Lesnar vs. Coleman…. main event…. oh god, this almost sounds like something that would pass in Japanese MMA.

They have to at least get St Pierre or Silva on the card

by RUSH on May 18, 2008 10:52 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Im not so sure it’s the main event … prob co main (I would hope). Anderson Silva is hopefully on this card or Fitch-St. Pierre.

by MMAmania on May 18, 2008 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Okay I had to re-read that it was A featured bout, not THE featured bout. Phew, sorta jumped the gun there!

by RUSH on May 18, 2008 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nope, I think I’m gonna be sick after all.

“In THE main event, Brock Lesnar, fighting out of his hometown of Minneapolis, will return to the Octagon™ to face UFC Hall of Famer and former PRIDE® superstar Mark “The Hammer” Coleman, and in what many are calling the best lightweight fight of 2008, Kenny “KenFlo” Florian will square off against Roger “El Matador” Huerta in a battle that will move the winner one step closer to a 155-pound title shot."

Damn it, what a joke

by RUSH on May 18, 2008 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mania’ you should change the headline, on this article
“damn it” is right RUSH…I just had to go over to ufc.com to see it for myself..This is bullshit!, I know Brock sells enough tickets(more then most) but, I still dont think he deserves to be Main event on a ppv card…IMO, I think that ppv’s should always have a title fight for the main event…The UFC has 5 champion’s and they hold ppv’s once a month..How the hell can they not have a title fight on every ppv???
Brock .vs. Coleman “main event” would have been better suited on a Ultimate Fight/Night..

Yeah I stand corrected.

I am sorry but I can not supportt his Card! This is a joke! The UFC is insulting my intelligenece by trying to sell me this crap! A novice fighter vs. a Has been! I wont be purchasing this event on Princi[ple.

Florian vs. Huerta is not enough to carry this event, especially after an Expensive month of August! UFC can kiss my ass with this bullsh*t Main event!

by braveheart on May 19, 2008 5:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

this card with the kenny florian and roger huerta fight would be good! all of the other fights are a bonus IMO. i do not how how after Brock lost they are going to feed him some washed up old guy who is going to stand in front of him so he can punch him in the face! i guess the ufc has to get some wins out of there big investment!

by Winner by Strikes! on May 18, 2008 10:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Kenny and Roger are already on the card.

IF Sherk wins next weekend, he will most likely try to come back that PPV and fight at home and the LW title will be the main event. But now that they made Florian vs. Huerta, who else could be considered for an opponent? BJ, immediate rematch?

Spider vs. Okami might find its way to this card also, huh?

by PJJ on May 18, 2008 12:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My thoughts on this is that we probably won’t see BJ or Sherk again until they fight either Florian or Huerta. I think we will see Spider vs. Okami on this one. It’s time for Silva to get back in there, he will be due when that time rolls around. I think St. Pierre and Fitch will headline 88.

Main event: Silva vs. Okami at UFC 87. That’s my guess, strictly based on the fact that there just isn’t anyone around in the middleweight division and Silva is due.

by tripleainto on May 18, 2008 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know BJ wouldn’t come back that quickly. Sherk would only do so ‘cause the locality for him but he won’t have anyone to defend against (and I don’t think he would come back that quickly if he loses). I am disgusted that they are calling Lesnar vs. Coleman the main event.

by PJJ on May 18, 2008 8:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

After a terrible streak of names, such as “Rapid Fire, Bedlam, ILL WILL (ugh), PRIDE of a Champion” the UFC hit a good title. Seek and Destroy. Sounds like a bad ass title, to a so far bad ass card.

by "Mr. NC-17" on May 18, 2008 12:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

if sherk beats penn then he won’t be on the card. if he loses, i think he will be.

Niether Sherk or Penn will be on this card, don’t kid yourself.

