UFC Quick Quote: "This victory is ours"

"My greatest joy was without a doubt to be able to bring happiness to those of you who never gave up on believing in me. My true friends, now we have been redeemed. I spent the day reading and re-reading the messages from you on the internet. You have no idea how happy I am. I am certain any fighter would love to have fans like you. I went through three hard months, training for this fight, and it wasn’t just once or twice that the messages from you uplifted me and stimulated me to keep on training intensely. This fight was decisive. I was under a lot of pressure. I had to win by all means. But at these tough times I could see you guys were with me. To have the affection of you guys on my side is an honor, it is priceless. I was very moved and felt like crying after the win. Thank God I cry from happiness. At that moment I thought of all of you excited by this so long-awaited moment!! Now you can also talk to me on MySpace (myspace.com/wanderleisilva). Here I’ll be able to get to know you better. I haven’t the words to thank you enough for the strength you have given me. Let’s beat our chests and celebrate with much joy, because this victory is ours!! Thank you so much."
-UFC light heavyweight Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva sends a personal message to his fans via his blog after defeating Keith Jardine at UFC 84: Ill Will in just 36 seconds.

cool as hell! ive read were hes not going to move down to 185, so a rematch w/ chuck or hendo at lhw would be a perfect set-up to a title shot.

Really hard not to love Wandi. Why not give him Machida and let the winner get the title shot around New Years Eve.

that would work as well! 2 brazillians with a 3rd big nog fighting as well. they (theufc) should consider going back to brazil w/ all their great contengent they have. i know theyv’e been there once before, but i cant remember when. maybee before zuffa took over.

I can’t believe the UFC hasn’t gone to Brazil yet… And I really think Wandi would be Machida’s kryptonite. It makes sense, they are both coming off huge wins on the same weekend.

the ufc has been to brazil way back in the day. I think wand fought in it too and kneed the wrestler tony petrerra unconcious in his now infamous clinch

wandy is awesome, how can anyone not like this guy? As for UFC in Brazil I don’t think it would work, unfortunately MMA is not that big here believe it or not, small MMA organizations here have tuff time keeping alive. The previous UFC that was in Brazil was called UFC Brazil, and it was the very first UFC that wandy was part of (about ten years ago).
I wish MMA was bigger here, there was a organization called Predator FC which was broadcasted on Saturdays at 6pm on regular tv, but got cancelled after 2 months. If you ask a regular Brazilian who Wanderlei Silva, Minotauro, Anderson Silva, Shogun, any top Brazilian fighter chances are they would not know who you’re talking about. It’s a shame, but these Brazilian giants are mostly known outside of Brazil :(

Who would have guessed the county with the best fighters and where ju-jitsu was created had no love. It sounds like you are there and love it. Does the general public look down upon the fighters like some in the USA or do they just not care? Now I see why a lot of the Brazilian fighters are moving to the USA.
by bnf on May 28, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
bnf, they just don’t care. They don’t look down on the sport as if it was violent or primitive, they really just don’t care (most Brazilians at least, there are many like myself that are die hard fans, but we are a small percentage). If I could make a comparison, I’d say that MMA is just as big here as it was in the USA about 8 years ago, so it’s not really small, but it ain’t big either. Brazilians (myself included) have one sport in their minds that comes before anything else, it’s our religion and it’s called futebol, second biggest national love is volleyball, MMA is way down the list. The public know not to mess with a BJJ guy though, MMA is well known just not followed unfortunately. I wish Brazilians in general could represent, but unfortunately as a whole we do not.

Thanks for the heads up linx. Hopefully it will catch on there like it is starting to here. Like you said, it may be about 8 years behind so who knows what will happen.
by bnf on May 28, 2008 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with Linx but IMO it is a growing sport and it is getting more popular as years go by, at least where Im from in Brazil (Fortaleza). MMA is well known but not followed as stated but if given the opportunity I truly believe it will catch on to the male demographic between 16 to 30. If you look at the amount of fight schools, gyms that include BJJ, Muay Thai, Karate, it is something to be proud of and hopefully if the UFC, Affliction ar another organization is introduced to TV stations or cable it will be accepted by the public and watched quite regularly.

