Chuck’s gonna destroy him
Still can’t see why he’s gonna fight Rashad after the brutal win over Wandy
Think he deserves a better match-up

by IrishKev on Jun 24, 2008 12:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

To be honest I think Rashad has a real chance here. He can do alot of the things Jardine did in his win over Chuck, accept better, and they come from the same camps! And how pumped can Chuck be for fighting Rashad after beating Wandy? That’s why I thought the fight with Shogun was perfect timing. Chuck needs big fights from now on to get him motivated. Chuck beats Shogun but has a tougher time against Rashad.

by Robert on Jun 24, 2008 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree. I would rather watch Chuck vs. Hendo and Rashad vs. Palhares. I think they would all be close enough to the same size at 205.

by UFCAddict on Jun 24, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is Crap! Chuck is going to beat yet another wrestler, and be awarded a title shot.

All this is, is a ploy by Dana White to ensure that Chuck gewts a 3rd crack at Rampage. He is making Chuck fight the easiest match up possible, but against a guy with a great record. This is how they will try and justify, giving Liddell another title shot over true Contenders like Machida.

This is a JOKE! The best division in mma is all dictated on who is more popular! does fighting ability matter any more in the UFC?

IMO, chuck should have to go through either Machida or THiago Silva to get another title shot!

fact!

by braveheart uk on Jun 24, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn’t be so quick to assume Chuck will get another title shot after this fight. Let’s wait to see how the next fight announcements work out between Thiago, Wandi, and Machida before getting all upset. There are just too many unknowns right now. Dana will sometimes say a fight is for the #1 contender like Florian/Huerta. He has not said that about Chuck’s next fight, yet.

by bnf on Jun 24, 2008 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

1 thing we do know is that Dana swings from Chucks nuts!
Chuck is still the poster boy, and his fights still sell a ton of pay per views. 2 HUGE reason’s why Chuck will get a title shot after beating Rashad = TRAVESTY!!!

by john on Jun 24, 2008 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep. They’re setting it up for an end of year showdown I think. Machida would beat Chuck I reckon and they don’t want that happening. So if Chuck does beat Rashad and moves on to fight Rampage they should pair up Lyoto and Thiago for the next crack at the belt.

by RobH86 on Jun 24, 2008 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

“Machida would beat Chuck”? If the UFC thinks Machida would beat Chuck and they don’t want that to happen, why would they give him a fight agaisn’t Rampage who has beat him twice?

Decent post there dude…

You fail to mention that Chuck just beat Wandy and was supposed to fight Shogun….. how is this an easy road?

by Robert on Jun 24, 2008 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rashad is a big step below wanderlei and Shogun! POINT MADE!! As u get closer to a title shot, competition level is supposed to increase, Rashad is a step down!

Chuck will never see the top of the division again… I think he is quickly becoming the gate keeper for the top guys.

by Reldeed on Jun 24, 2008 12:56 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I would not go so far as to say that. Saying he will never see the top again is basically saying Chuck has nothing left and is more like a Tito.

I would disagree with that. Chuck has a ton left but I think he would greatly benefit from a change in camps…if only for a short while to add some new things to his game plan.

by StayDown on Jun 24, 2008 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He’s still a good fighter but i can’t see him being champ ever again, i don’t think he can beat Jackson, Machida and a few others at the top of the lhw div. I also think chuck would lose to silva in a rematch.

by Macho Bullshit on Jun 24, 2008 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Chuck is on form, his style is extremely difficult to get round. I think he will destroy Rashad though I like both fighters. It won’t be too long before people start to figure out Machida’s style. Jackson just seems to be improving and getting stronger. I see him holding the belt for some time. On a seperate note, I was thinking about counter striking. My teacher said it is not skillfull to block, it is more skillfull to evade and takes even more skill to deflect and slide off an attack to engage your own. I have yet to see this employed in MMA. Does anyone know anyone in MMA who does this yet?

by WayofTheWarrior on Jun 24, 2008 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Machida. Hehe nuff said.

by Sean_M on Jun 24, 2008 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

as much as dana white is on his nuts i see him going to the top again very soon! as soon as someone beats rampage chuck will fight them and get back the title.

by Winner by Strikes! on Jun 24, 2008 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your crazy!!! He will never be a gate keeper. You know the old saying, your only as good as you last fight. Well look at his. It was one on the greatest MMA fights of all time and he won. You are probably just trying to piss people off because that is one of the most ridiclous comments I have ever read.

by BNF on Jun 24, 2008 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

as long as Machida is alive chuck will never be the lhw champ,

by Macho Bullshit on Jun 24, 2008 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think so buddy. Who the hell wants to see 2 counter strikers fight anyways? Chuck has the more effective counters and would become the agressor once he smelled blood. Chuck is not afraid to get hit like Tito. I hope they do fight so we could find out.

