Kimbo Slice next fight against Brett Rogers in October possible

Elite XC heavyweight Brett Rogers hijacked the spotlight in the wake of "Primetime" on CBS "Saturday Night Fights" last weekend, calling out Kimbo Slice for his lackluster performance against James Thompson in the main event of the evening.
Rogers -- who knocked out "The Colossus" in the first round at Elite XC: "Street Certified" earlier this year -- made a point to needle Slice in the post-fight press conference, which nearly led to an altercation on the podium.
"Da Grim" has kept a steady drumbeat of criticism rolling throughout the week, saying that Slice should either "step up or step aside." Slice has remained silent for most of the public relations attack ... until now.
While nothing is official, Slice has accepted Rogers' challenge, telling Dan LeBatard on ESPN.com radio that the fight is on -- perhaps sometime in October.
Here's a snip from Kimbo:
"Considering Brett Rogers is as ignorant as he is, he's probably looking at it like Kimbo Slice can be a meal ticket. Instead of making the fight at more of a business tip, this is going to be personal. This shit is personal now. If he wants to call me out, considering he's going to get big money to fight me, then you know, from a business point of view, whoever was in his ear, they did their part, and now they got the fight."
Short of calling out Kimbo's mother, Rogers did and said just about everything he could to make this fight happen.
And apparently it worked, even though Elite XC Live Events President Gary Shaw indicated immediately following the fight that it wasn't going to happen anytime soon.
If it is indeed accurate -- and Rogers and Slice didn't just set this up themselves in the media -- it could start a trend. If it's as easy as posting a challenge up on a Web site and saying some harsh words at a press conference, then Kimbo might have a line out the door after his next fight.
If he wins, of course.
Stylistically this is a fight Kimbo should want. Sure, Rogers is the bigger fighter and Kimbo just had a tough time with Thompson's size, but Rogers is a different fighter than Thompson. He wants to stand and trade with his opponents, which is Kimbo's bread and butter.
Be careful what you wish for, Mr. Rogers.
The knocks on Kimbo have been his inexperience and ground game. Nobody has ever questioned his stand up, and now Brett Rogers will most likely look to prove Kimbo is all hype by beating him at his own game.
We've all begged to see Kimbo's ground game get tested. Perhaps now we're finally going to see his stand up get tested. Add in some animosity from Kimbo's side and we got ourselves a heck of a fight to look forward to this fall.
Kimbo mentioned the fight would probably take place in October, which may or may not be the next event on CBS. Either way, is this a fight anyone is going to want to miss? I think not.
Here's what Kimbo had to say when asked directly from Letard if he was fighting Rogers next:
"Yeah, hell yeah, I got to fight him man. This man just called me out."
Aright Brett, you got want you wanted. Now lets see if you can back those words up with a win. Stay tuned, October is a long way away -- this will certainly get a lot more interesting before then.

props to Kevin who reported this 2 hours ago..lol just kidding
anyways, standing (even though rogers is undefeated) I think he’s in trouble. He better use that wrestling experience that he has. If it goes to the ground, it’s over…that is unless Grim gets a “lose bonus.” Gary Shaw had stated Grim won’t fight Kimbo, don’t be surprised with yet another controversial Kimbo victory!

by the way, lebatard is a fucking moron! He actually thought the elite show was great!

Whats up with the having to tell us everytime you found info before MANIA did dude, start your own site and report all this stuff first then . . . He probably waits to make sure the info is true, not just report it right off the bat, plus he has to do a write up on the subject so 2 hours seems about right!

Everyone on here knows my post are golden, just ask dude, do a survey LoL, id even go as far as to say ive got fans . . . All you do is complain or correct someone in a rude manner. You are a generous guy. I NEVER gave mainstream sports guys any credibility when it came to MMA.
Especially anyone associated with ESPN.
They tend to be frontrunners when it comes to sports popularity. And MMA is gaining big momentum.
Kevin-
Kimbo will win. Guaranteed.

i agree style wise roger fits just what kimbo wants, a stand up fight, i don’t see roger trying to take kimbo down. roger is bigger and might have more power but dosn’t have the sharpest boxing skills.it may come down to who lands first.
by roy on Jun 6, 2008 3:14 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
IMO Kimbo’s chin hasnt been tested. Roger has shown hes got a bit of KO power. Should be a good one though.

does anyone else agree that Fedor/Timmy in a ring is a huge disadvantage to Tim and even a bigger advantage to fedor. Same thing if Fedor/Randy happens. Tim and Randy both like to press their oppoonents against the cage a dirty box. Also are elbows going to be allowed on the ground?

I dont think brett should be worried with the stand up game because who has kimbo tko’d. Bo who was tapping on his way down, Tank who really didnt stand a chance was out of shape and just old wasnt really a challenge and he tko’d a guy who was still standing on his feet in thompson. hmmm
i think brett can take those shots and prolly land better shots on kimbo but if brett gets rocked i think he could take kimbo down and pound him out there.
by Tony Dollar on Jun 6, 2008 3:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree, and I said it in another post that IMO Kimbo’s chin hasnt been tested.
by JV on Jun 6, 2008 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kimbo’s chin hasn;t been tested? Did you even look at any photos from the abbott or thompson fight? both guys hit kimbo with hard punches. Tank also said after his match that he hit kimbo with some of his hardest punches and it didn;t even effect him. Also what about the time in his street fight when Kimbo dropped his guard and said “hit me”. Big D hit kimbo twice in the face for free and kimbo stood there and said “is that all you got? Ni**a it’s over”. Now i understand that Big D is just a guy on the streets, but he was still a huge guy and can probably hit at hard as rogers.

