Remember when Steve Nash had a busted nose during the playoffs last year in like game 1 with the Spurs? They couldn’t stop the bleeding. That was REAL blood. I’ll bet plenty of parents turned their TV’s off because of all of that HORRIBLE and REAL blood. Basketball is just ruining our culture! Gimme a break.

Chuck Liddell is headlining the September event in atlanta Georgia
Wandy might fight Rashad (not sure how credible this is)
Kimbo vs. Grim likely for October
Filho vs. Sonnen: September 10
Scott Smith did not break his foot
Affliction’s next show will be in either October or Novembver and its 3rd show will be in FDebuary. New top talent is already being signed for the next shows. VP of Affliction vowed that each show will be better than the last

Wandy vs Rashad? Even though I was one of the people complaining when Liddell was fighting him, because it would have giving Liddell an instant title shot, I’m more than happy to see Wandy fight Rashad lol. Title shot or not after beating his ass, I just wanna see Wandy tear through someone again. I got chills when he killed Jardine lol.

If its true, I will be happy. Wanderlei will destroy Rashad, and hopefully he will get the next crack at Rampage.
by john on Jun 6, 2008 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
vandy Rashad isn’t even a fight. I’d rather see vandy rampage or even vand and anderson silva, chuck 2, machida or even hendo, but rashad. Is it me or is he over hyped? Keep him as “the gate keeper,” vand has been through the gate for years!
by kevin on Jun 6, 2008 11:21 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah Kev, but it would be great to see Rashad get smashed. Also, if beating Rashad will get him a shot at Rampage, then I am all for it.
Keep in mind I am not sure how credible this info was.
Still, its nice to speculate.

Older generations tend to denigrate anything the younger generations follow/practice (pop culture, music, sports, etc.)
Shows like this only produce certain episodes in order to carry out a political agenda.
These people are out of touch and have no interest in examining the facts of the sport of MMA.

That is not fair. Obviously they have done their research. Didn’t you hear her say “One of the reviewer’s I read said this sport is basically boxing with more opportunity to inflict brain damage” and " This is,from what I have seen, and what I have read, very bloody"? I mean she read and stated another person’s opinion, what more do you want from her?

At first I was furious about this! How, as a “responsible” journalist, do you ONLY HAVE ONE SIDE OF THE TOPIC REPRESENTED!! He had 3 uneducated people discussing something, and trying to sway opinion on, the worlds fasted growing sport! Then I stopped to think about what was actually happening.
O’reilly said it best “it’s all about the ratings.” He is a very intelligent man at the end of his career. He is blatantly using MMA to boost his ratings!! He knew by the ratings that CBS had Saturday night, if he bashed the sport he would get emails and calls and blogs all with his name attached, thus improving his stock.
I just hope most people can see through his attempts at salvaging his career.

Funny that the far right Fox would be against MMA and not for public executions. The far right WABC talk radio in NYC ran the full audio of the Daniel Pearl beheading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was a public execution.

That is the bigest pile of sh*t I have ever seen. Fair and balanced my ass, instead of having three people with the same ignorant view point, how about having someone on that is educated about the sport and could defend it. That way it could be a debate, not three elderly reporters bashing a sport they know absolutly nothing about.

seriously. They are right about our society being dumbed down but contact sports play a very small role in that. All the celebrity gossip, magazines, reality shows, and the E! network are responsible for that. Also, Orielly and other shows like Nancy Grace which come off as political and proffesional shows focus on b.s. like how people are trying to destroy christmas and barak not wearing a flag pin. My grandparents watch fox news and other biased right wing media and have a very limited and skewed understanding of what is really going on in the middle east and domesticly. They also are racist.

Contact sports dumbing down our society? Oh, for f*ck’s sake, is that a laugh! Try MTV, any and all reality shows, societal problems from previous generations’ screw ups. Oh wait, how about biased and false reporting of the news. Giving the masses ( re: sheep) incorrect info might be a little worse. I think it should be a actual crime with jail time to knowingly state or print falsehoods if one is a “media journalist.”

