Tito Ortiz on 'crashing' UFC 84 press conference (Video)

tito ortiz

Props: Yahoo!Sports.com

Quoteworthy:

"We both need some serious counseling. I don’t know if we can make a deal. We need to talk it out some place and talk with each other like grown ups. It’s hard for both of us."

UFC president Dana White responds to the UFC 84: "Ill Will" post-fight fiasco that surrounded former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" was apparently asked to leave, left, and then returned at the insistence on girlfriend Jenna Jameson.

Check out the video after the jump for Tito's side of the story.

Mac Danzig vs. Clay Guida has officially been booked for UFC 87: seek and destroy.

This will be an amazing match up!

by john on May 25, 2008 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I lost one fight last night, and it was arguably one of the most boring fights (besides last minute) I’ve ever seen. How you like or enjoy watching Machida fight John, I will never know. Hope you didn’t parlay too much with Penn under. I was so hoping Tito locked in the triangle/arm lock attempt. Did you hear all the hints??? Tito WILL BE BACK WITH THE UFC!!!!!!

by kevin on May 25, 2008 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nah I ended up just betting Penn straight for $400

My bets are listed below…..Great fights + Great pay day = 1 helluva saturday night!

So far for Big strong Tito takling machida down….LOL what a joke!

Thisa is the last time I am going to tell you guys that the Matt Hughes equation for mma success just not work today with all the well rounded mma fighters. That equation is:
Big and Strong + wrestling = a win in mma! Never again will this equation work!

I am without a doubt a genius at prediction fights. 2 days ago I posted these predictions on another thread:

You guys want the picks? Here they are.

Bj Penn wins via rear naked choke after mounting sherk in the 2nd round.

Wanderlei will win by 1st round KO in the 1st 90 seconds of the first round

Machida wins, not sure how, but I am sure he will win. If I had to guess I would say decision or third round TKO

Soko by either early TKO or a decision

Gouveai (safest bet on the card besides BJ Penn)
will win by another Brutal KO early in the 2nd round

Tiago Silva wins by KO in under 7 minutes and 30 seconds: Unders

WarMachine will win his fight savegley

Clementi wins via 1st round submission

Upset special jason Tan defeats the new Korean sensation

Carwin via early round 1 0r 2 via Ko/TKO

Rousimar Palheres, I promise you will defeat Ivan Salvaerry…This is an absolute LOCK….Trust me bet Rousimar…He will submit or TKO Ivan in under 1.5 rounds. Rousimar and the unders…You can take that to the bank

I bet anyone that 75 percent of these picks will win.

I have decided to bet everysingle fight on this card straight, I will also bet a few Parlays with the winner/overs or unders.

by john on May 25, 2008 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My actual bets for last nights event:

$400 on BJ Penn WIN
$200 on Machida WIN
$100 on Wanderlei and 48 parlay: Wandy/unders Both WIN
$200 on Sokoudjou
$150 Tiago Silva $24 Parlay Tiago/unders
$50 Carwin and $24 parlay Carwin/unders
$100 Palhares and $30 parlay Palhares/unders
$25 Clementi
$25 Tan…LOST
$100 on Gouveai (I claimed was the safest bet lol) Lost
$25 Warmachine…lost

I am RITCH B**CH!!!! Dude I won a fat sum of money last night While watching the best UFC event that I have seen in a long time…I really might after to start selling my picks..lol I am thinking of Changing my screen name to: " john The MMA Prophet" lol

by john on May 25, 2008 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

dude your a tool. The bet you claimed to be the safest lost and you predict guys to win by either early tko or decision okay you got a pretty good chance at hitting one of those. You are by no means a prophet you just predicted what was very obvious if you follow mma at all.

by SixT-4 on May 25, 2008 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

GSP for prez: u r just a hater trying to rain on my parade. I pick 80% winners at almost everysingle event and I have the balls to actually bet on all the fights I predict. Hate all you want….

Forget my predictions, look at my actual bets and then try telling me that those picks were not impressive…. Hate on lil boy! lol

by john on May 26, 2008 8:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

8 out of 11 is pretty good. That being said it wasn’t too bad a card to pick the winners. I don’t bet but if I had to pick winners I would have lost out only on Koppenhaver and Jason Tan. I was telling a friend that Reljic was the real deal and he would win by decapitation. Well I didn’t get that exactly right as Reljic himself was almost stopped but he got the W nonetheless.

