Houston Alexander vs. Eric Schafer UFC Fight Night 15 bout in the works

Knockout artist Houston Alexander (8-3) will return to the Octagon against Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist, Eric Schafer (9-3-2), at UFC Fight Night 15 on Wednesday, September 17, according to a recent WICombatSports.com message board post from Duke Roufus.
No location or venue was mentioned for the light heavyweight tilt at this time.
Alexander will look to bounce back from back-to-back losses after bursting on to the UFC scene with back-to-back wins. His last time out at UFC Fight Night 13, James Irvin won their fight in just nine seconds with a highlight reel, fight-ending technical knockout that was set up by a sensational Superman punch.
And prior to that, Thiago Silva took down "The Nebraskan Assassin" at UFC 78: "Validation" and pounded him out en route to an impressive stoppage.
Schafer, too, is on two-fight skid inside the Octagon. However, he's put together two consecutive wins outside the eight-sided cage to earn another chance back in the big show. In his most recent appearance inside the Octagon, "Red" was stopped by Stephan Bonnar via technical knockout (strikes) at UFC 77: "Hostile Territory" in October 2007.
Stay tuned for more updates and fight announcements regarding UFC Fight Night 15, which will reportedly serve as the lead-in to the season premier of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 with coaches Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir.

Houston needs a win if he wants to stay in the UFC. I hope he wins, seems like a good guy.

About time! Houston needed to get back to his own level (C level fighter).

Houston Alexander is fighting? QUICK, everybody bet your money on the Under!
If the fight stays standing for more than a minute, I expect Ravishing Red to get KO’d and leave the octagon looking dumber than he does in that picture up there. However, if the fight goes to the ground, I see Alexander getting submitted, fast. Don’t see this fight going past the first round.

Yeah the unders of a HOUSTON Alexander fight are going to be locks!! Like VM said, neither fight can survive 4 minutes in the others element, meaning “Ravihing Red” (lol gimmie a break) cant last 5 minutes standing with Houston, and Houston can go 5 minutes on the ground with anybody…..So I wont even waste my time predicting the winners. Instead I will just lay a big chunk of change on the UNDERS!!!!

Schafer just got his black belt. Last time Houston fought a jitz fighter he got TKO’d badly.
Schafer by rape choke.

Josh neer will also fight on this card against an unNammed opponent.
by john on May 22, 2008 3:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m taking unNammed via TKO in the second.

F that. Nate deserves a Top 10 opponent. Lauzon already got a shot at Florian. And the last time I checked, Nate Diaz was the LW winner of TUF.

I would really like to see Nate Diaz fight Lauzon.

i wouldn’t
A. had joe been more successful on the show they’d have fought already
B. I like em both a lot and don’t want either to lose any upcoming fights

yeah and had Joe been more successful he would’ve got a Top 5 LW before Nate Diaz who won…oh wait, he did get that.
I like ‘em both, but it’s fighting. It would be a great clash of two young guns.
LET THEM FIGHT!

a rematch with Joe dady Stevenson would be cool. the Dentist won a dec. against Joe Daddy on fight night2 at 170 , after the fight when Josh had the mic he said they should do this again at 155.the Dentist has to earn a shot at Nate Diaz.

Red is a stud. He just got his black belt from Pedro Sauer, so if Houston thought Thiago was tough to handle on the ground, prepare for nap time.
im call it as arm triagle, round one.

Unless Houston can finish it immediately. It’ll hit the ground eventually, in which case he will get submitted or tko’d. He does seem cool and like a good guy though, but I could see him getting clipped standing again. Shall be interesting.

