Anybody know when this fight took place? Was it very recent? OR is it an oldy?

by ViolentMike on May 19, 2008 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone is interested as to when this fight took place, it JUST happened this past weekend on Friday May 16.

The following is some copy/paste work:

While serving as a guest referee at the May 16 Legends of Fighting event, Carter witnessed an eight-second double-knockout in a bout between first-time pros Tyler Bryan and Shaun Parker.

“My first thought was ‘holy [expletive],’Then my second thought was that someone needs to get in here and make sure the guys were OK.”

Bryan and Parker were both making their professional debuts at the event, which took place at the 8 Seconds Saloon in Indianapolis. Just seconds into the fight, they simultaneously connected on right hooks, and both were instantly knocked out.

Luckily, both guys soon awoke and were OK. In fact, Carter was downright baffled about one post-fight conversation.

“It was actually kind of amusing to me because one fighter’s father was trying to tell me his son was OK to continue (fighting),” Carter said. “I was like, ‘Your son just got knocked out, and his opponent just got knocked out. It’s over.’”

In just three days, various clips of the already-legendary fight have been viewed nearly half a million times on the video-sharing site YouTube.

While Carter knows that the two fighters have secured their place in MMA history, he just wishes the fight would have happened on a bigger stage.

“I felt bad for them honestly,” Carter said. “I felt bad for both fighters because you and I know that if that fight is on pay per view in the UFC, that’s a Fight of the Night bonus and Knockout of the Night (bonus). That’s money that could change their lives. … I just wish, for them, that it would have happened in a bigger show.”

Carter actually decided to attend Friday’s event on a whim — and not as a scheduled celebrity appearance. The Chicago-based fighter says he often attends Midwest-based shows. However, Friday was one of the most unique.

“That’s the first-ever double knockout,” said Carter, who’s fought all over the world for organizations such as the UFC, Pancrase and Shooto. “I’ve seen spinning backfists, body-shot TKOs and some strange things, but I’ve never eyewitnessed, up until that very moment, a double knockout. I don’t know how long we’ll have to wait before there’s another one. However, I do know that I had the privilege to be a part of history in the making.”

“I’m wonderful,” Carter said. “No injuries. No nothing. Well, I do have a bald spot. Other than that, though, I’m great.”

That was almost as good as that one fight in UFC I can’t remember, dude gets punched in the stomach and is almost gone and then he knocks the other guy out (he wins) but they both fall. LMAO!!!!!!!!

by Joe on May 19, 2008 1:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

that was drago vs scott smith. hughes and newton were kinda koed at the same time just like maynard vs emerson although this double ko was alot different. i saw it earlier and was like wow!. i always wanted to see something like this in boxing and it wouldnt surprise me to see it again in mma.

by b.w. on May 19, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hughesus was out in the fight with Newton!, I am “still to this day” pissed off that they gave Hughesus the WW title after that fight!…Newton got slammed down because Hughesus was choked out, and they both were “out”..It should have been a N/C….After the ref calls the fight, Hughesus sits up, and says “what happened”?(he was out)..Then they told him he won, and he was all happy!..If he didn’t get choked out, he would have known he won instintly, and cheered right away…That was the first time I looked at Hughesus as a fighter I dislike…over the years he turned into a fighter I hate…

by Stagger-Lee on May 19, 2008 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

hughes was their “poster boy” back then. or at least they wanted him to be.

by b.w. on May 19, 2008 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Poster boy for sure . . Why do you think Dennis Hallman isnt welcome in the UFC, cause he would have RNC’d that ass!!! For a 3rd time!! But Dana doesnt want some guy thats HELLA wierd and sounds representing his company, not the best fighters just the best looking fighters on a poster or in an interview.

ARHgggh, Nice moderating on my comment MANIA, i should have put “sounds like a lisping dork huh???”

hey you know the LWH Champ Rampage? He was out cold against Arona, but then he came to miraculously and slammed him and Arona was out cold lol….weird stuff happens in MMA, we as fans just have to get over it…Also, Newton had his eyes closed in that fight so he was too tired, and besides, if Matt didnt slam him and just “fell” because he was out, then Newton should have let go and not got have gotten knocked out, that or I wouldn’t think that would be enough force to KO a guy?

by Chadx23 on May 19, 2008 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree, Newton was definently on the losing end of that one, Hughes was dazed for a second, but think about if it was a real fight who would you rather be? The guy who got slammed into another world? OR the guy who got dazed for a bit, but then is still able to pound on the other non-consciouse guy?

by The Anomaly on May 19, 2008 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wrong!.Chadx23
Rampage got caught in a triangle, he then picked Arona up, and immeditly slammed him down!,..
Hughesus got caught, he picked Newton up, walked around for a bit, then rested Newton on the fence, meanwhile Newton is gripping harder, Hughesus passes out, and falls with Newton, Knocking them BOTH out…If you are trying to tell me Rampage was out when he slammed Arona, but meraculously had the cohearance to punch Arona 1 or 2 times before the ref jumpped in, then WOW, Rampage can fight while he is KO’d..He should have used that talent while in Wanderlei’s thai-clinch..lol

by Stagger-Lee on May 19, 2008 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So with you on that one Stagger! That is something we both agree on 100%

Damn, i dont get on here so much anymore, but glad i caught this, classic! I’d love to see that happen in the first 10 seconds of the Kimbo Vs Thompson fight

by ToeLock on May 19, 2008 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Stagger left out the part where Newton held on to the cage to prevent the slam. He was told to let go, then went for a ride.

The fight your thinking of is Pete Sell vs Scott Smith.

by Zilla on May 19, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeh Pete Sell, bless him, the man with the strangely shaped head is on the wrong end of a few highlight reels

by ToeLock on May 19, 2008 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, that’s crazy.

by Haze on May 19, 2008 1:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The question is, do they both get the KO victory, both get the KO loss, or is it a no contest since neither could continue. OR should the guy with his hands up while being KO’d get the W since its like a “Not it” moment and he was first to make a claim through unconcious sign language! Hhahaha!

by ( (Adam G) ) on May 19, 2008 1:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i know in the ufc it would be a NC like gray maynard and rob emerson’s fight, but w/ this org who knows.

I saw the same thing in a amateur boxing match, except both guys swung at the same time, there heads colided and they were both KOed. But this was way better.

by alex on May 19, 2008 3:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I saw this in a European soccer match, but both dudes were taking dives.

by PW on May 19, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

haha. I always laugh when I see soccer players acting out their injuries. They take dives all the time. Hell, when I was a kid, even my coach told me to take the occasional dive.

I tried to get the video to stop at the right spot in time… dificult to do… it appears there is no contact from the guy on the left… a better replay capturing the exact timing is the only way to tell.

by THORAZINE on May 19, 2008 3:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

OK, finally got it, there is contact from the guy on the left…. AWESOME!! I feel better now. lol

by THORAZINE on May 19, 2008 3:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs
