Elite XC ratings on CBS

The preliminary ratings for the Elite XC: "Primetime" telecast that aired last night on May 31 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. are in ... and the numbers look promising.
It is too early to tell if last night was a a huge success for the network debut of mixed martial arts on CBS because the final numbers will be released on Tuesday.
Here's what we do know:
The 18-49 year old demographic showed a strong increase in viewers over the first two hours of the broadcast. The first half hour showed 1.4 million viewers, which increased to 2.4 between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. ET.
That's a significant increase.
In addition, the second hour of the show was the highest rated in the 18-49-year-old demographic of any other show on television in that timeslot.
Keep in mind that these preliminary numbers are only for the first two hours of the show and probably increased even more over the last hour or so (most people often wait and tune-in for the main event).
The final numbers will certainly play a big role in whether or not we see another event on CBS. There were an estimated 4.3 million viewers that tuned in overall last night, according to THR.com. But that's just an estimate ... take it with a grain of salt.
Regardless, for the sake of comparison, the numbers were good enough to surpass those of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals game four that was being showed on NBC.
And CBS has to like that.
Elite XC signed on with CBS to air four LIVE broadcast television events this year, but the network station has the option to move those shows to its sister company, Showtime, at any time.
Only time will tell if that's what eventually happens, but if these estimates are right, we'll be sure to see at least one more show on CBS ... at least.

Nope considering the first 30 minutes was talk.
For a new fan to sit through the whole thing is monumental.

These rating will go down next time. Most people where just watching out of curiousity. THIS IS THE SAME THING AS THE XFL. Their first show was high and then it slowly deceased after that only lasting one season. Add to this horrible production and thug fights and this is what you will get.

I have to blog about this sad waste of my time and friends.
First off i love mma and UFC is ruling the game right now. I’m not a fighter in training and i hear that UFC is not paying their fighters the best rate but who is? Zuffa is killin the production level in their events and make it easy for anyone to enjoy fan or not.
1. elite xc went way over board on sponsorship and promotions spots god dam there was like over 100 commercials and their was only 2 fights in one hour!!! Dam who was the title sponsor did they not give them enough funds to cover cost? and so many free advertisements for hella companies the exec @ cbs were probably like who the fuck let all these guys get free promotion!!!
2. The production was horrible, here’s what i saw, microphones in camera shots, terrible cuts & angles, bad entrances only consistent think was showing fighter faces&names in center projector @ prudential center before fight. the dam camera guy kept moving the camera like a raver on drugs during the fighter introductions, bad interviews. etc and the dancers were not in shape and they were showing ring girls faces instead of bodies b4 fights, best thing was busta rhymes new track hahaha
3. The fights! best fight was girls fight. doctor stopped 2 fights, all fights looked amateur, rigged or not they sucked
4. Kimbo fight, kimbo is a dope fighter don’t think he’s a great mixed martial artist. needs lots of work but at 34 i understand ufc not making contract with fighter that has maybe 2yr life span. I’m still a kimbo fan but at the end of the day its a business not a street fight.
5. commercials, nuff said. i felt like i need ed to get mickey’s, buy e-insurance, get a burger from burger king, buy a bigblack tshirt, then drink a rockstar and do it all over again. dammmmmmm
all in all the wackest thing i saw was the head promoter of elitexc gettin in hella shot of the show true proffessionals use camera time wisely, and don’t talk about behind door business on national tv like “both fighters will get their win bonuses” ya’ll know what i’m talking about. MMA is turning out to be a battle of business like WWF vs WCW vs ECW and we all know who won that one World wildlife federation ahahahahaah. JK. Dana keep doin what your doing other guys keep playin catch up. last think show was free and i want my money back. check out my production www.worldofdancetour.com killn em softly. word.up

I have been watching MMA fights for many years and think competition between brands is great, but what I watched last night on CBS was a joke. The only fight that was worth anything was the women’s battle. We all know that Kimbo is a big powerful brawler that we would move to the other side of the street if we saw him coming our way angry. As far as MMA specialist he’s not and showed that last night but with some time and training he might turn out to be OK.
What I see as the problem is Elite XC. The have invested so much time on making Kimbo the next big thing they have forgotten (or never had an idea) the need for good fights. The ref went into the ring last night knowing that Kimbo had to win. Did Kimbo tap? Kind of looked like it, but with 45 seconds left in the second round and Thompson with side control and Kimbo in a cross style hold not defending himself, the fight should have been stopped. The same ref stopped the first fight of the night prematurely; you must give a fighter a chance to recover. So if safety of the fighter was a concern why not stop the Kimbo fight when he could not defend himself for over 45 seconds. Then turn around and stop the fight from a bloody ear and a barrage of tired punches from an overrated fighter that Thompson had been able to take in the beginning of the fight. The ref could not let that fight go to the score card, Kimbo would have lost and CBS and Elite XC would have been hurt in the pocket books. So here is the bottom line, Elite should keep Kimbo’s opponents to hobo’s from the train yards and CBS ought to find a partner that wants to put on great fights. Also I hope that the ref got a nice bonus from Elite for the poor judgment so that he can retire.
But this is only an opinion, What’s yours?

