Brock Lesnar vs Heath Herring UFC 87 fight ...
... at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 9 that we reported last week was recently made official by the way:

Let's just hope that the "Texas Crazy Horse" trains some groundwork for this one -- he's going to need it.

IMO a better match-up than Coleman, should be entertaining.

Shogun Answers Back at Sokoudjou:
Rua responded to Sokodjou’s recent comments via GracieMAG:
"They can match me up against anyone and I’ll be happy. It is Dana White and the guys at the UFC who decide who I fight with. I’m not going to give this guy any attention, because I have fought better fighters than him. He wanted to fight me and I never said yes or no – they just didn’t make it happen and he ended up fighting Ricardo Arona at Pride’s last event. I never heard anything about Chute Boxe telling him he’d have to fight Evangelista Cyborg before me, like he said. I’ll fight him like I have always fought all top competitors.

That’s a fight I wouldn’t mind seeing, though I would much rather see Shogun and Liddell fight, and maybe Soko whoops Rashad’s overrated ass. lol

Soko does not deserve a fight with Shogun yet. These should be the next match ups booked:
Shogun vs. Liddell
Thiago Silva vs. Machida
Soko vs. Rashad
Goren the croation vs. Jardine
Wanderlei vs. Hendo at 205 (if wandy wins he gets next shot at Rampage)
Gouveai vs. James Irvin

First, let me start by saying ,I am a HUGE Brock fan.He IS the tuffest guy in the UFC!!! Very talented!!Could be HW champ in 2 yrs. or less. He could fight big names every 3 months. He can dominate any HW and win in less than a min. O.K., maybe not Randy, but he can hang! Give him credit, he is fighting tough guys. I think he will win this one and many more.

Dude, I cant even count all the things that are just wrong about that statement. Randy is one guy that Brock would destroy in less than a minute. He already showed that he couldnt beat Mir and Nog would run right through him. This isnt amateur wrestling and it isnt pro wrestling.

Brock isn’t a Kongo, you better train your ass off Heath. Everyone thought the Mir vs. Brock fight was short, wait to see what Brock does to Heath – G&P.

I can’t believe I actually like Herring more than somebody else. I don’t give a shit about either fighter, but I have no tollerance for, and have no respect for Lesnar. I have no feelings for the winner of this fight.
by GodDamnMike on May 31, 2008 9:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Obviously the winner of this fight means something to you or you wouldn’t have posted your comment. Having no feelings for this fight most people would just overlook the whole thread.
People act like it is such a big crime for Lesnar to have the confidence that he has. The guy loves competition and I am not a fan of the WWE but it’s not like he is claiming to be this MMA master or anything. He is training hard just like everybody else and he wants to win just like everybody else. I don’t understand the hate. Brock lesnar is the Kimbo Slice of the UFC, the only difference is that Brock has fought a legitimate HW. Hate him or love him, he is a amateur HW with a more vicious ground and pound than most ten year veterans.

As much as I like Brock – and I do – Herring has too much experience against the best the heavyweight division has to offer. Brock is still growing as a fighter, and will one day be great. Herring looks to have turned a corner in his career (as evidenced in his fight agaisnt Congo) and will take this hard fought battle.
by WADZ on May 30, 2008 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with you to a point. Herring has experience, but it’s losing to the best in the heavyweight division. I’m just thinking after a few big shots he’ll be looking for a way out.

He only beat Kongo because Kongo was dumb enough to fight him on the ground. Cheick is way too inexperienced on the ground to be considered a top fighter.

this is alot tougher fight than colman and i could see lesnar losing it.he should be able to over power herring and just gnp to victory since herring is not a bjj guy but herring is tough and alot more experienced and i want to see if lesnar can take one of his punches.
by roy on May 30, 2008 5:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
this will actually do something for his career except pad it this will actually earn him real respect in the world of mma ,although herring will not be able to handle his wrestling i expect a very quick 1st round stoppage ,brock too strong for herring

Blah blah blah…. Lesnar is screwed! He is better off being padded. I wonder what the excuses will be this time. .
Herring has JJ skills and can stand and bang with the best and he has weathered some viscious GnP so I think Lesnar is the underdog. Yeah tough draw for Brock.

Herring has one of the worst guards of anyone in MMA with his experience.
Herring also has horrible takedown defense. Freaking Kongo took down Herring at will, and Kongo is a striker.

Brock only fought once in the UFC and it’s too early to say he’s no good, it takes 3-5 bout to see true potential out of any new fighters whether they good or not.

