Marcus Davis: On the road to UFC 85 Mike Swick fight (Part II)

marcus davis irish hand grenade
Hey everyone I’m back.

I just finished the last 24 days of training camp at Sit Yod Tong with Mark Dellagrotte to prepare for my upcoming fight with Mike Swick at UFC 85: "Bedlam" at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7.

Going in to camp I tipped the scales at 190 pounds. I am currently moving between 182 to 179 depending on the time of day. I got loads of sparring in and worked a lot with my teammates Jorge Rivera and Keith Florian. I also did strength sessions with Kevin Kerns and boxing with my old boxing coach, Joe Lake.

Between MMA, boxing, grappling, plyometrics and weight training I found myself doing three to four sessions a day. I only took time to eat, sleep and train ... seriously.

I’m currently back home and I’m tapering off and training at my gym -- Team Irish MMA -- in Bangor, Maine.

Mark Dellagrotte has come up with a great plan again and it’s just up to me to execute it on June 7th. You will see the strongest, fastest Marcus Davis yet. All and any support is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Marcus Davis is a top welterweight contender in the loaded UFC 170-pound division. The former professional boxer is perhaps the most improved mixed martial artist ever to emerge from the TUF series, compiling a gaudy record inside the Octagon (6-1) since the show wrapped in 2005. He is currently riding an 11-fight win streak, which he will put on the line against Mike Swick at UFC 85: "Bedlam" at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7. He'll detail his preparation for the bout right here at MMAmania.com with frequent updates. To check out more from Marcus at MMAmania.com click here. hopefully we see the old swick because if he doesn’t come out swinging he wont be able to hang with Marcus, I dont it will take these guys any longer than a couple minutes to settle this one.

dude, the photoshop color halftone filter blows, please don’t use it. ever.

as for this fight, i dunno…swick looked so terrible in his last fight but then again he competed and did well at 185 and was pretty damn fast at that weight. now that he’s cut down to a more natural weight i can’t help but think he’ll be even better. davis on the other hand has really looked nice and i think the most impressive thing is he’s cerebral, cuts nice angles, throws great hands, and his ground game has looked very good. should be a good fight…i pick davis by decision.

I am such a big Fan of Davis. This guy truly gets it! Its a shame he started at such an old age….could you imagine if he started doing this at like 22 years of age….My god, he would be a MONSTER by now. I dont think he is lying either, I really expect to see the strongest, Fastest and Sharpest Marcus Davis that we have ever seen.
I can not see Swick winning this one. Swicks going to get his Bell Rung Fo sho!

Absolutely John! I don’t see how or where Swick can end this fight. I standing Swickatine is about all I can come up with…

BoDog has the odds to this fight up, and the odds are even, -115 apiece. I am already placed my early bet and am fully aboard the Marcus Davis bandwagon, who else is with me?

Thanks for the heads up VM….I will head over to BODOG to place a little early action on Davis, before everyone else bets him and causes the odds to jump up!

I am definately riding shotgun on the Davis bandwagon!

VM: I forgot to thank you for the link to the CBDollaway’s fights….All I can say is WOW!!! Talk about a star in the making!

Your welcome John! CB is the real deal!

And DEFINATELY get some early money in on Marcus Davis. I knew you’d be glad to hear that the odds opened at EVEN. Can’t ask for any better than that. Can you imagine Davis being the underdog? I picture these odds changing very quickly to at least -135 for Davis. I usually don’t bet when the lines first come out, but I had to jump on this one, as well as a few bucks on Jason Day. He is more of an underdog than Tupperware was!

This fight will be over in the first round. Well see how good of a chin Swick has. The only chance he has is on the ground. Marcus Davis TKO first round.

by WENDELL on May 23, 2008 8:57 AM EDT reply actions

i dont know bro… i’ll say davis by KO in the first round lol!

by CBfighter on May 23, 2008 9:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Agree. Davis by Severe Murder. Probably one of the best in the division.

LET’s go MARCUS!! woohoo! you fricken rock!

The funny thing about this fight is that Swick moved down to 170 because after he faced Okami he didn’t like being the much weaker fighter. Well… I think it’s safe to say that he will be the much weaker fighter in this fight. Even at 170 Marcus Davis is probably at least as strong as a 185 Okami. On top of that, he’s quicker, and has heavier hands. After this fight, Swick may decide to go back up to MW.

Nice. I can’t wait to see Marcus smash Swick. He’s quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters. Him and Demian Maia. lol

Davis TKO stoppage in the 1st.