why not stop the kimbo fight? “…The same ref stopped the first fight of the night prematurely; you must give a fighter a chance to recover…” maybe when the ref went in the back the he was told that and maybe he realized that he shoulda gave it a chance. Its all a bunch of maybes but its the way it went
by Steve on Jun 1, 2008 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions
What’s in it for the ref? I think his human nature side took over… he saw blood everywhere and Josh is known for having a terrible chin… on more good clean hit and he could have been really hury IMO. You make solid points though, thanks.
by Robert on Jun 2, 2008 8:53 AM EDT up reply actions
Mickey you do realize that Kimbo gave the ref a thumbs up like twice while he was pinned down beating beaten by VERY VERY soft punches right? If the fighter says he is fine the ref shouldnt step in because clearly the fighter is in the right state of mind if he can say ‘im fine’ while being hit. As for the stoppage later on in the fight yes they stopped it to early they shouldve allowed James to hit the mat then stop it.
Ok…now you say the womens fight was the only good thing, clearly you didnt watch the whole event. Robbie vs Smith was plain out better and wished stupid bitch whore ref lady wouldnt have stopped it terrible stoppage. He had 5minutes to recover and she didnt let him thats plain out stupid. Either way that fight had plenty of action and at times i thought it might be over but Smith got tons of heart and kept fighting.
Overall the even was ok, next time around im 100%sure it will be ALOT better. Oh and Kimbo is EXACTLY where he is supposed to be at with 3wins and his skill shows it hes doing real good but his gas tank failed. He will be back better his next fight and continue to improve.

There positivily will not be a next card on CBS. Before the card the CBS head guy didn’t like being with EliteXC. Last night’s card’s overwhelmiong negative comments in the media and blogoshpere (even from CBS) make the likelihood of a second card 5% at best. Anyone who sees a rosy picture has an ulterior motivee (eg. works for them). Shaw is an embarrasing figurehead for an athletic promotion. I watched this with a few casual friends and found the whole thing cheesy and dishonest (preferential treatment) and would waste their time doing it again.

The blogshpere? These companies dont give a FUCK about the blogsphere the care about MONEY!!! and If they made some…scratch that ALOT, and they had 4 million viewers like some are predicting then the WILL stick with XC guaranteed, the blogsphere …dont flatter yourself man this is business and money talks…comments dont.

Ok so the ratings were good. So were the ratings for the first week of the XFL The thing is that people will stop watching if the product sucks. And from what I saw last night this product DOES SUCK. All it’s gonna take is another lackluster performance by Kimbo and a couple more bullshit Dr. stopages and people will quit watching. I am telling you Elite XC will fail. Letting Kimbo carry the company on his back is like the Brooklyn Brawler carrying the WWE!

ratings for the first show don’t mean much. Network execs look at em and go “ok, so people are interested and tuned in, now lets see if they stick around and watch the next one”.
if there is a second show on CBS that will be the true indictator of how well they are doing. everyone stops to look at a trainwreck once… now lets see if they come back for seconds. i know i won’t.

The ratings for last night were probably a negative thing. Now that people have seen the product! Ratings alone do not keep a show from being cancelled. The firesorm of complaints about the night will surely weigh into the head of the people at CBS. Their head guy was agains this one show. They’ve already just cancelled their Jul 26th fight. Prediction: This was their one chance and the product was a dud. The XFL had a high rating at first but the people who turned in realized how bad it was and turned away. Initial impression is important. I can guarantee you that he initial impression of anyone besides an EliteXC nuthugger was low. Furthermore, EliteXC has already claimed that they are so indebt (27 million) that they might not make it through the year. EliteXC ans Shaw should just go away – hey are ruining our sport. EliteXC is a gimmick organization. Anyone defending last night mess has an ulterior mehod,

How come no one mentions Phil Baroni’s entrance into the cage… That alone turned off about 3 million viewers!! I generally find it hard to hate a guy that commits his life to MMA, but I can’t wait until the day Baroni points the barrel of his gun to his mouth.
by THORAZINE on Jun 2, 2008 12:36 AM EDT reply actions
My 9 year old daughter stuck her head in the room when Baroni was making his entrance and said," Daddy, That guy’s dress doesn’t match his shoes." I laughed my ass off. The other thing is nobody is talking about Baroni b/c he just isn’t worth mentioning.

I think Kimbo is a joke more than anyone and I also agree that the referee was told to make sure Kimbo came out the victor but the guilltine…that was not a tapout. It was a thumbs up.

