Anderson Silva vs Wanderlei Silva UFC fight possible 'in the future'

Props: MMAWeekly.com
Quoteworthy:
"Maybe it's possible after this fight to fight at 185. The guys in my division are much tall, and it's hard. The guys are stronger, but I've fought in the division many times, many years. Here, the guys are much stronger. Maybe I'm going to fight next time at 185. I don't know. As long as they have good opponents for me at 185 too, maybe next time I go down. I don't know.... It's hard to go down and fight the champion. I need to fight other guys first. I trained with him a long time ago. We are friends, but a job is a job and friends are friends. In the future maybe it's possible to fight with him."
Wanderlei Silva shares his thoughts on a potential drop to 185 pounds after his light heavyweight bout with Keith Jardine this weekend at UFC 84: "Ill Will." He wants to stay at 205 pounds and challenge, according to the report, "UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson for a third time and a rematch with Chuck Liddell;" however, he is not against a potential showdown with "The Spider" if things don't go according to his plan.

He definately should drop down to 185, win or lose.

I hope he stays at 205, there is just much better match ups in the LHW division. being such a big fan of his, I just want to see him get revenge on liddell.

At this point in Chuck’s career, I am not sure we will see a rematch. If there was though, I don’t see the outcome being any different. I would however love to see if Wandy still has Rampage’s number or not.

There is so much talent @ 205 right now, especially young talent (Lyoto, Thiago, Forest, even Rampage), that it will be pretty tough for Wandy to ever get a title shot. 185 is not nearly as talent rich at the moment. I would like to see Wandy win against Jardine and go down in weight anyway. Then, rematch with Hendo with winner getting a title shot? That last fight with Hollywood was outstanding, for sure would like to see that again.

I would really like to see that too.

How is fighting Anderson Silva a solution to fighting big, tall guys?
by Luke on May 23, 2008 4:08 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That would be an awesome fight. Silva vs. Silva. I think Anderson would win. As much as I’d like to see that fight. I’d love to see Rampage avenge his losses.

Man, Wanderlei really seems out of a winner’s mindset in his last couple of interviews. The tone with which he’s said “I NEED to win this fight [against Jardine]” right up until the pre-fight conference, sounds like he’s almost sure he’s going to lose.
I really want Wanderlei to win tomorrow, but he’s not showing he has the focus…

Could you imagine if these two locked up in the Clinch. Big time strength of both of these fighers, now that would be exciting….

I will root for Wanderlei, but a loss would be exciting because he would drop and I think it would add some much needed depth to middleweight.

I like Wanderlei but I’m not buying that LHW are much bigger in the UFC crap. He had no problem going toe to toe with Mark Hunt and Fujita and they’re bigger than they guys he’s fighting now. Call it controversy or whatever but the reason he was nasty aggressive in Japan was because of the scooby snacks. He doesn’t and hasn’t had that same nasty aggression since his first fight back in the US against Dan Henderson.

give him a few fights inside the cage to get used to it, I’m sure he’ll be much more aggressive as times goes by. the liddell fight was his first fight inside the octagon, he’s probably more used to it by now having fought three rounds and I’m sure he’ll give jardine a run for his money. Silva is on his way back to the top! silva vs page III!

I don’t see the big difference. He started his career in the octagon, and his transition to the ring was easy. I thought he looked comfortable in the cage, but he was fighting a tough opponent.

he started in the ring, had 3 fights in the cage, and went back to the ring. he was always confortable in the ring, and his cage fights were more than 10 years ago.

yes i totally agree.. he was smiling and stuff when he fought chuck, not the same killer instinct wandi had fighting in Pride. I think if he loses this fight and drops down to 185 they should give him a fight they think he will win before he is fighting big names.. just because he needs to get a win and its also gonna be his first fight at that weight who knows what shape he will be in.. personally i think Alessio Sakara would give Wanderlei a hard time with his boxing but that would be an exciting matchup

Imagine Wandi vs. Rich Franklin! That’ll be a dream fight. Their styles are great for an exciting fight.

Wanderlei at 185 sounds great, and devastating!! But, i personally just don’’t think its right to have a fighter in a division whose champion he’s beaten TWICE!!! Not only beaten, but destroyed!!! It’s just not right!!
I’m not saying he would destroy him a third time (something i doubt really much), but i just think Wanderlei and Rampage have to go at it again. I mean come on!! Even Rampage wants that fight, and have the chance to avenge those losses.
So, i don’t know, even though i like this quote, and it sounds like a very interesting matchup, i hope it doesn’t affect the possibility of Rampage/Wanderlei 3, which i think, if he looses come Saturday, might never happen.
PS: even though i like Keith a lot, I’m hoping for a win, then Rampage, and after that then maybe the drop. It would be sad to see him drop and never fight Rampage again. But i suppose who knows how things might end up or work out…

well this is a suicide fight for wandy if we go back five years this would be a really good fight but in present time
anderson would murder wandy in a standup fight and in a ground fight

Linx – Wandy had a few fights in the Octagon a number of years back. He is on the receiving end of one of Vitor Belforts highlight KO’s.

i would love to see wandy destroy anderson even though i think he’s past his prime…i don’t like anderson anymore
by matt on May 23, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
if wandy moves to 185 who is he gonna fight besides anderson anyway, nobody else in there can compete with him ,unless hendo stays at 185 other than that wandy will be another rich franklin beatin evryone besides the champ

youll kick more ass

i think it would still be an awesome fight if it was fought at catch weight of 195 non title match.just klike when Hughes Fought Rocye at 175. this fight should happen soon.because right now other than Okami no one else deserves a title shot any time soon.plus a win against Anderson would make a 3rd Wanderlei Rampage fight much more marketable.
