ELITE XC: "RETURN OF THE KING LIVE BLOW-BY-BLOW COMMENTARY:

KJ Noons vs. Yves Edwards

Round 1: Here we go for the Elite XC lightweight belt. Bell rings and gloves touch. KJ with a nice hard body kick. Yves eats it and lands a combo with his hands. KJ is working the jab now and Yves lands a solid right hand on KJ's chin. Kj comes right back with a right hand of his own that drops Yves. KJ jumps right on him looking for the kill. He's landing some bombs and Yves is in deep deep trouble. He's not defending and the ref stops the fight at 4:14 of round one. WOW! All I can say is WOW! Huge huge win for the champ. Wow!

Final result: KJ Noons defeats Yves Edwards via TKO (strikes) Round 1

-end-

Nick Diaz defeats vs. Muhsin Corrbrey

Round 1: No gloves touching in this one. They're feeling each other out but Diaz is stalking Corrbrey. Diaz shoots and Corrbrey kicks and circles. More circling mixed with sporadic punches from both fighters. They clinch and Corrbrey lands a knee and pushes out. Diaz lands a couple jabs. They clinch again and Diaz hits with a nice elbow. Diaz stays on the offensive with his boxing and Corrbrey does his best to dodge the punches. Diaz is looking to land combos and then clinch and push out. Its working for him, but Corrbrey not getting hurt and landing some shots himself. Now Diaz pushes Corrbrey against the fence and works some knees. A few nice punches for Diaz and Corrbrey spins out. He then lands a nice combo ended with a hard body kick. More exchanges won by each fighter and the round ends. Very active round. Hard to judge. I'll score it 10-9 for Diaz for being a little more agressive.

Round 2: More of the same boxinf from Diaz and a kick from Corrbrey to start round 2. Diaz now pushes Corrbrey against the fence and Diaz grabs a leg and is looking for a takedwon. Corrbrey is defending nicely agains the fence and Diaz lets go and they're seperated. More boxing from both. Each guy is landing punches, but Diaz is the one that keeps coming forward. Corrbrey is winning some exchanges now, but Diaz stays stalking him with those jabs. Now Diaz is taunting him and he's got some confidence now. Corrbrey plays possum a little bit, but Diaz doesn't get bothered and he keeps coming. Now against the fence and Diaz looking for the takedown again. Corrbrey is showing some great takedown defense and Diaz lets go again. Diaz lands a nice left hook. Against the fence again and Diaz is looking for some knees. Diaz finally gets a spinning takedwon and gets side control. Only 10 seconds left in the round and Diaz can't capitalize, but that definitely secured him the round, if he didn't have it won already. I score it 10-9 Diaz.

Round 3: Now they touch gloves. Some earned respect perhaps. Diaz shoots and Corrbrey stuffs. More Nick Diaz-esque jabs and into another clinch against the fence. Diaz quickly win a takedown. Nicely done. He's in half guard and moves to side control methodically. Diaz looking for a Kimura from here. Corrbrey tries to get half guard again but can't get it. Diaz now spins and looks for the armbar. Corrbrey twists and tries to defend. It works and Diaz is now on top landing punches. Corrbrey is having a hard time defending the shots and eventually pulls Diaz down to side control. Diaz looks for the arm again and stands up and throws some more punches. He baits Corrbrey with another Kimura attempt and steals a full mount. Corrbrey has no where to go now and the fight gets stopped at 1:01 of round three. Very nice execution from Diaz and a good showing for Corrbrey as well. Best fight of the night so far.

Final result: Nick Diaz defeats Muhsin Corrbrey via TKO (strikes) round 3

-end-

Murilo "Ninja" Rua vs. Tony "The Gun" Bonello

Round 1: Bonello has some words for Ninja as he circles the cage when entering. Ninja laughs it off and heads to his corner. Bonello continues the jawing during the staredown. This could be good. Bell rings and Bonello comes right at Ninja with a high kick and some punches. Then he pulls guard. He has Ninja in his guard and Ninja works and passes to side control. He traps Bonello's arm and works some elbows. Bonello looks frustrated and Ninja stays with the elbows. Bonello has no answer, they've been in this position for over a minute now and Ninja finally moves to mount. He lands a few shots and decides to go back to side control. He's doing whatever he wants in this fight. He continues to land elbow after elbow. Now he has a knee on Bonello's stomach and he's raining down huge punches. Bonello is done at 1:44 of the first round. Ninja Rua in DOMINATING fashion. That was awesome to watch.
Final result: Murilo "Ninja" Rua defeats Tony "The Gun" Bonello via TKO (strikes) round 1

