Vera’s is probably the happiest HW in the UFC. Now that big Tim is gone he might even be able to get a title shot.

Until the United States Goverment secure our borders, I will not support the fighting campaign of Brandon Vera.

It means that I won’t support Vera until the borders are secure. You’ll figure it out.

I don’t think we will. haha

I would really like to see Vera beat WERDUM at heavyweight, but I remain skeptical. Not sure he will cut it at heavyweight. This fight against Werdum should be a good test because he cant beat WERDUM, who is close to his size, then he must cut down to LHW! On paper, Vera should win…he has been practicing muy tai for much longer and his greco Roman background should keep the fight standing as long as he wants, but Werdum makes me nervous…I will change my mind about thihs fight 10 times by the time they actually fight so I will just hold back the predictions but If I had t pick right now, I would go with Werdum!

by john on May 13, 2008 4:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

close to his size?!?!!? are you kidding Werdum is huge!!

by Luke64 on May 13, 2008 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

God you’ve sure done a complete 180, not the first time ive seen you do that haha.
The last Werdum/Vera post you replied to me saying “Werdum will beat VEra, you’ve heard it here first!!”

by The Anomaly on May 14, 2008 3:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dude read the last line of my post! r u dislexic or something?

I said, on paper Vera should win…..people have a hard time actually interpreting what they read!

Get your sh*t straight before you attack me!

by John on May 14, 2008 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

haha hell nah dude, concieding that on paper vera should win, is a complete 180 for you. You were a 100% sure werdum would take this with no trouble before. I ain’t attackin anybody dude, just call it like I see it.

by The Anomaly on May 14, 2008 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Vera should win on paper and he will. Vera has him standing and Vera’s wrestling is more than good enough to keep it standing. If it does go to the the ground, Vera isn’t exactly a fish out of water, but he does have to be VERY careful because Werdum has some serious BJJ. Vera will be HW champ within a year, mark my words.

by Gord on May 17, 2008 2:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seemed personable and down to earth in that interview. Which is far different than the normal “I’m the greatest and will be the first ever to hold HW and LHW belts at the same time”.

by ViolentMike on May 13, 2008 4:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

His videos are edited to make him look more cocky. I’ve met Brandon and he’s a cool dude.

by Pat on May 13, 2008 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What’s wrong with stating his goals. I think he is being realistic in saying, that when he wins the belt he won’t still have it in 5 years, because some new young talent will come and take it. Maybe I’m missing something, but I really think he’s a HW GSP (he’s the full package).

by Gord on May 17, 2008 2:38 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i would rather see him get a title shot than mir.

If Vera could keep the silly comments out when hyping himself, I’d like him a whole lot better. He’s just not that mature yet… you can see it in his interview. However, he’s starting to grow up.

by THORAZINE on May 13, 2008 4:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i think your right, but i agree he is starting to mature and its going to make him a better fighter also.

by roy on May 13, 2008 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m looking forward to seeing Vera maul Verdum and move up in the HW rankings in the UFC.

by Big Jake on May 13, 2008 4:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Do you guys think he’s a viable heavy weight though? I know the HW division is thin, and the UFC needs Vera in the mix but he is more of a LHW in body size, and I see better fights in the LHW division. Vera vs Thiago Silva comes to mind.

I like Brandon Vera, but, even Tim Sylvia showed him that a well skilled bigger HW can take him out of his game. Too bad the UFC lost Arlovski. Vera vs. Arlovski would have had some huge fireworks too!

by TABASCOsauce on May 13, 2008 4:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

What do you mean “even Tim Sylvia”? Tim is a two-time champ and has been in 9 title fights. I think his style is boring and is personality is lacking, but there’s no doubt he’s a very good fighter. I think people are gonna be surprised with his performance against Fedor. I’m not saying he’ll win, but it will be competitive.

If Vera wins, he should get Herring next, and then a title shot.

by Pat on May 13, 2008 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I mean EVEN Tim Sylvia meaning that Sylvia is big in size, but, out weighed to a bigger HW like Lesnar. Lesnar out weighs Sylvia by probably 20-25 lbs. Lesnar would be like 35lbs bigger than Vera. Given time and the proper skill set, Vera couldn’t handle Lesnars size. The point was to discuss Vera’s obvious small size in the HW division, not to discredit Tim Sylvia’s ability.

I’d love to see Sylvia take out Fedor, and end the Couture Fedor bantering.

by TABASCOsauce on May 14, 2008 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t understand Vera’s logic, at LHW he can hold the title but at HW it’s a big task and probably won’t happen.

by JV on May 13, 2008 4:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

His logic is there’s less competition at HW. If he’s ever gonna be HW champ, now’s the time, while it’s not stacked.

by Pat on May 13, 2008 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even with less competition in HW, hows he going to deal with someone like Lesnar? Or the other big guys. If he gets past Werdum in good fashion then we’ll see but for now LHW is a way better division for him, he’ll be one of the big guys.

by JV on May 13, 2008 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lesnar is down in the foodchain right now! i mean he he’s record is 1 and 1! He should not get a title shot for atleest a year. Vera came in and had to build up he’s record why is lesnar any different?

