That fight was sick!!! Hazlett’s striking looked real good.

by JV on Jun 23, 2008 3:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I thought Burkman was winning the standup but Hazelett looked pretty good (just look at Burkman’s left eye). Hazelett is no joke. If he can work on his stand up a little more the sky’s the limit for this kid.

After seeing Hazelett’s BJJ acumen in this fight, I’m wondering why he didn’t look to take the fight to the ground against Kos.

In AFFLICTION NEWS:

Just read an interview with Donald Trump and he says that he is in it for the long haul. He also said the fight card for the 2nd event is almost complete and that it will be better than Tim/Fedor card!

by john on Jun 23, 2008 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hope so but since when did Donald Trump know a good card fom a bad card lol

by Automation on Jun 24, 2008 5:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He seems to know for sure. Have u seen what Affliction is organizing for the fans?

That may be the best mma card of the year. Best heavyweight card EVER, better than any Heavyweight Grand Prix’s!

It’s a great fight – if you like high level JUjitsu..Hazlett really outclassed Burkman, its too bad it wasnt televised, i suppose showing the “Knockout of the Night” by Mcfedris instead caters to the lowest denominator category.

Check it out, its a pretty sick way to end the fight.

by MMAjitsu.com on Jun 23, 2008 3:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

So impresed by Hazelett, that was one of the slickest arm-bars I have ever seen, and Burkman is no pushover.

No one wants your stupid autographed shorts, and no one is paying $80 for shipping so quit trying.

Nice to be able to see it… UFC has been spoiling us rotten lately they must feel the heat from Affliction… which is a great thing!!! Hope more organizations come our way.

by Robert on Jun 23, 2008 4:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i can’t believe the ufc is showing a fight on the net!! good transition to the arm bar!!!

by PHIANSOURI on Jun 23, 2008 4:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hazelett is the truth!!! to keep it 100 with you guys..VM had put me on to him a while back..I started to pay attention to this gem of a fighter cuz of Violent Mike.. Dustin F’n gets it..he shows how BJJ can be applied with an open mind to the MMA game..it’s exciting..that’s what hater’s at PTI should watch..when they want to talk smack about our sport of MMa. Watch a Mclovin fight..and you to would be sold.. his BJJ sells!!!!!!!!!

by PhilQNY on Jun 23, 2008 4:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for the props Phil. I was holding Hazelett up on my pedastal since I seen him anaconda Steven Lynch. I believed I got John on the McLovin bandwagon a while back as well, but he probably won’t admit it. LOL. I said a lot about this fight already. One moment please.

But before I do so, that was one of the slickest arm bars EVER, bar none (pun intended, of course)

by ViolentMike on Jun 23, 2008 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now Remember, you got more hooked by McLovin because of me just remember that :). For people who say he needs to work on his stand up, watch the Chad Reiner/McLovin fight.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 23, 2008 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely Mr.NC17. you are my insider for Gurgel’s gym. You had him on your radar before the UFC. He wasn’t on mind until I watched his second UFC fight on YouTube.

Dustin looked fabulous in that bout. Submission after submission after submission. Vicous omaplata. One of the slickest armbars in the history of the UFC – freestyle baby!!!

Talk about the student being better than the teacher!

Meaning, Hazelett better applies his BJJ skills in MMA than Gurgel does.

Good to hear Bruce Buffer back to announcing his nickname, McLOVIN, and what is up with The People Warrior’s new nickname?? Josh "Hollywood" Burkman. Are you f’ing kidding me? The only thing Hollywood about him are his spinning twirly ballerina kicks he all of a sudden loves to throw.

McLovin is just sooooooooo McLovable!!!

How can you not be a fan of this kid?

by ViolentMike on Jun 23, 2008 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn’t know anything about Hazelett before his fight with Kos. Impressed me a ton in that fight. I’ll check the Reiner/Hazelett fight out.

I don’t think his striking is bad, but it definitely needs to improve if he wants to move to the upper echelons of the WW division. Obviously his BJJ is top of the line. I agree with VM, that armbar might have been the best I’ve ever seen. Came out of nowhere. He knew the round was winding down so he just went for it.

I have no idea how the UFC did not get this on the telecast. I was saying before the event that they needed to put this fight on the main card. Every fight that went to a decision was killing me because I knew they wouldn’t show this fight.

by RealDrew on Jun 23, 2008 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He would of submitted Josh Koscheck if there only would of been like 20 extra seconds on the clock. That Triangle was in pretty deep.
Please check out that Reiner/McLovin match, its very very quick, and it shows McLovin has tremendous power in his hands.

