That fight would be over in less than a minute.

I agree. Monson would have to eat a couple of shots on the way in, but once he takes him down, Kimbo will be tapping or asleep within seconds.

However, Kimbo has only had 3 fights. He’s only been training for what, a little over a year? Monson has over ten years experience and 32 fights. It’s a bit of a mismatch to say the least. Give Kimbo some time and some more experience and he could be really good. But he better get crackin’ because he ain’t getting any younger!

by JRK on Jun 23, 2008 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

JRK thats what happens when your promoter hypes you, to the point of calling you elite and saying he’ll put his fighters in against anybody. Real fighters will come out and call him out. Then what? How much more time does Kimbo need? Hes like 34 or 35, I agree Kimobo would go to sleep right away.

monson is a goof.

Don’t see my comment, so I will type something similar…

Jeff Monson should make a career change and switch from fighting to filming YouTube videos. This short video was 10 times more entertaining than any of his fights as of late. BURN!

(worded much better the first time…)

by ViolentMike on Jun 23, 2008 10:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Monson is a freakshow looking to fight another freakshow.

by grembone on Jun 23, 2008 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, and I definitely think he would win. haha

Monson will have to wait in line because Kimbo vs. Grim has already been confirmed for October!

by john on Jun 23, 2008 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

booyeah!

that makes two of us!

by ~Stinky~fingers~ on Jun 23, 2008 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John, have you heard it confirmed by EliteXC/Gary Shaw, or did you just hear Kimbo say its possible in October?

by ViolentMike on Jun 23, 2008 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Monson must figure this is one of the few ways of bringing himself a little fading limelight.

by chefdaddy on Jun 23, 2008 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ViolentMike: I read that it was officially confirmed. I didnt read any quotes from Kimbo or Grim about it, I read an article stating that it was so. give me some time, I will go through the Archives of other sites and I will find you the link.

Its sounded legit to the point where I will be shocked if Kimbo vs. Grim does not happen in october.

Either way, they would NEVER at this point in Kimbo’s career, match him up against such a dangerous submission Grappler like the snowman. It would be nice, but unfortunatley Kimbo is carrying EliteXC and shaw isnt about to let MOnson snap kimbo’s arm off!

IMO, the snowman is just Boring. I absolutely Love submission grappling, but Monson bores the crap out of me. I guess I am still pissed off that my Boy fujita didnt smash a whole through his milky face!

by john on Jun 23, 2008 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Violentmike: Quote from Jared Shaw (gary’s son):

EliteXC Vice President and matchmaker Jared Shaw informed Fightline.com that the two men will indeed meet in October to play out their rivalry. The fight will “more than likely” take place on CBS but will depend on other variables such as timing and platform availability.

“It depends on the timing of which platform we’re on that month and week and what works for Rogers and Kimbo, but they’ve got each other,” said Shaw. “This fight will happen in October.”

Rest of the Article is on fightline, just scroll down a little

by john on Jun 23, 2008 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kimbo is very overrated right now, but Grim is nothing special either. I hope Kimbo knocks Grim’s head off just for trying to make a name off of him!

john-

your right about kimbo getting his arm ripped off since he thinks tapping is for bitches.

LOLOLOL. That is the first time that I am happy to hear Jeff Monson open his mouth. He has to be the fighter that starts the most rumors, or even stranger, the fighter that most people start rumors about. He’s always about to be fighting someone ranked about 100 spots ahead of him.

Not being able to read so I’ll post it on YouTube had me laughing! Instant Classic.

Jeff Monson should seriously consider making YouTube videos as a career. It was way more entertaining than any fight I’ve seen him in. BURN!

I’m glad legitimate fighters are calling out the hype machine created by Gary Shaw, I’d rather have skill and talent be showcased on behalf of MMA instead of it being a spectacle.

Gary should just co-promote with the WWE or TNA wrestling with the route he’s going

monson just wants to get paid good.

if you fight kimbo

you get paid.

by ~Stinky~fingers~ on Jun 23, 2008 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, if you take a dive to Kimbo you get paid. If you do something silly like use MMA skills to try to beat Kimbo, Scumbag Shaw will make sure you end up in a shallow grave in the Nevada desert.

monson should kick kimbo’s ass and rip his beard of. then get it transplanted onto his own cranium. think about it ,thats a good look

kimbo is fighting brett rogers next.

after rogers does work on kimbo shaw wont be able to pimp kimbo of as some big thing.