by matthew on May 13, 2008 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He’ll deal with Lesnar 275lbs the same way he dealt with Mir 255 lbs (who BEAT lesnar), SPEED and SKILL. And KNEES, KICKS and PUNCHES. Tim Sylvia (the biggest HW) COULDN’T hurt a one handed Vera, why do people worry about his size. He’s 6’ 3" 230 lbs and he is FAST. Let Brock kick you and then let Vera kick you and then tell me he is to small. Velosity is a big part of the power equation.

by Gord on May 17, 2008 2:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gotta like the guy.

by Ground-Game on May 13, 2008 5:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know why everone thinks he should move to LHW. He was smothered by Silvia for 3 rounds in his only lose. He dominated all his other fights, including the guy who gets the next title shot.
Look at Randy at LHW compared to his last couple fights at HW. I just think this Werdum fight will really show where he belongs. And I hope for the sake of the UFC HW division he gets a highlight reel KO (which I think is very possibly).

its filipino. :)

by weoweoweo on May 14, 2008 8:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just curious — how does a person from the Philipines become a Filipino? To anyone who reads this, I’m looking for an answer, not a punch line.

by PW on May 14, 2008 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

In the Philippine language, there isn’t really an “F” sound. In true dialect, the “F” sound in is actually a “P”.

Its actually Pilipino.

But as time went, F in Filipino became accepted.

Chris your officially the most anoying poster on mmamania! Vera held his own with a 6’8 giant and beat the guy who has the next shot at the title. Go figure!

I think Vera will win a decision! Verdum has never been stopped and he’s fought Gonzaga twice, Big Nog, Arlovski.

by Pat on May 13, 2008 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He should drop to 205. Especially after the Tim Silvia beatdown he got." Dont believe the hype "

by Dan on May 13, 2008 6:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Dan if you have seen any of his fights then you would not it isnt hype! this Guy is the real deal! He broke his arm against silva so it is hard to use that fight as a example of how good he really is!

by matthew on May 13, 2008 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

“Tim Silvia beatdown”?

All I saw was Tim pushing him against the cage for 15 mins.

by Sean_M on May 14, 2008 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

whats with all the hate.his only loss was to big tim.he broke his hand and still stood in there.he will beat werdum.after that he might get a title shot against mir.we know what he did to mir.hes a cool guy and the biggest chinese philipino ive seen

how you like the interviewer’s conversational announcer voice? i’m going to try that when i get home until somebody pimp-slaps me. lol

You never seen/heard Mauro Renallo before (or however you spell his name)? He announced for PRIDE.

Now the Fight Professor Stephen Quadros – I find him to be quite irritating.

vera sounded drunk. he’s greedy too

by salmonbum on May 13, 2008 8:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

whats your point? this is a mma thread not a personality thread!

by matthew on May 13, 2008 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Vera isn’t cocky, he is confident, I first met him before UFC 65, he believes in himself so much that he bet the majority of his guaranteed purse on himself. Must have been a nice decision.

by Andrew on May 13, 2008 11:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Reading These Comments Makes Me Laugh…..
“vera sounded drunk. he’s greedy too” ,
“HYPE !!!!!!! THATS ALL IM GONNA SAY ABOUT VERA” ,
“Very immature for his age” .

Are You Guys Looking To Date Him Or Something??
Its A Video Interview Just Enjoy It.

by Sour Diesel on May 14, 2008 12:34 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. Vera moving down to LHW? Why would he do that? I mean Brandon Vera has a much better chance to win the HW title considering theres only 3 fighters in the entire division lol.

by Josh on May 14, 2008 1:40 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ya really. he’s a good fighter, and he’s def well rounded. so idk why everyones saying he’s just hype :s. And i don’t know how old this guy is but i don’t know why people call him immature/cocky. he seemed to have learned a lot of shit from what he’s done growing up, and he doesn’t seem satisfied. I’m sure he knows he has more shit to learn outside of fighting. and in mma, he’s pushing himself to hold 2 titles….idk what to say bout who ever said he sounded drunk, lmao i just laughed at that lol.

the TRUTH broke his left hand in the first round, but that is no excuse for not unleashing his MuayThai kicks and knees.
I used to be fan of his too.I bet my lil bro $20 on his fight against Werdum.Fabricio by sub. in the 2nd.

If Vera loses to Werdum, he probably will drop to 205. However, if he wins, he’ll get the winner of the big Nog vs. Mir fight. Either way, it’s a win-win situation for him because he would be a very big LHW, like Forrest and Jardine.

by UFCAddict on May 14, 2008 9:55 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The Nog vs. Mir fight is still a ways away. I think the winner of Vera/Werdum should have to beat Herring before getting a title shot.

by Pat on May 14, 2008 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

man, how tall is Vera? they have him listed at 6’2" but i swear when he was next to Sylvia he looked at least 6’3" or something…cant wait to see Werdum up next to Vera.

by spawn@spawn.net on May 14, 2008 11:18 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

In Vera’s case…i think the HW division is a lot LESS competitive than the LHW division. Vera could very well go 2-0 in the HW division and get a title shot…

but would probably have to go at least 6-0 at 205 before anybody even notices.

i think, probability-wise, he’s got a better shot at stringing 3 wins in a row at HW than winning about 6 in a row at LHW.

by Spawn on May 14, 2008 12:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs
