WEC results for Faber vs Pulver fights on Versus

WEC 34: "Faber vs. Pulver" is slated for tonight, Sunday, June 1, at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif., airing on the Versus network at 9 p.m. ET.
MMAmania.com will post the quick results below throughout the evening and pass along a comprehensive recap of the action once it concludes.
This is a big night for the Zuffa-owned promotion -- perhaps its biggest to date. WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber will look to defend his 145-pound title against a former champion, Jens Pulver, who is undefeated at the weight class.
In addition, Miguel Torres will look to stay on top of the 135-pound category, putting his newly-won strap on the line against the very tough Yoshiro Maeda. "Razor" Rob McCullough, Chase Beebe, Jeff Curran and other stars will also compete tonight.
It's going to be a good one. So check out the results after the jump and feel free to join in the conversation below with all the other fans tuning in tonight.
Enjoy.
Urijah Faber defeats Jens Pulver via unanimous decision
Miguel Torres defeats Yoshiro Maeda via doctor stoppage (eye injury) in round four
Mark Munoz defeats Chuck Grigsby via knockout in round one
"Razor" Rob McCullough defeats Kenneth Alexander via split decision
Donald Cerrone defeats Danny Castillo via submission (armbar) in round one
Mike Brown defeats Jeff Curran via unanimous decision
Will Ribeiro defeats Chase Beebe via split decision
Tim McKenzie defeats Jeremy Lang via submission (triangle choke) in round three
Alex Serdyukov defeats Luis Sapo via technical knockout in round two (unable to answer the bell)
Jose Aldo defeats Alexandre Nogueira via technical knockout (strikes) in round two
Dominick Cruz defeats Charlie Valencia via unanimous decision

Damn It! I fell asleep so early yesterday (just way too BAKED), I missed the event. How was the Febar vs. Pulver fight? Was Faber ever in any trouble?

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A FIGHT Pulver vs Faber was. They were advertising it as the greatest cagefight in history. Of course that wasn’t going to be true, but honestly, that was ONE of the best fights I’ve seen in a while.
Wait, I just read who I’m replying to. JOHN!!!!!!!! YOU missed the event????
I thought Pulver was DONE in the second round. He ate like 10 unanswered bombs to the jaw and stayed standing and within seconds, he was throwing back and had Urijah rocked a little bit.
MAD RESPECT TO JENS PULVER. Everyone counted him out and thought he couldn’t get out of the first round. He went 5 rounds with Urijah Faber who has the best conditioning in all of MMA (FRank Mir). Pulver was in pain and fought threw it. Notice his facial expressions when he is eating elbows while Faber was on top.
Also, Yoshida Maeda had me very pleasantly surprised.
Cowboy got another win!
I got a lot more to say about the fights this weekend, but don’t have the time right this second. Be back in an hour.
PS- I hope everyone listened and bet a parlay on Kimbo/Faber. It was paying out at just under -200. It was a lock.
Kimbo on the ground!!!!

I work midnights..And I had to miss this live..I did not pass-out like “burn-out” john..lol j/k
I just finished watching it, and I must say that the Pulver/Faber fight was one of the best 145lbs fights I have ever seen..
Granted Jens did not perform as well as I thought he would, the fight still had me on the edge of my seat because I know what Jens is capable of…
Faber is no joke. I gave him the slight edge in my prediction before, but I never thought Faber would stand with Jens the ENTIRE 1st round…imo Faber’s stand-up is what took the fight in his direction…I bet Jens was even puzzled a bit..
nonetheless’ great fight! and all around pretty good card.. I will probably watch the Faber/Jens fight 2 or 3 times agian before I go to bed..
yeah -bed. that sounds good..it is getting late(for me) and I should crash soon…Time to roll up a fat joint, and watch the fight a couple times…
goodnight, or i mean goodmorning..

This McCullough fight sucks. The Elitexc show at least had knockouts, this is a real snoozefest so far. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

McCullough is (unfortunately) just looking to get back in the game. The LAST thing he needs is another loss. I’m not saying I like it, but it’s no surprise he played it safe.

man dana white is a fucking idiot.
he says WEC is 10 times the product PRIDE ever was, he is completely fucking ful of himself and living in a complete dream world. Honestly is there anyone who agrees with that, ANYONE!!!!!???!!!?!?!?!?!?
ANYONE AT ALL!?!?!?!?!?!?
WEC is fucking great though dont get me wrong, its 10 time the product EliteXC is. But sorry Don White King, Pride FC was in a league of its own.
by rhys on Jun 1, 2008 9:33 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think pride was better then WEC.
But I also think UFC is better then Pride FC.
WEC is minor leagues for UFC.
by ShaiZ on Jun 1, 2008 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Pride was alot better IMO… but my only problem with Pride is that it’s gone and UFC is just giving the fans ten times more quality fights then pride ever did. Not a UFC guy here, just pro MMA and good fights, and UFC is delivering big time right now!

WEC may have more good fighters than Elitexc. However, I’ve yet to be impressed by the WEC shows w/ the exception of maybe Faber and Brian Stann.
The Elitexc shows I’ve seen have all been entertaining. They just need to quit babying their so-called stars and maybe keep the doctors out of the ring so much.
by Clint G on Jun 1, 2008 10:01 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
WEC has Paulo Filho, Faber, Torres, Brian Stann, Keralexis,
Elite XC has Scott smith, Gina carano, Kimbo, Lawler, antonio silva, nick diaz, jake sheilds, Ricco, Ficket, and Shamrock…
Gotta admit Elite XC has the better talent
by matthew on Jun 1, 2008 10:29 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Nick Diaz is definitely a league above—but to use Kimbo in an argument as too who has the ‘better talent’ is a bit of a stretch.

Cung Le is in Stikeforce. But EliteXC does co-promote with them often
by ViolentMike on Jun 2, 2008 10:36 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ricco, kimbo, antonio, are all garbage.
There’s talent in WEC you didn’t mention; Pulver for instance
Scott smith was a middle of the pack, nobody in UFC and he’s top of the heap in Elitexc, what does that tell you?
by ShaiZ on Jun 1, 2008 10:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Im comparing Elite xc to WEC not UFC! UFC pwns any promotion right now obviously!
even with pulver you have to admit they just have more talent. I like WEC too though they got some good fights.
by matthew on Jun 1, 2008 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Elite doesn’t even have FW or BW, which is where WEC is loaded, so it’s apples and oranges. Personally, I think the top 2 or 3 LWs in WEC would destroy any EliteXC fighters. Condit would destroy any WW in EliteXC, including Diaz. Lawler may be able to beat Filho, but no certainty. The WEC LHW division is thin except for Stann because all the top 205ers are in UFC. WEC has no HWs. The point I’m trying to make here is that Elite sucks.
by PW on Jun 2, 2008 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Carlos Condit most certainly would not desrtoy any WW in EliteXC. He would not destroy Jake Shields, actually, he more than likely wouldn’t beat him. Jake Shields is a Top 10 WW on everyone’s list. Carlos Condit is just starting to appear at #10 on a few lists, but not many.
ALSO, Jake Shields and Carlos Condit have fought in the past. JAKE SHIELDS WON THE FIGHT AGAINST CONDIT.
by ViolentMike on Jun 2, 2008 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Whoa that bold and completely inaccurate.
WEC – Filho, Faber, Condit, Torres, Hicks, Munoz, Pulver
EXC – Diaz, Silva, Lawler, Villasenor, Kimbo (newbie still), Shields (strikeforce), Shamrock (almost done)
WEC – has more talent overall.
EXC – has a better heavy weight division
The chick division doesn’t count as only EXC has it.
by RipTheSystem on Jun 2, 2008 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think the best that Elite XC has to offer is Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, Nick Diaz, and Frank Shamrock. Cung Le even though he beat Shamrock to me needs to be tested. Shamrock lost that fight because of his ego. He tried to beat Cung Le in a stand up battle. Had Frank really tried to fight his fight-Changing leveles and setting up for takedowns I think it would have been and entirely different fight. The few takedowns he went in for were not commited takedown attempts. Would Shamrock have won? I do not know but I do know it would have been a much different fight.
That in mind comparing the orgaizations in near impossible. WEC prides itself on its lower weight classes. With Torres, Faber, Pulver, Swanson, up to Carlos Condit. I think Carlos Condit and Jake Shields would be fight of the year easily. Shields has not lost in 4 years, Condit has not lost in 2 years. Both Phenomenal strikers and both great bjj guys. I think if you went champ for champ in each class that they have n common it would be interesting.
Starting at 150#:
KJ Noons vs. Jaime Varner/Marcus Hicks-I would think either Varner or Hicks would beat Noons.
170#:
Jake Shields vs. Carlos Condit-Potentialy a fight of the year in any MMA organization.
185#:
Robbie Lawler/Cung Le vs. Paulo Filho/Chael Sonnen- Another huge fight of the year. Maybe an edge going to Lawler for his fight experience Le for his stand up. But the wrestling and ground game will go to both Paulo and Chael.
205#:
Frank Shamrock vs. Brian Stahn- This maybe the area where Elite Xc has the upperhand. Though at 6’1" and Marine Corp. Mentality he maybe able to out muscle Shamrock, but not likely.

how do you think bruce lee in his prime would have done in mma? keep in mind he would have been in the 145 weight class. he was very hard working and dedicated. I think he would have evolved and learned bjj, etc…he was not stubburn about styles. I think Bruce Lee would have been a top 5 guy at 155 or 145 if not the champ.
by hatteras on Jun 1, 2008 11:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
random comment but I do think he would of been a amzing mma fighter. He has aamazing cardio, strength, athletacism, and the disciplin to learn any kind of technique.
by matthew on Jun 2, 2008 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
In the day, Bruce Lee would have been a top fighter, he did study jujitsu and grappling and basically said that most martial arts alone was ineffective as a combat style. It was ironic that his movies created an unrealistic protrail of martial arts. Bruce Lee despite his movie persona’ was deep down dovoted to learning the most effective techniques of MMA.
He died when he was 30, who knows how much more he would have really learned?
by THORAZINE on Jun 2, 2008 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lee was actually 32 years old when he passed away. If you like MMA pray to the Martial Arts Gods that there was a Lee Jun Fan (Cantonese) or better known by his American name Bruce Lee. He incorporated all the best aspects of different arts including boxing, fencing, Judo from Gene Lebelle, and many others. Bruce Lee is the true father of MMA, that is why he developed Jeet Kune Do and went away from “The Classical Mess” of ancient martial arts.
There is no doubt in my mind that Bruce Lee would have developed the sport much sooner. He was already light years ahead of everyone on the planet and I truly believe had he participated in MMA he would have been unstoppable!

I would rather watch WEC than Elite XC anyday. If you wouldn’t I’d suggest you go back and watch last nights elite xc’s fights to tonights WEC’s fights. Completely different levels. The WEC I think has much better talent than Elite XC, it’s just undiscovered talent. The Faber/Pulver and Torres/Madieahdsflh fights show just how much better it is.
P.S. Jens got pummeled. Dang that dude has a chin. Urijah is going to have to move to different weight class because no one can challenge him at 145.

Faber trained with BJ for BJ’s fight against Joe Stevenson. I’m sure if the money was right, they’d fight each other. But I really doubt BJ Penn is looking at Faber as a big money fight. Big money is BJ vs. GSP or Anderson Silva.
Besides, if Faber was gonna go to the UFC at 155, far more interesting matchups would include Faber vs. Clay Guida, Roger Huerta, or Joe Stevenson.
by TabascoSAUCE on Jun 2, 2008 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Faber wouldn’t do as well at 155lbs, 145lbs is good for Faber… if he had to, he probably could squeek into 135lbs, feeling like shit doing it though.
I think we’re going to see some of the smaller UFC 155lb fighters cut down to 145lbs and take a shot at Fabor. Guys like Tyson Griffin or Frankie Edgar, could probably make 145lbs.
by THORAZINE on Jun 2, 2008 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well good luck to them. I have not seen much of Fabor until tonight. And I was damned impressed. Fast and powerful as hell. Pulver was punching air half the time. Pulver is a fucking bull tho. I thought he was done for at least three times.

Just got back from Arco,
What a great night of fights. A couple of observations
1. Got sick of having every fight having someone of hispanic descent in it. I know we were in cali, but atleast in every fight one fighter was brown.
2. They must of gave strippers the night off…so many hot women never seen so many breasts implants. Also, never seen so many White and brown peeps in one place except for in my home town of san diego. In a place that is really diverse (Sacramento) this was wierd.
3. One of the biggest stirs in the crowd came when chuck liddell ran from one end of the arena to the other. He went from luxury box down the lower level isle to the floor, to the other side of the cage to his 3rd row seat all the while people cheered loudly in the crowd.
by derreck on Jun 2, 2008 1:02 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs

Hey Derreck wtf does skin color have to do with MMA ???? Also whats wrong with White and Brown people being at the WEC event ? You mention that it was a great night of fights, well obviously hispanic people can fight, example Torres. Also i hope you dont consider Faber brown, i know to your obvious untrainned eye in judging people by skin color that Faber looks Brown, but thats just a California tan is all, he is white, just like Pulver is. So sorry you were mislead but the main event was 2 white dudes battling it out. Sorry you had to witness such racial diversity at a MMA event. But on a positive you did get to see alot of Silicone…
by BJ'S#1NutHugger on Jun 2, 2008 1:21 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Actually its a Hawaiian tan, trained there with BJ and Joe Jauzon. I just got from Arco too…pretty freakin loud, very impressed with entire show. Derreck is right, there was a lot of silicone there. The biggest stir, aside from Liddell, was Tito entering the arena, and after the RAzor Rob fight (in his corner), he ran around the arena too. He climbed above the cage at Razor Rob’s corner, and from my viewpoint, he truly does have a big noggin…gawd!!! The Torres fight was non stop action, I expect them going at it again. Torres was frustrated early on how Maeda took it to him. Much respect earned towards Maeda and Pulver. Great show!!!

Amazing fights, what a weekend for Dana White and his “Rage against the EXC!” Shaw is living in a nightmare, it couldnt have gone any worse for him. The WEC just put on a card that made me forget about last night, Torres!! Faber!! And damn, Pulver brought it as much as he could. (AND IM THE BIGGEST BJ PENN FAN ON THE PLANET!) But Jens just made a new fan for sure, simply put amazing showing by all athlets entering the cage tonight (minus the Razor Rob Fight LoL) Pulver/Thomas2!!! ORGANIZATION RANKINGS:
- UFC
- ELITE XC
- WEC
- STRIKEFORCE
THE ELITE XC SATURDAY SHOW WAS MORE EXPLOSIVE THAN THE WEC EVENT.
MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING.
THE ONLY GOOD PART OF THE SUNDAY WEC EVENT WAS THE FABER PULVER FIGHT.
THE REST OF THE SHOW FELT LIKE A BASIC SPORTS SHOW.
ELITE XC WAS WAY MORE DRAMATIC AND EXPLOSIVE. I LIKED BUSTA RYMES ENTRANCE FOR ROGERS. AND I LIKE THE GIRLS DANCING. THE SHOW NEEDS THESE ENTERTAINMENT SPECTACLES TO BE ON FREE MAIN TV. IF NOT PEOPLE WOULD GET BORED. UFC OF COURSE IS STILL #1 BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR 10+ YEARS. THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DETAIL THERE SHOWS, AND SEE WHAT HAS WORKED AND NOT WORKED ON PAST SHOWS. ELITE XC WILL FIX THERE MISTAKES ON THE NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS.

Is it just me or did it look like Jens was afraid to let his hands go? There was more then one occasion when he hit Faber with a good shot and Faber backed up agaisnt the cage like he was hurt, and JEnz did NOTHING!! So frusterating as I was voting for Jens, but Urijah definently is the best at ’45

All I know is I think “The California Kid” is a punk… only a loser from CA would actually call himself that. That was by far the least exciting fight of the night, and in fact every fight he’s (Faber) has every had puts me to sleep! I despise every athlete, every professional team, and coledgent teams of course, from the pathetic state of CA! Had a great time routing for the Rays at a recent Angels game, what a bunch of pathetic fans… it cracked me up!
