UFC 84 weigh in results for Penn vs Sherk PPV event fights (Video update!)

The official weigh-in event for UFC 84: "Ill Will" at the MGM Marquee Ballroom in Las Vegas, Nevada, has concluded. And it certainly had it's share of memorable moments.
In particular, former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz -- in more than likely his last appearance for the promotion -- is not going out quietly as expected. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" donned a t-shirt the read, "Dana is My Bitch," referring to his nemesis, UFC President Dana White.
It was no coincidence that White was not present at the festivities. Regardless, Ortiz will have one last opportunity to take a dig at White when he takes on Lyoto Machida tomorrow night.
Expect something even more over the top.
Here are the official results:
155 lbs.: B.J. Penn (155) vs. Sean Sherk (155)
205 lbs.: Wanderlei Silva (205) vs. Keith Jardine (205)
205 lbs.: Goran Reljic (205) vs. Wilson Gouveia (205)
205 lbs.: Tito Ortiz (205) vs. Lyoto Machida (203)
205 lbs.: Thiago Silva (205) vs. Antonio Mendes (203)
185 lbs.: Rousimar Palhares (185) vs. Ivan Salaverry (185)
205 lbs.: Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (204) vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura (206)
155 lbs.: Terry Etim (155) vs. Rich Clementi (155)
170 lbs.: Jon Koppenhaver (170) vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida (170)
170 lbs.: Dong Hyun Kim (171) vs. Jason Tan (170)
265 lbs.: Shane Carwin (252) vs. Christian Wellisch (230lbs)
*Note: Fighters are allowed to weigh one pound more than the division limit in non-title fights.
Remember that MMAmania.com will also provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night, which is slated to air at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday, May 24.
Of course, the latest quick updates of the prelim bouts will begin to flow earlier than that at around 8:30 p.m. ET.
It's going to be a sick night of fights ... check us out for all the pre, during and post-fight coverage you can handle.
Check out the vids after the jump.
Here's the bit with Tito and the t-shirt:
Here's the entire weigh-in (note that the t-shirt has been edited out):

Anybody else torn between who they want to win on the Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine fight? Iv’e been a Silva fan since way back in the day and I’m not huge fan of jardine but it would be nice to see jardine show that he can consistantly beat the top fighters and have a title shot.
by protecvideo on May 23, 2008 5:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
There are some great fights on this card that have been completely overlooked by everyone! Also, a few promising fighters will be making their debut and we have overlooked them completely, such as:
Submission Machine..Rousimar Palhares (Brazilian)Middleweight
Dong Hyun kim….The Korean mma star
TUF Animal WARMACHINE is fighting his first fight since the TUF Finale and no one has even mentioned it.
Carwin, the promising Heavyweight is also fighting, but he has got some attention.
Also, Dont sleep on Antonio Mendez….I feel bad because he is being thrown to the wolves in his 1st UFC fight by having to face the MONSTER Tiago Silva….Win or loose he is a great addition to the UFC roster.

You want Silva to lose and go down to 185 with Jardine getting the next 205 title shot.
by Rumbler on May 23, 2008 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
thats what i want to see, but it its a shame this fight has to happen, if we want to see both ‘the dean of mean’ get his shot, and then Silva get a shot at AA! one has to loose and then that will put one of the fights out :(

I’m more of a Wanderlei Fan now that he’s speaking English’ I can relate better to his personality… Wanderlei’s entertaining and always brings an exciting fight. Jardine,a tough guy clawing his way up the ladder, I got a ton of respect for him. Houston Alexander put a monkey wrench in his rise to the top ranks, I think he would beat Alexander 8 out of 10 times. I don’t want to see either of them lose but…
Jardine is going to beat Wanderlei, unless Wanderlei gets a KO.

Jardine took how many shots from Houston? Silva took how many shots from Henderson? Jardine took several hard shots from Liddell also, so his chin is just fine. They both have great chins. Jardine will win though.

Here is a chance for everyone to put their money where their mouth is, without spending any money that is. Just copy and paste the three match ups listed below and reply to this comment with your take on them. Now everyone can put down where they stand so that after the fight they can say they stood with the winner or took on the winner and lost. Also please don’t do any of that if it goes past the third round deal, we know this kind of stuff and thats the point of making a choice… Where do you think it will go, can Penn finish him fast or is Sherk going to take a beating to give a beating? Here’s my thoughts
B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk
Winner Sherk by 4th round GnP
Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine
Winner Silva by verbal submission in the 2nd (striking)
Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida
Winner Lyoto by 1st round TKO
Don’t forget to actually bet some money on these fights, there are some huge odds but all of these fights could definetly go the either way, looking forward to tomorrow

Heres my bets so far
Vandy/BJ reverse 80
BJ/tito reverse 80
BJ staright 300
Red sox money line 100
Also going to put money on:
BJ under
Tito/Machida over
Going to red sox/ A’s game, and a little disappointed, I thought Beckett was pitching! Damn it..guess I’ll deal with wakefield. Look for me, I’m 6 rows behind boston dug out, with the hot latin wife!!! Have a great week end guys, enjoy the fights!!!!!