this fight will never happen

plus monson is always talking sh.t

Hey stinky fingers, Thats sounded to me like Kimbo is saying he’ll fight Rogers. He can talk all day long, but will Shaw make the fight? I wont believe till it comes out of Shaws mouth. And thats because Shaw had already said no at the post fight press conference after the CBS show.

by JV on Jun 23, 2008 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I should’ve read the whole thing, but I just read the title of the article… I really doubt shaw would allow this to happen, business wise it doesn’t make sense, and if it don’t make sense it don’t make dollars :p

by linx on Jun 23, 2008 10:13 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

if kimbo says they are fighting in october

then trust me

they are fighting in october.

gary loves kimbo and will do what he is told

and kimbo prob wont fight any 1 else right now cause he dont wanna look like a puss.

look JV

like you said you dont have to believe it till it comes out shaws mouth

BUT

at least you can admit i am fast as a giraffe

i found that info in like 6 mins after i said i would get it

you could do better?

i doubt it

by ~Stinky~fingers~ on Jun 23, 2008 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Stinky, it’s the other way around, kimbo will do whatever gary shaw tells him to do. He’s only covering his @$$ so he doesn’t look like a p*ssy because rogers called him out. Truth of the matter is that EliteXC doesn’t have many marketable fighters, and it would be suicide for them to throw kimbo to anyone that might have a shot at beating him on paper (I’m sure shaw almost had a heart attack in his fight against thompson). If you haven’t already gotten used to seeing kimbo fighting the "has been" of MMA, you should get used to it, because I don’t see that changing anytime soon. I don’t think rogers is a great fighter, but he definitely has a shot at beating kimbo and gary is just not going to take that gamble.

by linx on Jun 23, 2008 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ok stinky fingers your as fast as a giraffe and I couldnt do better.

by JV on Jun 23, 2008 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

thank you JV.

and linx i understand what you mean

but i really think gary will have this fight.

kimbo knows he was exposed. he wants to fight rogers anyways. bas knows he was exposed he want kimbo to fight rogers anyways.

gary has to realize by now that the kimbo gravy train is almost over

so have him fight rogers and sell big or have him fight cans and ruin exc more then he is already.

if he somehow beats brett then start that engine back up.

i will bet you they fight in october linx.

http://mmamania.com/2008/06/06/kimbo-slice-next-fight-against-brett-rogers-in-october-possible/

That’s the link.

“Here’s a snip from Kimbo:

"Considering Brett Rogers is as ignorant as he is, he’s probably looking at it like Kimbo Slice can be a meal ticket. Instead of making the fight at more of a business tip, this is going to be personal. This shit is personal now. If he wants to call me out, considering he’s going to get big money to fight me, then you know, from a business point of view, whoever was in his ear, they did their part, and now they got the fight."

Short of calling out Kimbo’s mother, Rogers did and said just about everything he could to make this fight happen.

And apparently it worked, even though Elite XC Live Events President Gary Shaw indicated immediately following the fight that it wasn’t going to happen anytime soon."

Kimbo is earnin lumps of cash quickly knocking out cans
Fair deuce to him
Once Rogers fights him, I’d dive Kimbo a chance in that fight at least, thurs no-one to fight but a proper fighter if Kimbo wins

maybe some people, but lots of fighters (like monson) want to see how kimbo still feels if tapping is for “bitches” when a kimura pulls his shoulder completely out of socket. Kimbo is used to talking shit to crack slingers that just want money for another pack of black n milds.

by DB on Jun 23, 2008 11:14 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

shaw’s ill conceived plan is about to blow up in his face. in boxing it’s all about hype, in mma you have to back up what you market. alot of fighters, understandably, are unhappy with this situation, kimbo has very little experience, very few mma skills yet is on the cover of mma magazine and has an mma organization built up around him. other mma fighters have been doing this their entire lives and are barely making it.
but, here’s the thing – it’s not kimbo’s fault. he’s just trying to do the best he can do, and he admits it. it’s shaws and elitexc’s fault. this isn’t boxing, but shaw is as slimy as don king, but those tactics won’t work in mma.

