Even though he’s training with my favorite fighter, Florian is just gonna be tooo much for this overated guy.

yea right…florian is over rated and cheats…how many fights has he been in where he lands illegal blows a couple times…lauzon had him before those elbows..florian is gonna have to go back to the bottom of the ladder after huerta is done with him

so who has kenny florian beat?? to be honest i think huerta has had the tougher overall fighters in and outside the ufc…ken-flo hasnt he beats cans to his title shot lost to sherk and won agaisnt lauzon who i think i had im till he got elbowed many times int he back of the head! huerta has beat the better competition he faced. ken-flo hasnt! kenny has only beat two notable opponents…mishima and lauzon! thats it! i dont think kenny could hold clay guida the way he fought huerta!

Huerta is the most over rated UFC fighter. The poster child of the UFC for the hispanic market. Ever since he appeared on Sports Illustrated the UFC has over hyped him.Huerta is a very sloppy fighter. He has great potential but leaves himself open to submissions, knees and potential knock outs. He has gotten away with this with less calibur fighters. But that won’t work at the next level. Florian will be too much for Huerta. Look for a submission in favor of Florian.

by GForce on May 25, 2008 2:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

IMO huerta is a bit over rated. He his being pimped for the mexican audience. Don’t get me wrong, he is a talented fighter, but some fans make him out to be this great fighter. He puts on a show, and I can respect that, but Florian will expose him!

by kevin on May 14, 2008 12:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Florian will take him out to. But he’s not getting pimped as much as Bisping! lol

by chefdaddy on May 14, 2008 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was born in LA making him an American but he carries a mexican flag & wears it for shorts. He’s being pimped alright.

It bothers me that he trained in Minnesota and was born in the U.S. but still is being pimped for the mexican audience

Businesses are recognizing the spending potential of Americans that are of Latin descent. That’s why he is being “pimped” to the Latin audience. Remember, it ain’t just Mexicans who speak Spanish. Lots of other Latin people out there. Mexicans just get all the hype.

I don’t care where he’s from, doesn’t matter what part of the world he’s from, what matters that he’s a great fighter who has enough credit to be in the UFC. UFC’s for the best fighters around the world.

by Tex-Mex on May 14, 2008 3:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s not how businesses see it. Why do you think Bisping gets so much hype? You better recognize its a business, too.

by OJR on May 14, 2008 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It really isn’t any different than say, someone being born in the states claiming to be irish because of Irish background in the family. No prob. I was glad to see him face Guida (I was rooting for Guida), some actual competion in the UFC. He came back from that one real well. Suprised the shit outta me! I think Ken-Flo will put a loss on his record though. It should be a damn good fight though. Hopefully on a fite night live card….

by Mattass on May 14, 2008 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He grew up in the streets of Mexico selling gum until he was 13. He’s not being “pimped” by anybody, he is mexican-american and wears mexico’s pride on his shoulder.

So I don’t why it would “bother” you??

“Eventually the mother of a friend was given legal guardianship, and she provided his ticket out of San Juan. “That’s how I first moved to Austin [Texas],” Huerta explains. “We had a little apartment there.”"

As a fighter, you take on the guys the UFC gives you. All you can do is try to win those fights.

Huerta is not undefeated….Only man he has ever lost to was Melvin Guillard!

by john on May 14, 2008 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wasn’t that the one that got thrown out because Melvin was overly greased?

by PW on May 14, 2008 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually no, his loss was to Ryan Schultz, the Guillard fight was overturned by the commision and made a N/C because Melvin was lubed up with something to avoid submissions.

by Haze on May 14, 2008 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow thanks for the intell….I had no idea that fight got overturned….I cant believe he lost to ryan shults….That would never happen again. The extra grease is the reason that all of Japan hates Akiyama…he was all greased up for his fight against Sakuraba 2 new years ago.

A fight that I am looking forward to that no one seems to be talking about is Gilbert Melendez vs. THompson….Thats going to be a great scrap that will go down in June!

He’s a promising prospect!

by MikeD on May 14, 2008 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I completely agree. Some might argue he was “exposed” by nearly getting dropped by Guida. But I look at it differently – what an excellent recovery and comeback to win the fight. I think the kid is great to watch and if he’s hanging out and training with GSP that can only help him.

by Dave on May 14, 2008 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think people are saying he’s in the league of BJ Penn. But the talent is there, and he surely can improve greatly. Huerta def has the potential to be a great fighter and training with G Jackson camp is a good 1st step. This fight is going to be awesome. I’ll give it a 50/50.

by jim on May 14, 2008 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t believe he is overrated at all. He is a very talented fighter and he took everything that Clay Guida gave him and still ended up on top. I think Guida is a top 5 lightweight in the UFC but has gotten unlucky in all three of his losses. He has yet to be dominated and truthfully he should be 5 – 1 or 6 – 0 in the UFC. I am sure that will stir up a whole different can of worms but the lightweight division is so stacked there are really only two, maybe three that can be placed in the top 5 for sure. Penn, Sherk, and the third would probably be Florian.

My point with the Guida fight is that Huerta was able to show that never give up attitude that it takes to be great in this sport. He is super talented, has the right attitude, and is now training with GSP. This is going to be a very interesting fight. Look for Huerta to be super strong, in tremendous shape, and mixing up his game plan against Florian. I wouldn’t be surprised if his wrestling improves greatly. We are going to see a new Roger Huerta.

As for huerta vs. Florian…this fighht is still 3 months away so I wont start analyzing the fight now, because I wont have anything to talk about once it gets close to the fight.

What I will say is that I expect to see th best possible version of Huerta…Better then he has ever been… On the underhand Florian will be the same ol florian. Its going to be easier for Huerta to prepare for Florian, then for Florian to prepare for Huerta…

by john on May 14, 2008 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kevin, I don’t understand that nonsense. I hear this ALL OF THE TIME; “Roger Huerta is overrated by the fans!”… what are those of you who constantly say this referring to? Huerta isn’t on ANYONE’s Top 10 list as he’s only beaten 1 Top 20 fighter in Guida. That’s not going to put you on anyones Top 10 list unless that person is just trolling you.

So where is Huerta being overrated? Because a lot of fans like him, think he is a great fighter? HE IS! Huerta is a very talented fighter, and he is young with tons of potential. He’s also got A Level abilities in area’s you cannot teach anyone-which is heart, chin, resourcefulness, endurance, etc. His actual skill level may not be A Level yet, but the guy is very young.

SO WHAT the fans hype up Huerta? Why not? The guy puts everything on the line every time he steps in the octagon, NEVER disappoints, fights who he is told, and he keeps winning. Someone like that is WORTHY of the fans and attention he gets.

I am confused to where this “over hyped” crap comes into play. I think that people like you just want to feel like they are “In-the-know” and like to shit on anyone that the regular fan caters to.

Are you kiddy me? Guida was taking it to him. He can thank Guida for being a real fighter because he was definately up on all the score cards before going for the takedown and catching a knee. He could have sat back and coasted to a decision, but that’s not his style. Remember that fight, before you make Huerta out to be some super badass. War Florian!!!!

by Getrawbc on May 14, 2008 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Its obvious most people would like to be judges. However the score doesn’t reflect how the fight actually went. It was a back and forth war between Huerta and Guida where Guida looked like he was doing more but it didn’t look like it was affecting Huerta. Huerta will beat Florian. Even if Florian wins he already lost to Sherk and BJ is a better BJJ.

by Smokes on May 14, 2008 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Huerta isn’t going to be quite as pretty after Florian crushes his face. Florian is going to move the dimples from Huerta’s cheeks to the top of the pretty boy’s head.

P.S. I just jealous I’m not as pretty as Huerta.

Florian: I don’t know. Maybe I felt a little threatened or something…‘cause your career is kind of just blossoming…and mine’s kind of winding down
or whatever.

Huerta: And I felt like, “This guy’s really hurting me”… and it hurt.

Florian: And I felt like when you told me
to “Ken-Flo” my balls…that really hurt.

Huerta: Maybe I was scared, man. You’re Kenny Florian! Yeah, you’re Kenny Florian. You know what it’s like to be another fighter in Florian’s shadow? You want to hear something crazy? Your work…in TUF 1…made me want to be a fighter. I freakin’ worship you, man.

Before this move, I thought Florian would mount and GnP/RnC Huerta easily like he does everybody else cuz of Huerta being a loose canon / scrambling type in his fights. But nobody really seen the Greg Jackson product of Huerta yet so theres not even enough info to call this 1. That doesn’t change the fact that I’m eagerly waiting patiently until somebody beats down Florian (preferably using elbows to splat his face sending blood pouring down his throat blocking air passages – not spraying or dripping by the way in case you were wondering specifically).

Huerta is underated because of his questionable performance against Clay Guida. In that fight he basically had no answers but ended up winning with a ‘serra caliber’ fluke knee to the head. I would not be surprised at all if kenny totally exposes Huerta on the ground. Look for a TKO in round 3.

Huerta’s game is going to get even better now. All of the other stars who went to Greg Jackson’s camp improved (Jardine, Marquardt, Rashad, GSP, etc.), so Huerta training with those top tier guys is only going to improve him that much more. Hard to call because we haven’t seen Huerta reach any kind of limit. Most of his fights were dingleberries, and when he fought Guida he rose up and found another level to rise up and take the fight over. Guida had no answers once Roger found the extra gear.

Since Kenny is another caliber up, it will be fun to see if Roger can rise up to that. It’s totally exciting to see. Could go either way, but if Roger’s training with GSP, it’s definitely a good thing for him. Kenny seems like a bit of a dingleburger though. Probably a decent person in real life, but he pushes the acceptability limits sometimes (elbows in order to cut people on the back of the head etc). I prefer straight up fighting myself like Huerta and GSP. I try to not be a nut nibbler but sometimes I think that maybe I just am. So be it I guess.

i must say st. pierre’s assembled a pretty studly camp and training with georges and all those dudes can only help huerta get over the hump to a-level skillset. he’s got the heart and stamina, just needs to step up the rest of his game and he’ll be pretty badass. i dunno if he’s ready for kenflo, but i saw some uncharacteristic holes in the lauzon fight that huerta might be looking at as well, so it’s anybody’s guess. for sure it will be a wicked fight and i’m personally psyched to see it.

as for huerta being overrated…he fights his ass off every time, has a huge heart, and is young, dedicated, and obviously seeking out the best training he can find in order to become better, so while some of you are crying about how he’s not very good and whining about this and that AND have never gotten in a fight in your life, it’s a bit rich…you should just respect the fact he actually walks the talk for your entertainment instead of bitching about it on the internet.

Those 2 are practicing the north south position all day long.

As much as I think training with Jackson will improve his game, Ken will be to much for him. Ken will walk through him like he did to Joe Lauzon.

I just cant see Huerta winning judging off his last performance agaisnt Guida. If Florian gets the advantagous positiong that Guida was achieving all day long (side guard, half guard, even full guard) the consequences will be much worse then a little Guida punch.

I train with kenny in boston and for anyone who thinks kenny is soft or over rated, boston isn’t a big city so come spar with him and get your head kicked off! Ask around were he trains and get in the ring with him! Lol florian is way to technical to lose to huerta! Kenny is just all around a better fighter! Period.

Roger is not overrated by any means. The guy has 20 wins and has beat notable guys even before getting into the UFC. He has wins over Blackburn, Matt Wiman, Joe Jordan, and he is too smart, strong, and a master with his scrambling ability. Huerta will win this fight…I know he will

it is about talent, not who is pimped out to what audience, roger is a skilled fighter and deserves the praise that he is getting.