Shaw will make sure Kimbo wins again. And then he’ll beat his next opponent. And then maybe when they all think he’s ready, they’ll give him an actual opponent like Antonio Silva. But that’s at least a year away if you ask me.

kimbos last fight was b.s didnt thompson get kod by the grimm the kimbo will to didnt he get kod by sean gannon
by shawnizzle on Jun 6, 2008 4:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
this is really a jumbled comment, but I’ll try to answer. No gannon choked Kimbo, after kimbo shot for a take down, and after his cronies broke the fight up like 6 times. Kimbo is a joke. He fought guys that were out of shape bouncers at your local bar. He couldn’t ko thompson, who has been ko’d by everyone!
by kevin on Jun 6, 2008 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The best way to make money off Kimbo is to line up the gimmick fights:
Kimbo vs. Butterbean
Kimbo vs. Cabbage
Kimbo vs. Sapp
Kimbo vs. Hong Man Choi
by Pat on Jun 6, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
cabbage would and hong man would kill him they should not be on your list, maybe he could beat butterbean if it was a mma bout but not boxing and sapp would be a toss up.

Anyone of those guys are a big threat to Kimbo.
by JV on Jun 6, 2008 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Shame on you kevin, “styles make fights”. Thompson was setting up the take down the whole match. Which I agree Kimbo may suck on the ground, Rogers will stand and trade with Kimbo. Anyone who stands with Kimbo has a chance of getting knocked out.

Nokimono: It works both ways though, has Kimbo really fought a legit striker?

Why not question Kimbo’s standup?
His punches are wild, his knees are sloppy, he can’t kick, he doesn’t use elbows, his dirty boxing sucks….
AND…
Who the hell has he KO’d? Tank? HAHAHA!

OCTOBER?! geez i don’t wanna wait that long, Kimbo’s gettin older and probably will get KO cuz he’s too slow to dodge Rodger’s punches.
by Ro on Jun 6, 2008 6:14 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
wow i cant believe everyone so far is counting kimbo out. stand up is his strong point and i happen to think that there are few in mma who could outbox him. i know he’s never really been tested but from what ive seen he is a very precise and powerful puncher. he just needs some serious take-down defence. i say kimbo wins and we all know its not going to the ground or out of the first round.
by Nokimono on Jun 6, 2008 7:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Let me come up with a logical explanation to your post……….
HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHA
by Dom on Jun 6, 2008 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Kimbo would win. Unlike most, I think he really does take the fight game somewhat seriously. His cardio sucked, but he had never gone past a couple minutes in an MMA fight before. I also think he has to much pride to put up two poor performances is a row. His next fight i think he will show much improvement. No matter, I am not convinced that the fight will happen anytime soon anyway.
-I asked this on another thread, but no one answered. Does anyone know what Joe “Deisal” Riggs is doing these days.
by efisher on Jun 6, 2008 8:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
After Riggs lost to Diego Sanchez, he was let go from the UFC. He’s doing smaller shows now.
I saw him at a live show in the Seattle area, Strikeforce at the Tacoma Dome. He was on the card along with Bob Sapp (who’s from Seattle).
Joe fought Corey De Vela and was body slammed hard to the ground where the ref stopped the fight as Riggs tapped. After the fight, it was disclosed he was fighting with a previous back injury.
by TabascoSAUCE on Jun 6, 2008 10:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kimbo needs to work on EVERY aspect of the game for this fight. Anything that rogers tries, he has more experience in. Surprise us with insane cardio Kimbo. Practice stuffing take downs and hit him with the jab and dodge his punches till he tires out, then go for the KO!
by RyanHobbs on Jun 6, 2008 8:30 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs

Rogers hits harder and probably has better technique than Kimbo. I’d definitely expect Rogers to win by early KO.
by Thonolan on Jun 7, 2008 1:22 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
KIMBO will never be a great fighter, he can only win in States that do not test for steroids, Kimbo could not juice Kimbo could not fight he is a fake. He will never fight in Vegas. Look at how yellow Kimbos eye ball were he was detoxing at the last fight in NJ.
by Evil Dave on Jun 7, 2008 4:30 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I would definitely pay to see this fight and that says a lot i dont have much money. But Kimbo is sloppy and Roger is very precise. I think President Gary Shaw is afraid to lose kimbos win streak so soon he wants to milk the publicity that he gets from Kimbo brings to elite xc. There are tons of people who didbt even watch mma until kimbo stepped into the octagon. I think they will give him another fight past his prime such Tank or Thompson before the risk his flawless record and the publicity the street fight brings. Don’t forget this is a business. Sell out one fight with Rogers or a dozen leading up. Do the math.