Real Great info Linx!
As for Wanderlei, gotta love this guy! Many of you die hards, were picking against him last week… I did however stay true in believeibng in Wandy and he actually won me some nice cash!
He is 1 big fight away from RAMPAGE! U all know Rampage, Fedor and BJ, Anderson, Shogun, wanderlei, Gomi, GSP are my ACES… As a fan of mma, I would love to see Rampage and Wanderlei fight againm, but I dont want to see Wanderlei loose, and TODAY, Rampage will beat him!
by john on May 29, 2008 8:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I hope you’re right JJ, it sucks when the only person you can get to talk about the fights outside the forums is your dad (my father is another die hard fan).
by linx on May 29, 2008 9:28 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
LOL yes that is true, luckily I have my brother to talk to about the fights lol.
by JJ on May 29, 2008 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The only problem with that scenario is that Rampage only defends his title once a year and I don’t see him losing to Forrest Weakchin Griffin. But I do agree that would be awesome but Machida has only recently beat Soko and Tito. I would love to see Machida move down and fight Anderson Silva! Talk about a technical fight, it would really be hard to say who would win. I think I would have to go with Anderson.
by jimmy_dean on May 28, 2008 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Id love to see machida vs anderson but i doubt it’ll happen coz they are training partners. Thats one of the reasons Paulo Filho is in WEC and not the UFC coz he dosn’t want to fight his training partner.

By “defeat” do you mean “beat the living bejeesus out of”? because thats what wand did. Anyways, yes WE did it because I always knew he’d win eventually. He is still young and losses to CroCop(completely diff weight class), Hendo (he was sick and took the fight in short notice, and i believe him) and a war with Chuck are nothing to be ashamed of. On top of everything he is still young and has much fighting to do.

This is exactly why this guy is my favorite fighter, it’s all about the fans. How many fighters have this have an unselfish atittude like Wand? No other fighter cares about what the fans think about him as much as Wanderlei does. If he thought he had to get in the octagon with a grizzly bear just to make the fans happy he would do it. Wandy is a down to earth, good guy, with a big heart but he is a serial killer in the Ocatgon or ring. Randy needs to take some notes from this guy because Wanderlei thinks about the fans before he thinks about himself and what better fighter is there to be a fan of than Wanderlei Silva. I couldn’t ask for a more humble favorite fighter.

Give him Silva(Thiago) and winner gets a title shot and if the winner in July is Forrest then would be a sick end of the year fight! Wandy is MMA!

Forrest will not beat Rampage. Everyone thinks that forrest is this elite fighter because he beat an injured Shogun. Jardine knocked forrest out and I look for Rampage to do the same thing.
by jimmy_dean on May 28, 2008 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Serra will not beat GSP, Gonzaga will never beat Cro Cop, Liddell will never beat Silva…heard it all before…and I agree that the chances are slim but Forrest has an unbelievable training camp known for putting together great gameplans. O and that shit about Shogun, you were probably saying that Forrest had no chance to beat him either. He was hurt yes, but that does not account for his conditioning and piss poor striking.
by Eric on May 28, 2008 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
actually his inj does account for his poor conditioning witch would account for his striking, its hard to train with no acl.but either way forrest won and he won’t beat rampage(not that its impossible just highly unlikely)
by roy on May 28, 2008 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
when you don’t have a proper knee to stand on, how do you work on your condition? At the end of the day, serra beat gsp, gonzaga beat cro cop and liddell beat silva. This just goes to show that anything can happen in a fight. But what are the odds of that happening in a rematch? serra vs gsp 2 anyone???
by linx on May 28, 2008 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ok guys, enough with the cr@p about Shogun’s injury. Seriously. If a fighter is too hurt to train properly or is hurt enough that excuses are made for a loss, THEN THEY SHOULDN’T FIGHT! A loss is a loss.
by chefdaddy on May 29, 2008 7:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
that’s what I said, a loss is a loss at the end of the day, doesn’t mean it will happen again though. Shogun vs forrest 2, hope that happens so we can shut all you haters.
by linx on May 29, 2008 7:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
loInx: I am with you! Forrest would get Killed y Shogun if he were healthy…U say if he was too hurt to train, so he should have backed out from the fight, But like Wanderlei, Shogun LOVES us Fans, and he was anxious to make his debut, it was a bad decision that Forrest was lucky enough to capitalize on…..
I applaud Shogun more then anything for not backing out of that fight, and putting his legacy on the line, on 1 leg.
Forget the Shogun fight…What has Forrest done?
Lost to Tito (questionable but regardless TITO is GARBAGE anyway…..Not impressive at all
Forrest squeeked out a boring win against hector Ramirez. He was gunshy for the most of the fight, and Ramirez is Garbage!
and he got his Block Knocked Off by Jardine…..
Do I really have to list the people that Rampage has defeated::
Henderson
Chuck 2
Lindland
Arona
Bustamante (former UFC Champ)
Ninja
Dong Sik YOon
Masaate
If anyone thinks Forrest has a chance against Rampage I really feell for you guys. Forrest as a queastionable Chin, Rampage has 1 of the greatest chin’s EVER. Forrest has NO KO POWER, Rampage is ooozing with KO power.
No way Forrest can win….It just cant happen….GSP had a somewhat questionable chin, Serra hits like a mule….But Forrests doesnt have that 1 shot KO Power, there fore he has NO CHANCE of becoming Champion, not unless Rampage shows up with an ACL missing like Shogun did.

