Dante Rivera vs Matthew Riddle Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale fight slated

TUF 7 Dante Rivera vs. Matthew Riddle

Dante Rivera and Matthew Riddle will clash at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 Finale at The Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET on SpikeTV, according to MMAWeekly.com.

Both contestants are currently competing as middleweights on this season of the show; however, both have been eliminated from the 16-man tournament-style format.

Rivera defeated John Wood via submission (kimura) to earn a spot in the fighter house during the debut episode. He then went on to outpoint Brandon Sene in a three-round "sudden victory" match, propelling him into the next round.

In his next match, Rivera went up against Jesse Taylor and had no answers for his relentless takedowns and wrestling skills. He went on to lose the match -- and his chance at a six-figure contract -- via decision.

Riddle, of course, is famous for the brutal jaw-breaking knockout of Dan Simmler in the first episode, as well as living in his mother's basement and not having a driver's license.

He lost his next fight to one of the few veteran's on the show, Tim Credeur, via second round submission (armbar). However, the goofy mama's boy performed admirably in defeat and earned the respect of his fellow castmates for putting up a good fight.

TUF 7 Finale features the middleweight showdown between former 185-pound champion, Evan Tanner, and TUF 3 winner, Kendall Grove. In addition, Diego Sanchez will take on Luigi Fioravanti in the co main event of the evening and the two finalists from the season of the reality series will meet to declare a champion.

Dante looked like garbage in both of his fights. I don’t want to see him fight again.

agreed, dante just laid on the guy in his 2nd fight. My gf was watchign with me and she was like “is that how he got his wins? By laying on people?” I hope riddle tears him up

I stand corrected in one of my other posts, somehow Dante Rivera IS fighting on the finale.

I’m shocked. He looked awful in all of his fights.

by R-Dizzle on Jun 3, 2008 10:01 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This is CRAP! The UFC is only letting 8 cast members compete on the Finale, and DANTE should not be one of them! Damn Turtle Humper!

I hope the goof Ball Knocks his twitchy Block off!

by John on Jun 3, 2008 10:10 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This is the only fight that I want to see of Dante. After he hopefully gets his jaw broken by Riddle, we’ll never see him in the UFC again. This should be some sort of “retirement match” since Dante said that he’d retire from MMA if he lost to Riddle. If Riddle can stop the takedown, he should be able to win this fight on the feet. Riddle has been training out in Arizona with CB Dollaway. They have really gotten close since the show ended. But hopefully, they both aren’t still wearing their matching white $10 gas station sunglasses.

So one of the final 8 will not be fighting at the finale. As long as there is no serious injuries, I would HAVE to say that it will be Cale Yarborough. He is not an mma fighter, and he’s young and very inexperienced. I can’t wait to watch CB murder him tomorrow night!

by ViolentMike on Jun 3, 2008 10:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It has to be Cale! Look for Tim Crueder to be upset tomorrow night! Crueder is going to try and Grope Cranmmer, then Crammer gets mad KO’s him!

Crueder: Oh My Gosh, Dude Crammer is just So F’in hOT!, I just want to eskimo kiss him to death! lol

by John on Jun 3, 2008 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

wtf?

by R-Dizzle on Jun 3, 2008 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL. I can just picture it John!

Tim didn’t pick to fight Dan to ugly him up, he chose him so they can roll around and have his flesh as close to Crammer’s as possible. If Credeur gets the mount position, he’s just going to glide his hips back and forth over Riddle’s groin.

If I was Crammer, I wouldn’t so much be worried about getting KO’d or armbarred or anything like that. I would just be scared to give Credeur my back because once he has my backside, there is no telling what he may do!

In two of the last UFC events (Wandy against Jardine, and also on the last UFN but don’t remember which fight, I think Boetsch/Hamil) we have seen the rape choke implemented. This may be the first MMA fight where someone actually gets raped.

R-Dizzle, this is all because Tim Credeur has said on NUMEROUS occasions that he thinks Dan Crammer is hot and sexy and he is jealous of his looks. He said the only reason he wants to fight him is because since Dan is prettier than him, he wants to prove that he can beat him in a fight. And he said that he looks like a model like 14 times… And so on and so forth. I really hope that Credeur isn’t sharing a room with Crammer!

by ViolentMike on Jun 3, 2008 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just saw that episode where where Credeur said he wanted to fight Cramer b/c Cramer is hotter than he is. WTF! This guy has flying gogoplata’d right out of the closet. lol

“I hope the goof Ball Knocks his twitchy Block off!”

LOLOLOLOLOL knock his twitchy block off.

One of these day’s Dante is going to get brutally KO’d (blink, blink, blink, blink) and lay on the floor completely stiff, (blink, blink, blink, blink)rather than twitching, and when he wakes up, the tick (blink, blink, blink, blink)in his eyes would be gone (blink, blink, blink, blink).

I don’t remember what I put in my first post that would have gotten my moderated. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Riddle will embarrass Dante. I have no idea how Rivera made it on this show. 2 of the most boring fights in the show’s short history.

by FukStyck on Jun 3, 2008 10:18 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This isn’t the best thread to put it, but tonight is the finale of Iron Ring on BET. It was taped back in February, and all of the episodes thus far have been 1/2 hour long. When I go home for lunch, I need to see how long its on for tonite. They might break the event up over a few weeks. Does anyone know?

by ViolentMike on Jun 3, 2008 10:28 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

VM: Tonights episode is 1 hour….I dont think it will be the last because I read in tonights episode Team Luda trades one of his fighters to Lil John, I think.

and 2 fighters have trouble making weight!

by John on Jun 3, 2008 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

AHHHH. Thanks for the info. Have you been watching it John? I seen every episode. I just set the DVR to record all and watch them when I can. I’m all caught up and looking forward to the fights tonite.

Some of the fighters actually look pretty decent. Its not as bad as I thought it would be.

by ViolentMike on Jun 3, 2008 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I saw most of the episodes. I did think it would be much worse. I do wonder how much longer the season will last. I will prolly just watch the marathon on a boring Saturday as soon as the season’s over

by john on Jun 3, 2008 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

riddle is a punk ass kid who wants attention more than being a fighter..

by mikeybear on Jun 3, 2008 10:34 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Zachrich said in his blog that Team Forrest picked Credeur to fight Riddle as soon as they had control because they thought he was a beast and would benefit from being with top coaches for a few weeks. He said they put their best guy against Riddle to try and take him out before he learned anything.

by Matthew on Jun 3, 2008 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually makes sense and I wouldnt be surprised if we see a much improved Red Headed Predator..Wonder if Juanito and Rampage invited him to get up of his mommas coach and go train with them for the Finale?

Crueder actually Fought Riddle instead of Fondled him
like we will see him do to crammer tomorrow night…I guess he doesnt like Red Heads!

by john on Jun 3, 2008 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Should be an easy TKO for riddle. I wonder if they’re going to show all of the crap talking between the two to build it up since most people will have forgotten about it by the time they fight.

by UFCAddict on Jun 3, 2008 10:53 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lot of Dante haters out there. His performance on the show is not a true representation of him as a fighter. Good guy, good fighter, if healthy, you’ll see the real Dante perform against Riddle…… Now I wait for the bashing of me in this thread. Anyone else think its time the UFC stops the TUF show and allows its fighters to fight 3x’s a year instead of once.

by PitBullNY on Jun 3, 2008 10:53 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I personally don’t hate on Dante but his performances have not matched his skill level. Maybe he just freezes up during crunch time?

Agree with the UFC stopping the TUF show. It peaked last season. It is a stale concept now.

by OJR on Jun 3, 2008 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dante was very impressive in his prelim fight to get in the house. He picked his opponent up, carried him around the octagon, dropped him against the cage and quickly submitted him – by kimura I think.

by ViolentMike on Jun 3, 2008 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Notice you said prelim…not the last two fights.

With his pedigree he should have looked just as impressive after the prelim.

Maybe the “real” Dante will show up v. Riddle…

by OJR on Jun 3, 2008 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No doubt OJR. He looked BAD in his two fights once he got into the house. The old man ain’t used to fighting so often!

go riddle!

by matthew on Jun 3, 2008 11:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

To Dante’s defense, Jesse’s corner was calling out EVERY submission Dante was setting up. If you roll BJJ, you’ll know that setting up moves is pretty much 90% of getting a sub to work. Having other people warn your oppopnent REALLY shuts you down (and is annoying as hell). Now, imagine getting hit in the face every time you fail.

Dante has sick BJJ. Expect a better performance at the finale.

by xocgx on Jun 3, 2008 3:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

thats the edge of having a good corner, thats what there suppose to do!…

by LongIslandguy on Jun 3, 2008 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, but the same corner had been coaching Dante for the last two months, making it much easier for them to recognise when he was setting himself. I thought it was pretty harsh.

RIDDLE RULES HE SHOULD GET A CONTRACT EVEN THO HE DIDNT WIN IT BUT HE SHOULD HAVE! HES THE BEST ON THE SHOW!!!

by stephen on Jun 14, 2008 3:22 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

these guys go into a house without the guys that have been cornering them for most their career. Dante is used to having ricardo almeida and renzo gracie in his. Expect a differnt performance on the finale

by miguel on Jun 16, 2008 1:42 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

why you guys hate so much on Dante, why dont you guys watch some of his other fights before the show and see why he made it to the show. yeah he didnt look at his best, but you’ll will see a different Dante on saturday, rested , with no injuries, and with the right corner. I would like to see you guys fight Dante.

Dante was a fighter in high school and he is now.
Him and I were supposed to fight but it got broken up by the high school principal.
I am very proud of him and where he is now.
I really wish people would stop hating because you guys wouldn’t be standing after he landed one of his blows on you.
All those punches he takes all you haters couldn’t take not one.
Hey Dante nice to see your still doing that thing with your eyes LOL…
You go Dante you are doing well for yourself.
It is a heck of a accomplishment since cash converteres in Brick huh??
The ones who talk trash are the ones who wish they were him.
Please don’t deny that boy has come a long way.
Everyone is entitles to bad fights.
You go Dante I thought the Andrews boys would be where you are never imagined you would go this far congrats.