Have you guys seen the Marcus Auerillo vs. Ryan something in the UFC.. that is bar none the best Armbar that I have ever witnessed, and McLovin’s was insanely crazy as well. I saw him do that in practice once last year, and I was in awe.

Now if Jorge Gurgel would only take a dude down to the mat. McLovin learned his jitsu from Jorge, and Jorge has those same skill sets of incredible Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but never uses them.

BTW, how sick was that omoplata? He almost finished Burkman with that… Dustin is a tank, and the best BJJ artist in that welterweight division.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 23, 2008 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mr.NC17, in the post fight octagon interview, Dustin says that he has never practiced that move, arm bar off the wizzer, and they he just freestyled it. Because one of his instuctors told him something to the effect of once you reach the level of BJJ that Dustin is at, you are no longer looking to “do moves”, you need to be innovative and improvise.

Did our beloved McLovin lie to us?

Speaking of McLovin, last night I was flipping thru my Guide, and tuned into the Guys Choice Awards on Spike. It was very entertaining and worth watching, even if all you see is Steve Correll’s ecceptance speach for winning the funnies MF’er award.

I want Dustin vs. Diego Next!

or Dustin vs. Marcus Davis

by john on Jun 23, 2008 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I highly doubt you will see Dustin vs. Davis. Davis spent a lot of time at Jorge’s gym learning the ground game and he trained with Dustin quite a bit. I could be wrong and they might both say ok but I would highly doubt they would want to fight one another at this point and time in their careers.

Besides, Marcus is coming off a loss and I think we will see Dustin get a guy who is coming off a win next. Dustin vs. Diego would be good because if Diego tries to take Lil D down then he will be in serious trouble.

I was at that event when McLovin’ beat Stevie Lynch. That was 72 in Belfast last year. He’s got some serious skills and he’s only 22. Huge potential.

Joe Rogan in an interview a while back was asked who is a sleeper fighter that nobody knows about he said “Hazelett is the real deal”, He really is a great up and coming fighter. Also I know some people get annoyed with Rogan sometimes but in all honestly the guy is the smartest play by play guy in MMA.

by Robert on Jun 23, 2008 6:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wicked fight! I’m not a fan of Burkman but he showed some great submission defense, but that armbar came out of nowhere! Hazelett looked great in that fight, I look forward to seeing some more of that in the future…

by JRK on Jun 23, 2008 4:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hazelett is definetely one to watch for. Look forward to seeing more about him in the future.

McLovin is quickly becoming a fan favorite. A few more years and he could be a serious contender. There is only 1 problem with this fight… I have never said this before but, I wish it would have gone to a decision…

by BNF on Jun 23, 2008 4:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Won just under $400 thanks to Dustin. Thank you Dustin!

Bet on him to win the Kos fight, unfortunately he got caught even though he won rd1 pretty soundly.

He’s definitely going to become a big player in the welterweight division, especially at the rate his standup is coming along – and his ground game is excellent, always active! Brilliant!

by Xad on Jun 23, 2008 4:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I bet more on him in the Kos fight than I did in the Burkman fight…. His odds were doubley as good against Kos. +350 and was +175 against Burkman.

by ViolentMike on Jun 23, 2008 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Damn Koscheck Headkick.. Dustin won that first round and almost finished off Koscheck, TWICE.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 23, 2008 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Me and my brother’s heads almost hit the ceiling we jumped up so high when Dustin leveled Josh in the firet, we really thought he was about to finish him. That WOULD have won me $350.

by ViolentMike on Jun 23, 2008 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know the feeling ViolentMike, after catching up on his other UFC fights, i bet on him to win against Koscheck too, fortunately i bet less than this time (although would have won way more – odds were sweet and crazy, obviously the oddmakers didn’t watch any of his past fights). When he sent Koscheck stumbling back and follow with a big knee, i thought my heart was going to explode. He won rd1 pretty soundly, unfortunately he got caught with a headkick.

In a rematch Dustin wins.

John was asking me about Raymond Daniels. I had seen him fight in WCL one time about a year back. After watching that episode of WCL, I was actually raving about Daniles on this site. I really wish I knew where to find a link to the fight that I saw.

