UFC Fight Night 15 headed for Omaha Nebraska

ufc fight night 14 omaha
Brace yourselves, Cornhuskers, because the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to invade Nebraska for the first time ever in just a few months.

That's right, the mixed martial arts promotion is in the process of putting together a show -- UFC Fight Night 15 -- that will be held at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha on Wednesday, September 17. MMAmania.com confirmed the venue and location earlier this afternoon with multiple sources.

The Omaha Civic Auditorium can hold about 10,000 fans. It's home the Omaha Beef -- an indoor football team -- and the Creighton University women's basketball and volleyball teams.

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 winner, Nate Diaz, has already agreed to fight Josh Neer in a lightweight bout on the Spike TV main card. And local product Houston Alexander is set to get in on the action against Eric Schafer in a 205-pound affair.

Why in the world would Houston take a fight agaisn’t Schafer? Could this be his last fight in the UFC for a while?

Because he came so close against Thiago Silva that he figured, “why not add another L to my record.”

So far, I am not too happy witrh this event.

Nate Diaz beats Batman and the best fight Nate’s management gets him is Josh Neer? WTF? I understand that TYson is ducking him, but Nate deserve’s a better opponent. Nate Diaz is turning into the “King of UFN”

As for Houston, he needs a win bADLY! I will feel bad for him if he cant get a win in his home town against Raveshing Red! Houston should spend his entire day working on takedown defense! Chuck, help this guy out!

I’m nopt even gonna sit here and argue with [those] who think griffin will KO shogun.

For all u new fans who think griffin is a god, u will find out tomorrow night what a top 3 pound for pound fighter in the world (not just UFC, but the WORLD) will look like. Griffin has very little KO power. With that being said we cant even give Griffin a punchers chance. Griffin will be soooooo outclassed that it wont even be funny.

For those who think stephan Bonner messed Forrest’s face up, wait till you c what Shogun does to him.

My advice: RUN Forrest RUN!!!!

Say if Nate wins against Neer which he most likely will it’ll set up a fight against Tyson (if he gets by Aurelio) december sometime, possibly a no#1 contender fight, and then the winner can fight for the title in may. They are gonna meet eventually, they’ve both racked up a few wins and by the time they meet there will most certainly be title implications.

i think he’s from nebraska as well, maybe just wanted to take a fight in his hometown?

by funkmunkee on Jun 12, 2008 5:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Does it matter who Houston takes on? He already stated he’s here to fight anyone, I would expect any fighter to take on any opponent.

Houston needs a win bad, or his days with the company are numbered.

The BIG NEWS is probably a deal with HBO he has not dropped that rumor yet plus this article: http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content2829.html

Go to fiveouncesofpain.com, they have another rumor that looks a little more solid. I keep trying to post a link but mania keeps blocking it.

It looks like the news has to do with MMA being legalized in New York.

Has everyone found out Houston’s weapons? does he really stand a chance anymore? The answer is he needs to learn from Chuck and play it smart from now on and maybe not loose anymore.

by chipdog on Jun 11, 2008 3:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

it is to bad that Tyson Griffin is ducking Nate Diaz. that is a fight i would much rather see. no disrespect to the Dentist but Nate is almost in the top 5. while Neer is still new to the div.i would like to see the dentist get a rematch against Joe Daddy S.

Houston will bounce back. This is a fight that is in front of his hometown and he will be prepared. I followed Houston as he trained for his last fight in Colorado and he is no joke. I believe his last two fights have come from mental distraction over everything else. His trainer Mick will have him back on track.

Some of the action from his training days:

Oh! First you say he’ll KO Swick. But since he lost he’s a bottle rocket? Your an a$$

Houston will bounce back, this is a big fight for him and it’s in front of his hometown. The last two fights have come from lack of mental focus more than anything. His trainer, Mick, will have him back on track and I look for him to return to what he showed in his first two fights. This is do or die time for him in the UFC.

I followed him during his training for his last fight in Colorado and he is no joke. Check out some of the photos and video at: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/alexander_roberts_training.htm

That was SICK!! I had to back it up to make sure I saw that right. Can’t wait for the documentary, should be sweet.

by Haze on Jun 11, 2008 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know!! And I think he’s going to do a DOC for each belt he goes after, this one should cover from the Hughes defeat-Sean with a lot of old school stuff dating back to his first attempts at the LTWT belt. The next will be the best probably, NOW-GSP!!!+All the previous WLWT belt stuff, Hughes1, leaving the UFC, coming back, GSP1, Hughes2 . . . Yall know i cant wait LoL!!!

