Frank Mir: Brock Lesnar is like a Clydesdale (Video)

Mir is also asked about a potential gig as coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), which he refuses to answer. However, he doesn't do so with his best poker face.

Sound works fine my way..(try volume)j/k.

Good video..Mania you are right about that “porker face” of Mir’s….

i saw this yesterday and frank is well “quite frank” about his thoughts. it will be interesting ro see how his story plays out with everything that has happened to him.

by b.w. on May 8, 2008 9:31 AM EDT reply actions

You do you think the next coaches will be? Mir and Nog? I’d like to see Mir as a coach, I think he’d be great at it, seems like a very bright guy and very well spoken. He’s a good communicator and that is crucial as a good coach, ala Randy Couture.

by JRK on May 8, 2008 9:43 AM EDT reply actions

I wish Frank well, but he was getting destroyed by Lesner. It was Lesner’s inexperience that lost him that fight. If they fought again I would still put my money on Lesner. I am not a Lesner fan before anybody says anything, that is just the way that I saw it. I will be more convinced when he fights a more credible experienced fighter.

by Ade on May 8, 2008 9:45 AM EDT reply actions

ill second that.personally i think it was a stitch-up (hope im not being paranoid)but ive never seen a point deducted without a warning.mir was turning his back and turtling so doesnt that count as a unverbal tap?brock looked good and till he gets some experience i think only good bjj guys will beat him.i think everyone else gets gnp or slammed through the mat!

by SCOTT on May 8, 2008 10:03 AM EDT up reply actions

There was a warning. It wasn’t heard over the crowd.

by jess on May 8, 2008 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions

I know where you’re coming from. Standing them up after that one accidental punch in the back of the head was total BS.

That said, it was superior BJJ that lost him that fight.

by TonyDrip on May 8, 2008 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

True. Brock had the fight, but let it slip through his fingers due to inexperience. No shame in losing to Mir though, and I respect him for taking on such a tough opponent in only his second fight.

I think Mir has the perfect personality as a figure for mma. He is very respectful and speeks well of his opponents. I just hope that he continues to work on being more consistent in his fights. He definately has the talent.

by naturalshadow on May 8, 2008 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

If they put nog as a coach i am gonna boycott. STOP HAVING CHAMPS AS COACHES!!!! I hate how they are slowing down the whole championship fights situation. Dana is losing a lot of fans. Myself included. And did anyone watch the fights on TUF lastnight. Anyone of those guys would get murdered by a Leben or even “Tupperware” McCarthy for that matter. What a talentless group of retards they got this year. Dana you need to wise up and realize that no one wants to see a champ defend his belt once a year. This is ridiculous.

by Spider Style on May 8, 2008 10:03 AM EDT reply actions

The UFC is not losing fans trust me for everyone they loose they gain 4.

by Emanuel0523 on May 9, 2008 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions

If there is any title that can be put on hold, it is the Heavyweight title. There aren’t enough contenders. Everyone screams Arlovski, but is he even signed yet?

I also think the middleweight title can be put on hold, or have Silva and Okami as coaches, One speaking Brazilian, one speaking Japanese, lol that would be different.

by Getrawbc on May 9, 2008 7:59 AM EDT up reply actions

No title should ever be put on hold for any reason other than an injury. To film a TV show is just stupid and a disrespect to the fans.

by SpiderStyle on May 9, 2008 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know how anybody could dislike Mir. He’s bright, articulate and knowledgeable. I still say he’s the best color commentator out there, better than Bas, better than Rogan and even better than Bill Goldberg. As far as Lesnar goes, he’s going to crush Coleman in less than 2 minutes, then move on to more relevant fighters and start working his way up.

by PW on May 8, 2008 10:16 AM EDT reply actions

Yeh it’s obviously a battle of the wrestlers, and i think Brock takes that…Not sure why Coleman is even making the comeback??

Not sure that Coleman will be quick or fit enough for Brock.

by ToeLock on May 8, 2008 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions

You say you’re not sure. I’m going to say “I’m 100% sure” Coleman won’t be faster, stronger, more in shape than Lesnar. Now that said, everyone has a chance to win a fight, I’m not counting Coleman out. But IMO his chances of getting out of the first round are pretty slim. The only thing he’s going to have is a better tan.

by Big Jake on May 8, 2008 11:09 AM EDT up reply actions

dana is haveing brock fight coleman so he can say how brock beat a ufc hof and blah blah,,i dont know bout u people but id be more impressed if brock beat say eddie sanchez then that has-been mark im 99years old coleman

ps-frank mir taps out big nog for the title

by murphylee on May 8, 2008 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

You think a noguiera will be subbed?

by jerrolds on May 8, 2008 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions

are you CRAZY!!!! their is no WAY that mir will tap out noguiera.. he’s literally the best heavy weight on the ground their is.. and he has MUCH more experience than mir… it would be a great match. but nog all the way… he gave anderson silva is black belt !!

by Ricky on May 8, 2008 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir can’t hold Nog’s jock. This is the same guy who was slaughtered by Vera, Pe De Pano, and Ian Freeman. The same guy who gassed against Wes Simms and barely sqeaked by. Nog would outstrike the hell out of him, and sub him in the 2nd, after Mir gasses.

by yohnstoppable on May 8, 2008 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Everybody on here is busy getting charmed by the guy, failing to realize Mir got bailed out by the refs when Brock was going gorilla ape sh*t on him. remember that?

by kama kaze on May 8, 2008 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Yohn, he’s also the same guy who snapped Sylvia’s arm (wihle Tim was roiding, no less) instead of getting beaten all over the ring for two rounds before choking him. I’m not saying Mir is better than Nog or vice versa, but Mir is as skilled on the ground as any HW, and a sub victory is hardly out of the question.

by PW on May 8, 2008 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, you mean the same fight where Sylvia took Mir down, because he’s an idiot? The only one even close to top 10 Mir has beaten in his career? ya, I know the fight you’re talking about

if Werdum and Fedor, 2 guys way better on the ground than mir, can’t sub nog, then Mir can’t. And if Mir can’t sub Nog (which he can’t), then he’ll have to go 5 rounds with him. Mir can’t last 3 rounds, much less 5. He’ll get subbed after he gasses and gets battered on the feet.

by yohnstoppable on May 8, 2008 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

money I’m sure, Coleman is going to milk it for all it’s worth. It’s too bad he didn’t learn all the MMA he could and basically stuck with the old GnP. Not only is he old, his style hasn’t evolved much.

I wish him the best though, he’s one of the last pioneers of the sport and still fighting at a respectable level.

by THORAZINE on May 9, 2008 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

“Even better than Bill Goldberg” LMAO – No $h!T, he is terrible. Bas is the most entertaining of the color commentators, and Randy was the most knowledgable – guy alway predicted the winner.

All that aside – would love to see Mir fight AA for # 1 contender, but doesn’t look that will happen. I, like most people, will be pissed if Nog & Mir are the next coaches. That would make a year before Nog defends again. Not a good idea, especially when the UFC needs to bolster the HW division, not put it on the backburner. Note to Dana – SIGN BIG NAME HEAVYWEIGHTS – dont waste a year showing us crappy fighters on TUF.

by efisher on May 8, 2008 11:12 AM EDT reply actions

Mir vs AA would be awesome. What if they made those two coaches? AA has much better english than Nog so on-air he would be able to show more personality. No title on hold this way either(except for finding a reasonable fight for Nog in the meantime). It may be a good way to entice AA to re-sign also. Maybe that is something they are working out contractually and why the delaying announcement of him going anywhere.

by PJJ on May 8, 2008 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir gave it away just by his response.

by Willy on May 8, 2008 11:16 AM EDT reply actions

yes he kind of did. but not for sure about nog. winner of vera/werdum deserves it before mir. i like mir (who doesnt) buthe doesnt deserve the title shot yet. arlovski as well deserves it more, he beat werdum, cruz and obrien. not stellar names but 3 wins in a row nonetheless.

by b.w. on May 8, 2008 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Mir he’s very well spoken! a true gent!

by braveheart on May 8, 2008 12:15 PM EDT reply actions

This sucks…Nog a coach, is great for exposure but terrible because it holds up the title. At least have him defend the title once before putting it on hold.

by john on May 8, 2008 12:24 PM EDT reply actions

maybe we’ll be lucky, find out Arlofski is the other coach and he and mir will fight at the finale to decide who takes on the champ.