Haha that little video is a joke, calling Kimbo out just makes Monson look like an idiot. I’m not saying Kimbo deserves the hype, he’s really more of a well paid victim of it than anything, but Monson sure as hell doesn’t belong on any covers either. Issuing an internet challenge to a guy that’s just a hyped up newcomer to MMA doesn’t say much for Monson’s fighting skills either, you’d think as a veteran he’d be above that level but I guess he’s just looking for his little piece of the Kimbo pie. It’s like they all want to be the one to expose Kimbo, but newsflash for you guys—it’s already been done.

by Scott on Jun 23, 2008 12:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Monson will never get a shot at Kimbo for one it isn’t in Gary Shaw’s best interest to do this one. Monson is a great fighter but besides the hardcore mma fans Monson doesn’t have a wide appeal. As well Kimbo is still very green and has a snowballs chance in hell against him so it is a complete lose lose situation for EliteXC if this fight happens.

by Tim on Jun 23, 2008 12:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Would not be entertaining…Monson would submit him inside 3 mins….

by FukStyck on Jun 23, 2008 12:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Is nobody else bothered by the WWE-ness of that video?!?!?! It’s tragic!! And the fact the it is for EliteXC, the “MMA Orginization” with a major TV deal just purpetuates the negative MMA press.

Yeeeaah, let’s see it go down.

by Ray on Jun 23, 2008 12:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The dudes that are calling out Kimbo are pretty desperate. It says a lot about who they are and how confident they are in their abilities. Tito and now Monson. That’s pretty sad. The real fighters aren’t talking about him because they know that Kimbo fighting them would be suicide for him. It’s like Tim Sylvia calling out Sean Sherk.

by doodah on Jun 23, 2008 12:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

no it isn’t like sylvia calling out sherk cause they aren’t even in the same weight class.

and they have a right to be desperate, monson is far more deserving of a cover of a magazine than kimbo who is all hype. monson fought chuck liddell, who has kimo fought?

by spankrock on Jun 23, 2008 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well of course it isn’t exactly, but it’s a guy of a particular class and ilk fighting someone totally new, just because he’s famous. And as to Monson having a right to be desperate? No one should be desperate. I suppose everyone has the right to be, but it’s pathetic. Move on. Fight someone that means something, if you can’t do that, then retire is the self-respecting thing to do.

And how many times does Chuck fight someone who’s only been training for 1 year? What about Anderson Silva, or GSP, or Sean Sherk. They only fight fights that say something about their skill. They don’t fight someone based on the fact that they’re famous. Leave Kimbo alone I say. Yeah he’s all hype, that’s obvious. Why does everyone care so much.

by doodah on Jun 23, 2008 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Haha, Monson would make him tap in 8 seconds. Shaw won’t make this fight happen, though. Kimbo only fights cans. (in main events). lol, EliteXC sucks.

So if Kimbo beats Monson the goon will you guys stop hating on the man? It seems many of you think of Monson as a “legitimate” mma fighter. If not, you guys are straight up hypocrits.

by james on Jun 23, 2008 12:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Monson WAS a legit fighter (hmmm……grappler, maybe?), now he is simply a fighter who is well past his prime.

by chefdaddy on Jun 23, 2008 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even though Monson might be past his prime, I can see him winning like he did against this one dude were Monson had the north south position choking the dude out. That guy had spit coming out his mouth, I can see Kimbo going out that way.

by JV on Jun 23, 2008 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LMFAO! Imagine a picture of that on the cover of ESPN magazine. hahahaha

by chefdaddy on Jun 23, 2008 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Monson vs. Branden Lee Hinkle was that north/south choke win for Monson.

by TabascoSAUCE on Jun 24, 2008 3:38 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

At one point monson was a legitimate fighter (way more so than friar slice) at one point, now he is past prime. He never fully made a great transition to MMA, but as a grappler and a huge fan of submission grappling, Monson is and was a completely badass at choking people.

Yes monson has waaay more experience than kimbo, but he makes a valid point. what fighter with 3 wins against bums deserves to be on the cover of espn mag. representing mma? so if that is the case than he should have to fight other fighters that are representations of the sport. because if he were 3-0 against fighters like monson than maybe he’d be deserving of the cover. not to mention that he looked terrible in his last fight-on the ground and on his feet.

Monson via north-south choke in under 2 minutes.

by El dirte on Jun 23, 2008 1:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I am SO sick of people ragging on Kimbo. Here’s a guy who fought in the streets to make money. Decided to go legit and is working hard training and so on to make himself a better fighter. He has COMPLETELY QUIT any forms of street fighting and is only training MMA. Doesn’t that say anything for the guy? He doesn’t go around calling people out or calling people names. He doesn’t go out there and say I can beat anyone they put me in the ring against. He always is full of class at the end of the fights and is very humble and admits he’s just starting out and has alot to learn. Doesn’t that speak of anything for Kimbo? I mean, I could see if the guy was still doing street fights while training for MMA and was callin people out left and right and being disrespectful to current and past MMA fighters. But he doesn’t do anything of the sort. He trains, he hypes his fights the same way any other fighter has to hype his fight and he respects his peers. What is wrong with that? Please explain that to me.

by Jason Moore on Jun 23, 2008 1:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

No, you’re right in that a lot of hate that should be directed at Gary Shaw and Elite is misdirected at Kimbo. He’s doing the right thing, the right way. He’s just unfortunate to have Shaw mouthing off while managing his career and putting an entire organization on his shoulders. That said, if Kimbo doesn’t start having the fights, or hell, even showing some MMA skills, Shaw’s house of cards will come down. Oh, and john, I think you’re very correct in that Grim is no big sh*t either.

by chefdaddy on Jun 23, 2008 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jason, Kimbo’s fight with Tank was class? He hit Tank in the back of the head, then he was trying to push the Ref aside so he can keep going, The Ref was asking Kimbo to go to his corner and he wouldnt, Then the Ref stopped again to get the mouth piece and Kimbo grabbed it and threw it out. Is that class?

I think the hate comes from Shaw saying Kimbos elite and will put him in there with any fighter. Still I dont think any joe off the street can just go in there and do what he did, so much respect for that.

I think you make a good point, and clearly stated at that. I agree that he does carry himself in a respectful manner. About the only thing I could criticize Kimbo for is not laying off the smokes, because he was dogging it pretty hard after the Thompson fight.

In general I would agree with you Jason, and chef and scotts comments too. BUT, when kimbo said “tapping out is for bitches”, it was on, IMO. Bitches? is that why his crew had to run and save him from a simple standing guillotine from a hack like gannon? and then wouldn’t let him throw knees? Sounds like kimbo should have gone into boxing. So, yes, kimbo does get a lot of heat that Shaw made for him, and thats not fair. But this isn’t miami anymore where he can go pick his opponents from a methadone clinic, and when he gets put to sleep finally im going to have to wear diapers so I don’t wet myself in laughter.

The only people who can say tapping out is for b*tches, are people who have never been put in a submission hold by someone who knows what they are doing. Monson via figure four leglock!

I don’t know if someone else has already stated it but I think Jeff Monson should have cut some of his girth and dropped to a lower weight class a long time ago. If he hasn’t figured out his glaring height disadvantage yet though, he probably never will.

wow monson cant really think hes that tough calling out KIMBO SLICE.. i mean any decent heavyweight with some experience against top competition would dominate kimbo probably even lighter guys.

cant blame him for wanting the exposure though. and to be the first guy to expose slice in an mma match.

by AzCombat on Jun 23, 2008 6:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

monson would dominate on the feet too! dont forget his pro boxing experience. however, he’d probably just try to take him down and submit him him with whatever he felt like. would be cool as hell to see him ko kimbo on the feet though.

jeff monson, even monson is tring to cash in off of kimbo I didn’t even know monson knew how to talk monson is tring to keep some of that fading spot light on him monson is not that impressive his dam self he has never beat a top rank fighter either he might as well call out kimbo their is nothing out their left for him any way he always chokes when they give him a big fight!

hahaha did you hear Monsons voice tremble when he said Gary Shaw? He wasn’t THAT into it.

by RyanHobbs on Jun 24, 2008 12:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

IF SHAW DONT LET MONSON FIGHT KIMBO OR AT LEAST [BRETT ROGERS{ FIRST BECAUSE HE IS A MOR THAN WORTHY OPPONENT AND WILL BEAT CARL FERGUSON…]KIMBO SLICE IS A STUPID NICK NAME SOME IDIOT THOUGHT OF THAT FOR HIM .AFTER BRETT ROGERS BEATS HIM WHICH WONT TAKE LONG THEN MONSON AND HE WILL BE BACK WERE HE BELONGS ON THE STREET AND IF SHAW KEEPS THROWING LOOSERS AT HIM THEN SHAW WILL BE EXPOSED .

Monson wants money and so do I. I’d bet Monson but it aint gonna happen.

We all know the reasons.

Kimbo punches faces in the street and might have a road dog shoot you.

Everyone else trained in the guy and likes having the referee there to protect them.

Give Kimbo another 18 months and see who want’s a piece. My guess is that plenty of fools will drop off.

Gary shaw is a fat old school style slimy boxer promoter.
He belongs in a bad godfellas era movie in his fag track suit not managing an mma orginization.
In fact here is an article about him talking shit about mma a few years back.