Fair play for betting on your picks. How much did you make off the betting?

by RobH86 on May 25, 2008 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If it is true that jardine only got 10k then there is something seriously wrong with the UFC. the fighters should organise a union to ensure that every one of them has medical insurance paid by the UFC before they are allowed to compete.
this will all come to a head sooner or later and i believe the fighters will eventually get a much better deal in the future but…all the top fighters need to take a stand now not just for themselves but for every other fighter.
Tito has drawn attention to a serious issue and all this publicity may well backfire on dana white. the fans support the fighters, not the organisation. UFC beware.

Machida almost pulled off a (starnes) baby kicks, jabs & running. Machida was so boring that the ref. fell cause he was falling asleep. I’ll give Machida the credit for winning though.

by JV on May 25, 2008 2:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

LOL your right, I HATE TITO, but last night I was routing for him big time. Its just too bad he couln’t finish off Machida with the triangle choke. I cannot stand Machida, I respect him and all that, but his style is boring, he couldn’t even finish Tito who was laying on the ground almost out after that knee to the body.

On another note, Jenna and Tito are 100% right about Jardine….I’ve been to the hospital for a catscan before and it set me back about $3k….so lets do some match..Jardine got $10K for the fight – taxes (about 33%?) – hospital visit $2-4k? Doesnt leave him with very much. Dana wouldn’t say how much they were paying Jardine on the side, but AT THE LEAST, I hope the UFC is covering his medical expenses. He got KO’d BAD! I hope hes alright.

I’m pretty sure the UFC pays for medical bills. I could be wrong, but I thought I have heard several fighters say that now.

You guys aren’t smart fans. Machida is mad exciting to watch. His evasiveness is so high level that its beautiful. He just goes by the idea that defense comes first. You hate on him but it will be a long time before he gets beat if he keeps fighting the way he does.

by EazyEismydad on May 25, 2008 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

How can you say that they are not smart fans? Just because they don’t find Machida’s style exciting? I have trained in some form of martial arts for over 15 years, and have been a fan of mma since the beginning, and in my opinion. I think he is realy boring to watch too. It is just my opinion though. As for him not losing for a long time, that I disagree with. He was almost submitted last night by Tito. I don’t see him winning fights against the top tier fighters in his weight class. I think Wandy would have crushed him last night, as well as others.

by naturalshadow on May 25, 2008 3:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

by jdawg on May 25, 2008 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Machida is trying too hard to keep that perfect record. Winning decisions isn’t what this sport is all about. Back in the day it was great when there was no time limit and guys like Machida were forced to get down to business. It’s one thing to win a decision ala Chuck/Wandy, both men tried to finish the fight. What Machhida does is just cowardly!

How anyone thinks Machida is exciting to watch is beyond me. You guys should have your heads checked.

Wandy for president!

by batstimpy on May 25, 2008 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

his “elusive” style is better suited for karate fans who want to see fights won on points. i don’t want see this in MMA, it’s boring to watch. i don’t see the beauty in running and then throwing non effective strikes. i pretty sure that those fancy low then high kick combos were not hurting Tito,he could have taken those kind of kicks all day.

Anyone hear his excuse for not finishing his sh!tty tringle attempt? " I never really through up submissions in a fight, blah blah blah" HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, tito got owned in that fight, couldn’t take him down, took thirty leg kicks, and got droped, lol. What a sorry sack of sh!t, Oh and tito competed in adcc of course he knows submissions, he just sucks at it.

The UFC pays for the medical bills if they know that the problem occored during the fight. I can guarentee they payed for Jardines bills and they did pay for when Starnes got stiches for his cut, just not when it got infected beceause they said he didn’t take care of it properly

by DB on May 25, 2008 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

couldn’t agree more, I was so hoping tito’s triangle/arm bar was tight enough. Tito should have pushed more in the 2nd after losing the first, but Machida (who some say is elusive) is simply boring!!

How could anyone think that Machida’s fight was boring? That fight was awesome. yeah. i know there is more technique and skill to machida’s style. but give me a fucking break. the “im elusive because i back up for days until you have to attack me wildly” style is bullshit. maybe he should get into boxing. i hear there’s a huge market for that. or he could fight starnes is a cage that has a 4 mile diameter. that way they could both practice run-kune-do.