-end-

Dave "Pee Wee" Herman vs. Ron "H2O" Waterman

Round 1: Gloves touch. Immediate exchanges, nothing too serious though. Then Waterman shoots and gets the takedown. He pushes Pee Wee against the cage and looks for a can opener. Herman defended nicely and gets back to his feet. Waterman picks him right back up and gets another takedown, but Pee Wee rolls out and gets to his feet with some seperation. He lands a gorgeous kick right on Waterman's chops. Waterman looks dazed from it and grabs Pee Wee's leg as he moves in. Pee Wee goes to one knee and lands about a dozen or so elbos right to Waterman's dome. Waterman is in deep trouble and he gets mounted by Herman and the fight gets stopped at 2:41 of the first round. Herman has some serious skills. He's now 11-0 with 11 stoppages.

Final result: Dave "Pee Wee" Herman defeats Ron "H2O" Waterman via TKO (strikes) round 1

-end-

Rafael Feijao vs. Wayne Cole

Round 1: Fighters touch gloves and Feijao lands a nice body kick. Cole charges him with punches and they clinch. Feijao gets a nice takedown and after a few seconds they're back up. Feijao has Cole against the cage now on their feet. He's working sporadic knees mixed with some dirty boxing. Referee Yamasaki calls for a break. He gives Cole 5 minutes for a low blow. He takes his time and they come back out. Feijao goes for an immediate high kick than a Thai clinch with a knee. Cole muscles out and Feijao pushes him against the fence again. Fejao pushes out and lands a very nice combination. He stays on Cole and Cole looks for a single leg takedown, and Feijao lands a nice flying knee from there. Feijao gets out and goes right to the Thai clinch again where he lands some more knees that eventually put Cole on the mat. Feijao moves in for the kill, grabs his back and pounds him out at 2:12. Very impressive fight for Feijao.

Final result: Rafael Feijao defeats Wayne Cole via TKO (strikes) round 1

-end-

Ninja via submission
Yves Edwards via submission

Prediction:

I will not be watching this EliteXC event. Who wants some action on that? BOYCOTT EliteXC!

by the_mexicutioner on Jun 14, 2008 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

OK, I’ve read all the way down, now I’ll give an unbiased mma fan perspective!! Sorry, but that was a good show! Way better production and fights not to mention refereeing than the CBS garbage. Very hard to believe that it’s the same company. That said, the HW’s that fought…Kimbo would get murdered by both of them, an experienced waterman and that young kid would kill him! Diaz’s slow punches were affective, and I was impressed by the take down defense in his opponent! KJ noons did what I figured he would, and of course they are going to hype a rematch! Go back and watch it, KJ Noons dad is bad mouthing those “punks” long before anything is ever said. It was all hype, just watch Nick’s last fight in Japan and you would see the respect he has for the sport. Nate IS a young punk, but so was Nick 2-3 years ago! KJ is in for a long night when the rematch happens.
Hawaii fans for the most part were great, almost Japanese type quiet for most of the night, and not as bad as mainland US fans.
The best was not seeing Gary Shaw all night long swinging from Kimbo’s nuts! Overall, I was entertained, and even with the short fights, enjoyed the show.

All this said, obviously it’s the B leagues!
Most impressive was the guy trained by silva and Rua!
Lastly, I saw the hulk today, Rickson is huge!
HAPPY FATHERS DAY ALL, sorry I enjoyed the elite show!!

Dude I hope you didn’t have money on this card thats all I can say.

by halljam2 on Jun 15, 2008 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

No, I didnt bet on any of these fights!\

I dont gamble on EliteXC events…too unpredictable. THe refereeing is inconsistent, and Gary Shaw make the ref’s help out the favorites so I wont ever bet on EliteXc

by john on Jun 15, 2008 7:33 AM EDT up reply actions

comment mania??? i know it’s late but I’m on west coast, by the way, it’s stockton mentality one, don’t be ignorant, elite brought nick back to hype a rematch and lastly, KJ’s posse and dad were the violent ones. You guys need to watch with an open mind, and not with the hate! I agree elite is second tier, but it was a good show and I personally can’t wait for Diaz to beat Noons. Just like the kung le/shamrock rematch, you know Frank will hype that one as well. If you’re going to blame anyone, blame elite…they wanted the hype, but why do they allow parents, wives, girlfriends and cousins etc into the cage? what do you think will happen?

Kevin: Is that you, or is your son posting under your name?

lol what do you mean by that? mt son is 6!

by kevin on Jun 15, 2008 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions

U arent being negative today! I am surprised, thats all!

Kevin: If you havent watched the fights from DRERAM, U HAVE TO!! WOW! what a great night of action! You can find the fights on:

http://mixedmartialartvideos.com/

When you get the chance, watch them, you will really enjoy Aoki’s finish by gogo plata out of the mounted position (A move I have never seen).

Jacre is phenominal on the ground!

Manoeff brutally Ko’ed Sakuraba in under a minute

Alistar Overeem by brutal KO in under a minute

Overall it was a very solid event, check it out when you get the chance. What I love about Japanese mma is the 10 minute first round. You really get to see fighters ground game in a 10 minute round because since the round is long, they really dont stand fighters up often, which I love. Enjoy watching Jacre attempt a thousand submissions in the 1st round.

Let me know what you think!

by john on Jun 15, 2008 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Ninja looked amazing last night! His ground game is top notch and always has been. Once he gets a more diciplined stand up (he is too wild at times), he will be a force at middleweight.

I was very impressed by Ninja’s performance.

I would like to see Cung Le vs. Ninja

by john on Jun 15, 2008 9:02 AM EDT up reply actions

There are some good fighters on the card. Regardless of what we feel about the ref’s or owners, watching it for the fighters is what it’s all about anyways right?

If you are easily entertained by mediocre fight cards that headline less than Busch League talent (all except for Diaz), I guess Elite XC is for you. You can have it.

Ron Waterman is still fighting? EliteXC needs to sign some HW talent bad. That division is starved. It’s not starving as bad as the LHW division though. Wayne Cole shouldnt be anywhere near the top of anyones LHW division.

Could be a better show than the CBS one though. Always great to see Yves Edwards fight.

Ok old man, whatever you say. And for your information, I saw UFC I on its original broadcast when I was 18. You probably thing Kimbo is great for MMA too, huh? Guys like you just see the letters MMA and figure a promotion is legit. You’re about as lame as EliteXC.

Wow! Rua definitely made that guy regret his words! Props!

by Can't wait on Jun 14, 2008 10:53 PM EDT reply actions

Rua sucks! Ninja has never beaten an A class fighter and he never will. Sure Bonello was 16-0, but he has never fought anyone either. Keep riding you brothers coat tales Ninja. Another great match up by Elite XC. What a joke. Glad Im not watching it.

I just lost all respect for the Diaz brothers. I know they are street kids and all that but if EliteXC is bad for MMA, they are no better for that come in the cage scuffle.

by halljam2 on Jun 14, 2008 11:49 PM EDT reply actions

you should re-watch the footage. what did they do wrong? come to the cage after a fight to hype a fight? is that something that has never happened before? oh, because they were involved in that scuffle? nope, watch it again, only noons’ people get physical, hieron throwing a punch at diaz and kj’s dad attacking diaz. okay, I’ll give you that they were a little childish when they left, but that’s it, they did nothing else wrong. they probably could have waited until later to hype a rematch, but it’s not like an after fight confrontation has never happened before.

by JJ on Jun 15, 2008 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions

If you are Gary Shaw, you know how hated the Diaz brothers are to fighters and how they act. Had they waited to hype the fight it would have been one less black eye for the organization.

