Clay Guida vs Mac Danzig UFC 87 fight inked

Clay Guida (23-9) and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 winner, Mac Danzig (18-4-1), are set to go toe-to-toe at UFC 87: "Seek and Destroy" at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 9.
"The Carpenter" finished Samy Schiavo via technical knockout at UFC Fight Night 13 back in April, winning via stoppage for the first time inside the Octagon since October 2006. He has been haunted by judges decisions during that span even though he had -- in the eyes of most onlookers -- done well enough to earn the victories.
Guida seems to always be involved in exciting fights win or lose -- his three-round war with Roger Huerta at TUF 6 Finale was epic despite being forced to tap via rear naked choke in the final frame.
Danzig defeated Mark Bocek via submission (rear naked choke) at UFC 83: "Serra vs St. Pierre 2" in April. It was his first UFC win at 155 pounds after defeating Tommy Speer at TUF 6 Finale to earn the 170-pound crown for the season.
This should be a nice little scrap -- both of these fighters have a ton of experience and talent, as well as bring it every time out.
UFC 87 features the main event between 170-pound world champion, Georges St. Pierre, and number one contender, Jon Fitch. To check out the developing card right now click here.

Clay is no joke and it is far better
than Danzig fighting some jobber.

this should be a good fight, but guida has the edge in experience. shouldn’t be too difficult for the carpenter.

Should be an awesome fight, I’d have to go with Guida by decision. I can se him outworking Danzig but not finishing him.

This should be a good one. I know john will be happy to see Danzig fighting some top competition finally lol. Guida definately has the edge when it comes to fighting top guys and experience in the Octagon, but it’s not like Danzig is a push over, I mean he’s been in this game for a long time as anyone should know just from watching the show alone. He’s got his fair share of experience, and he’s been in the big shows a couple times before. I’m still going to have to go with Guida on this, think he’s too big and strong for Danzig, just will have to watch out for a gillotine when he’s shooting.

Do all you guys saying that Guida has the edge in top guys expiriance, realize that Danzig fought Mach Sakarui in Pride?
That already means that Danzig has fought a better opponent then Guida has ever stepped in the octogon with.

Anomaly, please do not forget that Clay Guida went 5 rounds with Gilbert Melendez and lost a relatively close decision. Danzig did fight Mach at PRIDE 33 (when Hendo KO’d Wandi and Diaz sub’d Gomi, HOLLA!), and he got KTFO in the second fround. I have seen many Sakurai fights and many Melendez fights. I think that Melendez is the better fighter of the two.
WIth that said, I like Danzig in the fight, especially if he is somewhat of a small underdog. Guida only has octagon experience over Danzig. Someone had said Guida will be much bigger. Not really. Danzig is actually an inch taller, and appears more solid than Guida. Danzig has fought at higher wieght classes (WW). I could be mistaken, but I don’t think that Guida fought his whole career at 155. When he first started out, does anyone know if he was 145, 155 or 170?
Thanks!

Tells you what the UFC thinks of Danzig… tremendous upside to this lad. Having said that, he has probably never faced anyone like Guida.
by DJ on May 26, 2008 10:40 AM EDT reply actions
Once again, wrong, Danzig has faced Mach Sakarui in pride, making Guida at best the second best fighter Danzig has faced.
Ill tell you this, Guida has never faced anybody as good as Danzig has faced in “Mach”

Wow, really shaping up to be one of the best cards of the year. Sherk may be added too!

This fight better be televised. Guida seems to get the shaft and gets put on the undercard a lot which i don’t understand because his fights are always exciting. I’d rather see him than Kongo fight thats for sure.
by SpiderStyle on May 26, 2008 11:16 AM EDT reply actions
why would they put a TUF winner on the undercard? the only time one has been is when sanchez lost 2 straight. guida by decision, but danzig will lock a very tight choke (probably a triangle) at some point.
but yes, Kongo is boring, and Guida should be on every main card. if he would’ve fought all of Huerta’s opponents and not the ones hes got, he’d be nearly undefeated in the UFC. not trying to take anything away from huerta though…

Guida is going to be too much for Danzig in this fight.

I hope Guida chokes Danzig unconscious and shoves a hamburger into his self-righteous mouth.

Almost any other possible Danzig match up in this
division would be a squash match so I’m glad
that he will fight someone who can compete with him.

this has the makings of a great one. it better be televised!

Awesome, can’t wait to see Guida fight live again. He’s one of those dude’s I would pay to see fight regardless of his record. He brings it every time. Should be a tough fight.

This should be an awesome fight and an awesome card. I think the Carpenter will carve Danzig up. I can’t wait to see this one.

danzig! i thought they would have put him against lauzon but i think danzig will win by submission!
by machidafanclubprez on May 26, 2008 2:54 PM EDT reply actions
This should be good, I give it to Danzig. Guida is just stuck at the same level while others are improving. But look at Danzig slowly but surely climbin up the latter. BJ will probably have to smash him as well pretty soon here

Nice!! This card is turning out great. This is gonna be a huge test for Danzig.