This highlights the dark and unproffesional side of Dana White. Tito, who tried to fight, won’t be back but Machida, who was “Elusive” all fight, will be back and may get a title shot at some point in the future. I guess Machida says the right things ’cause he may be one of the most boring “good” fighters out there.

Dana, grow up.

by Freddy on May 25, 2008 2:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Tito wants 1/3 of everything the UFC makes. He’s a fucking moron. How greedy is he? He has one of the better contracts in the UFC, gets a ton of money in endorsements, and is dating a rich celebrity. And he claims he won’t have enogh money to pay his rent when he retires. He is a greedy, greedy man and will most certantly get what is coming to him down the road. Plus the guy wants 1/3 of the UFC’s money when he really hasn’t done anything in years. Since 2006 he has won 3 fights, 2 of them to Ken Shamrock, big deal, and won a fight that most agree that forrest was robbed and should have got the decision. So as far as I’m concerened he has won 2 fights in 2 years both to Ken Shamrock. News Tito you’re not in anyones top 10 and you don’t deserve the money you’re making nonetheless the 1/3 of the money the UFC makes which is rediculious.

tito you dnt deserve the money your not in anyones top ten…. uuuumm hes in my top ten along with alot of others.. db you must have just started watching the ufc in like 05 right.. tito has beaten some of the best lhw’s and lost to a few of the best..

tito helped put the ufc and the sport of mma on the map and helped to make iyt as popular as it is.. tito ortiz has bought a shit load of money and fans to the sport.. and to the ufc events he stil holds three of the biggest selling fights in history for the ufc.. yes new fan he does deserve the money, and you couldnt hold a candle to the althlete that tito is..

a real fighter will win some and lose some but still keep trying.. so just based on the fact that tito has been a major player in the successs of mma yes he does deserve the big pay check ..

I don’t understand the slave comment Tito made either. The guys buying your PPV’s at 40 bucks a pop making 10 bucks an hour are slaves. Keep Tito out of the UFC!

That was soooo’ apparent, Tito takes a back seat to her when they were discussing White. Tito should stop referring to himself as a ‘good businessman’ and just ‘do good business’ I’m getting sick of hearing that over and over.

However, Tito did hit the nail on the head, when he said bonuses should just be in the contract and not at White’s discresion, that’s way too controlling… Jardine’’ 10K… fucken’ A’ Bob. refuckin’dicilous….

what is jenna titos lawyer or something? Im sick of hearing how she is such an awesome bussiness woman. Oh well at least shes not speaking out about politics. I feel bad for tito that RR phantom he had in the countdown was like a 2006, COME ON DANA the guy cant afford a 2009 for his 30 minutes in the octagon a year? Something has to change.

by alexguy on May 25, 2008 2:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You are missing the point. Tito gets his money outside the UFC mostly. Also, most of the issue is about the smaller fighters who make near nothing in return for risking their safety.

by EazyEismydad on May 25, 2008 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It is what they have to do to work their way up the ladder. Tito makes his money outside of the UFC but the UFC has given him the stage to make himself profitable. It is up for the fighters to come through for themselves when given the opportunities. It’s the fight business, not the handout business.

by PJJ on May 25, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Everyone wants to whine about what the smaller fighters are making… Boo f’n Hoo. Undercard fighters in MMA are paid better than thier boxing counterparts. If you want to make big money you have to win big fights, and thats exactly how it should be.

by BadVibes on May 25, 2008 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

to bad vibes..bad argument.low level boxing fighters receive lower pay because there are more of them in that category.read boxrec.com and see how many boxers are there world wide….what Dana is trying to do is compare the low end UFC fighters and the low level boxing fighters.the comparison should be mma fighters in general(all promotions) and that of boxing.remember the lowest paid boxers are 4 rounders—with no pro fight yet..and he’s comparing it to UFC low end fighters….which i checked had a lot of fights already….bad comparison..deceitful…and how many fights would low end mma fighters have in a year in the UFC? One or two?at 3 t dollars to 6 t dollars a year?? crap thats darn low!!!
De la hoya gets 50 M .2007 mayweather got 50 M in 2007..manny pacquiao a 130 lbs boxer got 6 M in 2007…and would get around 15M this year…tito trinidad got 8 M with his fight with roy jones. jones got 2M in one fight..mosely gets around 3 m..hopkins(Boring)gets 5m..HELL they re going to pay lennox lewis 40 M just to fight klichco

but if you argue with the top level fighters how bout the boxing unknowns…heard of michael katsidis? NO.. hes a 135 from australia a world champ got 350,000 in his last fight….nobody knows him but he gets more than randy HEAVYWEIGH COtoure..

