i agree mania! it not like ufc had this card in mind when they firts came up with it!! this card was effing amazing when it started up. but Dana and zuffa can not control the element of fighter life’s and injuries..to be honest they did a great job in saving the card! it would have been a disaster to cancel it. non the less it will be a sell out crowed. you ppl shame me as mma fans…the britsh dont care…they just love fights. I don’t know about you guys but I think Nate Marquardt vs. Thales Leites is going to be one of the better fights on the card. Most of the fights we will get to see are pretty good, which is what I would rather see than just one or two good fights and the rest are bores.

I don’t think its a plain “if you don’t like it, don’t buy it” argument to be made here. MMA fans constantly have to watch out what they can get for their buck and in times of WEC with Faber-Pulver, DREAM4 and Affliction card coming up, its wise to consider spending a limited budget on cards that sound promising.

After the rather weak card in ireland and this card I really hope the UFC will visit europe the next time with a championship fight again. Watching the event on TV is fine, but I’d rather go watch it live in an arena again, as – I am sure – most british/european fans would like to.

I wonder how Matt Hughes is gonna win? Is he gonna win by decision or tko? I’ll go with a unanimous decision victory with all three judges scoring it 30-27 in favor of Hughes.

While there are some tomato can worthy opponents on this card, I’d look to Marquardt/Leites or Swick/Davis as a great fight, if not great marketing. Neither will increase ppv buys to the casual observer or armchair quarterback. We’ll leave that up to elite xc as they pull out all the stops by opening the show with Busta (? insert snide remark). That said, I’ll take Bisping/Day for $1000, alex. Us good ‘ole canadian boys know a wee bit more about “dooms” day. Perhaps it’s a homer bet, but I’ll go with day at +260. Call it a hunch… hehehe. Why is it “crying” to say that a card sucks when it so obviously does?

On paper people may say it sucks because it lacks supposedly ‘big fights’ but………
I was at Nations Collide in Manchester last year and the main card looked very good. When infact 3 of the 5 main fights were shite. (congo/silva, arlovski/werdum, machida/heath). The undercard was, on paper, going to be borin but all 5 fights were very entertaining. Dont write this card off as you could be suprised.

CroCop has cancelled the grappling match due to a light injury. He could have competed, but to him getting fully recovered for the 21st of july was more important when he will fight Jerome LeBanner.

Too bad, I thought it could be funny, but MMA > pure-grappling in this case, so as long as he has no excuse for a poor performance against LeBanner I am cool with it. The grappling match was definetly not what urged me to buy DREAM 4 in the first place anyway.

suprised by the werdum/vera fights outcome. vera needs to move to lhw. werdum was just to strong for him. a 245lbs werdum compared to a soft 225 lbs for vera made all the difference. werdum had him in the full mount and vera wasnt trying to get out. werdum is for real and is still relativly young.with wins over g.g. and vera back to back he could probably get the winner of mir/nog, but thats so far from now he might fight again. but who could he fight? the winner of herring/lesnar or maybee kongo, i dont know.

Werdum would submit Heath Herring in a heartbeat (remember his terrible takedown defense, and his track record against other submission specialists. Lesnar would be more of a challenge; that’s like a Bob Sapp vs. Minotauro sort of fight. I’d watch it. I view Brock Lesnar with a decent amount of respect so I don’t think that constitutes a freak-show bout of the nature that Bob is accustomed to. Kongo IMO doesn’t deserve a shot at Werdum. Give Vera to Kongo and Werdum to Lesnar and that’s a solid event.

Terrible. Matt’s a class act and one of the guys that built the UFC to the status it’s at today. Alves is a punk and a disgrace to the sport for not making weight. Swick threw a couple good kicks, but he looked slow and his “g-n-p” or in his case, gay-ass down-syndrome girl style windmill g-n-p was pathetic. Swick – Davis = zzzzzzzzz snoozefest, gimme 1/5 of my 44.95 back UFC!