Alright, here is a KO highligh reel. Some KO’s are simply RIDICULOUS!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrHIHaBiGkc

I am 100% sure that this is the exact fight that I saw. Honestly, watching it this time, I was literally laughing at the stuff he does. it is insane!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKNxKWQqyqs

LOLOLOL, then Cauldwell got a rematch at some point. He tries to use some of the “Real Deal’s” footwork. Loot at what happens to him for trying it. LOLOL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4hVMfi_5cU

Just go to youtube and search ‘raymond daniels’ and I GUARANTEE that you will be entertained.

If you even have a couple minutes, check them out. If you aren’t impressed with his standup, then, well, I don’t know. Outside of Anderson Silva he could instantly be the 2nd best striker in the MW divisision. Personally, I think that he may prove to be too fast for Cung Le if they were to ever fight. Cung would be a big favorite if they fought in like Daniel’s 3rd fight or so. I would be all over that underdog bet!

Ok, there hasn’t been any comments on this yet, so I’m going to assume that no one clicked on those links above that I provided.

If you are at home and reading this, you have NO excuse not to watch! Its must see tv!!!, or should I say must see youtube.

I’m outta work for the day. And I will be checking this thread in the morning.

So all of you, please do your MMA homework for the night, its not much!!!!

I just realised Raymond Daniels fought in the Irish Open last year. Apparently the Irish Open is the World’s biggest WAKO tournament in the world. In ’07 there was 136 competitors from 27 countries. Daniels fought an Irish guy in the grand final which amazed me. Scores were even with 5 seconds to go and Daniels landed just before the bell to win on points.

He is an outrageous talent. Great find.

by RobH86 on Jun 23, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good Stuff.. VM digging crates.. His striking is like Dustin’s grappling..just nasty.

by PhilQNY on Jun 24, 2008 8:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He’s definatly got game! He’s gona waste away in the WCL though. I tried to give it a chance but it got kinda old, so I stopped watching.

JV, Daniels made the switch to MMA and fights next week in the Strikeforce event!!!!!!!!!!

This guy is very impressive Mike. He’s ridiculously fast. I would love to see him make the transition to mma because a lot of the other supposedly great strikers aren’t exactly setting the world alight. With his natural speed and athleticism he’s bound to have an excellent sprawl.

by RobH86 on Jun 23, 2008 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ridiculous. He looks like a cartoon character winding up the punch, but then he lands it.

by BobC on Jun 23, 2008 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thank u mike! that guy can strike thats for sure…He also has great speed. It will be interesting to see his UFC debut thats for sure. Only watched the 1st 2 videos so far, I will get to the rest ASAP!

U r right about the fact that he will make for a great underdog bet…talk about a PUNCHERS CHANCE!!

FREE over ufc.com my ass… not for us who live outside the states obviously. 1.90 for a free fight, just cause we live in europe? Thank god I download and watch all the PPV’s and prefights for free anyways, hehe.

As for the topic at hand, Hazelett is definitely beautiful to watch in the octagon. always enjoy an active guard game, and to see someone almost getting finished by an omoplata is absolutely a treat! Not since that Gomi fight was I this close to wetting my pants. Well, that’s only cause I didn’t get to see that Aoki finish live…

Can’t wait to see McLuvin fighting again!

by Raul on Jun 23, 2008 4:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I could swear it was 1.90 bucks when I tried it myself earlier today. Seems to be working just fine from this link mania.

Either way, kickass fight! Don’t miss it you guys!

Not only the armbar that impressed me but the sub attempts in the first round were amazing.I am offically on the Hazelett band wagon!

Burkman squinting at the end looks at Hazelett, “Nice, that was a good kick”…priceless.

by Nokimono on Jun 23, 2008 5:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

gotta give credit to burkman too cuz he was landing elbows, couple solid connecting straights, kicks, & SLAMS. he was untouched and making Hazelett look foolish standing until the last exchange with the headkicks. I’d say he won both rounds up until that point. but McLovin’s ability to take a beating, capitalizing off of ROCKING burkman and ending it quick was impressive.

god this fight was sick burkman is really de people warrior this guy came out to fight but dustin show his great great submission skill the omoplata and the anaconda choke was great, good defending for burkman but the armbar was like WOW came out from nowhere i wanna see more from this guy

To clear something up VM asked…Dustin did not learn that transition from Jorge. He made it up. Jorge did tell him, like he does all his advanced students, that when you get to a certain level it is no longer about individual moves it is about improvisation. Maybe Lil D did do that move once before but I know he does not practice that move.

by StayDown on Jun 24, 2008 12:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

UFC needs to do this with every card. Put a good fight on their website for free. It allows them to hype the upcoming cards with interviews like we just saw with Griffin and Jackson.