dont compare the 250,000 than wat most people make because fighters get around 10years to earn a living while a regular employee can work 45 years..so i fighter should earn a lot more….it would be hard for them to find employment ater they retire because they would be too old…early retirment is what they deserve..also dont forget the fact that 250,000 is gross payement—- you would have to pay 30 percent in taxes and 10 and percent for trainers and 10 percent for mangagers and pay sparring partners and other training expenses like food and suplements (2 months training) so they would be left around 80T to 100T…pretty low

by borat on May 25, 2008 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

U know what??… lets compare it on it’s own merit…screw the boxing comparison.. Keith Jardine should be taken care of… period… he’s a rising fighter… he’s got a name, he deserves more than 10 fuckin K. The fact bonuses are not in the contracts and Dana White dishes it out at his discretion, is a way of controlling fighters and contracts, it’s a dick power move.. on the other hand ‘extremely shrewd’… I’ll commend that on business merit and what White’s doing what’s best for the company…

However, I wanna’ see the little guys win this one!
better pay for UFC Fighters.

I understand that but it seems as if Tito and his lady or just about getting there money. She is trying to do for his career what she did for her own. Honestly at this point he seems to be on the decline he hasn’t won a fight out of his last three. That gets some of the youngers guys off the UFC a lot quicker. He stills has brand name recognition, but if he continues to lose whose gonna buy?

I don’t know why there’s so much hate against Tito Ortiz?

The guy comes to fight, he may trash talk to hype fights…but in every post fight interview – he’s respectful of his opponent and is a true professional.

He may not win like he used to, but, name me a pro athlete that doesn’t slow down with age? Its like a guy that puts 10 years at Microsoft wanting a raise for helping build the company, and the filthy rich boss pissing on the idea because loyalty is traded for younger, cheaper workers.

Couture talked money – Dana black balled him
Tito talked money – Dana black balled him
Arlovsky talked money – Dana black balled him

Who’s next? Gsp? Penn? Rampage? A Silva?

If the UFC black balls fighters and reduces the fighters to a bunch of “yes men” bitches how can we trust the integrity of the sport? With that kind of integrity how can we even trust referee decisions? Dana is just the bitch of his bosses, who really pulls the strings here? All this from someone who has never been a Tito fan!

I’m brazilian and I’m very patriotic and I always like to see a brazilian fighter winning. You can say all you want about Machida, and I agree that he’s boring, but it’s simply almost impossible to understand how he fights and how he moves. It was using that same style that he knocked out dead Rich Franklin and submitted what many of you think it’s the next big thing, Sokoudjou. He even got Tito down, As long as I remember the only fighter to ever control Tito on the ground was a very scary and talented fighter an one of the best of all time named Randy Couture. Machida is a karate fighter with unbelievable talent and he made Tito Ortiz his bitch. He is the next champion, mark my words

The only way this can change is if the players go on strike. But if the strike is to work then it has to be led by the guys on top who are getting paid a lot of money. The organization can’t continue if its stars say they wont fight until the low end fighters can make a living. However, that would take some selfless stars. Also, it would just mean the organization would get thinner because it would cut people to make up the money.

by EazyEismydad on May 25, 2008 3:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They need to unionize before they can strike….and that’s exactly what they should do.

I’m sorry but to say Jardine is working his way up the latter when he already KO’d Forrest (who’s getting a title shot) & beat Chuck (one of the best champs ever) is total BS! There’s no way he should only get 10k for that fight.

by TonyDrip on May 25, 2008 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah also doctors deserve more money too. And lawyers. While your at it our politicians could use more money as well. What is this bull they are getting paid enormous amounts of money. They know the risk they are taking but the fame and quick cash is worth it to them. This is how this sport will become as corrupt as boxing. These guys are going to start getting Jenna’s to always demand more, and its embarrassing to complain about it to the common folk who pay 40 bucks a ppv to see this. What about the cop or firemen who actually risk their lives? They get paid shit, this is just a load of bull and I can’t stand Tito, get him out of the UFC!

Dude, you’re talking apples and oranges. When do cops or firefighters generate almost $4M in one night?

I agree they deserve more $$, but it’s not relevant for this discussion. If you want to compare fighter to someone, compare them to other professional athletes that generate that kind of $$ – NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR.

by TonyDrip on May 25, 2008 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

By the way $4M doesn’t include PPV. These are the guys putting their bodies on the line. They should get a fair share. There’s plenty of $$ to go around.

Tito lost to a better fighter, plain and simple.

Tito has become irrelevant. Dana is completely justified in wanting this guy gone from the UFC. Tito is all but done as a top tier fighter, as evidenced by his last several fights, saved only by his defeats of the “awesome” Ken Shamrock. Next time Tito should let his fighting do his talking – I know I for one would prefer that over listening to his usual BS.

I really hope the UFC never get’s back into the “Tito Ortiz business”.

Sorry burst your bubble, but Machida whooped Tito’s a**. He’s the fricken the man!

By the way, if Tito ditches Jenna, he might be able to pull out the “V” sometime. Obviously, he hasn’t won a fight since they hooked up… LOL. Good luck Tito- your okay man.

Now Tito can make his money the same way Jenna did by making his genitalia into a pocket pussy.

by sycboi on May 25, 2008 3:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Its hard to argue that Tito knows what he’s talking about. I mean do you think Wanderlai is really going to say he’s not happy, when he’s got a wife and kids back home in Brazil to provide for? On another note..Machida played his game to a T last night…he’s got a great style, but his style is more about winning points. A kick here, a Kick there, a quick jab..it works on the scorecards, but it is extremely frustrating to watch as a spectator and as someone who fights myself. If that were PRIDE, how many yellow cards would’ve Machida got in that fight?
For anyone who says Tito doesn’t have heart, he does. He fought to the very, very end in a fight where he easily couldve just given in. I gained a lot of respect for him after that.

by dakilla on May 25, 2008 3:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

True. I don’t think Machida will ever get a title shot, unless he starts to actually fight his opponents. 3 rounnds is hard enough to watch, 5 would be cruel to the audience. No one wants to see him run away from Rampage for 25 minutes.

Tito didn’t do anything either, you act like it was machidas fault you FUKING NUT HUGGER, If jacob would have thrown an accurate punch we would have seen a fight, stop making excuses for a crapppy fighter, he sucks. all he did was shoot from a very long distance, and get tossed away like a bitchh.

Jardine wouldn’t have to pay for his medical bills in the fight. Fighters have to cover themselves for injuries incurred while training. But otherwise it is on the employer’s time so it is on the employer’s dime. Legally, it is a worker’s comp issue.

Jenna needs to shut it. She is an idiot.

Tito and Machida both did absolutely nothing in this fight. Tito looked like Ken Shamrock. I cant stand Tito and I’m glad I never have to see him fight in the UFC again. Jenna needs to STFU. It’s obvious Tito is her bitch.

Stagger-Lee’s, Sunday Summary

Last nights fight’s were awesome..I thought the card turned out better then expected!..

Melendes/Silva.
Good fight, while it lasted. I had money on Silva, and he came through..Melendes almost landed that high kick at the begining and had me worried..Silva composed himself well and showed his determination to win..Silva looked like a mad man when he snapped and took the fight directly to Melendes..I love it..

Ortiz/Machida.
This fight was boring at times, but I still enjoyed watching it, as the fight still had some entertaining moments..At the end of the first, Machida showed how fast he is, and also while being a very “technical” fighter he WILL try to end a fight if the opportunity arise’s.. Lets face it Tito is a hard fighter to finish in 3 rounds, and Machida had him on the edge twice..Tito did impress me aswell, with his triangle to arm-bar attempt..
As much as I dislike Tito..’If I only watched UFC? I would probably be saying I want Tito to get re-signed, BUT I watch all MMa promotions, and am actually looking forward to see where Jacob lands, and his next fight. because he will DEFINETLY not be fighting for the UFC..