by BNF on Jun 24, 2008 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lol then why is Chuck doging Machida to face Rashad than. Chuck knows he will lose. If Chuck really wanted to fight the best in the would and earn his title shot he would face Machida, but Chuck is content in safely fighting his way to a title shot against people like Rashad, and you know what its all big waste of time anyway coz once he gets his title shot he’s gonna lose anyway.

by Macho Bullshit on Jun 24, 2008 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL at you. Chuck was going to fight Shogun. Shogun got hurt and Machida was already scheduled to fight Tito so they gave him Rashad. You don’t consider Shogun 1 of the best.

And don’t you know Wandi and Vera turned down a fight with Machida also for next month. Why don’t you talk about that, smart guy. There is no gaurenteed title shot after he destroys Rashad. Their could be a possible match-up down the road agaisn’t Machida.

by BNF on Jun 24, 2008 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Macho BS, I will show you this also. Where does it say Chuck was recently offered a fight with Machida?

Cut and Paste:

Looks like the UFC had originally explored the possibility of a Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva match up for UFC 88, but Silva has requested some time off until December.
"Here in Vegas the good things keep coming to me… I had already been sound out about my next bout. To begin with, I just want to fight again on December, because it will be the biggest event of the year and until there I will be ready again", said Wanderlei via his personal blog.

The UFC is pushing for Silva to be ready for their October pay-per-view however, and is offering Silva a match up with either Thiago Silva or Lyoto Machida, with Thiago Silva being the more likely of the two. Look for that match up to occur possibly as soon as the October PPV.

The UFC is having a difficult time finding an opponent for undefeated rising superstar Lyoto Machida. Dave Meltzer is reporting that Machida is viewed as a difficult and often boring match up.

by BNF on Jun 24, 2008 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I heard that Chuck’s camp said that they would not fight Machida. I don’t recall what event it was for. Actually, I think I read it on MANIA.

by ViolentMike on Jun 24, 2008 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ViolentMike: Hackleman DID say that. I think it was when they were looking for someone for Chuck to face at UFC 85. He turned down the Machida fight, then he accepted to fight Shogun….and then it all went down hill from there (Injuries to everyone mentioned with that event).

by john on Jun 24, 2008 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah they asked Hackleman if there was anybody Chuck wasn’t prepared to fight or something to that effect. Hackleman said Machida because Chuck has no training partners that could even come close to replicating Lyoto’s style in training.

by RobH86 on Jun 24, 2008 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hackleman should have called me I would have run away from Chuck for 5 mins at a time and every now and then done some flashy karate kick shit.

by robw on Jun 24, 2008 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The only thing yet to come out of the Pit was Hackleman stating in an interview that the only fight he wasn’t keen on for Chuck was Machida, due to his unorthodox style. He said that it would be difficult to prepare for.

Fact 1: Chuck has never been offered Machida.
Fact 2: Chuck has never, in his whole career turned down a fight.

I for one, am interested in Rashad vs Chuck. Deserving of a title shot? In my opinion, no, (considering Rampage wins). What i do agree with is fighting now to get on the New Years Eve event. Thats a no brainer. Also this fight is overdue.

Im just happy to see Chuck fight, and its not like this is his last fight. There will be opportunities to see him fight others in the future.

PS: If he hadn’t lost a split decision to Jardine I think he would deserve a title fight right now. Hell, after all he’s done i think he could have deserved an immediate rematch if it wasn’t terrible business.

by chris on Jun 24, 2008 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m guessing that Chuck may get another shot at the top. However, he will lose and each person that beats him will get a title shot. Hence, he will be the gate keeper.

chuck is my favorite fighter of all time, not because hes the best fighter of all time, but he brings the fight all the time. because of his charisma and perosnality thats why a lot of people like him. he is the BIGGEST draw for the ufc, so why would they make him a gate keeper. i can almost gaurantee u that he will get a title shot again soon after this win or a couple more wins…. do i think he deserves a title shot? unbiasly speaking, no. he needs to beat shogun, machida.. then yes he deserve the title shot but as of beating rashad evans, i dont think that should effect his status as a contender, however the ufc (dana white) would most likely to bump his status up. as for rashad evans do i think he deserves a title shot if he can pull a win over liddell? no… hes got a lot to prove to others.

by mr.rice-a-roni on Jun 24, 2008 1:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Chuck is my favorite as well. I will never understand why some of the guys on this site hate him so much. He needs 1 more win after Rashad to get his title shot. As I see it right now there is 3 guys + Chuck who are 1-2 wins from a shot, Tiago, Wandi, and Machida. 1 of the 3 will have to wait to fight Chuck around New Years. The other 2 should fight soon. Chuck vs Machida New Years weekend!!!

