Elite XC: 'Return of the King' up next in Hawaii on June 14

elitexc return of the king
With the network television debut on CBS in the books, Elite XC will go back to the premium cable channel Showtime (for now) with its next show at the Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 14.

Elite XC: "Return of the King" will feature the lightweight championship match between 160-pound kingpin, KJ Noons, and the surging and always dangerous, Yves Edwards.

It's a fight that was not supposed to headline the show -- Jake Shields and Drew Fickett were supposed to battle it out to crown the first-ever Elite XC welterweight champion. However, for the second time the fight had to be postponed because of an injury ... this time to Fickett.

It would seem losing a fight of that magnitude would cause the card to suffer big time. That's not the case.

Noons and Edwards is an excellent match up between two explosive fighters who can finish fights at anytime. The two have a history of training together, which makes for an interesting story line. Plus they're both great athletes with different strengths.

It should be a war.

The card also boasts a nice mix of proven stars and up and coming fighters with loads of talent looking to make names for themselves. Those are the type of fights that seem to never disappoint (see Roger Huerta vs. Leonard Garcia for one example).

Here's the televised portion of the card that will air on Showtime.

Main Event:

160 lbs: Elite XC Lightweight Champion KJ Noons (6-2) vs. Yves Edwards (34-13-1)

Main card:

160 lbs: Nick Diaz (16-7) vs. Muhsin Corbbrey (8-2)
185 lbs: Murilo "Ninja" Rua (15-8-1) vs. Tony "The Gun" Bonello (16-0-1)
265 lbs: Dave "Pee Wee" Herman (10-0) vs. Ron "H2O" Waterman (15-5-2)
205 lbs: Rafael Feijao (5-1) vs. Wayne Cole (11-6)

In addition, ICON Sport Middleweight Champion, Kala Kolohe Hose, will take on Geoff Bumstead in a 185-pound clash that is sure to get the natives out of their seats.

We'll have plenty more on this event as we get closer to June 14. If you haven't heard of some of these fighters, take my word for it, there are going to be some great fights on this card.

These guys can all scrap and put on some exciting fights.

Check out the video promo for the event after the jump.

Too bad I cancelled showtime after watching last saturday’s bs, I wish Diaz, Noons, Edwards and Rua the best but I will never watch Elite XC again.

by Haze on Jun 2, 2008 10:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I canceled showtime months ago.

Nick Diaz should pull out of this dumb ass fight and concentrate on training for Mach Sakurai and his shot at the DREAM title!

Very true

I’ve noticed that all EliteXC’s event always have contraversy, this card should be no different. I think it’s been like 6 straight shows.

Gary Shaw is a boxing promoter. Dana did well to warn everybody that boxing promoters suck, should have listened eh?

this should have been the card that made it to cbs, but I still think all the haters will tune in, you guys are only talk. MMA is MMA regardless of UFC, Dream or EliteXC. if you’re a fan you’ll tune in. I anxious to watch Diaz and Feijão again, title bout should be good too. As for ninja I think his days are over :(, I hope I’m wrong though.

Linx: I agree that we will never see the Ninja that beat up Mario Sperry in Pride a few years back, which happened to be one of my favorite fights. That Ninja has been long gone. This version of Ninja, however still holds a ju jitsu advantage against most of his opponents, so he can still fight.

Its a shame we will never see the Ninja that fought Mario back in 2005

Ninja was the man, he even beat Rampage, although the ref’s gave the decision to Rampage, Page admitted that he really lost that fight.

by John on Jun 2, 2008 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I believe he won that fight too. I think that was his last memorable fight.

by linx on Jun 2, 2008 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah it was…..Remember when he got all fat, just to compete in the 2004 Heavyweight Grand Prix, and Sergie Kharitonov MELTED HIM! That was an awesome KO!

Some of the fights/fighters in Elite XC are decent, but the whole package seems to have a WWE feel to it. Between the Dancers, Pyrotechnics, and controversial reffing calls it all seems pretty cheezy with poor production value.
The ringside announcers for EliteXC are terrible as well.

I watched both the EliteXC and WEC events this past weekend and it was night and day between the two as far as quality is concerned. I know WEC is owned by UFC which is why the event quality seems higher i guess.

Even the ring intro announcer for EliteXC is cheezy as hell. I would love to boycott EliteXC, but there are several fighters I enjoy watching with the organization. I’ll it watch for free, but would never pay to see an event.

I don’t understand the name of the event. Someone clue me in please.

by chefdaddy on Jun 2, 2008 12:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Right, are they gonna have hobbits battle elves on the undercard?

by RiverHorror on Jun 2, 2008 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I heard the new main event is Viggo Mortensen vs Sean Astin or some shit like that.

that guys voice promoting the thing as the worst thing i’ve ever heard…

by sf on Jun 2, 2008 2:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I know that all of us are still a little sour over Elite XC, but please give this Noons vs. Edwards fight a chance, because both of these guys are incredible fighters, and this fight is going to be one to watch. This is a very big sleeper match on a lot of people, so I beg you to press the mute button and just watch this fight.

I also canceled my showtime subscription. I don’t want to support an organization that is taking the sport backwards. Elite XC has no clue what MMA is all about. They project it as brutal and bloody not to mension that there isn’t a person in the world who could convince me that the fights aren’t fixed to some degree.

The cry babies are out in full force i see…

Should be a fun card. Noons v Edwards is a quality fight however you slice it and from my point of view (being an aussie and that..) seeing Bonello step up for the first time should be great. Assuming he makes it to the cage that is..

by Fenrsz on Jun 2, 2008 5:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Djs3467…. please explain how you think the fights were fixed. The doctors and refs are all paid by the athletic commission, not elitexc.

Funny thing is, take out the tradition MMA fan and Elite XC was pretty successful on Saturday. It had huge ratings and people who don’t watch the UFC or Pride (before) have been talking about how they liked what happened on Saturday. I watched with four other friends on Saturday and all of them will watch the next one but still won’t shell out $45 for a UFC card. Stupid, yeah, but it’s getting ratings and buzz.

Did anyone else catch the dude in the glasses use Kimbo Slice in the same sentence with Tiger Woods?…….lol.

I hated this past weekend’s event but I’ll be watching this one. Great card. Hopefully that’ll translate into great fights.

unfortually, people had to be exposed to that crap ,crappy fighters in a bunch of crappy fights with crappy endings, should change their name to crapxc,to me looked like wwe more than mma dancing girls ,fireworks, and fixed matches

by scott on Jun 2, 2008 6:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m never going to watch elite XC again after that BS on CBS

by jay on Jun 2, 2008 7:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Mania why dont we do a poll to stop the talking about Elite XC on mmamania.com as it just feeds this corrupter of MMA (Gary Shaw). He is clearly cheating in an attempt to make more money why are we supporting this s%it?

MMA is not fixed fight wrestling. How much fun is it to watch fights that are quite possibly fixed in the future???

Yes I am a fan of UFC but also a fan of MMA but this pisses me off

What about Herman and Waterson , Herman is one tough Hombre to my understanding. Waterson was at one time a WWF wrestler . Is this true?