Gouveia/Reljic.
Damn. I am so pissed that Wil lost..Goron looked decent in his UFC debut, but I still didn’t see to much(aside from his kicks) that impressed me..
Wil had him dazed, and couldn’t finish him off. So that tells me Reljic is tough aswell as having “quick recovery”. I mean Goveia had him, and Reljic came back Leban style, all pissed off, and caught Wil in the temple then banged him out…For people that were saying Wil can’t take a punch?..He got banged on like 10 times, while he was dazed, and still didn’t go limp..I dont think Gouveia will get cut from the UFC just yet. And as for Reljic?.. I see alot of hole’s in his game, and(imo) it’s just a matter of time before a top fighter expose’s them…

Jardine/Silva.
Do I even have to say anything??..The AXE-MURDERER is back!!

BJ/Sherk..
haha. I am so glad that fight is over. Now BJ can get to fighting Top competitiion…
Like I said before BJ .vs. Sherk = easy win for BJ…
And it was just that..Sherk had no chance..Sherk was scared to shoot, just like I thought…It was almost like BJ was playing with him…(imo) It look like BJ wanted the fight to go to later rounds to shut people up about his cardio…BJ could have finished Sherk whenever he wanted to…BJ only left himself with the stand-up option’s..imo in the 4th BJ would have taken it to Sean 100% and finished him…But BJ had him dazed and knew, if it was there? take it!…so he did…Sherk got KTFO!!

All around great card, and I am glad we got to see 9 fights on the ppv..I only bet on the 5 ppv bout’s and went 4right and 1Gouveia wrong!..won myself 600 bucks…Could have been 8, but I lost 200 on Wil..
sorry my post was mad long..probably a million spelling mistakes..but this is to long to spellcheck.lol..

Sometimes it’s easy to criticize a fighter based on his style. He may have not knocked Tito’s bollocks out like Wandi did to Jardine but he is very, very hard to figure out. He is an odd opponent to anyone. You have to chase him around the octagon and while you are doing that he is gonna be hiting you with some kicks and punches and scoring points. It’s awfull to watch but it’s perfect to stay undefeaded. He won’t lose anytime soon

I personally like watching Machida. I never know when he’s going to strike it’s always so lightning quick, he lulls you to sleep with dance lessons and then he jumps in for the kill. Really talented fighter. He’s so much smaller than Tito and others that he’d be crazy to not use his speed to avoid takedowns and punches. He just uses his strengths to exploit others’ weakness. Tito should have been training for that.

by dave on May 25, 2008 4:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

how many guys do you see landing a liver shot w/ the knee. no easy task, he almost stopped tito w/ that one. nobody said machida was boring when he beat soku. styles make fights and he fought the perfect gameplan to defeat tito. lets see who he fights next. if its a striker, everyone will say he's exciting again, if its against a lay-n-pray wrestler he probably look boring but will probably win.

I’m just laughing at all the children out there posting how “bad” of a businessman Dana is. Note to self, never let those people run a business if they are going to do the opposite of what Dana does. and Machida/ortiz was FAR from boring. I could watch 3 hours of Tito getting frustrated, and looking like those down syndrome eyes in the middle of that yellow bowling pin he calls a head are going to squirt streams of salty sadness all over the octagon. Priceless! Machida’s level of speed and awareness on his feet are amasing, and btw its hard to be called running away when you are facing your opponent and landing strikes. Also, Jenna is so war-torn tito has to bust out the defib paddles just to get her going. besides he should be arrested and charged with sexual misconduct with a cadaver.

You people are so out your hoops. these lower level fighters are on average, making more than lower level boxers. Also, Tito and Randy need to stop talking to Hollywood and realize that most movies lose money because of overpaid talent. I love reading all the comments on business from people that work at McDonalds and Wal Mart. Not saying that Dana is great at all. Dude needs to be waaaaaaaaaaaaay more behind the scenes than he is. Machida is brilliant. He never looked in trouble. Even in the worst triangle attempt in recent memory. Machida via decision over everyone.

Machida is a good fighter but is pretty boring to watch. He may deserve a title shot but in this weight class I don’t see him winning shit. It’s too stacked, and if he can’t beat a ‘tito past his prime’ he has no chance against the top contenders like Griffin, Jackson etc…

It’s two different sports man. You’re comparing apples to oranges. That other stuff you’re talking about is simply market expenses. You have to advertise or people won’t watch. You have to have production for people to enjoy watching. They’re simply paying market prices. Right now the market price for fighters is cheap.

The price of oil didn’t go up until it became a shortage. CHina and India started drinking it all up, so there’s more people wanting it, so the price goes up. Same with fighters. No one is entitled to a certain quality of life in real world. You people all live in fluff land.

