lol..
You would have if you won your fight, but you do gain a little bit for showing up

Didn’t really like BJ’s comment about Huerta. Eventhough he’s 100% correct, admitting he’s not hyped about that fight after beating sherk is disrespectful I feel, to a complete class act as Huerta, not to mention he doesn’t even consider Florian for the win.

With that said, Sherk’s face was scaaary vioelt/black, holy bananas batman!

by Raul on May 26, 2008 9:56 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He is correct though. I am not hyped on seeing him kill Huerta or Florian.

by naturalshadow on May 26, 2008 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nah he did mention Florian as well, he said he was asked by a previous interveiwer,
“if you beat sherk, would it be hard to get hyped for Florian or Huerta? I know I would be”
And Penn simply agreed. Penn is honest and thats good, you dont get that enough, you only get the typical answer, “oh whatever the ufc wants” “oh it doesnt matter to me” I mean at least he lets us know whats really goin on.

Sherk’s a former champ and went toe to toe with BJ, he doesn’t have to prove sh*t to anybody.

by Bane on May 26, 2008 10:02 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

There couldn’t be a better time to pair up BJ and GSP. Both are at the top of their game. This Fitch fight is going to be a joke.

The question is though, does BJ deserve a title fight against George at 170 right off the bat? He’s held it before but the way Dana rolls, he loves both these guys and it’s about money and the fight will provide that.

I just question throwing guys up in and own in weight to fight for titles right away. Maybe he should have a tuneup fight. But the downside is if bj went up and fought, say hughes or serra again and what if he lost…. OUCH. I think he would destroy both of them.

Sean Sherk has nothing. He can roll around and fight the lower end of 155 but he doesn’t have it to be a long term champ.

by tallimeca on May 26, 2008 10:04 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I would like for BJ to wait and fight the winner of Huerta/Florian. There’s a lot of good guys at 155 that are in line for a shot, I don’t really think any of them can beat BJ, but they deserve their chance. Obviously at 170 Fitch is the most deserving of a title shot right now. I Thiago Alves can get past Hughes, then he will most likely be next. Then you got who ever wins between Marcus Davis and Swick, and Koschek/Lytle. So, both divisions are pretty deep with guys in line for title shots. At this point if i were given the option between a super fight between BJ and GSP again or Anderson and GSP, I’d take the Anderson fight. Mainly because I’ve already seen BJ and GSP before. Also I get the feeling that BJ would want it to be a title fight so if he won he would have 2 belts at the same time. All the talk I’ve heard of anderson/gsp is of them meeting in the middle of 170/185 and making it a non-title fight. But maybe that’s just because GSP doesn’t feel comfortable moving up that much to an actual 185lb fight and having Anderson cutting down from 200 or whatever. BJ on the other hand did fight at 170 and he’s fought at 205 before so he wouldn’t care if he had a size disadvantage.

by mattchupichu on May 26, 2008 10:10 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I completely agree with everything you said. The winner of the Florian/Huerta fight would be great to see how he stacked up against Penn. And depending on how close of a fight it was along with GSP vs. Fitch would give us an indication whether or not there even should be a super fight. And if there is, I would much rather see GSP vs. Silva or Silva vs. Rampage (assuming he beats Forrest) than to watch GSP vs. Penn again. I’m not a big rematch fan myself unless it is inevitable (like GSP getting his much deserved belt back from Serra). But otherwise to me, a super fight is one we haven’t seen, yet.

by UFCAddict on May 26, 2008 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You havent see GSPENN yet, not even close, both have come soooo far since that first fight its a joke. Neither is the same fighter and its only been for the better. GSP will have two eyes, for a little while at least and BJ will be in good shape, and there will be two extra rounds to settle it out in plus a belt on the line. This fight will be nothing like the first except for being a great fight, thats all the two will have in common.

by ( (Adam G) ) on May 26, 2008 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

totally agree with Adam G… put gold in the mix and you will bring out the best in anyone… they both came far they are both machines now and have there head straight after big loses…

by LOCAL BOI on Jun 13, 2008 11:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, as much as I would love to see BJ fight GSP again, he should have to defend his title a few times fitst. Probably the most crowded division in the UFC, and more than one person at a time will be worthy of a title shot at one point. I think Anderson should move up to 205 and clear out that division while GSP and BJ clear out thier respected divisions as well.

by Toms Bombs on May 26, 2008 10:13 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Exactly. It would be a lot more fun watching Anderson Silva fighting the much deeper 205 lb. division than the thin 185 lb. division.

by UFCAddict on May 26, 2008 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Anderson move up to 205 and clear out that division Toms Bombs… 1 problem………rampage……

he will be giving up 25-30 lbs… guys at 205 walk around at 235-245… while he is walking around at 210… you guys who think he should go up to 205 are jokes… he hasnt bet anyone yet but hendo… give hendo some more cage time and he’ll whoop silvas ass….

mark my words… polisih it .. hang it on your wall and frame it….

by LOCAL BOI on Jun 14, 2008 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

sherk showed some heart and had a littl better stand-up than most thought. other than that he just showed that he cant compete in the upper level(losses to bj,gsp, hughes) and is who we thought he is. hell they brought back the 155 weight class for him pretty much. i dont think sherk was ever serious about winning this fight he just didnt want to get embarresed. im sure hes hoping that bj does move up to ww to fight gsp. he can hang w/ just about any other lw. i would like to see him fight grey maynard next.

by b.w. on May 26, 2008 10:22 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I kinda lost some respect actually. It was stupid to just stand there and eat jabs and not do anyhting to try and change that.

by c-war on May 26, 2008 10:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m glad BJ won, although I did pick Sherk to win. I expected Sherk to do more of his “thing”… it simply didn’t happen. Superb win by BJ.
Regarding the future..
> BJ should not get a title shot right away at 170. The division can stand on its own for a bit without people moving between weight classes.
> Great pool of talent at 155 that deserve their shot. They should not be denied by BJ fighting in other divisions.
In a year or so after each having a couple of successful title defences it would be MONSTROUS for GSP and BJ to get it on again.

by DJ on May 26, 2008 10:36 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Great comments guys thanks. But while I agree in theory that BJ should fight the winner of Huerta vs Florian, the fight should happen now while both are on the top of their game. And if BJ wins great! We get a third match, if not move back down and fight at 155.

oh shit nvrmind, looks like “Daddy” is on the 86 card against Tibau! Still, as much as i dislike Sherk, you know they’ll hype the hometown thing and put him on the 87 card…how bout matching him up against Clementi and his 6 fight win streak??

The New BJ. BJ has discovered that the key to success is discipline…I dont think there’l be any stopping him now

With all the lightweight talk – what about Diaz and Manvil? Those guys have pretty much walked thru everyone – no? I think those two should be near the top.

What, no ones talking shit about BJ Penn . . . ???? Im baffeled! HAAAAAAA! Bitches! Cardio this, cardio that . . . STFU! NOW WHAT?!? Sean Sherk lovers, nothing to say today??? GORD! PJJ! NATURALSHADOW! Talk your shit now. “Sean Shek, ya KO’d!”

by ( (Adam G) ) on May 26, 2008 1:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I never said Sherk was going to win, but I did say I wanted him to win. I would still want Sherk to win if they had a rematch. I am a Sherk fan. Still, I knew Sherk would be a long shot to beat Penn, unless he could get him to gas early, which he didn’t do.

That being said, even though I never said Sherk would win, I will state right now that if B.J. fights GSP, GSP hands B.J. his ass. GSP is every bit as talented as Penn, and is faster and stronger.

by naturalshadow on May 26, 2008 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Easy there Adam. I seen Bj in a 5 round boxing match with Pulver before, we already knew he could go 3 rounds standing. The fight never hit the ground. Just because I though Sherk would win, doesn’t mean I like him, or even wanted him. I’m glad BJ won,now we can see him fight GSP again. There is no shit to talk about BJ, I think he is an exiting fighter. It’s his fans that get me going. Why was the fight stopped? Did I miss something, it was the end of the round and he had a minute to recover. Did Sherk punk out, or what? They never said anything about it,except that BJ said it was over.

Now all the kids know that cheaters like sherk who take steroids will eventually get their asses kicked by real fighters like Penn.

What, no ones talking shit about BJ Penn . . . ???? Im baffeled! HAAAAAAA! Cardio this, cardio that . . . STFU! NOW WHAT?!? Sean Sherk lovers, nothing to say today??? GORD! PJJ! NATURALSHADOW! . . . What happened to your boy? “Sean Sherk, Ya KO’d!”

lol

I said that too in a previous thread………where’s GORD??? lol

I actually have a lot of respect for Sherk, I actually felt sorry for him.

He is not the first nor will he be the last to take roids. He shouldn’t be the ONE in the firing line.

Wanderlei was rumoured to use them and everyone loves him.

Sherk is getting too much of a hard deal about this and the matter should now be forgotten with lessons learned. He doesn’t deserve to have his fighter’s career cut short which is already a very short career.

I hope Sherk bounces back.

by Automation on May 26, 2008 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

WORD! Andhe showed he has something else in his bag of tricks besides take downs and lay n pray . . . Some decent standup. Banged with BJ for 3 rounds ya know. He should use his standup more often even if he can take a guy down with ease so his appealing factor will go up, he’ll gain fans (new and old) faster if his fights are exciting. If not people wont care about the steroids anymore but still think hes boring in the octagon. He has a chance to restart his career (for the last 4-5 years of it) if hes more exciting and funner to watch it will say a lot about the steroid issue (he’s better without em or never took em) either way the BJ fight said a lot about him . . . And BJ. He takes a punch with that Hawaiian volcanic rock skull(but always had an unbeaten chin)!! He looked fresh throughout the 3rd round (bouncing/hopping around in between punches)(using footwork etc) and was running all over the place when the fourth round would have been going on had Sherk continued so i dont think cardio is an issue anymore (and who else besides GSP and better is gonna make it past the 2nd round anyway man LoL) Oh, and his jab hurts and he can thow a hell of a lot of em!! BJ BJ BJ!

yea i kind of feel sorry for him too but i hate on everyone vs Penn… what he did to florian made me happy. sherk vs serra could be a good 1.

Same here.

I’ve never really liked Sherk but he just stood there like a moron eating shots the entire fight.

by Patrick from Boston on May 26, 2008 2:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sherk proved he can’t fight. I lost respect that he got his ass KICKED after all of the talk he did.

by twist on May 26, 2008 4:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sherk didn’t have to prove a damn thing to me.

I WILL ALWAYS BE A BIG FAN!

The man always shows up to fight and is more than prepared to take out any other LW that comes his way. Looking forward to see what his future has in store for him!

by Cool Hand Chad on May 26, 2008 7:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sherk is a GREAT WARRIOR. His only disadvantage is the fact that he has SHORT ARMS. He was just as fast as BJ I think and he performed very well. Again, he has very short arms which makes it harder for the punch to reach. THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE JUMPING TO ANY CONCLUSIONS. Give the guy a break!!!!!!!!!

by mmafan on May 26, 2008 8:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He does have the arms of a T-Rex. haha

by naturalshadow on May 27, 2008 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, Id like to retract some things I said about Sherk,I feel sorry for the guy. He’s gotta feed his family too. But maybe Sherk should have THOUGH ABOUT IT BEFORE HE MADE CONCLUSIONS, dont talk all that crap if you cant back it up.“TO BE THE CHAMP,YOU GOTTA BEAT THE CHAMP” You know, stuff like that.

by WESTSIDE/OAHU on May 30, 2008 2:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs
