No SH*t! Do we really need this dude to say it? as if the whole world already didnt know it. If they werent going to protect Kimbo, we would have seen Kimbo vs. BigFoot by now.
I dont think Shaw wants to match up Kimbo with Grim, but if he doesnt its going to look real bad for Kimbo because Grim has been running his mouth since Saturday.
It will be interesting to see if this fight happens….But I doubt it! I expect to see Kimbo fight Gannon for his next fight, which will be another promotable B.S fight that the casual fans will eat up.

there was a link in the grim section with shaw saying Kimbo/Grim won’t happen. I’ve been very critical of the elite brand saturday, and let me set the record straight! I was very entertained during ALL of the fights! It’s in no way the fighters fault at what left the sour taste in my mouth! 3 bad stoppages ( the doctors fault) and the building up of a guy with next to no talent! There are people saying it’s only his 3rd fight and he’s only been training a year. I saw a list of top fighters’ third opponent, and there were names like vitor and uno on the list! A year of training and zero skills…what is he training for? My 6 year old can arm bar, choke and get my back…thats just from me teaching him! The hype isn’t Kimbo’s fault, but the lack of progression is!
by the way, if he fights Gannon, he will lose!! He will only be fed strikers!

Brett Rogers is going to have to keep on running his mouth right in Kimbo’s face every opportunity he gets. The only way this fight happens, is if Kimbo DEMANDS it. James Thompson OWNED Kimbo in the first round. Rogers fought Thompson at the same event as Kimbo/Tank and Rogers KO’d him out cold in about 1 minute. Brett is still a newcomer to the sport, but he has a solid wrestling background. I thought that Rogers would have been much more taller than Kimbo. At the press conference, he only looked a little taller.
Kimbo/Thompson should have ended in the first round when Kimbo looked to have tapped, and it should have ended at the end of the second when he ate about 136 straight elbows to the face. He could hardly stand at the end of the 2nd and collapsed at the end of the fight, and was so out of breath during post fight interview that he had to call an end to it.
If Thompson still wants to fight, I strongly suggest that he gets his left ear amputated. The highlights in between rounds (after the 2nd especially) when they show the punches in slow motion, I couldn’t help but laugh at his ear bouncing and jiggling around like it was having a seizure.
As for the stoppage… questionable. Did Shaw tell big Dan Miraggliotta that if he has the fight end in Thompson’s favor than…… And if Kimbo wins, and you help him, I will pay you $100k. The announcer’s really sounded like it was fixed. Who’s voice was that screaming? Was it Mauro?? I couldn’t even tell. I know it wasn’t Frank, and Gus didn’t know much…
Betting on Kimbo was GUARANTEED money, but I was sooooooooo scared those first two rounds.

John will disagree with VM?? I hope not because this is one of the most intelligent posts ever. Did you notice just before the ear got punch they mentioned it? You’re right Mike!!!!

THe whole tapping thing… He gave thumbs up one time, but looked to have tapped another, both in round 1
by ViolentMike on Jun 2, 2008 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions
he tapped VM. no doubt. this whole thing stunk and its not the fighters fault. scott smith wanted to continue and now kaitlin young is saying that she wanted to continue. kinda funny on how all 3 fighters shaw wanted to win most got the most breaks.

man i thought something was up with that. even at the time it happened, i was confused. personally i like Kimbo and was hoping to see him do well. But to rob Thompson that like is totaly b.s. Thompson should cause a major sink about the entire thing. the early stand up when JT had side control then the stoppage of standing strikes in Kimbo’s favor. Naw that aint right. I was hoping Kimbo would do well, but for him to act like it was legit is crap. i lost respect for Kimbo.
by jdawg on Jun 2, 2008 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Kimbo did not tap out. It was a thumbs up to let the ref know he’s okay. He gave another thumbs up in the 2nd when he was taking elbows. He kept letting the ref know that he was okay. Even Thompson said that he didn’t tap out. He did not tap, he said he will never tap out.

fightline:
Hughes vs Serra confirmed!
Matt Hughes has confirmed to our friends over at MMA Madness that he will be fighting Matt Serra, win, lose or draw, after his fight with Thiago Alves.
The UFC has apparently given the fight it’s blessing and the fight will take place at UFC 89 or 90 – sometime in October or November.
If Hughes is able to win both fights, he will be given another welterweight title shot.

An American such as yourself can not understand why Fedor took the fight against Choi. Fact of the matter is that the Japanese culture is very different from yours and maybe you dont understand it, but they like Freak show fights. Fedor took the fight to give back to his Japanese fans who made him a star!
Do I like the fact that he fought Choi…Of Course not but I understand the reasoning behind it!

