one of the most boring seasons yet.

This upcoming one, I will be interested to see Team Nog. Will he have his brother there and the whole Black House team? (I heard the Spider will be an assistant coach also.) How well will he be communicating in english? I also think Mir will be a good coach. He is well spoken and seemingly a good teacher. Basically, it all boils down to how it gets put together in the editing room. It has possibilities but will probably be a washout due to production choices.

That said, I want to make a prediction. This season’s most shocking twist. Dana White: “This is something I’ve never had to do before in the history of this show.” He has to kick a COACH off the show. Mir gets caught wacking it to a Urijah Faber video while he is supposed to be cornering a fighter and they dismiss him. (Does Mir’s man-crush on Faber bother anyone else? Honestly, I can hear his voice in my head in an imaginary coaching segment: “I’m gonna show you something. I saw Urijah Faber do this in a fight once.”)

by PJJ on Jun 25, 2008 6:57 PM EDT reply actions

Mir has the weakness of lack of talent in the HW division, as well as the need for coaches and a season of TUF to thank for a title shot.

He beat Lesnar and gets a title shot. People are saying Werdum doesnt deserve it, but then how the hell does Mir?? The only decent fighter Mir fought lately was Vera, and Vera beat the living piss out of him whilke losing his last 2 fights.

Good thing Arlovski has left, Sylvia has left and Vera lost his last 2 adn Werdum is a recognized enough name..AND THE REST OF THE HW division is ???? Hell of lottery winner for Mir. No way in hell he will ever hang in this era of mma. Just like Serra, maybe he will turn his gift into something

TUF 8….Yawn.

by fightfan on Jun 26, 2008 12:24 AM EDT reply actions

why no heavyweights?? lhw and lh divisions are already stacked. is it just ufc or are good heavyweights hard to find

by mashurst on Jun 26, 2008 8:57 AM EDT reply actions

I think any half decent Heavyweights they are just signing up anyway. Herman, Carwin, Velazquez. Is there really the talent out there that they aren’t already courting for contracts?