I am a Kimbo fan. I always have been after I saw him mangle big D’s eye. But that fight showed me that he needs to work on his ground game and his cardio much more than I even imagined before. It is possible that he would have won that fight due to knock out but due to that ridiculous stoppage, he did not. Overall, I am a huge Brett rogers fan now and for his career, he made the right choice in acknolwedging the ridiculous parts of the fight. I’m not sure if he could beat Kimbo on his feet (it is very possible though) but if Kimbo doesn’t work on his ground game and his cardio, he is screwed.
by RyanHobbs on Jun 2, 2008 4:34 AM EDT reply actions
Its easy to walk around and throw punches, what gases people is the push and pull and weight being placed while on the floor.
Kimbo I doubt could beat Sherk. Maybe only a 5% chance unless stupid a$$ Sherk decided to throw with him.
by Yikes on Jun 2, 2008 8:00 AM EDT reply actions
Royce Gracie already proved in the early UFC’s that a smaller BJJ guy could beat ANYBODY on the planet no matter how big so dont throw BJ’s name around like hes so good that he could just beat the shit out of Kimbo in a groud fight of course but what about stand up? Seriously do you think BJ could take an uppercut from Kimbo or ANY HW?
If thats the case you might as well go around saying
50 Piranhas can kick the shit out of a Lion any Day.. yeah in the water
its apples and oranges but if you put BJ Penn in a boxing ring VS Kimbo with gloves on does BJ win?
I love MMA and have no loyality to ANY league I like certain fighters from all leagues Faber is a bad ass white boy who will serve all comers, I love Rampage, I love the Ax murderer, I love Silva, Emelianenko,GSP, Big Nog, and yes Kimbo no not because hes a total MMA package he told you himself after the fight “I’VE GOT A LOONG WAY TO GO”
What more do you want?
He threw Knees, got in the guard, did a few sweeps, he put on a hell of a show, did he get gassed absolutely but is it the first time weve seen a fighter gassed? Even some of the guys who ARE the total MMA package have been TOTALLY OUT OF GAS during and after a fight.
I know one thing the sports bar I was at Sat had a mix of everybody in there probably the same people who watched the fight all over the country…black, white, old, young, men, women,MMA highbrow types, dudes just following Kimbo from Youtube, Guys who just love MMA action heres what I saw during the Kimbo fight:
Before the fight the atmosphere was electric
Everybody groaned when they showed his ear before the fight even the high brow MMA dudes in the corner
When the fight was going on and Kimbo was throwing knees every knee had people saying ayyyyy…ayyyy like it was a damn Mui Ty match (but to be fair weve never see Kimbo do anything but punch)
When he was in the Guillentine the place was like getting down like “Damn he got em”…but when he gave the thumbs up the place went FVCKIN nuts!!!
When he did the little sweep reversal it was almost deafening drinks spilling high fiving (would that make it onto a BJJ highlight tape? nope but again weve only see him punch)
In between rounds the atmosphere was electric everybody giving their expert analysis
The ear bursting had everybody groaning
The stop had the room maybe 50/50 happy and thinking it was too early
But everybody had a blast..
Thats why I dont get where all of this disgrace, embarrassment, mockery , talk comes into play.
Again Im a fighter guy I could give two shits about Dana White or Shaw or the UFC or Elite or WEC the fighters are the real heroes and tough guys to me

I used to really like that ref, and thought he was the next Big John, but I really don’t understand the inconsistency. He gave Kimbo plenty of time to improve his position or defend himself properly while Thompson was beating on his head when they were on the ground. Afterwards, when they were standing, he stops the fight after Kimbo lands some big shots before Thompson drops. I don’t see what he would have to gain though, being so inconsistent.

Did anybody see the Nick Serra fight? It was a disgrace and it’s a good thing it wasn’t televised. He was dragging his ass on the ground like a dog, trying to get his opponent into his guard. This, after he tried to pull a flying guard. The ref warned him and took points off for not getting up and engaging, but Nick refused and the ref had no choice but to stop the fight. Nick needs to stick to sport BJJ and teaching. And he also needs to stop running his mouth. This is the guy who in UFC Countdown said “Serra’s don’t tap” and asked of GSP “Is this guy a fighter?”. How’s that humble pie taste? Mmmm-mmm, bitch. Your brother should be ashamed. Matt is all heart and always comes to fight.

Being a longtime fight fan, from the early 90’s…the kimbo fight looked so fixed to me…first the guys ear was f’n huge, now wouldn’t most trainers drain that? duhhhh…and then kimbo loses both rounds, and he right hooks the ear and its a instant stopage for a bloody ear? i was like wtf!!! and i am 98% sure kimbo tapped…and don’t get me wrong,i wanted the card to be awesome, because the ufc needs competion!!! but wow…could you imagine what Tito ortiz or even Brock Lesnar would have done to him??? woulda been over half way through the first round!!! the fight just looked fixed