One debacle was enough for me. This thing is just too unprofessionally managed. Long live the UFC!!!

by Ray on Jun 15, 2008 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions

That’s how it was after Robbie Lawler KO’d Falaniko Vitale at an ICON show a few years back. Vitale’s sister ran in to the ring and tried to punch Robbie. It’s very unfortunate that these incidents cast a shadow over MMA. I’m not into the “bashing” of other MMA organizations, but Elite XC blew it. That’s something you would never see happen in the UFC/WEC.

this organization is just embaressing for the sport. form the wwe announcer, to the parents fighting, to the dancers, to the fucking pathetic stoppages. EVERY elitexc fight ive seen has had a horrible stoppage and i think its beginning to get worse in the ufc as well, and u have to think they r related. personally i think it should be tap or sleep. there shouldnt be a positioning stoppage in my opinion, and we r seeing those more and more. just because a guy is mounted doesnt mean hes hurt. but back to the point, elitexc is pathetic and i CANNOT wait till we hear what dana says about this.

Mexicutioner, maybe I am thinking too rationally right now but here it goes. Earlier I read the BOYCOTT EliteXC posts and I thought there are vets in MMA in that organization that have given their time like Yves, Nick Diaz, Scott Smith, Robbie Lawler, etc. After tonight though I am with you. The stoppages on that show I am OK with but the end of the show stuff was hideous old school WWF style.

by halljam2 on Jun 15, 2008 12:05 AM EDT reply actions

Wow, cant believe the WWE contrived fight at the end.

EliteXC is going the opposite route of most MMA promotions. All MMA promotions target the WWE audience. The difference is that EliteXC modifies their show to make it more WWE like. Yikes.

I watched it…it was a very average event with WWF dramatics at the end. I wouldn’t waste your money buying showtime for anyone to see that display of average MMA. Buy them tickets to an amateur show.

by halljam2 on Jun 15, 2008 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions

I really wonder how long it will be until it is really just the UFC and WEC on the main stage. EliteXC is only a matter of time before they crumble. IFL is crumbling.

by halljam2 on Jun 15, 2008 12:23 AM EDT reply actions

The fights were great in my opinion. I just think the administration needs to strike down and heavily fine those supposedly professional fighters that want to behave like jackasses. Yes, I think that after tonight’s event Elite XC is going to be facing a tsunami of criticisms. Showtime’s image is been ghettonize.

by Jacob on Jun 15, 2008 12:34 AM EDT reply actions

I thought tonights fights we’re great all 5 of them we’re exciting until they ended in an exciting fashion.
I think/feel guys like Herman and Feijao are good, very good and I would not be disapointed if they ended up in the UFC.
Yes the diazs crap at the end is definetly a reminder of wwf/wwe but lets not condemn all participants of this event for the actions of one man, right.
Noons-good
feijao-good
herman-good
rua-good
elite xc maybe not good but they have some good fighters for sure.

by Jesse_Canadian_MMA on Jun 15, 2008 12:39 AM EDT reply actions

Wayne Cole was just overwhelmed..

Pee Wee Herman looked pretty good. He needs to find a real camp and get serious about training. If he does, look out. Put him up against Kimbo next and Kimbo will need reconstructive surgery..That would be some white on black crime.

How the hell is Tony Boello a BJJ black belt?? He doesn’t even know how to make an attempt to get out of side control. I haven’t seen the knee on stomach control like that since I’ve been watching MMA. I think someone over exaggerated their credentials.

Correbrey looked good in the last 1:15 of the first round. He stunk the rest of the fight with the exception of 3 or 4 strikes.

Yves vs. KJ – Wow! What a shocker. Didn’t expect a veteran like Edwards to get socked so quick.

KJ and entourage vs. Diaz and entourage – Bad for MMA; The Diaz brothers are just trouble no matter where they end up. Nick ran himself out of the UFC and I’m sure its only a matter of time before Nate does the same.

the_mexicutioner!!!!!!!

I’m not dissing you for hating on Elite XC. However their are some good fighters in that organization (Diaz, Lawler, Shields. I’m in no way a Kimbo fan, and I am sick of these Elite XC shows because it reminds me of when I used to watch WCW Monday Nitro as a kid. I watch Elite XC for the fighters that I’ve mentioned above. Sorry if I came off sounding like a hater, but I do think its only a matter of time before Elite XC goes down.

haha im extremely happy to say i dont watch elite xc or anything related to it in any shape or form. just like i dont watch minor league football but i watch NFL all the time, same thing.

Rua looked pretty damn good in this one. I’m not banning EliteXC anytime soon. As a true fan of the sport, I’ll watch UFC, EliteXC, Dream, Affliction and even the local shows put on by the BJJ and MMA schools in my area.

Guys like Noons, Rua, Diaz, Lawler, Jake Shields and other XC guys are very skilled…and watching skilled MMA in any league is what its all about.

I read every post so far. it seems as self reguarding individuals, everyone has his own opinoin. I say any discusion is good discusion. Stop hating the delivery and start appriciating something that scares so many people who never wanted to explain the truth. We now have to question the thought. Get real, the reason elite xc opened the wwe door, is that door has proven its ability to get in your kids toy boxes. Love mma for why it is so loveable, a fighters heart. Do not disrespect the fighter for the promoters flaw. Capitalism sums up the disgruntled and the arbitrary.

Disrespectful things happen all the time in every sport and organization.

What was more disrespectful, this diaz/noons confrontation or what happened after the guillard/clementi fight? How many boycotted the UFC after that? How many boycotted the UFC after Tito’s altercation with Ken Shamrock back in UFC twenty something?

Boycotting an organization is laughable. It really is. Don’t take it so personally. It’s a sport where each fighter has their own personality and they may not act like you want them to.

If you want everyone to be respectful, maybe it’s good you boycott all of MMA and focus on golf or something…

Thanks rhv, I agree 100%. Haven’t seem the scuffle yet (I’m watching the fights online and they don’t show the scuffle), but this is not the first time this type of stuff has happened. You guys sound like EliteXC did that on purpose, and you are not faulting the fighters for doing this (come on ppl, it’s nick and nate diaz, what do you expect from these two hot tempered ppl?). This happened in Pride, it happened in boxing, it happened in basketball, in soccer, in pretty much any sport known, and even though the UFC hasn’t had an all out fight between camps, it might happen one day. The organization does not have power over what each athlete does inside the ring, they can only control once an altercation has started. Don’t be so quick to fault an organization because its fighters chose to cross the line. Can someone tell me if EliteXC tried to break the fight? That should tell us if it was all act or the fighters’ fault.

Ok, long time reader, first time poster. Definitely love the site, and most definitely love MMA.

Now, I will probably get alot of flack for what am about to say, but I know alot of people are thinking it and might not be saying it, and others are saying it and others are bashing them for it. But seriously you all. Elite XC is pretty much garbage. Except for a very very very few fighters they have, the others are not all what they are cracked up to be. The fights almost appear to be staged at times and the fights themselves are like an almost nobody fighting a total nobody. Plus the antics that are seeming to happen after every card now is not the fighters doing this. This is the man who runs it doing this, he knew it was going to end up being like this by bringing in the Diaz brothers after the fight. I mean, from Noons perspective I would be kind of pissed at the promoter for this. He should have had time to have his minute to shine but instead they let the Diaz brothers in to cause a possible altercation that would hopefully save the card. This is a joke people. Seriously.

The fighters… well lets just say, I really didnt see anyone that could possibly compete with other fighters from others organizations. With possibly the exception of Rua, and Feijao. But personally I dont think that Rua would dominte any fighter in any other organization like he did tonight. Really wasnt worth watching. Sure the fighter he faced had great JJ credentials but he has never really foght anyone, NEVER on television at all. JOKE. Feijao I was impresssed by. But he is trained by a UFC true fighter, lol. Noons, I am still trying to see how he gets his ass kicked by a thug with a one hit wonder and they can rally behind him like he is great as hell now. Diaz, fight was a joke, they looked like they were in more of a slapping match at first and honestly, the guy he was fighting was a joke, pure counter striker and not even a good one, and he had problems with that guy at first. Herman, was alright, but seriously a man who doesnt take MMA seriously wouldnt make it anywhere but in Elite XC. Enough said.

I could go on and on about how early the stoppages always are in Elite and how bullshit Kimbo is but this is by far way to long already so I am going to go ahead and end this, probably will get anough flack just from this. But personally I am with some of the posters here and ALL of my friends, boycott this WWE want to be and watch a real organization like UFC or WEC or if you are real lucky DREAM….. Anthony

PS, only realy bright spot of Elite XC is Gina Carana ( I think that is how you spell it). Looks good and can give out a whooping. Kind of sucks when the only good thing a MMA organization has going for it is a female in a sport that just came to light.. :/
