Megadeth to perform at Affliction 'Banned' event at Honda Center

Props: Affliction MMA
Quoteworthy:
"... heavy metal band Megadeth, led by frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Dave Mustaine, will be performing live at the event. The platinum selling band, Megadeth has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and will electrify the audience with a special highlight performance. Known for their distinctive, in-your-face guitar solos, snarling vocal style and dark lyrical themes, Megadeth is sure to resonate with the "Affliction Banned" fan base and intensify the already action-packed event."
Dare I say a "Symphony of Destruction" will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on July 19? Couldn't resist. Perhaps the Earth "starts to rumble." Ok ... enough.

now that is pretty damn cool! i’ve been a fan of megadeth since they first started out.
i guess i shouldn’t be surprised since a lot of metal bands sport Affliction shirts.

I said I heard about this about a month ago, and you guys all said it was a dumb idea, and I agree. This is how they are going to sell tickets since there isn’t a big name on the card. Don’t give me the Fedor is a big name speech, his name sold approx. 1000 tickets. And lastly those wamma top 10’s… how is fedor #1 if the criteria is opponents, common opponents and recent fight activity! HMC isn’t a top fighter, lindland is a mw and coleman is old. All you guys who have a vote need to get out from under fedor’s nuts, at least until he has 2 quality wins in a 9 month period. I’m not saying he isn’t the best, but by those criteria, he isn’t, plain and simple!
by kevin on Jun 19, 2008 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
when he wipes the floor with timmy, you can jump on the bandwagon then kevin and the whole card is filled with names other than his so i dout megadeth doing one or two songs is selling the tickects for them if anythin its just another expense, i like having megadeth there it makes for a good night in my eyes but i guess you have to like them to agree.
by roy on Jun 19, 2008 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
ok roy, give me all the names that are going to sell tickets and ppv’s! I know them and you know them, and the 1000 or so bloggers know them! I bet you anything this event does less than the 50,000 ppv’s fedor did with bodog (thats a generous #by the way). And you liking megadeth is cool, go comb your mullet and face facts, casual fans know nobody on this card. Hardcore fans do, but we are in limited #‘s. And I’m sure you’ll say fedor has fought top competition in the past 2 years right?

the way you talk i don’t think your that hardcore, maybe ufc hardcore.you already know the names and so do any ufc fans there’s what 4 former ufc hw champs on the card.from all your posts i get the feeling your not excited about this event at all and that shows me where you stand how long have you been a ufc fan for.if they do 50,000 ppv’s or close thats not that bad for a first event plus the revenue from the venue and dvd sales maybe they won’t lose that much or break even.

Who cares about tunes when its MMA time!?!?!?!!! If i wnna concert ill go to Shrline and watch some Dave Matthews, unless Fedor is on the mic i could care less!

Fedor and arlovskii would be a better fight, and you said it, an bunch of former UFC guys that were gone before TUF. NO one besides )once again, let me say it slowly for you) the 1500 or so bloggers know who pedro rizzo or barnett are. I’m looking forward to it, but it’s less talked about than elite, where’s the marketing? If ufc is commercial free, I’ll watch that, if not I’ll dvr it and FF through commercial. Roy, you do realize that fedor is proven to NOT sel ppv’s, and my prediction by the way is less than 25,000 buys. I actually hope I’m wrong, but that doesn’t happen too often

revenue from venue?? 20,000 seats at 100 each doesn’t pay megadeath!
am I close mania??

check the prices, best seats 1000 good seats 300-400 i did not look at the rest because i would not sit any father back and at that price i will stay home and throw a party for it.i see your point but i don’t see them folding after 1 event and with the names they have hopefully people that don’t know will soon and hopefully for the 2nd event we will see some of those match ups
fedor vs aa or barnett
sylvia vs rothwell
barnett vs aa

also your wrong about only the 1500 bloggers knowing about barnett, anyone that has followed mma over the last few yrs knows who he is and the 100,000 plus japanese fans that showed up to events know who he is and like i said hopefully soon every mma fan will know who he is.

There are so many babies here its unbelievable. It could have been anyone else and most of you would still be crying about something!
This continues to be the all UFC or nothing show for most of you! If the UFC would announce a MEGADETH or any other band playing during one of their shows, you guys would be saying how cool it would be. Just sit back and enjoy the fights, let everything else just be what it is, ya whiners!

wrong, I would hat a concert at any event, the difference is though, the UFC marketing team would get a band curbed less toward mullet sporting crowd. It could be lil wayne or steve miller or jimmy buffet or counting crows or anyone, I would call it lame no matter what!

you guys do realize Korn was their first choice. I don’t get it, why not go after Iron Maidon? maybe at their second event…oh wait, with 3 million going out in the main event alone, and 20,000 ppv’s times 50 bucks (and you guys do realize they only get like 50% of oov money right) I that doesn’t even pay Fedor. The event won’t sell out either. My prediction…at least 5-10 million in the whole after 1 event. It’s really too bad!!!!

You know they haven’t done a good job advertising this event. This is an attempt to get people interested and talking about the show. I agree it doesn’t make any sense because it shows desperation and when comparing it with EXC shows that they don’t learn well from others mistakes. I hope they don’t have dancing girls and a silly walk up ramp as well. The girls were good looking but made the show look cheap. They need to advertise on popular networks with less disturbing commercials.

If Affliction wants to stand up against the UFC, they cant make it into a spectacle. They have the strongest card outside of the UFC with Fedor/Sylvia/Arlovski/Babalau this just makes it seem like theyre taking a step back…
Ah who knows – maybe theyre trying to make it more “Super Bowl-esque” with a Megadeth halftime show or something
With Elitexc & Affliction putting pressure on the UFC – this can only mean better shows for the fans. Anderson Silva a lhw as a result? Totally sweet.