Elite xc made it look like a spectacle and this is what they got. I’m sure if it was well produced we would still be have the same discussion but at least we as true MMA fans would have more of a defense. With that being said they are way off, they know they’re way off. There only putting it out there for ratings. The women in this piece quoted a review where the person said MMA is just boxing with more ways to inflict brain damage. This not only isn’t true but just the opposite. It’s been proven that repeated punches to the head with boxing gloves causes more trauma to the brain than getting punched with MMA gloves. The only thing in MMA that could cause long term brain damage is if you took repeated slams to the back of the head (ala Hughes vs. Newton or some of Rampages slams in Pride)and this doesn’t happen that frequently. So in conclusion once again the main stream media got it wrong. Hopefully this big announcement from Dana is a network deal so we (MMA) can redeem our selves.
by Jigga4713 on Jun 6, 2008 9:19 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
what “more” of a defense would you have if it was the UFC on CBS? ppl like bill don’t care about which one is better, he considers all of MMA to be trash. Dana and Franklin were already on his program, and he used clips from the UFC to make it look violent. Again, doesn’t matter what promotion is on, they hate them all.

I can’t go a day without hearing mma get bashed by somebody in the media. even the people who defend it are supporting it in a derogatory way. Hugh Dougles, former NFL player, spent 5 hours on philly radio “priasing” the “savagery” of mma. he said there is no skill in it but that is exciting watching guys just punch and kick each other. The guy he worked with said it is entertainment for the poor and uneducated. The greatest revenge is watching mma grow. It’s eating them alive and I enjoy watching that.

This is more violent than pro wrestling because that is “fake”? What a bunch of uneducated morons. Do they even realize how many more devastating injuries have occured in recent years to pro wrestlers? You know what the most dangerous sport going right now is? Cheerleading. Of course cheerleaders are wholesome and fun, and make these guys feel funny in their pants, so they’ll never show the same knd of outrage towards it. But fighters aren’t cute, and don’t give them the same funny feeling, so they must be brutes not fit for society.
I also like how the “fair and balanced” network didn’t have a single advocate for the sport, meaning they didn’t try to get one, or the ones they contacted knew they would just get ganged up on, shut down, and cut off, so they didn’t bother. These are just a bunch of people that couldn’t make it as real journalist and so they join up in this sensationalized crap because they know it will draw viewers, how ironic. And MMA means we’ve become the Roman Empire? Really? The cause of the fall of that Empire was not caused by the Coliseum, read some history people.

I challenge Bill O Reilly to hop down off his high horse and follow the life of a fighter for six weeks leading up to a fight. It’s easy to sit behind a desk and spit out biased garbage, O Reilly doesn’t consider MMArtists athletes because he has no clue what type of training and fortitude it involves. This is irresponsible journalism, because it’s backed by nothing but the opinions of 50 and 60 somethings who are so afraid of change that they’re minds could never fathom being open to something like this. And btw lady on the right, step into a boxing ring and get pummeled to the dome for twelve rounds, then tell me how much more brain damage you believe is inflicted than that of a sport that if you go down and are hurt, the ref saves your ass, there are no 8 counts in MMA, you don’t get an extended chance to get your noggin beat in, once your lights are out, the fight is over.

I thought to be a reporter you needed facts to support your story. When someone dies? What about Doug Dedge or Sam Vasquez. Both died from injuries sustained in MMA fights, but even though these facts support O’reilly and company, they didn’t even take the time to find out. More brain damage than boxing? Any educated fan knows that there is significantly higher risk of brain damage in boxing.
These old ignorant relics need to shut thier pie-holes. We’re not all into the sport because of “bloodlust,” we enjoy the sport. Someone needs to put old Bill in a Kimura and teach him a lesson. I wonder if thier tune will change when MMA is on every major network.

Since when has any mixed martial artist in the US died in competition? I think there was one last year in a sanctioned bout. Another guy died in the Ukraine 10 years ago in a non-sanctioned fight.
Boxers die far more than MMA’rs do because they take repeated strikes to the head. Their gloves allow them to punch harder as well. MMA gloves just don’t protect the hands like boxing gloves so the strikes will be a bit softer.
The refs and the doctors in MMA are a lot better at stopping fights as well.
They obviously had no news to report that night so they threw up this BS story.