Is anyone really excited about Lesner-Coleman? I’m pretty sure everyone agrees the only outcome will be Lesner taking the old fogey down and getting a quick tko in under 2 minutes. Will that be something for Lesner to be proud of? I can Only hope I’m wrong and somehow Coleman pulls out a win like Mir did. Thats the only way this fight will be entertaining.

by BLOodyMEss on May 18, 2008 6:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m excited to see Lesnar again. Everybody keeps posting that Mir schooled Lesnar, when the fight I saw was Lesnar beating the shit out of Mir before getting caught. Lesnar will be a beast with alittle more experience.

by JV on May 18, 2008 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree. Lesnar needs this win to stay relevant, but he’s getting a really unfair amount of hate on here. How many guys come into the UFC or MMA with an amateur wrestling background? Lots, that’s how many, and very few, if any, are as accomplished as Lesnar. And what difference does it make if Lesnar-Coleman is the main event? He was obviously going to be on the televised portion of the show regardless, so who cares if he’s the fifth fight or the first.

by PW on May 19, 2008 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I care if he’s the main event or the fifth. Everyone who hates on Kimbo cares. This is just pure stupidity on the part of the UFC. Kimbo is getting headliner cards when he should be fighting upcoming fighters not washed up big name fighters. Then the UFC in all wisdom jumps in and goes Gary Shaw your a dumbass and Kimbo fights cans. Now UFC puts Lesnar as the main bout fighting an over the hill fighter, no disrepect to coleman but he doesn’t stand a chance here. This bout is embarrassing and I wish they hadn’t wasted the Huerta-Florian bout on this card. Maybe they’ll redeem themselves with a great undercard.

it says on ufc.com this is main event. hopefully gets pushed back if they get another big fight. franklin vs hendo or somethiing

by Macho Bullshit on May 18, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They should just call it “UFC 87: The 87th UFC” keep it simple.

by Haze on May 18, 2008 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If PRIDE or DREAM would’ve named their event, “Seek & Destroy” all their fans would be nutting on it. However, since it’s the UFC, it’s hated.

by "Wildfire" Johnny Rage on May 18, 2008 7:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

they need to just make lesner fight his way up the ranks just like everyone else.
this really benifits noone, if he loses he gains nothing but knowing that win was a joke from a fight that was practically given to him, and if he wins im still not gonna feel like he has accomplished anything by beating someone whos name i havent even thought about in forever until they announced the hall of fame induction and the fight. im not a fan of kimbo, but dana is doing the same stuff with brock that they bitch about XC doing with kimbo.
i honestly could care less about the lesner fight, if he wins its still just a meaningless vicotry, colemans not exactly in line for a title shot or anything. only possible good to come from it is if coleman somehow wins and shows the ufc not to make these poor fights that arent even good for the sport.
however,i cant wait to see ken-flo and huerta! that has the potential to be a really AMAZING fight. both these guys keep a good pace and always come to fight, so lets hope that something like mazzagatti doesnt screw this one up for us. i mean come on if a fighter screwed up half as much as mazzagatti they woulda been gone a long time ago, because of him not all fight are being desided by the fighters, which is very sad…but thats a different conversation for a different post.

YOu ufc nut huggerzz always say elite or affliction has a terrible card well affliction is making a great card not trying to so obviously just sell ppv’s and tickets

this match up is bs just to get peoople to watch!
I ain’t watching …watch comlen’s last few fights, a boxing commission would not let coleman fight…he has no cardio and no chin

lessnaer will win this is not worth the money people

dana has sold his brand of mma thats it , he’s out to make money thats it, yet he states otherwise more double talk

by GORANDY on May 18, 2008 9:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i wonder how many people will buy tickets with just 3 bouts named so far

by bryant on May 18, 2008 9:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If they drop ppv price to $20, I still wouldn’t buy it. Brock as main event is a disgrace, anyway you look at it.

by Knowitall on May 18, 2008 10:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m just going to watch it at a bar.

by chefdaddy on May 19, 2008 7:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

it depends if the fight card is worth watching on ppv, Huerta – Florian seems to be a great match up to see, Coleman – Brock is a wierd match-up but i expect to see lots of ground n pounding. the fight card hasn’t even filled up yet just those two bouts, you’ll have to wait next month or later to see the complete fight card and then you’ll know if it’s worth see or not on ppv.

by Ro on May 19, 2008 8:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I may pass on this one for the first time in a year and a half. And Dana mocks Kimbo……

I have a feeling that Brock is Dana’s brain child and he ain’t letting it go.