And wheres the the hate for the Fedor/Tim fight being for a belt? Why not AA or Barnett, nobody seems to care about that, but will cry about the UFC giving Forrest or Mir get a shot? Affliction wont last long, and thats a good thing. That being said I hope Tim knocks Fedor the f**k out.

by blah on Jun 19, 2008 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Totally agree bro. People need to make up their minds. I don’t even get what the belt is. Not affliction, right, WAMMA or whatever. Since they can fight in any org will that belt be recongnized in Dream, Strikeforce, XC or any org? And a bunch of HW could be BORING. AA hasn’t exactly been on fire lately. Plus Megadeath, who gives a sh%t. And the only reason I want Tim to win is to ruin all of Randy’s plans.
But just remember we want it to last for a little bit. Look what we get… Silva/Irvin for free.

As mentioned before on a previous thread. Affliction needs to step it’s marketing scheme. Not just internet. CableTV. Radio.Newspapers. the works. I like the idea of a band/Artist performing..it makes more of a show. That’s what I liked about pride…outside the fact they had the best fighter’s on the roster..but for their " show " type atmosphere. The UFC puts on some really good cards..but lack in the " show " aspect of it. It’s always the same. Fighter proflie..to dudes saying what they will do to the other..yada yada..I liked it pride when all the fighters would come out in the opening ceremony..that shit was hard..my dudes. I hope Affliction can have american/pride type of feel to it. Where it’s just not 8 fights..in a row. plain. I want to see a " show "

I was at the IFL championship last year and the “musical” performance they had was some Britney Spears wannabe…I remember saying then I wish the music matched the genre…mma isn’t pop and dance…its hard rock and heavy metal. What do you think of when you think mma?? some 17 year old teenie bopper shakin’ her thing(nice visual, but not even frickin’ legal!!) or a screaming guitar and edgy lyrics. While I don’t think Megadeth makes a difference to the show’s success, at least they got the right music genre for once.

IMo..Music should reenforce the obvious. SO " HEavy Metal should be tagged with MMA. I wouldn’t want to see a Britny Spears type chick..but some rock. reggae. old school type hip hop would be cool. For my Brazilian Peeps it ‘s all about " Charlie Brown Jr. " that’s that f’n band right there
by PhilQNY on Jun 19, 2008 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Charlie Brown Jr broke up. Badass band though. Loved em to death. But come on dude, CBjr would be the first to tell you that metal wouldn’t be anywhere without Megadeth, go buy “Rust in Peace” and tell me that the music is not inspired. One of the top 5 Albums ever next to:
1. Dark Side of the Moon. (Pink Floyd)
2. Master of Puppets (Metallica)
3. Scenes from a Memory (Dream Theater)
4. Rust in Peace (Megadeth)
5. Iron Maiden (Powerslave)
I really was perfectly content getting my free UFC fight on Spike that night, but the thought of seeing Megadeth live and Fedor fight gives me a woody. I think Affliction just intrigued me out of $39.99. Well done!

The UFC is really intent on trying to make this a non-event with their Free tv event now scheduled to conflict with this card.
It really is a great example of the bullying that is prevelent in this business. (What makes TUF so interesting is locking up 16 bullies together with no schleps to bully.)
The UFC is not happy that they are now facing some real competition in the MMA promo biz.
The UFC’s had a free run in this biz for quite a while, but now look to have some serious competition.
There are some real big $$$ppl backing up Affliction and more & more fighters are questioning their deals with the UFC, particularily the “exclusivity” of their contracts. These exclusive deals really hurt us all, as the fighters can only fight in the UFC & therefore cannot (sometimes) make a decent living. A fighter has a very short “shelf life” & needs to make his dough while he can. In the UFC, a figher may have a 3 fight deal, (prob for some good $$$), but he may not get those fights in under 2 or 3 years. Not enough action for an MMA figher to make it in the biz. The UFC needs to drop its exclusivity for its non-championship calibre fighers.
I think the competition is good for us fans as it will force the UFC… (& other promotions) to put on the best shows possible to draw us to buy. It also forces Promotions to pay the fighters what they’re worth.
I really do love the UFC, it’s brought MMA to the mainstream. But to maintain the integrity of the sport, you can’t have a monopoly.
I will buy the PPV event & record the UFC fight card for later viewing.

The biggest problem here isn’t the music.
The biggest problem is the fights are going to be in a ring.
I realize that some of you guys are old skool, and like it.
But, let’s be honest, how much fun is it to the rest of us to watch them take a break and roll to the center of the ring.
It sucks! Caged fights have the potential to be much more exciting and require a little bit more strategy on the fighters’ part. If Affliction was going to take place in a cage, I would say this card would be a “must buy”. Or if the top fighters were fighting each other. As it stands, the AA vs. Rothwell is probably the most even fight, and will most likely be the fight of the night on the Affliction card.

I wouldn’t go to a mixed martial arts event to watch a band, but Megadeth is one of my favorite bands. They were my first favorite band, as I was turned on to their music back in 1992 when Countdown to Extinction was released. Megadeth booked at the Affliction event is interesting, but I’ll continue to enjoy mixed martial arts and music separately. I wonder if Dave Mustaine of Megadeth enjoys mixed martial arts? I don’t care for Megadeth anymore. They did a competition with DeviantART just to get some free art work in exchange for petty prizes. The standard fee for album cover design is between $3,000 and $10,000 plus royalties on the sell of any merchandise involving the image. That is for bands that are relatively new under a decent record label. Megadeth could have afforded to actually pay the kid. All they offer is a small prize and the privilege of being taken advantage of. No thanks DeviantART and shame on Megadeth!