It appears that Tito, however good a businessman is, doesn’t understand economics (as do most of you).

You get what you want in this life. I choose not to be a cashier at Mcdonalds because I don’t want the pay. I don’t get a job there and cry “pay me more” because there are people desperate enough to do it for the offered price. However, when there’s a shortage of people to hire, or there are more and more competitors hiring the Mcdonalds cashier, then Mcdonalds is forced to pay more because if they don’t the cashiers will go to the competition for the better money. The other option is to do something else with their life. It’s a simple fact of life that some jobs pay poorly because there either isn’t a lot of competition, or there are many other fighters anxious to get a spot in line.

As Affliction and the others build steam, UFC will be forced to pay their fighters more. Until then, it seems that their philosophy is to pay them as little as they can get away. Vive America! That’s the country we fight to protect. Accept the reality. Tito should start another fight company and pay them more.

No one disputes what Machida does is effective. On the other hand its not entertaining. We want fighters who are explosive and agressive. The passive jab and kick and then run half way across the octogon before repeating isn’t fun to watch. I mean we’re not holding these contests to have some sort of binding determination of who can beat who in a fight, they’re being held because they entertain people. You don’t entertain, people don’t show up at the gate or tune in to ppv. How many people are going to buy a PPV with Machida headlining it? He went out and made Rashad Evans look electrifying.

In my opinion, Tito had the aggression and the octagon control in that match. Machida ran away, and yes, that means he was elusive. Adding in that last-minute triangle, Tito should have qualified for something other than a 30-27.

Granted, Machida is a tough guy to figure out. However, he is very bad for business. Ortiz is the opposite.

Dana White was probably pretty upset to hear the chants of “Tito” ringing out every few minutes…so, here’s to hoping that they can both work things out.

Really? He was shooting and completely missing. I’ve never seen punches miss by so much! And every fighter backs up and avoids punches the way Machida does. He never actually crossed his legs over in a full out sprint like Starnes did! Did we see the same match? Machida had that match under his thumb!

by dave on May 25, 2008 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I actually tend to agree with Axe Grinder. While I agree that Machida won the match based on scoring, were I a judge I probably would have awarded the match a no decision. You can call Machida elusive all you want, I call that fight boring as hell…

by BigRedOne on May 25, 2008 11:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I really don’t understand the people that keep saying that Machida is boring, blabla. He’s a true martial artist, and this is Mixed MARTIAL ARTS, folks. Have you ever heard of Bushido! Wait until your opponent takes a first step, THEN capitalize

Machida’s takedown, striking, and submission defense was TOP NOTCH, and it’s not like he didn’t strike at all, for those that are making stupid comparisons to Starnes. Tito’s eye was busted up before Machida had eaten his first punch in the whole fight.

And do you even realize how much Tito was saved by the bell at the end of Round 1? PLEASE, watch the fight again, and then come and tell me how many times you’ve ever seen Tito Ortiz tied up and eating fists like that!!

Machida is part of the new breed of MMA fighters. Learn to live with that, or go away and enjoy Kimbo.

I agree completely arodofiron. All the kids that knocked the cheetoh crumbs from their mullets and crawled out of their trailer to call machida boring are still getting semis in their sweatpants from tank abbott highlights. Machida made a mockery of tito. apparently avoiding a great wrestlers takedowns and landing shot after shot in the process is running.

Not sure if anyone else already brought this up, but did anyone else here Mike Goldberg call Wandy “The Ice Man”? Cause I sure as hell did.

Im so tired of hearing ppl bytch about spending the 44.95 for pay per views. We all know that more than likely there is going to be a lackluster fight. Thats just part of the game. If you dont want to spend the $$$ for pay per views, then how about pooling people together and dividing the cost of the pay per view amongst others. Or better yet going to the local hooters or bars or whoever has it in your area that doesnt have a cover charge and watch them for free, while using that 44.95 on food and alochol….. So please quit bytching about you wasting your $$$$ on a lackluster card, or fight, when you can watch them for free……

I really enjoyed watching Tito lose. What happened to your clever T-shirt after you Lost? Not so cocky eeh? How come a guy who can obviously kick ass has to always remind everyone how tough he is? Tito has the mentality of an insecure teenage girl.

no doubting machidas good but if he’s the f4t4re the 4fc are in trouble, like watching paint dry. the fight was interesting due to tito only.

