I am hearing Grumbles about an Anderson Silva/Yushin Okami match on this card.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 16, 2008 2:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That fight will over the first round..and it will have the same ending as the first time they fought..with Okami laid out..but this time no BS DQ.

by PhilQNY on Jun 16, 2008 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was just going to post that. Silva has to be fighting someone on this card. He hasn’t fought since UFC 82. I’m sure he’ll be fighting Okami.

I don’t know why they would wait so long to announce it, though. If Anderson’s on the card, it has to at least be a co-main event.

by R-Dizzle on Jun 16, 2008 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Keep in mind that anderson Silva’s mother passed away about a month ago. He may bot be ready by september. I am not sure, but that has to be a reason for his inactivity.

They better start announcing fights soon if these tickets go on sale saturday because so far the main event doesn’t exactly blow me away. I cant see Rashad beating Chuck, I just dont see that happening. IMO a good main event is an unpredictable main event…this is not it!

Shogun vs. Chuck would have been ideal.

by john on Jun 16, 2008 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John,

What is the latest with the Shogun, will he be ready by October?

by Ray on Jun 17, 2008 1:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Last I heard, it was November or December. I would guess that October is a possability. September is out of the question.

The Iceman vs an under qualified wrestler? I’ve never seen that before… lol

by ViolentMike on Jun 16, 2008 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Where’d the corny picture of Rashad doing the Hulk Hogan thing with his ear go?

by ViolentMike on Jun 16, 2008 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

what a BS MATCH! LIDELL is getting the easy road to the title shot…but for what? Hes already gotten destroyed by PAGE and they werent even close. I dont think the majority of MMA fans are interested in seeing #3… Why not face machida? Theres no way he deserves a title shot after this win. he needs to face the real contenders…machida, thiago, or even wanderlei once more to really solidify a shot.

by blah on Jun 16, 2008 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Chuck beats Rashad..it’s 99.9% he will face the winner of Forrest/Page..but if Rashad beats Chuck, does that give Rashad a title shot??

by PhilQNY on Jun 16, 2008 2:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I can see why this would happen – i really wish it wouldnt though. Do we really want to see Chuck get KO’d by Rampage again?

I’d love to see Page go up against Machida

If rashad does get past chuck – which seems unlikely to me – i cant wait for him to get demolished by rampage

by MMAjitsu.com on Jun 16, 2008 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No way. In my opinion, Machida should be next in line for an opportunity for fight for #1 contender, or even an immediate title shot.

A win over Liddell did nothing for Keith Jardine and his hopes for a title shot. I would expect the same of Evans was to beat him. One win over the Iceman doesn’t get you a title shot anymore.

I really want to see Machida vs the elite of the division

by ViolentMike on Jun 16, 2008 3:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree, machida should already get a title shot, but if that does not happen, I’d like to see machida vs the axe murderer, whoever wins should get the title shot.

by linx on Jun 16, 2008 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree and disagree mike, I think rampage would beat him, but if Machida won, no one could catch him to take the title. I know he’s elusive and his foot work is great, but I just want someone to expose him!!

by kevin on Jun 16, 2008 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

VM: U r damn RIGHT! Machida needs to be involved in the next match that dictates who fights for the title and I want to see him face an agressive striker like Wanderlei or tHiago. If Chuck wants a title shot, his camp should stop crying about Machioda being a bad match up, man up and fight Machida,

If Chuck wants to face Rampage for a third time, he should have to earn it. He should have to go through Machida/THiago/Wanderlei/Shogun again to fight Rampage.

If Chuck beats Rashad (which he will) and is then awarded a 3rd shot against Rampage…it will be complete crap, but whatever…I dont mind Rampage whooping on chuck again, plus Rampage gets big bucks for it, so whatever!