LOL, it’s a good thing you remembered the jacob fight john, not even dana white takes forrest seriously. prior to UFC 84 dana would say “who has tito beaten lately? He hasn’t beaten anyone good since vitor belfort” LMAO, and jacob beat forrest after belfort. all these ppl will find out who forrest really is once he steps into the cage with page.
by linx on May 29, 2008 9:22 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Forrest will be lucky to get out of the first round against Page. Rampage is a beast and has a killer instint that Forrest doesn’t have. Hendo went the distance but he has something forrest doesn’t, an iron chin.
by jimmy_dean on May 29, 2008 1:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wanderlei could have beaten Chuck last December…He rocked Chuck and Chuck fell but wanderlei FROZE, let chuck recover and stand back up….He didnt let Jardine get back up….He showed to be much more comfortable in the Octagon and next time chuck fights Wanderlei…Chuck’s going down!
by john on May 29, 2008 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly, everyone forgets that Wanderlei could have finished that fight in the second round. I would put my money on Wanderlei in a rematch.

Man, do I wish he had fought Chuck under his current mindset, the story would have been way different. Anyway, sooner or later the rematch will happen, Chuck will lose, and the Axe Murderer will take away all his fans as spoil.

Absolutely love to hear this from a fighter. I thought I saw him almost cry after the win….it is cool to see a fighter who has that much stake in how he performs.
- A few people have mentioned a re-match w/Hendo @ 205. Am I missing something? Has Hendo committed to a weight class yet? I personnaly would rather see Dan @ 185 just because I do not see anyone else having a very good shot against Silva – although Lyoto looks like he could cut the weight.

Wandy is an incredible fighter, and from what I’ve seen he’s got a good head on his shoulders. Attitudes like his are what this sport needs most.
I just can’t believe how much stock he takes in what internet bloggers say about him. Half of you retards can’t even spell or use correct sentence structure and English is your PRIMARY language!

I find it so funny that one of the most inherently frightening looking fighters in the world is just such a humble and human individual. He is a blessing to the sport of MMA and I know I will tell my children about how he is a true MMA fighter in and out of the cage and we can only hope other fighters can have such a big heart. Wandi, its so damn good to have you back and in the cage! I couldn’t be more happy for him

As Lynx said, here in Brazil we had only Predador FC, which was televisioned by a channel called “RedeTV”. It stopped to air about 2 months ago, but the president from “RedeTV” said to a brazilian forum, that UFC will be televisioned to us. He’s finishing the negotioations with the UFC, and soon we’ll have UFC for free here in Brazil(not PPV, but older events).
I’m a huge brazilian fan of MMA, and I really dont understand why UFC isn’t here yet, a lot of people doesn’t know who is Anderson Silva or Shogun(Wandy and Minotauro is very renowed here, not like Ronaldo, Kaká, but a lot of poeple now they). If the UFC come to Brazil, be sure that one will be one of the biggest events by far.
I’m brazilian and like Wandy English is not my first language, so forgive my erros.

Chuck kicked Wandi’s ass. His face was swollen like he was attacked by killer bees. Oh no, it was just Chuck. I like Wandi he sounds really cool but Chuck is Chuck. If they fight again and Wandi wins I will Praise him and apologize but until then Chuck kicked his ass!
by Brian on May 28, 2008 9:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
the thing about wandy is that he’s been in so many battles that his face took some of the biggest damage in all of MMA (I would think even more so than big nog). He is old school vale tudo, he used to fight without gloves and as a consequence it’s easy for him to get cut. but what someone’s face looks like after a fight is not an indication that someone got their @ss beat, but I agree that the first fight between chuck and wandy chuck definitely won no questions. I hope there will be a rematch, because wandy will be victorious in their second bout.
by linx on May 29, 2008 6:32 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Totally agree. If youre going to look at someones face as indication of whether they got beat then Big Nog would never have won a fight. This would also be the case for the BJ vs GSP fight where GSP face was all cut up and BJ was find but we all know the result there.

Wand v. Machida
Wand v. Rampage
Wand v. Sokoudjou

Wand v. Thiago

Wand V. Rashad
I’m not saying that all these matchups are feasible right now but tell me you wouldn’t pay to see any one of these fights.