Every PPV people complain about terrible match-ups and only having only five “televised” fights. Once again, if the fighters deliver and finish we will get to see the extra fights. Today, eight of the eleven were shown in their entirety and two of the remaining three had their finishes shown. Once again, the “this card is a joke” PPV delivered a solid amount of entertainment.

That said, I can’t wait until the “These guys are underpaid” comments in a couple days in the pay-out thread.

Very impressed with Bisping and glad he is adding depth to MW division now. That along with the return of the Hitman and 185 isn’t so thin anymore. Some good potential match-ups possible.

Anybody have thoughts biggest shock in TUF history? Could just be a line to bolster poor ratings and get people to tune in and nothing shocking will happen. I think the big shocker (if there actually is one) is Amir beating the big favorite Cock Block Dolloway. I really hope so. Noone likes a CB.

I hope that Vera now realizes that he has to drop to LHW!! The fact that the ref (Miragliotta) stopped the Vera fight but did not stop the Ferguson fight when he was getting pummelled for 45 seconds proves that the Ferguson – Thompson fight was fixed. Vera only has himself to blame though as he put himself at the ref’s discretion. Objectively, overall this was not one of the UFC’s better cards.

My thoughts on UFC 85 -

Vera/Werdum: I picked Vera to win this, so I was naturally disappointed to see him lose. I think the fight was ended prematurely. Sure, Werdum was kicking Vera’s ass and was raining down the ground and pound, but he never really had him hurt and there were only a couple of seconds left in the round. I suppose it doesn’t help matters since this was the same ref involved in the Kimbo Slice/James Thompson fight.

Marquardt/Leites: I thought this one could go either way initially. It’s a shame about the point deductions costing Marquardt the decision, but this is one time I agree with the refs since he blatantly kneed Leites, and you could see his fists kept on grazing the back of his head. Pretty cool looking piledriver slam by Nate, but by this point the card isn’t off to the best of starts.

Swick/Davis: Looks like training with Fitch and Koscheck has really paid off for Swick. This was another fight where the guy I was rooting for lost. Davis should have done more to keep the fight standing though. It was clear after the first round he’d be at Swick’s mercy off his back. This fight was the one I was looking forward to the most, but was also the biggest disappointment in my eyes. It just wasn’t as explosive a contest as you’d imagine judging from the names of the fighters involved. While this was better than the Burkman for fight for Swick, it still paled in comparison to most of his past fights and I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever really see Quick Swick in action again. He’s just not as exciting to watch as he used to be.

Bisping/Day: Bisping really impressed me here. While I picked Bisping to win this one, I expected the guy who demolished Alan Belcher to put up a much tougher fight for him. A lot of respect I lost for Bisping in the Hamill fight is slowly creeping back in. Still gotta give props to Day though for stepping in there. And I really hope they can make Leben Bisping’s next opponent like he was supposed to be for this card, that’s a fight I really want to see happen!

Hughes/Alves: Wow – Did NOT expect to see that. I totally picked Hughes to take this fight and refused to jump on the Matt Hughes is over bandwagon(I mean, come on, his last two losses were to GSP for crying out loud). But damn, Alves looked good in there. Good sprawl, and a devastating knee. I still think Hughes has a couple of fights left in him, so I’m glad he’s not retiring before he takes on Serra. And Alves asking for a title shot – heh, you might NOT want to ask the president of the company for a title shot when you came in overweight to this one, no matter how your performance was. No one wants another Travis Lutter or Joe Riggs situation.

Undercard fights -

Lambert/Cane: Lambert looked out of shape. That’s all there really is to say about this one.

Wiman/Tavares: Man, I didn’t give Wiman a chance in hell here. Tavares was taking it to him in the first, but he came back strong in the second and scored a great knockout.

Kampmann/Rivera: Nice to see ring rust wasn’t an issue for Kampmann in his return fight after a years absence. I think he could potentially become a contender.