Shafer will immediately take him down and sub him.

i think alexander will knock him out quick but if shafer gets it to the ground it is over, what is with the fight nights being annouced, we still have aug and sept in atlanta to get some bouts

You always know a Houston fight is going to end in a knockout; The only question is whether it’s going to be him or his opponent that gets KO’d.

funny how quick things change, just a few months ago everyone was on houstons jock lol. now after those 2 straight defeats, absolutely no one has any faith in him (which i dont disagree with). now, either he just believed his HYPE waay to quickly, or he just got lucky he hadnt faced any guys with bjj skills. well see how he responds on his upcoming fight.
by blah on May 22, 2008 4:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i was one of those guys, but not anymore cuz i truly believe that he threw the fight vs irvin. that 1 punch 9 second KO was fake. if houston gave you 1 free shot at him, do you think you could lay him out like irvin supposedly did? much less with a superman punch?
by kama kaze on May 22, 2008 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
what a freak show….an overgrown guy who can knock anybody out (and be knocked out by anybody) against a retard bum….this should be good.
by Chadx23 on May 22, 2008 4:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
you mean knocked out artist houston alexander. Mr. “i wasn’t out”.

I have seen both fights outside the UFC of Reds…the last one he just beat the guy till the ref stopped it. He is on a mission to finish fights… you also have to remember he is a Black Belt in BJJ and is training Kickboxing with Duke Roufus…. he is not that uncomfortable standing…and Alexander just got knocked out in seconds flat!! Go RED… and the picture is all personality!!

I want to like Houston, but the dude really hasn’t shown anything but a puncher’s chance. Once he goes in there and actually gives us some ground game in a 3 round war, then maybe I’ll start to support the guy.
For a guy that hits so damn hard, he sure does have a glass chin.
by Cool Hand Chad on May 22, 2008 5:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Win or go Home for either of these guys. Schafer was told to go back to smaller orgs to fight, and he did, and he won. Now he has to beat Houston to stay in the UFC.
Houston needs this fight badly, or he is going to either the WEC or Elite XC or somewhere else.

Being from Milwaukee I’m very biased, but I will be betting it all on “red” too bad only fans from Wisconsin know that this guys a stud.
by Rumbler on May 22, 2008 5:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He is a Jitsu stud. But other than that.
WRONG.

i really can’t see red beating him on the feet. everytime i see him he looks out of shape. mind i hope he stands with him, cause no one knocks people out like houston in the ufc. you could literally flip a coin on this one tho.

for those of you planning to bet Alexander/overs …
in four fights inside the octagon, alexander has spent 5:22 fighting in four fights, or an average of a minute and twenty+1/2 seconds. Karo Parisyan has an average of over 12 minutes per fight, over 9 times as long as alexander’s average fight length in his 11 fights in the ufc and 1 with wec.
Fun facts brought to you by a bored UFCmn89

Both of these guys should be happy with the match-ups they got. Come on Houston! Eric Scahfer has a bitch nick-name.

I feel bad for Houston, getting KO’D again free on Spike.
by Robert on May 22, 2008 7:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Houston should train hard at defense and his boxing.. than this will be a easy ride, shaefer is a quitter i believe Houston will get a couple of shots in and then Schaefer will want to be somewhere else.
by RoB on May 22, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Damn, this could be another terrible fight for Houston. If it’s on the ground, he loses again. Houston really needs to get a ground game. And if it’s Neer vs. Diaz i don’t know about that fight. Scary fight for Neer, but he was doing decent against Nate’s brother Nick. So i would like this fight, just don’t want to see either lose.

Redneck?! If only you knew him. He is far from redneck.

i think he went up after the bisping fight. which is kinda strange considering most fighters go down in weight when they come off a lose
by shinbob on May 23, 2008 1:21 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Schafer has always been at light heavyweight.
by Hefty on Sep 1, 2008 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’ll be rooting for Houston. I don’t think Schafer will be able to take Houston down.
by Spawn on May 23, 2008 9:20 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’ll be pulling for Ravishing Red. Seriously, anyone who doesn’t take themself so seriously that they have that kind of moniker is a cool dude. You guys ripping his nickname must be donks.
Ravishing destroyed McDonald, led for most of the Bisping and Bonner fights, and from what I’ve read has made short work of all opponents in his smaller stage fights.
Alexander’s only hope is a quick KO. If it goes to the ground it will be over in seconds.

all schafer has ta do is grab a leg and the fight is gonna be over quickly!!…GOODBYE HOUSTON…good luck in WEC or Affliction fuckin baby