Brock would be better off getting into acting. A remake of Revenge of the Nerds starring Brock as one of the “College Jocks” would be a real winner.

C’mon UFC, you’ve gotta do better than this….

by Rilly on May 18, 2008 11:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Worst UFC PPV ever. You can censor me MMA but Dana White and the UFC has got to give the fans more credit. No one is buying this bullsh*t. It’s a circus.

how d’you think i feel? the first ufc in minnesota and no title fight!?!? bush league

by ufcmn89 on May 19, 2008 1:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I would love to see Karo get in there and fight someone like Koscheck.

The names are alittle lame but they need a theme. Minnesota Massacre…

Or even GROUND N’ POUND.

I keep saying this how about a legends vs new blood… Call it “Quest for Legacy”

Randy Coutour vs Brock Lesnar
Chuck vs A. Silva
R. Gracie vs BJ PENN

Or even a USA VS THE WORLD

by Yikes on May 19, 2008 7:44 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lesner is without doubt the favourite and there is no way he should lose this, but Coleman is still a strong experienced fighter. Lesner has never been punched or knee’d in the face by someone like Coleman before. I hope for his sake he doesn’t embarass himself.

by Ade on May 19, 2008 8:10 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’ll pay just for Roger vs Ken…all the rest will be a bonus. But I will say this, it is a complete disgrace and disrespectfull to the fighters to have Brock as the main event, the guy is a bust!!!! Dana is always saying how this is a legit sport, yet a WWE superstar gets headlined????

by Robert on May 19, 2008 8:53 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

All right, listen up. Before Brock Lesnar was the WWE champion, before he was a NFL wash-out, he was a national champion college wrestler. He was a 2-time Juco All-American, 2-time All-Big 10, and a national heavyweight champion. His college wrestling credentials are better than Matt Hughes, better than Rashad Evans, better than Jake O’Brien and nearly on par with Josh Koscheck. If you idiots would get past your blind hatred of Lesnar for having been in the WWE you might see that he is one of the most physically gifted and imposing fighters ever to step into the octagon. He had the balls to take on a former UFC champion his first time out and was a few seconds away from pounding him out before getting caught in a highly advanced BJJ counter and sub that only about three people on the planet could have pulled on him. Mark my words, he will be a major force in the UFC, so get used to it.

by PW on May 19, 2008 9:55 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Brock is gonna gonna be successful in the HW division too. Haven’t seen his chin tested, but I think the only two guys that Could stop him are Mir and Nog. I don’t think anybody will be able to stay off of their backs against him, so a little BJJ training and I think he’ll be too much for anyone to deal with. My prediction is that in a year or two people will be wanting Lesnar v Fedor.

^“gonna gonna” ooops

by ufcmn89 on May 19, 2008 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

First PW calling people idiots, because we’re not happy about a guy with a 1-1 mma record, 0-1 ufc record headlining an event is just plain ignorant. I don’t care what he did 10 years ago, right now he’s 0-1 in ufc. That is disrespectful to guys like Kenflo, Huerta, and any other vets that may be on the card. That also makes Dana look like a hypocrite after all he’s said about other promotions headlining unproven mma fighters. YOU JUST CAN’T JUSTIFY THAT!!!!!!!!

by Knowitall on May 19, 2008 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The reason Lesnar is listed as the main event is because that is what will sell the most tickets and the most PPVs to the mainstream audience. And for people more familiar with MMA, we will buy because of the Huerta vs. Florian fight. People pay the same amount to see one good boxing match, and we’ll probably get three good MMA matches to watch, with the others being lopsided. And who knows? Rocky took Tarver to a decision, so maybe Coleman’s got more of a chance against Brock than we think.

by UFCAddict on May 19, 2008 10:21 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well put. It is listed as the main event because It’s in Minnesota where Lesnars name is huge. Who cares what the main event is listed as. Everyone getting all worked up about this card should wait until the rest of it announced. With Lesnar (who regardless of the haters is a huge name to follow) Huerta and Florian going toe to toe already signed up, this card is only 2 good announcements away from being a high quality card.
