link about affliction card posted 5/9. this card looks good, but IMO, won’t happen, and if it does will bankrupt the company

Isnt a Hexagon supposed to have 5 sides? A sexagon would be a 6 sided one…. What idiots!!! lol
by john on May 9, 2008 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
john. . . Ummm, a pentagon has five sides. . . so hexagon is the right term. . . I think you just wanted to right “sex” in a post. lol.

hahaha sexagon? nice one, sounds like mma meets porn if a sexagon even existed, but it doesnt.

John: A pentagon has 5 sides. A hexagon has 6.

I actually hate the cage. Seems more barbaric than a ring. I suspect it would be harder to press someone into a ring than it is the side of a cage – i remember yelling at my tv during the silva/vera fight…
Shoving against the ring while doing footstomps isnt my idea of action.
Adding a Rope-a-dope element into the mix might not be a bad idea.
by jerrolds on May 9, 2008 3:19 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Barbaric? don’t you mean more challenging than the three roped ring? if the cage is lined with barbed wires or fences are electrified then yeah that’s barbaric.
by jerkoff on May 9, 2008 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i dunno – im retarded, i just hate footstomps (serra vs anyone) and being pushed up against the cage (vera/silva)
but that probably has to do more than the fighters
barbaric was probably the wrong word too – i just meant that animals are caged, and that the cage was more of an artifact from the old UFC days where it was more of a spectacle than a sport.

I hate the rings. That was the only thing that I ever disliked about PRIDE. I can’t stand when they have to move the fighters to the center of the ring, and reset their position, because it was too close to the ropes. It also screwed up more than a few takedowns. Not to mention how budget it looked in PRIDE when you would see all the little hands come up from the side of the ring to keep the fighters from rolling out.

Barbed wire and electrified fences!!! Holy fcuk! I think you’re on to a winner here. Get it done Affliction…Fedor will then lose by cut against Tim.

I’ve always thought a cage was better for MMA than a ring. There’s a lot less stoppage.
by Pat on May 9, 2008 3:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
totally bro! ring fights suck!! thats why i cant stand watching bodog fights. everytime a guy’s trying to pass guard, and they get too close to the ropes, they stop the fight. it gets to u after the first 50 times!
by CBfighter on May 9, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ya you got a point there…stopping/resetting in Pride was pretty common.
by jerrolds on May 9, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yup agree. plus they can pressed against the cage easier. Serra would’ve fell out the ring against GSP. lol
by kama kaze on May 9, 2008 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i also prefer the cage but as far as rings go if your going to use one this looks better than a boxing ring.
by roy on May 9, 2008 3:58 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i only watch the ifl for horidecki all the other fighters are gone
by dcsoldier187 on May 9, 2008 4:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
why can’t they use the octagon like UFC. it adds more speculation and gladiator feel to it. maybe the cages are more expensive than the rings that could be why IFL are keeping their budget limited.
by jerkoff on May 9, 2008 4:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The Octagon is actually owned by Zuffa. No one else can use it.

lol IFL is going to go under really quick and HCF just died. hopefully EXC is next!
by sbud on May 9, 2008 4:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
is it official that HCF is dead?
if so thats to bad they just signed Babalu a while back.
by the Levi on May 12, 2008 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
4, 5, 6 sides won’t make a difference since the IFL isn’t a very good product. The ropes vs. the cage is what makes the difference becuase the guys fall through the rope whice results in a reset. That is what makes the fights hard to watch, lack of flow.

doesnt the TNA wrestling show already have a ring like this, i see it before TUF comes on.
Kinda a rip off. i dont really like rings with ropes for mma fights.
by tony dollar on May 9, 2008 5:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
TNA are going to sue! ;-)
A 6 sided ring in Pro Wrestling kinda works. In MMA – please, no. Just no. Same with PRIDE’s old 8 sided ring.
by SixT-4 on May 9, 2008 5:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
PRIDE never had an eight sided ring just the 4 sided roped ring.
by jerkoff on May 9, 2008 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i dont give a sh*t either way i’d never watch the IFL if you paid me..
by randy murders on May 9, 2008 5:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m don’t think six sides is a bad idea. I think it is better than 4. But that doesn’t matter:
Ropes suck! Fences are good.
*Stopping fights to reposition people is stupid.
*Forcing the referee to go over and step on the rope to give it more tension is stupid. Why would you ask the referee to manipulate the ring during the fight? Shouldn’t he be focusing on refereeing.
Any MMA organization that starts off not using some type of fenced area already has one big stike against it in my book.
All they need now is a Yamma lip and they are set.
by DonnyG on May 9, 2008 6:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
How bout a 6 sided cage instead of an 8 sided cage? Or how bout a regular 4 sided ring w/ a cage like WWE? ahhh yeah with electrical wires on top so neither man can escape.
by damaja on May 9, 2008 6:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Electrical wires on top? I know you’re joking but fighters don’t climb up the fence to the top, only in WWE.
by jerkoff on May 9, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If you knew he was joking, why the hell are you taking it seriously???

I hope to see some climbing on those turnbuckles… I so wanna see some flying bombs over there at the IFL show.
I heard that some Japanese fighter soon will join, he is going to wear a copy of Machoman Randy Savage suit (no NOT the original!).

The IFL’s problem isn’t the ring shape. I doubt this new ring will save them.
They just started off with a really crappy idea when most people where still getting their head around the sport – they made many many mistakes along the way and ended up in the position they’re in. Now they’re coming up with gimmicks not to put on a good show, but because they’re desperately trying to do anything to save their company from going bust, which seems inevitable considering their stock is at 4 cents.