I dont understand how Chuck gets all this hate for fighting Rashad. Its not Chucks fault Shogun got injured. But then everybody was ok with Vera turning down Machida to fight an unknown fighter. WTF is that?

Wandy turned down Machida as well! I hope Chuck does fight him and KO’s his a%s so everyone will give him his respect.

Yea I know Wandy turned down Vera, but Wandy is already established as a warrior. Vera still needs to prove himself as a top guy, instead of making all these excuses. The only reason I dont want the Chuck/Machida fight is because if Machida ran from Tito, then imagine how he’ll run from Chuck!!!

by JV on Jun 24, 2008 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Did you see this? This implies that Wandi also turned down Machida. No disrespect to Wandi, but no one will talk sh%t about him, but they have no problem talking sh%t about Chuck.

It must be something personal with Wandy cause he took no damage with Jardine. But yea I agree that no one said nothing about Wandy, but is quick to talk Shit about Chuck. Chuck has been the man for a long time and risked alot when he took the Wandy fight, and still gets bashed? I dont get it! The only thing I can think of is that Chuck must have KO’d there heros.

haha ok guys here is a lot of chuck lovers i am a fan of chuck but not like you guys yeah he can beat rashad maybe he can get a title shot and i`m not disagree with that, i just want shogun been in 100 percent a clean out this division i`m still think he is the best 205 fighter in the world, forrest beat him but is the past a lot of factors been there i`m not making excuses i just saying he WILL COME BACK

by jow32 on Jun 24, 2008 2:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

why do people hate chuck? the mans unavenged losses are to rampage and jardine who are both very respectable fighters, yeah jardine lost to alexander, and got destroyed by silva but silva is a top notch fighter, and jardine got lucky..

i also see why people wont fight machida NOBODY in the ufc wants a boring fight machida wont be given a fight with chuck because dana knows chuck will end the “undefeated future star” gimmic.. As for someone saying tiago silva would beat chuck i think you just wanna sound retarded no way that would happen yeah im a chuck fan but also know the facts chuck is the legit number 3 lhw behind forrest and rampage and if forrest loses his shot he’ll fight winner of rashad and chuck

by randy murders on Jun 24, 2008 2:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

forrest should not be top 3, hes the bottom 5-10 of lhw rankings.

the only reason forrest get a title shot is because he beat shogun thats why i`m not disagree whit chuck get a title shot after rashad, because he did win vs wandi but i think machida deserve a title shot too, anyway in my opinion shogun is better than all these guys is just matter of time to show that

by robw on Jun 24, 2008 5:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Evans is the worst UFC fighter there is, even worse than Andy Wang….totally boring, all his fights put you to sleep. No KO power at all. Chuck should murder him if he brings the same level of intensity when he fought Wandy.

by knux on Jun 24, 2008 5:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yup, another lob for Chuck. I’ve got nothing against the guy and he’s a great fighter (apparently if you critique anyone here you’re a “hater”), but it’s clear that this is the easiest step for Chuck to get another title shot. You’ve gotta admit that. Look at how he closed out Tito and Randy, both serious wrestlers. Plus no wrestler can keep Chuck down. It’s uncanny.

Anyhoo, I don’t blame anyone for not taking a fight with Machida on short notice, he’s unlike most so a lot of training and planning would be required to have any chance of winning.

BTW, I love watching Machida. I think he’s the bomb. He exploits all the large slobs for what they are. I imagine Dana will put him up against Thiago next. That would be a great fight methinks.

by dave on Jun 24, 2008 6:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

chuck via tko stikes rnd 2, he will look impressive and dominate this one like someone else said he gota good record against wrestlers. and can’t wait for the new years eve show if it got wandi vs thiago silva that would be awesome possible fight of the night with two agressive fighters

by markg on Jun 24, 2008 6:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Machida runs and runs and hides. he is a pussy. If you aren’t man enough to see that Chuck is still top 3 or 4 then just quit putting your trash on this board. You all keep saying Wandi was hurt, chuck is past his prime. machida rules. machida runs like a lil’ girl on to catch a predator. Chuck just fough Wandi in one of the best fights ever. I have been watching since the very first and Chuck still has it and will be champ again. So all you lil’ kids go watch a Kimbo youtube video and think he is all that and leave us realists alone.

by Brian on Jun 24, 2008 7:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Brian, I would consider you a “realist” if your opinion was a little more realistic. Chuck will never be the champion again because he’s in a division that is stacked to the hilt and he’s proven unable to beat the current champ. I doubt Chuck will every beat Rampage and in a rematch with Wandi, Chuck would more than likely lose. A 100% Shogun would destroy Chuck. Chuck’s saving grace is his punchers chance. I like Chuck as much as the next guy, but I just consider myself a “realist.”

look i don’t argue that thiago silva has looked impressive. but to say that chuck or anyone else is dodging him seems a little crazy to me. look at who silva has fought, a bunch of nobodies. he beat irvin who got injured and a glass jawed alexander. other that that it is a list of who??? this is a case of the bandwagons on this site. i remember not to long ago when alexander won his first 2 everyone kept mentioning his name in title shot discussions. i said from the start he had a glass jaw, now he has lost a few and no one talks about him anymore.

let silva fight his way up to guys like liddell. chuck and these other veterans have earned the right to challenge for the title. at least alot more than your flavor of the month fanboys might suggest.

This fight will likely go the distance like all Effing Rashad Evans fights do and then he’ll be all smiling at the descision and be happy with a draw because that’s what a fighter with no drive to finish their opponent does. I hope Chuck lands a straight right to his chin and Rashad does the spawning salmon on the canvas. Maybe that will wake his ass up to actually fight inside the Octagon and not cruise to descision wins. Reason i vote for the distance is because Chuck is a counter puncher and Rashad will just be a bobble head in there throwing 11,546 fakes and not throw a punch. The good thing is, chuck will win by descision, but man does Rashad ever need to get his ass kicked.

by Roo on Jun 25, 2008 12:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

why does everyone say chucks done, hes too old to be good? i recall people saying that about randy when he fought chuck the first time. i also recall him beating chuck, then tito, to bcome the light heavy champion. then after he lost his belt, i also recall a MAN IN HIS 40’S come back and take away the belt at HW even though his opponent had a 45 pound advantage on him. Chuck is just as capable, if not more so, to do what randy did and comeback and get his belt. hes alreeady beat tougher opponents then randy, and has many more wins. Chuck DOESNT dodge anyone. If u watched ultimate iceman, he he went AGAINST what dana was telling him to do when chuck was the #1 contender. He fought one of the most dangerous fighters, sobral, and won by TKO in first round. And its not like rampage is somone like A. Silva who looks like his games unbeatable. Watch ’page’s fights. You realize he relies on pure strength for a lot of them. His technique compared to many others, like machida, is terrible. He himself siad he sucks a jits, and he also said hes not a good boxer OR wrestler. (lol he did say though hes good at woopin @ss though.) My point is that no one should consider chuck out of the contenders for the belt. Hes not a tito, hes not gona become a moron in the ring. Hes not gona dodge compition like so many say, and he DEFINATLY gona destroy rashad. And people who say that Chucks just a counter puncher, thats what he likes to do. But if u recall in the wandy fight, along with many others, he was the aggressor more than once. In his second pride fight (the one before rampage) he was definatly the aggresser. I agree rampage is his one bump in the road, but chucks also done what people doubt he’d do before. Btw, hcuck was conidered THE BEST LHW on the planet more or less until he fought rampage. That was a little over a year ago, not too long. i think the Iceman will be back, and when he has his belt back, people that doubted him will be right back in the iceman fan club. Funny how people only jump on the band wagon if the guy winsand if he loses ONE fight there off it.

Srry to repeat again, but imo, i think machida is a bit over hyped. Hes good, i know that, ubt hes not the best yet. Im looking at the win record of his. in his 13 wins, the only guy i see who i consider worthy are rich franklin and bj penn, but he does have a size advatage on both of them, especially penn. from the UFC LHW devision, he hasnt beaten anyone i consider worthy. Tito is terrible these days, and didnt show much in any of his last few fights. Of his 5 UFC fights hes only ended one short by arm triangle, agianst a very new fighter to the sport (the huge black guy whos name i forget.) I know hes gona be a star, but until he defeats a worthy named fighter IN THE UFC LHW CLASS im not gona consider him one of the bests.

by MMA_Metalhead on Jun 29, 2008 1:59 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well for everyone whose wondering why on earth Dana would put up a third fight with Chuck and Quinton it’s because of the huge amount of hype that goes along with it. Quinton is the one man who has beaten Chuck at all and gotten away with it. Chuck has cleared all his loss vendettas from MMA and UFC except Quinton. So there would be alot of sells of paperview to go along with that hype. As you may well know Quinton has lost to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 and lost his title, so I believe that they will have Chuck face Machida and when/if he wins that fight he will most likely face Quinton before Quinton gets another shot at Forrest and then from there have either Quinton or Chuck go after the title next year.
