Female MMA fighter Carina Damm positive for steroids

Carina Damm (9-3) -- one of newest female stars signed to an Elite XC contract -- has tested positive for the steroid Nandrolone and has been suspended for one year and fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commision (CSAC).
Damm recently inked a three-fight deal with Elite XC.
This failed test comes from a post fight screening performed after her second round submission win over Sophie Bagherdai at Fatal Femmes Fighting 4: "Call of the Wild" on April 3.
She is a solid jiu-jitsu player who boasts five career submission wins.
Nandrolone is the same steroid for which then UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk tested positive for after his UFC 73: "Stacked" win over Hermes Franca back in July 2007.
There has been lots of talk about natural levels of Nandrolone being higher in professional athletes than the average Joe (or Jane) and that the range of 2ng/ml - 6ng/ml is, in some cases, not accurate. That's all up for debate.
Sherk's positive test showed the level of Nandrolone in his system to be at 12ng/ml. That's relatively close to the textbook natural level. His case had some room for argument ... maybe.
Damm's, however, does not. She showed a level of 37.9 ng/ml, which is off the charts.
She appears to be pretty talented, and it's a shame for a gifted athlete to waste that talent by cheating. She'll be eligible to fight again on April 3, 2009.

This is such a tragedy…….the last thing I’d expect is a female MMA fighter testing positive for steroids. And what really grinds my gears is that she her test results put sherk’s results to shame…..who would a thought…….

Bummer. I like MMA Barbie. She is pretty and kicks butt. She fought a lot in Bodog Fights. Has a cool style, and stays active. Very disappointing to see her test positive for steroids. Specially at those levels.

Anyway does anyone know if liquid masterdrol tests positive for steroid tests? I a really like this product, increases my bench by 30 pounds right when i take it. My first fight is coming up in 2 months and don’t want to get busted

At the end of the day most serious athletes are some some kind of steroids but they just know how to cycle it. She just didn’t leave enough time to come of the Deca since it stays in the system for a very long time.

I’m so tired of the claims that Sherk didn’t cheat because he only got caught with a Nandrolone level of 12, so he must just be a beast who’s crazy training ethic causes him to naturally produce these levels.

Here is a quote from an interview with Kieth Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on fighters who test positive with only slightly elevated levels…
" That’s what makes some of these cases like the [Royce] Gracie case so strange to be such a high level. When we’ve busted people for Nandrolone, their levels have been closer to Sean Sherk’s level than to Royce’s level because arguably, I’m not speaking for Sean, that’s not our case, but arguably in some of the cases we’ve had it looks like the fighter just missed it by two days. Had he stopped taking steroids two days earlier, he would have gotten away with it."