Overall: Not a bad way to spend an afternoon at the sports bar, but this was not one of the UFC’s better fight cards, and UFC 86 looks to only have a title match over this one. UFC 87 can’t get here fast enough IMO.

It looks like Matt Hughes is nothing without his juice or hgh or blood doping or what ever he was using when he was slamming guys through the mat. I mean doesn’t it show now that all those guys who dominated an the past and are still young enough to compete who cant get past the commisions without getting popped on a test. Who wont risk it because it will erase all there wins in the past, dont do so well anymore. It seems fishy to me.

Matt just dont have any answer to the atlethisism, power, skill level, and the killer instinct to finish fights that young guys like Thiago Alves, and GSP does.. It would have been a upset if Hughes could’ve avoided Alves powerful strikes for 3 rounds to me.. to be honest i believe that a guy like Anthony Johnson would take Matt Hughes out also, and so would Koscheck and Diego Sanchez too..

Bisping should fight Patrick Cote next to test Bisping’s chin. If he gets past Cote let him fight Franklin or Henderson.

Hughes is a shoe in UFC hall of famer and im a huge fan of his. He needs a different gameplan cuz everyone is on par with his wrestling skills and his strength which used to be his advantage over other fighters. Deff needs to work on his striking thats the biggest hole in his game is the striking offense and defense. I dont think Thiago’s weight had much to do with it although he prob put on about 10 pds since the weight in before the fight. The sport in itself is evolving fast and growing so some fighters like hughes that were unstoppable 2 or 3 years ago now are being outclassed by the up and coming fighters that are extremely well rounded. Its not to late to round out Hughes’s game unless he thinks it is. His wrestling and BJJ are great he should focus on the striking mainly. I dont credit him not being able to secure takedowns much anymore to him lacking in that area i credit it to extremely talented fighters with great sprawls or defense. If Hughes had lawler like striking capabilites he would be near unstoppable lol. but thats not gonna happen i know. Thiago is the real thing but i need to see him fight someone up his alley a little more style wise before they start thinking title shot. hughes lost and as a fan i can except that lol every fighter wins and loses thats part of the sport really any sport for that matter. And if your gonna be a fan ya have to get used to excepting the losses along with the wins. I still think he will beat Serra but its a good matchup so i hope its a great fight.

Hughes is a team player and has come through for the UFC to provide exciting main events when other fighters have gotten injured or couldn’t make weight. Unfortunately, it has worked to his own detriment. He let GSP fill in when Matt Serra got injured. I think Hughes would have beaten Serra, but he lost to GSP. Alves could not make weight for this fight and looked much bigger than Hughes. But Hughes would never refuse to take the fight and ruin the night for the UFC and it’s fans, even though Alves was much bigger and stronger than him. But no one will remember Matt for being a good guy and taking both these fights. All that will be remembered is that he lost them both and that this has probably ended his career.

It is amazng that Mirglitta remains employed. Bad fight stoppages, standing up fighter while they are in aggresive floor positions. Some of the stuff I have seen him call over the last 2 weeks have been absurd…

the UFC is really hyping vera because of pure business aspect..because of manny pacquiao in lightweight boxing. pacquiao got 500T ppv numbers in his last fight… so the ufc wants that same crowd(theres an estimated 2 Million filipinos in the u.s) to buy its ppv…filipino market. and combine that with the american established ufc market..then theyll make a lot of money… but it backfired because he lost… im filipino and support vera.BUT DAMN he makes so many excuses!!!!!..he had the golden opportunity to k’o tim silva..and get the title.but he broke a thumb boooowhooowhoo… now he got mounted and he’s saying— let him take his woopin in 20 seconds….a lot of tough talk but i think he lacks the heart… he told everybody he trains 6 hours a day but was clearly gassed against silva…. i think its the fear factor(fear makes you tight and you tire quickly)….