I really want to know just one thing Tito did that was even merely exciting, aside from a triangle that he couldn’t even hold well enough to finish.

by ARodOfIron on May 26, 2008 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Personally I think that Machida out classed Tito due to being a superior fighter. If he tried to pull that kind of thing with Andersson Silva; Machida would be knocked out within the first round. Its simple, get close to Machida and then do him damage, if you can’t do that then maybe you deserve to loose.

by Holdin_Ropes on May 26, 2008 6:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

thiago silva is the one you machida lovers should be talking about not defensive machida, i hope chuck or shogun go up against machida, then we-ll c what hes made of. thiago silva v rampage after he owns forrest

I actually thought the fight wasn’t that bad. It was the wrestler trying to take down the karate guy. Last minute was classic! I can’t believe how mant people are complaining about Dana. The UFC just gave you an awesome card and yet you talk about Dana. Maybe some of u should stop watching MMA fights and watch more reality TV.

other than a couple of highlights like the knee to liver and the failed sub attempt at the end the rest of the fight sucked. lyoto’s “elusive” style = boring win by dec.

if this were under the pride rules Machita would have been given a yellow card and lost 10% of his money for running the hole fight yea he won but it was like watching boxing hit and run no chance of finishing Tito mma is all about finishing. i would not want to see the sport go to this type of fighter and fighters should loose points for running. we seen about 2 minutes of action in a 15 minute fight. Machita fought the last 30 seconds of round 1 and 3 and we didnt even get that much out of 2 i give him credit for the other minute for hitting tito as he is running away. Machita needs a new nickname the running man

maybe the Bakersfield Butcher, the guy Arnold Swartzneger played in the Runnning Man.

by the Levi on May 26, 2008 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know how anybody can watch Machida fight and compare him to Kalib Starnes. It’s not like he was running backwards while Tito was trying to punch him. He was moving side to side creating angles for his kicks, and staying out of shot range so that he wouldn’t get taken down by a wrestler. He’s actually very offensive, while being too elusive to get punched much. His offense isn’t Spider Silva, but it’s not Chris Leben either where he’s just going to come forward until either he or his opponent gets KO’d. Maybe some people who haven’t trained in a martial just can’t see how good this guy is.

by UFCAddict on May 26, 2008 10:30 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Most of the people complaining should disconnect their redbull filled IV’s and enjoy the skill. It takes a moron to believe that he was running. He was only backing out of the way of punches. The same thing every fighter does except he’s way better and quicker than every one else at it except for GSP. GSP doesn’t get critisized about it though because he’s a wrestler and he’s generally bigger than his opponents so he doesn’t have to be so patient.

by dave on May 26, 2008 11:22 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Even if you exclude the wrestling, GSP is still a lot more active than Machida. He’s a slow starter sometimes, and he counter-strikes, but he also established his jab and throws kicks with power.

OK, I use to love Tito probably more then anyone I know. Was at one time the only reason I watched this sport. But seriously. It is time for him to put on the pants in this relationship. I am sure he loves Jenna and everything but is it just me or is anyone else here or around the country getting tired of Jenna sticking her nose in this business. Jenna is porn no doubt about it, and a great business woman. I also believe in women standing by there man, but at no times do you see there women making post fight interviews for their man. Seriously, this sport, UFC or whatever, is about the fighter, not there girlfriends or wives or whatever. Dana has made some huge mistakes and so has Tito, but one of Tito’s biggest in my opinion, is letting Jenna be so voicerous in his career. Grow a pair dude. Seriously, Stop letting her take over your interviews, your decision making, and in the end your career. And sorry Jenna, darling you are great in the porn business, but this isnt porn, please sit on the die like everyone else’s wives or girlfriends and look pretty and cheer your man on, but also like everyone else woman, please keep quiet in the puclic about your opinions for this business. No one is taking there clothes off in this one to make a bucj, they are fighting to do so. SO unless she is headlining the mext card, I really dont think she should have a say so whatsoever. She and she only is making me lose all respect for Tito a man that I think could be the face of any promotion out there. But at the same time, when hiring him, kind of like Barry Bonds and his baggage (enterouge) that he brings with him, dont think every promotion out there seeing him bringing his baggage with him…..