Dana needs to stop screwing around with the light heavyweight division and stop worrying about the most marketable fight. THat is the most stacked division in the UFC, if they just gave title shots to those that actually deserve them (Cough Forretsy cough) instead of who is most marketable, it could actually be considered a sport. Dana playing God makes it a little WWEish for my taste!

by john on Jun 16, 2008 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I co sign that.

by PhilQNY on Jun 16, 2008 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think that if Chuck Liddell wins against Rashad Evans (won’t happen) Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell II Winner gets a title shot from Rampage/Forrest vs. Machida.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 16, 2008 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You don’t think Chuck can beat Rashad? You must be a relative of Rashad’s then.

by naturalshadow on Jun 17, 2008 2:36 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gentlemen. Would about Machida vs Thiago Silva ???

by PhilQNY on Jun 16, 2008 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I mentioned that ages ago too PhilQNY :).

I can just picture Thiago getting off a limp Machida and doing his trademark ‘bad ass, slashing throat’ look to the camera lol

by Automation on Jun 16, 2008 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do not think that Thiago Silva would be the man to give Lyoto his first loss. Of course its possible, but I think Thiago’s style will get him in trouble.

If someone is going to be Lyoto, I think it has to be against a counter striker. Chuck would actually be a pretty tough match up for Lyoto if Chuck sat back and waited for Lyoto to attack. The other matchup that wouldn’t favor Lyoto would be against a beast of a wrestler with vicous GnP, no not Tito Ortiz,… This person doesn’t currently exist in the UFC LHW division. Who is now the most dominant LHW wrestler in the UFC??? Matt Hamill?

by ViolentMike on Jun 16, 2008 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I disagree.

A counter fighter against a defensive counter fighter? I can hear the Boos now lol.

I actually think Matt Hamill would do ok if he could get in the clinch with as little damage as possible getting there. Then dirty box, greek roman style :)

Wanderlei has to be an obvious achilles heal for Machida also. Machida needs pressure and Wanderlei has plenty of that and one of the best chins in the world.

by Automation on Jun 16, 2008 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ya i think if Chuck sat back and waited for Machida to strike it would be a 15 minute staring match.

by GSP4Prez on Jun 16, 2008 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

or possibly a dance exhibition.

by DB on Jun 16, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Machida will dance around and Chuck will eventually realzie he has to make this a fight and try and engage.

Machida would probably be happy to not engage and be booed for 15 mins to get the win.

by ShaiZ on Jun 16, 2008 11:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

dude, you’re so full of it. Watch his matches. He engages with everyone. Sokou is just as dangerous as Chuck and Lyoto totally took him on. He engaged with Tito too, but it was sort of flea like, quick punches that do little harm but frustrate. Then when his opponent is frustrated he starts to come in with real stuff. Takedowns etc. Lyoto is deceptively strong.

by dave on Jun 17, 2008 2:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I pray to God no!!!!! Which is why this fight makes no sense at all!!!!

by Robert on Jun 16, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree, Rashad vs Thiago Silva would be much better. No matter what happens, Chuck gets a title shot next year. He’s pushing 40 and won’t be around much longer. Of course Dana is setting up Wandy and Chuck for either a rematch or each getting title shots after next month. I predict one of them will get hurt, and this fight doesn’t happen. RAshad should move up to HW, that’s what he was in TUF 2.

by Homslice on Jun 16, 2008 3:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not really. The loss to Gonzaga was just the beginning of the downfall of the fighter Mirko Cro Cop who used to be the most feared striker on the planet. Now, he is a stepping stone in the Japanese market.

For instance, lets say he wins 4 in a row . . . Who the wins be over that would matter??? Nobodys, and wins over nobodys wont get him back into the UFC.

by ( (Adam G) ) on Jun 16, 2008 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The UFC does not have the top HW’s and Dream co promotes. There are endless possibilities with fighters that are not under the UFC banner, such as fedor (who is not with affliction), barnett, AA (if affliction decides to co promote). Just because someone is not in the UFC does not mean they’ll fight a bunch of no names Adam, you have to understand this. the UFC is great, but it’s not the only place where fighters can make a name for themselves. And there is always the possibility for a return to the UFC too, who knows?

by linx on Jun 16, 2008 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I never said the UFC had anything close to the top HVWTs, but i also forgot DREAM co-promo’s, i guess its not over . . .

yeah but who are we to say who will be able to and who won’t? all I’m saying is that we need to give him a chance. He lost twice! It’s not like a career is over after someone has back-to-back losses. The only reason I fault him is for leaving the UFC, but I’m sure he’ll be able to pick himself back up again.

LMAO, it’s so dead here I pretty much get paid to stay online LOL, and I get paid good… my work hours are from 10am to 8pm with two hours for lunch (here in Brazil we have the bigger meal during the day, I guess in the US and depending where you are it’s during the nights?). Where are you typing from anyways? Must be in Europe to be that late…

BTW, my boss plays counter strike online, so he shouldn’t be unhappy with me staying here and youtube lol.

I’m from the UK, I usually post a few comments, refresh 9000 times then go to bed. Come back on 2 days later then find my post is on page 3 with no replies lol.

Also I don’t come from a place in the UK where mma is common. If someone asks me what sport I like and respond mma, they shuffle away as discretely as possible lol.

chuck vs. evans?? why not shogun He will face Sokoudjou in the same card????

by emiliano on Jun 16, 2008 3:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Shogun is still hurt. He won’t be healthy in time. Shogun/Chuck is a million times more appealing then Chuck/Evans. Evans is a nice matchup for Chuck, and I’m thinking they want to get Chuck another win before another BIG fight on New Year’s.

by R-Dizzle on Jun 16, 2008 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

here we go, everyone will grumble about the card (like the last one) and it will turn out great! Silva would be a main event, so the fact that they already annoinced chuck/rashad as headliner, I doubt he’ll be on this card. If so, okami will be just another victim. I hope chuck ko’s rashad, but I’m not a huge fan of either!

U r probably right Kev

by john on Jun 16, 2008 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

everyone did grumble about the last one – but it was a terrible event imo. Controversial stoppages, point deductions, illegal moves not called, and an mma legend getting KTFO by a fighter who did not make weight?

UFC 85 was a train wreck.

by MMAjitsu.com on Jun 16, 2008 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, and you probably like the cbs show right? 1 controversial stoppage, points were deducted, and for good reason (less the elbow to side of head) and Hughes was plain and simple overmatched! He needs to either retire or become the most dominant gate keeper ever. What was a good event if that one (with 15 fight changes taken into consideration) wasn’t?

by kevin on Jun 16, 2008 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

thinking ufc 85 was terrible = liking elite xc?

if anything – that would mean i thought they were both terrible.

by MMAjitsu.com on Jun 16, 2008 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nah I wasnt a big fan of UFC 85 either, it was okay. I’m not gonna bash it or anything either. It was still 10X better than the Elite XC show.

by RiverHorror on Jun 16, 2008 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I enjoyed 85. It was an exciting night of fights. The point deductions didn’t take anything away from the Marquardt Leites fight. Still may be one of the best fights I’ve ever seen. The point deductions may have even added to the drama. it was a good car. Elite XC was still crap to the highest degree.

Final verdict:
UFC 85= exciting card that was missing a title fight
Elite XC on CBS= 1000% Crap (and yes i mean one thousand percent)

by DB on Jun 16, 2008 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I saw Elite XC on CBS and felt that this event was doing the MMA world a big disservice by having those ridiculous referee and medical stoppages. I was really utterly shocked, all of my friends and I were like mouth agape, then wtf reactions afterward.

by ( (Adam G) ) on Jun 16, 2008 3:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This should be a good fight I think Rashad is a better fighter than most give him credit for. Say what you want he does have a great help to him with Keith Jardine he did beat Chuck before so having him behing you gives him some great insight. I’m not saying that Rashad wins but I don’t think it is a major upset if he doesn’t. In regards to Anderson Silva I say him and Okami is a good main event at UFC 89. There are plenty of good fighters that haven’t fought in a while that could fill the rest of this card.

by Tim on Jun 16, 2008 5:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

When have you seen Rashad hurt by a punch? Thats all I have to say. There are a lot of Rashad haters and it is mostly because of his lay and pray. Rashad will not be able to take Liddell down. It will be a stand up math, of yeah Jardine faired OK and they are from the same camp. I won’t put money down on this fight period but I think it will be a much better fight than most idealize.