I read on another website that Bret Rogers is going to be released from the EliteXC.The person that mde the poast said that he works closely with the EliteXC and this has been rumored. Also an e-mail was sent out on what to respond on the early stoppage and that JT had to be rushed to the hospital. Gary Shaw is a JOKE! he only cares about one thing and that is his pokcet book to get out of the financial trouble they are in! Hey Dana time to buy Elite XC!!!

“BOYCOTT EliteXC”…???..haha lol.
This will never happen! No matter how many threads you post this nonsense in, people will still watch!…
I watch ALL MMa promotions..There is not one promotion that is on the UFC level, but I still enjoy watching minor league promotions. It is alot better when the
UFC sign’s a new fighter, and I already know alot about him, while MMa fans that only watch UFC, have never heard of these fighters..
Forget that reason…I just LOVE to watch MMa.
shit? I even watch the IFL…There is no way I will Boycott any MMa…Especially FREE MMa!..
You must be high?
And not high like me, or Nick Diaz high…
I mean more like Nick Nolte high….Your crazy!

I’m not gonna watch this either……and I’m not even high yet today! Would rather watch the IFL. Not all MMA is the same. Elite XC showed us it was extremely sub par and not worth watching. Its like the XFL that came out a few years ago. Just because it was footbal doesnt mean it deserved to be watched.
by RiverHorror on Jun 2, 2008 12:11 PM EDT up reply actions
hey stagger, thanks for the post in the other thread…as I said it’s not Kimbo’s fault for the hype, but the lack of skills is his fault! He’s been training more than a year! The fights were entertaining, but 3 early stoppages make it fishy!!
by kevin on Jun 2, 2008 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah I guess your one of those guys that are easily entertained by mediocre displays of MMA. I bet every fighter that wins is your favorite fighter too. Poor judgement is typical of a burn out pot head. Thats cool, stick to your EliteXC. You can by the DVD’s of the past events to put next to your WWE and G.L.O.W box sets that are in your room in your moms basement.

wow, where you been mxicutioner?? I’ve been bashing this event more than anyone on this site!! The stoppages were weak, the fights suspect (works??), I like villasenor, and thought the smit/lawler fight was going good. The Kimbo hype is a joke!! My guess is you only read your own posts to comment at me like that!!

yeah except EliteXC has shown they aren’t MMA.. rather a crooked, shady version of it. so boycotting EliteXC isn’t really boycotting free mma. instead its saying that, we, as MMA fans aren’t going to put up with this staged BS that Shaw is trying to give us.

I dont think he’d fare well at all in the UFC heavyweigt division. Perhaps if he learned how to do a sit-up he could fight lightweight and get mauled by Penn. ( That’s my little way of saying he looked like an overweight tub of goo).
by chefdaddy on Jun 2, 2008 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions
He’s talking about Kimbo’s last fight right? I saw him do what looked like a tap out in a guillotine but the commentators said he was giving a “ok” sign. Is this a real controversy?
by Landowner on Jun 2, 2008 10:56 AM EDT reply actions
That’s not the part where he tapped. I think a lot of people aren’t getting that.
by KneeToTheFace on Jun 2, 2008 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions
what people “aren’t getting”, is that Kimbo did not tap at all…..
Hell even Thompson said he did not tap…here is Thompsons post fight interview…this dude is a pretty funny guy, and you get to see how Gary Shaw is really a douch-bag.

I thought it was funny as hell when Shaw told the press that Thompson was on his way to the hospital, then Thompson walks in right afterwards!!!

Wow. Just wow.
James Thompson showed alot in that interview after all he “had trouble breathing.” That was man wanted to sit down, but after all he was “going to the hospital.”
Shaw telling Thompson, “Do you still wanna be in this company tomorrow morning?” What a dick.
Gary Shaw is a cancer on the sport of Mixed martial arts.

I agree with him that kimbo is made out to be something he’s not, but kimbo tapped thompson once in the elbow when he had him in that lock. now if you’re tapping you tap more than once. One tap is not tapping…
by linx on Jun 2, 2008 11:06 AM EDT reply actions
If you tap that means the lock is tight and you will be sleeping soon. If Kimbo tapped he would have been asleep pretty soon after that. I still didn’t like the fight but I went back and watched it a couple times and I don’t think Kimbo tapped.
by Bic on Jun 2, 2008 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions
he did tap thompson in the first round (only once), I think he was thinking about tapping but did not follow. Still, it would have been a terrible idea to break up the fight with only one tap.

Kimbo is a joke! Casual fans talk about this guy as if he’s top 10 in the world! Rogers will put an end to the hype FACT!
by braveheart on Jun 2, 2008 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions
Shaw already stated Grim would not be getting the next fight with Kimbo – In Shaw’s words “its about the dollars”.
Shaw and Kimbo have a big problem ahead of them. Who does he fight next? If its Grim or Bigfoot, Kimbo loses. Anyone else would be looked at as a bigger fix than Cantrell, Abbott, and Thompson (although the Thompson plan almost backfired on them – and should have if not for a referee bias). The lesser of the two evils would be to match Kimbo against Grim. When Kimbo loses, Shaw can just explain that he was knocked out by a lucky punch from a bigger man and that everyone gets caught at least once. Doing it that way with Grim may help retain some shelf life for Kimbo and the company. Fighting Bigfoot would expose Kimbo’s zero ground game even more than tonight.
Kimbo stated he would never tap and I’m not sure what to take from that. Either he is full of crap and just fronting OR his training is severely lacking and he’s never been on the other end of an armbar, ankle lock, or rear naked (you will tap brother!)
by TD on Jun 2, 2008 11:41 AM EDT reply actions
I don’t see why they wouldn’t make the match. It’s very marketable and they can’t expect Kimbo to carry their organization if they blatently set up mismatches that no one believes is for real and even the company’s own fighters are calling bullshit. If Kimbo loses, then he loses, big deal. If you’re organization can only survive with the victory of one fighter, then your organization has no chance to survive at all.
“EliteXC, You are the weakest link, GOOD-BYE”
by getrawbc on Jun 2, 2008 11:43 AM EDT reply actions
Kimbo is being fed cans AND is being protected by the refs. He did tap on a quillotine and he took about 8 undefended elbows to the head without the ref calling it? Its obvious Shaw set some pretty specific guidelines for this fight.
Kimbo has zero ground game. Can you imagine what Nog or Mir would do to this guy? I wasn’t even impressed by his striking and his cardio? Wow, if he gets gassed from being in a guillotine and being on the bottom position for half a round then he is in real trouble.
Kimbo has a looong way to go and thats putting it lightly.
by bostonmmajunkie on Jun 2, 2008 11:46 AM EDT reply actions
This is an obvious fight to make between these two but my guess Mr. Shaw will try to find a way out of it. Or if he is smart let them fight when Brett beats Kimbo which my guess he would then try to build up Brett as the next big thing.
by Tim on Jun 2, 2008 12:07 PM EDT reply actions
This was always going to be a problem with Elite. Fighters with a better skill set than Kimbo, who are being paid less and promoted less than Kimbo are starting to get angry.
Gary Shaw wont put Kimbos “career” in harms way by allowing a fight where A)Kimbo will get beaten & B)Shaw wont earn loads of money.
Wouldn’t be suprised if Rogers is released from his contract at some point this week.

I heard a group of dudes discussing the Elite XC fight this morning on the radio. One was a MMA fan, the others were not. As they were watching the fights on the web, when Thompson’s ear started bleeding, they were grossed out. I don’t think the general public is ready for MMA on broadcast TV. And that amount of blood was far from the worst I’ve seen in MMA. If Elite XC is banking on CBS to make it big, I think they’ve made a mistake. They should go back to Showtime (since I don’t have a subscription to it). I may just find someplace to see a Kimbo / Rogers matchup. It’d be short and end with Kimbo on his back.
I’ll say it again, Kimbo needs to move to boxing and get out of MMA.

I dont like how the Elitexc is dealing with Kimbo. They making him seem as if he is a vet in the sport. Certainly, he is tough and has won street brawls easily, but compared to other fighters in the sport he is just a noobie and they would have fun with him in the cage. It would be better if the elitexc would just stop revolving their organization around kimbo and start focusing on the other decent veterans they have or start finding more talent….

You know what I finally realized about Kimbo Slice…i realized that all this hype about his KO power is just that…hype!
KIMBO HAS NO KO POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started to believe about his KO power because he’s a big, massive, intimidating guy…but who has he really knocked out? Not Gannon…not Mercer…not Bo Cantrell….not even a ‘glass jawed’ Thompson….he only KO’d an overweight, no MMA skills having, old man in Tank Abbott and a few cans in the back streets of Miami.
Same with Marvin Eastman or Jeff Monson. Huge, scarey muscular dudes, but aren’t exactly knocking guys out left or right.
I’m sure if a Kimbo punch lands flush on anyone, that person is going night night. That could be said about any heavy weight MMA fighter. But why buy the hype that he even has the ability to KO a quality MMA heavy weight. – KO’ing Tank Abbott doesn’t convince me.