Brock never had any excuses when he lost to Frank Mir, in fact he admited that Mir got the best of him and credited him, Brock is a class act. Not to mention that Lesnar acknowledged where he went wrong. Its going to be Brock Lesnar will melt the Heath Bar.

herring definitley will be a tougher fight for brock than coleman. herring has looked muched improved since his loss to irish"fag" obrien and is in almost everyone’s top 10 at hw. this fight will be make or break for lesnar unless its areal close decision and i dont see this fight going the distance. a loss for herrring could set him back quite a bit as well.win both fighters need to win to stay or become a contender, it usually makes for an interesting outcome. herring is good on the ground, but not nearly as good as mir. imo herring must keep this fight standing and brock has to get it to the ground cuz herring has good stiking w/ his fist and his legs.

BW: I love your assesment! Good stuff.
1st I want to start off by saying, after purchasing the UFC 81 DVD this week and watching Brock vs. Mir, I am really starting to feel that Brock got cheated by Mazzagati. I am in no way shape or form some Big Brock fan, but I got to keep it real the stoppage and deduction of a point that Mazzagatti slapped Brock with was Pathetic! I am one of the most outspoken people on this site about my displeasure for ref’s not consistantly calling illegal strikes to the back of the head fairly….Mir was luckily saved BY Mazzagatti. Brock only really hit him in the back of the head once, and Mir crawled into it. Mazzagatti was screaming to Brock about watching the back of the head prior to that blow, but at that point Brock wasn’t even hitting him in the back of the head so the Warning was unjust to begin with. In NO way should Mir have been given time to recover and Brock been deducted a point and I really think Brock would have won that fight, if Mazzagatti would have done his job correctly.
As for Hearing vs. Brock, its going to be a WAR. Brock proves he can throw a hard punch by dropping Mir, with what I believe was a straight right, which led to the submission. Hearing can take a punch….I have seen Fedor Literally BLAST hearing a bunch of times with some extremely powerfull pin point strikes in the ground n pound, and Hearing took a few Big ones, before that fight was stopped. Hearing also took big shots from Cro Cop in the stand up, his chin held up, but Ultimately lost due to a liver Kick…..Basically what I am saying his Hearing is tough as Nails, and an experienced warrior, who happens to be training the RIGHT way for the 1st time in his life…I couldnt even recognize him when he fought kongo…
Both Guys r going to come to bang, and this fight is too far away to start making predictions. Brock can win this fight, but Hearing is very dangerous standing with his kicks and knees, and Hearing has much better ju jitsu then Brock… Its going to be a WAR!!
10 times better fight then what Coleman vs. Brock would have been!
by john on May 30, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Jardine wasn’t given time to recover win wandy hit him in the back of the head, but Jardine was going down reguardless. I agree with everything you’re saying about Mazzagatti. He makes bad decisions a lot and it is really something the UFC should look into .

Herring has been in WARS against some top fighters, including Minotauro 3 times. Lesnar better bring a more diverse game plan this time.
I do question, however, what a win against Lesnar does for Herring’s record. I mean, I know Heath’s record lately has been up and down, but still, we’re talking about a guy that’s 28-13-7 against a guy that’s 1-1 in Pro MMA. Is giving Lesnar his second loss in a row — which would be an utter proof that he is no real opposition, if that happens — going to increase Herring in the rankings in any way?

I think Brock will get a first round TKO. Brock will be all over him just like with Mir, but I don’t see Herring pulling off any clutch leg locks. I think that Brock will just take him down, smother him and start feeding the hammer fists.

exactly he was destroying mir before the ref stepped in and took a point and mir’s jj skills is worlds ahead of herring why was he scared of getting on the ground with norgera and he said that he made a mistake he gave not one single excuse stop putting words in fighters mouths
by scott on May 30, 2008 5:33 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’d love for Herring to beat Lesnar, but is everybody forgetting what Jake O’Brien did to Herring? Herring did absolutely nothing from his back for 15 minutes and he couldn’t stop the takedown for the life of him. Lesnar has much more established wrestling than O’Brien and has shown great G’n’P. I think it’s going to be either a very long night or a very short night for Herring, but either way I don’t see his hand being raised at the end.
by just1fix on May 30, 2008 5:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
it’s impossible to do 3 months of takedown defence and think you’ll be able to stop Brock shooting on you and not let him take you down. If i was Herring’s coach i’d be concentrating on BJJ and fighting off his back because i’m about 99% sure thats whats gonna happen.
by SpiderStyle on May 30, 2008 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
When this was first a rumor, I wrongly said that the UFC would never have Herring fight Brock for that very reason. I was at the fight that Jake O’Brien wrestled Heath to the ground over and over again. Heath’s main escapes were when the ref stood them back up because neither was staying busy enough. That’s not going to happen again. Brock is going to easily take him down, but he’s going to stay very busy with turbo diesel hammer fists raining down on Herring’s head. I don’t see how Herring stands a chance unless he’s improved more than I think he has fighting on his back. This is going to be a very expensive fight for the UFC, and I think it’s going to make Heath look really bad.

VERY overrated heavyweight.
But, they could give Lesnar a title shot for this.
It’s not like Nog earned one.

Nog didn’t need to earn a title shot in the UFC. His record spoke for itself just fine. Dana is not going to put Lesnar in a title fight for a win over Heath. The champ will be either Nog or Mir. There is no way Lesnar is fighting Mir again (so soon), and he is not ready for Nog’s BJJ.

Herring wins, then they can not deny him a title shot, unless Fabricio Werdum completly mauls, in all means MAULS Brandon Vera in a quick 10 second fight.
I think if Frank Mir wins against Nog, then a Herring/Mir match right now would be a much more marketable match rather than Herring/Nog IV, even though people are still saying “what if Herring pounced on Nog.” I think a Mir/Nog fight would be awesome right now.
Or maybe, Frank Mir wins, and Brock Lesnar wins, and Fabricio Werdum loses, then you have to think, is there anybody in that heavyweight division that has a big name to go against Frank Mir that has a winning streak? DO you go with Brandon Vera or you could go with Brock Lesnar. Both would be rematches. Mir vs. Vera II and Lesnar vs. Mir II, both would be big money fights.
Thats how right now I am seeing this fight. if Fabricio Werdum loses (and I hope he does) then the next title shot will go to either Vera, Herring or Lesnar because there is literally nobody else you can give a title shot to that will be able to bring in the money like one of those 3 fighters.

idk i would like to see nog herring IV. all of there fights together have been pretty good.
mir and herring would be a good fight with mir winning by sub imo but brock will beat herring
if werdum even wins his fight and herring loses then werdum should have a title shot. werdum would have beat GG and Vera and lost to AA who imo is still a top 5 fighter thats just lost right now
but if lesner wins he shouldnt get a title shot for 2-3 more wins. ur right about theres not anyone really that can bring in money yet but hell Dana will prob bring cro cop back and he will fight Nog. that would be a mega fight CC vs Big Nog..
GG is a one kick wonder who crocop would beat 9 out of 10 times anyways but dont forget about kongo in that messed up ufc HW division. with 2 more wins he could get a shot

I imagine Brocks standup is like watching Sherk try to box, with less coordination.
If Herring trains takedown defense and a lot of clinches on the ground to get it standing, he can pull off a loudly booed decision.
Other than that, he will probably get raped by a 350 pound pitbull for about 15 minutes.
I wouldn’t put him past +200 though.

and also why does people think brock’s standup would be weak all he needs is to land one to knock someone down then no matter what he has them where he wants them remember he is a beast i can’t wait til he destoys herring and then eventually gets his shot at the belt and wins i want to see what people say then is he hype nobody knows but people here act like it lets wait and see but he has the potential to brings to heights this sport has never seen and don’t hate that be glad that there is a chance that one day you can go i remember when every ufc was a tournament and hardly anybody liked now everybody loves it and these fighters get paydays like boxers and you don’t have to hear about bs of about the fighters are underpaid and we all get to see the best matches possible

This is a full stop. This is a comma, THESE ARE CAPITAL LETTERS.
Fighters don’t get paydays like boxers. Main event boxers can pick up in excess of $5m, MMA fighters even with sponsorship money, win bonuses and PPV sales cut get nowhere near this. I believe some fighters are underpaid but they sign a contract to fight so they must be satisfied with what they receive.

No really ,how about you check the time i didn’t know we had a english teacher online ,but of course your from the uk !You call your self a mmafan ,yet you justify boxers making more than fighters ufc brings just as much as those big boxing matches ,so give them what they really deserve .Oh yeah boxer at lower levels fight for that too ,are they happy or trying to work their way toward the big payday

What?? There’s so much wrong with these posts…
What the hell does coming from the UK have to do with anything? Do you imagine perhaps that all British people often discuss the fineries of the English language?
I think the point he was making was that a bland semi illiterate rant about the greatness of Brock Lesnar and your love of MMA is made even more painful by no punctuation.

Win or Lose this will only build street cred to Brock Lesnar and help build his experience level. I am a fan of Brock and think that he has a chance at edging this out, but I would give the odds on favorite to Heath since he has so many huge fights under his belt.
Gotta give it to Dana for throwing Brock in the deep end of the pool instead of taking the chump way out like Gary Shaw and feeding his “new monster”, KIMBO, nothing but glass-chin cans.
In 2 years it is scary to think what Brock Lesnar will be doing in the UFC Heavyweight Division.

Mir was the worst possible fight style wise for Brock. I think Herring is a much better style fight. Question now is can Brock take a couple punches. If he can it is going to be a very bad night for Herring

Experience always plays a part in this game and HH has that edge.
I still say HH lost to Nog because of poor strategy…if he would have jumped him after the knock down he very well could have won that fight.
I still give the fight to BL but I don’t think it’s gonna be a walk in the park. HH is tougher than a lot of you think.

My hat is off to the UFC for this one they could have very easily given Brock a can but instead they have given him a very tough fight with an experienced guy who loves to mix it up great fight. Gary Shaw I think you can learn something by this.