If the Axe Murderer is the old fighter from Pride (which may have been a Roided-up version- which we may never see again)- he can stop Jardine quickly- it would be a carbon-copy fight of the way Houston Alexander tore through him. Quick punches in bunches, knees. I think Jardine does well w/ taller, longer, slower Light Heavies like Forrest, Bonnar, and Liddell- but has trouble w/ shorter, quicker-handed fighters like Houston & Wanderlei.
If Aggressive- Silva in the 1st.
If tentative/counterstriking Silva, then Jardine by Decision. Hopefully it’s the former- but I like both fighters.

Mania can you post a link to either ESPN.com’s video of the weigh-in or NBCsports?? I am on both sites and I just cant find a link to the weigh-ins. I hate this! I wish they would do a better job of advertising the video. Why do they make you search all over for it?
by Anthony on May 23, 2008 6:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
dude this is so fucking dumb?! I can’t get any of the video links to work on UFC.com, I can’t find links on any of the other sites and therefore I’m unable to watch the weigh-ins!! WTF? does anyone have a link that works?

Forget Yahoo and ESPN. The weigh-ins are never where they say they’ll be and they never work. I can’t imagine paying for the event on Yahoo when they can’t stream the weigh-in.
Try MSN.com.

what a wimp for not showin up on stage. thats your company! stand up and show your not scared of shit! kind of a copout move by Dana.
by DefyTheEye on May 23, 2008 7:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think maybe Tito should worry about Machida and last I checked, he backed out of a fight with Dana. Besides, his whole “feud” with Dana is coming off a little too much like professional wrestling to me. It’s embarrassing for the sport.
by jhc on May 23, 2008 7:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m not much of a Tito fan, but that shirt got a laugh out of me. As far as backing out of the boxing match with Dana, I think we can attribute that to financial greed as much as anything; Tito just won’t do anything for free.
I can agree that the whole feud is pretty ridiculous, but I think Dana is the one most to blame for that. As a CEO he should be taking the high road, setting an example if you will. Instead he seems to have a preference for diving right into the mud, maybe he has a trailer trash background he just can’t shake. Whatever the reason, I think his lack of professionalism in dealing with the press, his competition, and his own fighters is the greatest source of embarrassment for the sport.
by Scott on May 23, 2008 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Totally agree Dana is starting to be more and more like Vince McMahon. Hopefully the fights make up for it loks like a bunch of good fights. But all the hype makes it a little crappy.
by Fightinroundtheworld on May 23, 2008 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i think someone said on this site that dana is a wannabe fighter… he talks smack and acts like a fighter… except he hasn’t got the b*lls to be one… so rather than fighting a good fight he talks a good fight… gotta respect tito for the t-shirt… i know a lot of people hate tito… maybe deservedly so… but we’re seeing more and more big name fighters unhappy with the dana now – AA, Sylvia, Couture, Ortiz, Fedor (though he never joined, but it was Dana and UFC’s restriction on his right to breath air that made him walk away)… chances are others would complain too but are too afraid to.

Smart move by Dana. Tito goes through the trouble of wearing the shirt thinking Dana would be there to view it himself. Dana avoids the whole deal and everyones forgets about the shirt by tomorrow. Big deal a shirt. It would have been cool to have Dana surprise his ass from behind the curtain. Over hand right=Tito KTFO

Dana was being the bigger man by not going out there (IMO). He knows it is money time and stayed away to not shift the focus away from the real fight. Tito needs to focus on Machida and quit worrying about Dana. Hell, Dana probably did him a favor by not being there so Tito will look across the stage and say, “Oh yeah. That is the guy I am actually fighting.”

breaking news:
MMAWeekly.com has confirmed that Heath Herring has agreed to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 87 on Aug. 9 when the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its debut in Minneapolis, Minn.
Lesnar was originally slated to face UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman in the main event of UFC 87. Coleman, however, suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in training, which will sideline him for at least six weeks. He was forced to withdraw from the bout with Lesnar due to the injury.
Herring has been on a roller coaster ride since his UFC debut in January of 2007. The former Pride heavyweight title contender has gone 2-2 in the Octagon, most recently defeating Cheick Kongo at UFC 82 in Columbus, Ohio.
Lesnar had a less than stellar Octagon debut, losing to former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir via kneebar at UFC 81 in Las Vegas earlier this year.
With the withdrawal of Coleman, the UFC acted swiftly, signing a new main event bout with welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, fresh off winning the title at UFC 82, making the first defense of his second reign as champion when he faces No. 1 contender Jon Fitch.
Roger Huerta and Kenny Florian will also square off at UFC 87. The bout, according to the promotion’s president, Dana White, will likely decide the next contender to the UFC lightweight title being contested on Saturday night at UFC 84 between current champion B.J. Penn and former champion Sean Sherk.

You beat me to it kama kaze….. I was thinking the exact same.
Before I posted though, I copied Sherk’s pictures from last nights weigh in and UFC 73 weigh in. There is a definite difference.
At last night’s weigh in, Sherk struck his pose with added determination. Almost as if he was trying to prove a point. Well I think he failed.
You can definitely see the difference. At UFC 73 weigh in his muscles were fuller and rounder, more pumped.
I think someone is missing some juice