Finally!!!! I’m so glad they are having a UFC event in Omaha.

by Chainlink on Jun 11, 2008 4:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I second that…too bad I just moved from the Omaha area last fall after living there for six years…oh,well, I hope the huskers enjoy the fights!

by Eric on Jun 11, 2008 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like both Schafer and Houston, typical striker vs grappler…Houston needs to work on his wrestling defense if he wants to win…Neer vs diaz should be a good fight, dont sleep on Neer…..Finally an event in driving distance, but when are they coming to KC?? They would put up big numbers here i think.

by mma dude on Jun 11, 2008 4:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

KC would be a good idea. If this event goes well and it sells out easy (which I think it will), I could see UFC doing a regular pay-per-view fight in Omaha at the Qwest Arena, which holds somewhere in the 18,000 area and is a newer, nicer facility.

by Eric on Jun 11, 2008 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I live in OK and I doubt they will ever have a UFC event here, so I will probably buy tickets to the fight night and would definitley buy tickets to a ppv card in Neb., and would also go to KC for an event as well. I was freakin stoked when the affliction card first announced it would be in Dallas, then they moved it. Sucks

by James S on Jun 11, 2008 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

this dont have nothing to do with the above but the ppv shit has to stop put that shit on tv. talking about the forest title fight coming up i’m going bellie up on the ufc because of all the ppv thank god for wec.

Wasn’t the last Ultimate Fight Night on Spike TV before the Ultimate Fighter Premiere?

by Isaac Hinds on Jun 11, 2008 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I heard about this on a local radio show about a week ago. Can’t wait! This will be my first live UFC event, I’m pumped that I’ll get to see Nate Diaz and hometomwn boy Houston. I wonder what the main event will be…

by MwM on Jun 11, 2008 4:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

FINALLY I GET TO SEE AN EVENT LIVE!

by VNDK8 on Jun 11, 2008 5:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

eh I hope this sells out. I know Houston Alexander will get a huge pop and will be on the main card more than likely.

Right now its a weak card, but here soon, I hope they get a headliner in it to go along with the awesome match-up that is Josh Neer vs. Nate Diaz… It seems like I am the only one who is very excited about that.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 11, 2008 6:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

houston by ko 1st round. diaz by triangle 1st round. i wanna see a three round war for this event.

by itsT.O.baby!!! on Jun 11, 2008 6:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

um Neer will not get caught in a Triangle in round 1. That will be the 3 round war that will have people talking for a while. I think this is possibly the best match-up when it comes to fighting and excitement that there is on any card.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 11, 2008 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i will put money on neer beating diaz! it will got all 3 rounds. neer by decision. puttin an ass whoopin on diaz just like he did din thomas and joe stevenson!

by Justin on Jun 11, 2008 6:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Diaz vs Neer, Guida/Danzig alone are going to be great fights. I say Diaz by sub, and Danzig by dec. The other 2 fights are at the very least going to be exciting and wont go the distance. So no complaints here. And I too, wish to see Tyson vs Nate. WTF!!! make it happen.

the UFC needs to go to AMERICA’S GOT TALENT next week! I’m so tired of singers and impersonators. Maybe Kimbo Slice will have some better luck there.

MSG December show.

Big news.

For those of you kissing Alves’ butt for kicking Hughes’ butt and saying that the 4 pounds have nothing to do with it: then let’s see Alves move up to 185. If he’s such a great fighter and the weight doesn’t matter then let’s see it. I think it would be hilarious for the UFC to punish Alves by giving him a title shot… at Anderson Silva at 185. Alves, you want a title shot? Okay, here it is… vs. Spider. Good luck.
By the way, I’m not saying Alves wouldn’t have still beaten Hughes without the 4 pounds. But he is a monster at 170, bigger than Davis, and no longer belongs there in my opinion. I don’t ever see him making weight again at 170.

I talked to clay and yes he is fighting at fight night 14 dont listen to everything the internet tells you

by Rylo on Jun 11, 2008 10:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nate Diaz doesn’t care who he fights he is going to step up to fight, anyone they bring him. If he beats Neer than Tyson Griffin doesn’t have an excuse to keep ducking Nate cause both have fought top fighters in the 155 division. Tyson Griffin can’t say he is higher in the ranks cause he hasn’t finish no one in his fights in the UFC.

Mania, any idea when tickets will go on sale? Has anyone been to a Fight Night event so I can start saving my pennies for front row seats?
