It’s that Fedor and Tim are fighting for the WAMMA title! I don’t have time to explain right now.

WAMMA, wasn’t that that crap in that elevated floor that was in Atlantic City? John, I remember you winning free tickets to it, did you ever attend?
by ViolentMike on Jun 17, 2008 12:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was joking. And no, that’s YAMMA.

Oh yeah, isn’t that supposed to be that group of people that put out the “official ranking” and don’t consider the organization?
Just checked, and it sure is!
Any word on WAMMA deeming other fights as WAMMA title fights?

Is that like the Kumite mat from Bloodsport? I think they only used it in the final match when JC Van Dam overcame his temporary blindness to get revenge on the oversized Asian nerd who stomped Ogre’s head outside the Alpha-Beta house and stole his bandanna.

Damn, Mania, Sorry! I had to be somewhere, didnt have time to break it down but Violentmike was correct.
Right now, that was the only fight labeled as a title fight on the Affliction card. That could change but I doubt it because the big name Light Heavyweights on the card aren’t fighting each other.
If they would have matched up Rogerio Nogueira vs. Babalu, then they could have probably made it a LHW title fight. But since baba is fighting the Pimple, and Nog is fighting Tiger, which fight could they make into a title fight? My guess is neither
My guess is, Another title will probably be awarded at the 2nd Affliction event in October/November in addition to Fedor vs. Randy (if the courts allow it).

Thats suppose to be 1 HW belt for all of MMA. Winner of Tim/Fedor gets the title. Its ok I guess, but its just more of other orgs. trying to get the UFC to cross promote.

Wamma:
WAMMA formed in November of last year as MMA’s first sanctioning body with goals that include creating greater visibility for the sport and recognizing world champions in each weight class.

Tanner had a hard task in his first comeback fight. Now that the ring rust has been knocked out of him, he should be a better fighter in this next match. I think he will take it but he really does need to be careful of Groves long reach. Groves does not appear to have the chin that Tanner definately used to have. If he has still got it, he should win this.

Ade: I strongly agree with your comment. Tanner has to watch out for the reach, knees and submissions of kendall, but Tanner’s submission defense is pretty solid so he just has to be careful striking. I expect tanner to take grove down brutally beat him up, and grind it out with some big elbows til we see Kendall’s tiny head bouncing off the canvas and the ref stops it.
These guys bot have a lot to fight for and I doubt that this fight will go to the decision. I wont bet this fight because Tanner is too much of an unknown, but If I had to choose I would go with Tanner!

Grove has to watch out for punches to his caricature-like jaw.

Kendall Grove has been a disappointment. So has Evan Tanner.
Who will disappoint us the least?
by Graham on Jun 17, 2008 12:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Evan Tanner is a former MW champ. Grove has been KTFO in the first round of two straight fights. Tanner, inspite of having his career derailed by problems that he caused himself, is easily less disappointing than Kendall “Team Dagger Sh-Sha” Grove.

Any word on Dana’s announcement? It’s amazing how much hype there was for the announcment, and now we probably won’t even get one.

I’ve always liked Tanner—always entertaining to watch. Unfortunately, I think he suffers from the same fate as many other fighters. Relying one-dimensionally—on taking someone down and pounding them is not a sure thing anymore. It was several years ago. But the progression of fighters and their ability to sprawl out of the attempted generic wrestling take-downs has made it a thing of the past. Just ask Hughes. That being said he should still be able to take out Groves. Lower tier fighters are -and always have been-susceptible to good old-fashioned ground and pound.
