UFC announcement delay ... again

Dave Meltzer has the scoop via F4WOnline.com:
"Dana White has moved the meeting for UFC employees to Noon tomorrow (Wednesday) for the big announcement. So word should break shortly after that time."
This better be good.
And even though we promised not to speculate, it is worth noting that the New York Assembly Tourism, Arts and Sports Development Committee is expected to cast a preliminary vote (again) on proposed legislation to legalize mixed martial arts in the "Empire State" tomorrow.
Perhaps the two are somehow related ... or not.
(Thanks to Michael Rome of BloodyElbow.com for clarification on the vote.)

If all this hype for the past two to three weeks is about this, it will be a HUGE let down. And this is coming from someone that lives an hour away from MSG!
IF this is Dana’s BIG announcement, I sincerely hope that Gary Shaw is able to book MSG for an Elite show before Dana can book it for the UFC. Now how funny / ironic would that be?
by ViolentMike on Jun 17, 2008 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That would suck because Zuffa is the company that has spent money trying to make this happen. Gary Shaw is just capitalizing on the sport that Zuffa has built.
by brad on Jun 17, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
they have done alot for the sport but there not alone in building it.it was here before them.

This has been a non-story for awhile!!!!

now way, the whole mma nation wouldn’t get this worked up over that
by bigbadbrad on Jun 17, 2008 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
For the first event ever at MSG, they shouldn’t just throw a bunch of mid tier fighters together on 3 weeks notice. Its just a bad idea!
by ViolentMike on Jun 17, 2008 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No way, If Dana is going to do an event a MSG then he will do it right. I can see him doing the NYE event there and having a ton of great fights…Nog vs Mir, Hughes vs Serra and Dana’s boyfriend chuck will have to be involved! I could definetly see chuck getting his shot at the title against the winner of Page vs Forrest.
The only way this announcement is big enough for all the hype is if they are having an event at MSG and it will be the debut of their network tv deal and it will be the superbowl of events…then Dana will live up to the hype he has created.
Also, I dont see Elite XC having the ability to leap frog the UFC in this situation and getting an event booked first…but I do see Affliction with MR. NYC (The Donald) having the power and ability.

this is ridiculous im tired of waiting.I am probably the biggest fan in PA but this is alm ost pathetic.Im guessing Dana made a mess with his comment and now is trying to throw something together to make up for it.TO LATE DANA

Even if it is related, I could care less where the fights are to take place as long as they are good fights. If this is the “big” announcement I’m going to curse Dana White until I’m blue in the face….not that he gives a damn. But seriously this is turning into becoming a pitiful spectacle.
by bigbadbrad on Jun 17, 2008 2:35 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If that is the big announcement it is warranted man. It doesn’t matter what you care about, but that it would be a good thing for the MMA community as a whole. Although from the looks of this New York isn’t going to take the deal.

So this Texan is in Boston and goes to visit Harvard. He asks a local Harvard guy, “Excuse me, can you tell me where the library is at?” The Harvard guy responds saying, “Here at Hah-vahd we only speak proper English. If you can ask me correctly without ending your query in a preposition I shall direct you to the library.” So the Texan says, “OK. Can you tell me where the library is at, asshole?”

The press has worked this up way too much. Its just impossible for it to deliver anymore
by chris on Jun 17, 2008 2:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
But I don’t think that’s it, cause there’s a chance that it might not get passed and Dana isn’t stupid enough to say that there will be a big announcement that will show how ufc is going to do in the next 5 yrs without a certainty….but that’s just speculation
by bigbadbrad on Jun 17, 2008 2:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
man, how long are my balls gonna get tickled? short of buying elite and only keeping the caesar gracie guys and kj (for 1 fight to get his ass kicked), and I may be let down! If he comes on to announce a tv deal, who cares, we’ve seen the difference between elite shows on cbs and showtime, the network has way too much control! One more thing, I’m glad silva turned down the fight with vera, I think it was a set up for vera to get his 3rd straight loss, so Dana could drop the new contract! I like vera, so I wanna see him win, but I like silva, so I don’t want him to lose!
There’s a good interview with Nick Diaz I read, and he confirmed what I speculated, elite told him to go work the hype for a rematch. Honestly, look at him in Japan, he is respectful, and loves the sport, it, that said, he really hates noons! I do too! It’s not his fault he was born in the worst city in america…I go there at least once a month, and believe me, it’s a sess pool!!!
by kevin on Jun 17, 2008 2:38 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Kevin, this announcement is getting out of hand. At this point, anything less than : everyone who purchases UFC 86, gets a complemantary BJ from Aryiani Celeste, just wont live up to the Hype.
As for Diaz, I agree that he knows how to act and when to act that way. If the Gomi fight was in Japan instead of Vegas, he would have acted differently.
A couple days ago, I posted, that I admire the Diaz brothers for making it where they are coming from where they come. Its a testament to them. So what they act a little nutty….I love it! It pisses me off whne some fighters act that way, but I like it when they do because they are keeping it real, while still knowing how to act in the right situations to positively impact the sport.
Clearly their antics last Saturday had Gary Shaw’s sleazy finger prints all over it.
Like you, I hope he takes Noons arm home, turns it into a bong, and smokes his arm with his hommies in stockton (wow, I am a little too high right now I am getrting a little carried away) Got 1 week off from school, got to enjoy it!
by john on Jun 17, 2008 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
hey john, i was wondering something last night. why not take 3k out of betus and go live to the affliction card? you can afford it and it’s a stacked event. Besides the fact that US crowds (outside of hawaii) suck, do you have another reason not to take a long week end?
by kevin on Jun 17, 2008 3:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
School man! YOu think I didnt think about it already?
plus I think the next event I will go to will be a trip to see DREAM in Japan, unless the UFC can pull off an MSG event in the mean time!

I have a message to New York Legislation peeps..and the rest of fronting states..If cigarettes and boxing are legal..why not MMA?? It is the best sport ever ( next to soccer IMO )..MMA/UFC has to have an event at MSG..the Mecca of Sports..it’s so over due. UFC99 live from MSG MM/DAY/Year..
Fight Card: jus to throw some match ups out there..
Rampage vs Thiago Silva
Shogun vs Machida
BJ Penn vs GSP part2
Anderson Silva vs Leites
Ken Flo vs Mac Danzig
Nick Diaz vs Tyson Griffin
Matt Hughes vs Karo
…which ever way you want to paint it..it better be a sick fight card.. I would vomit if Bisping or Rashad are the Main event at MSG. UFC 78..the tristate got played with that as a main event. can’t have that happen again.
by PhilQNY on Jun 17, 2008 2:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Phil: As usual, I love the way u think!
It would be better if it were UFC 100: from MSG! 100 Aniversary event has to take place at the Garden (i will see you and Violentmike there lol).
I love your match ups, The only changes I would make are:
Ken Flo vs. Hermes
Diaz vs. Danzig
Tyson Griffin vs. Joe stevenson
or they could introduce a lighter division at this event and have:
Urijah Faber vs. Kid Yammamoto! WOW!!
I think Hughes vs. Karo is an excellent idea. This fight is a long time overdue, sice Karo was supposed to fight Hughes, but he got hurt and Riggs had to step in
Great Post!

Ur totally on point with UFC100..as funny as this may sound..it’s no big difference..but I think UFC100 sounds too far away..and UFC99 sounds like it would closer..hehehehehe..no differnce..I know. I would love to see a lighter division installed under UFC flag..if peeps like us..could have a say in MMA/UFC things..IMO the MMAworld would be a better place.

I think you guys are crazy…we built this sport out here in VEGAS! This is the birth place of UFC! UFC 100 has to be out here…Dana White owes us that! Dont get me wrong, I was born in Fort Lee NJ and lived there for the first 10 years of my life but since then I have been Vegas bred and WE WILL GET UFC 100…Dana is in the papers all the time out here talking about how since we dont have any sports teams he will make this Vegas’s first option for sporting events! I do think the UFC owes it to NYC to have a block buster card cause you are right Phil the tri-state got robbed with the last event!

I personally believe ufc will take a large jump in ppv buys and fanbase when the ufc video game comes out.

The game needs to be good though. It has to be playable by people who don’t know anything about MMA. Then it could have the same effect that the Tony Hawk game series did to skateboarding and the X Games.

Why would an event at MSG be an indication of where the sport is going over the next 5 years? I guess it would be cool to have a New Year’s Eve show at MSG with Chuck vs Rampage and GSP vs BJ Penn… but to me, the fights would be the bigger deal. I don’t really care where they are unless they are in Ohio so I can attend. I love Dana White, and it really isn’t his fault (entirely) that this is blown out of proportion. We did that, mania did that (no offense), the media has done that. That being said, I really hope it is more than just an event at MSG.

they’d probably do MSG on new years eve, with a huge headlining fight like gsp vs silva or penn but gsp most likely will be in it, as would chuck, and forrest maybe a fight between them, and maybe rich franklin would be on that one too..
his announcement might be they added a womens division too it is kinda new to mainstream mma why wouldnt he jump in on that? and the ufc don’t have to add a lower weight class same people own the wec as the ufc i doubt they would take talent from 1 company to another that they own

Please don’t be a women’s division, that would suck. All that would mean is less good fights on the main card. I have no interest at all in seeing women MMA. Thats just me.