by kitsunex on May 8, 2008 12:29 PM EDT up reply actions

That would be great but will never happen. A fight between those two would only be on ppv.

by Bobby O'shea on May 8, 2008 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree. I love the idea of US fans getting to know more about Nog, but I don’t want to see it hold up the HW title. If they wanted him to get exposure and coach they should have done it right after he was signed by he UFC so the fans could get to know him and it wouldn’t hold up the belt.

by GregC on May 8, 2008 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Except we’d never understand a word anybody said.

by PW on May 8, 2008 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions

totally agree! i love tuf and look forward to seeing a new fight every week. but this holding up the titles is becoming ridiculous. this shows rankings is on the decline anyway, and this might be the best season as far as good even fights are concerened. they dont need to have title fighters to coach to sell ppvs. maybee we’ll get lucky and it will be mir/a.a. as coaches and nog will fight the winner of vera/werdum soon.

by b.w. on May 8, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I know what you mean John…but if any title can be held up at the moment it’s the HW title…IMO all the other weight “divisions” (cheers VM lol) need a good run as there are too many good fights to be had, ESP in LW and LHW.

by ToeLock on May 8, 2008 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Forgot to add…..that’s on the basis that the UFC wants Title scenarios involved in the TUF plots…Which i agree sucks

by ToeLock on May 8, 2008 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir is great. “He’s(Brock) just a big massive guy, it’s hard to explain till you’ve seen him in person. And I got to grapple with him and get punched by him so that was great.”
Lol!
I wish Mir was my dad.

by Landowner on May 8, 2008 12:45 PM EDT reply actions

As far as commentators go my favorite team ever was Bas and Quadros hands down. It kind of perturbed me to hear Frank say there wasn’t any other heavies besides Fedor who weren’t in the UFC. WTF is he sparking?? How about Randy, Josh Barnett, Aleks? Even Mark Hunt is waaaay further along in his progression than Brock. I’m sorry Frank is a likeable guy but hasn’t had a quality win in four years, no, submitting Hardonk and a green Lesnar don’t count. The losses to Pe de Pano and Vera were embarassing. If he gets a title shot it would prove how weak this division has become with the loss of Timmy and possibly Andrei.

by Mrs.Featherbottom on May 8, 2008 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

man I can’t wait to see MIR vs. NOG for the belt. I really hope the UFC doesn’t make Nog a coach. I wanna see this fight ASAP.there is nobody else that deserves a shot at big Nog right now.

by the Levi on May 8, 2008 2:21 PM EDT reply actions

How have you worked out that Mir deserves a shot at Nog? He’s a long way off from that unless he gets lucky the way Forrest did to get a fight with Ramapge. Nog would destroy Mir and I think Herring and Kongo would as well.

by Ade on May 8, 2008 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not sure who really deserves the 1st shot at heavyweight, there’s a list of heavyweight fighters that are only skilled in one area of MMA. The heavyweight division is lacking in talent and exciting contenders for the belt. A fight between Mir and Nog will probably attract more fans. Probably be a boring fight though, both guys rolling around on the ground with a little hammer fisting here and there.

by THORAZINE on May 9, 2008 12:18 AM EDT up reply actions

i hope mir coaches on tuf 8, i dunno who will coach opposite to him maybe noguiera or… arlofski !!! how sick would that be?, but mir is a well spoken knowledgable dude. At the same time, I hope lesnar gets a rematch with him. Their fight was a lot closer than people give lesnar credit for and i think a rematch is more than marketable.

everybody’s out there talking smack about WWE fake athletes making a transition to mma and getting crushed. Mir said it himself that lesnar was a lot stronger than he thought and he was winning the stand up. Mir used his bjj and got the leg lock. lesnar is still new to the sport, and once he gets more experience he’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the hw division.

Since when does beating a fighter with one pro fight instantly catipult someone into title contention? It would be an absolute travesty if Mir gets the title shot. He lost to Brandon Vera not to long ago. And if Vera wins and doesn’t get the shot it would be criminal. If Werdum beats Vera then Arlovski should get the shot. If Werdum wins and the UFC doesn’t sign Arlovski (worst case senario) Werdum should probibly get the shot or maby Heath Herring could be in that mix. At any rate I don’t even see Mir as a title possibility at this point. Sorry Frank, you will probibly need one more win over a contender before you get a shot at the title.

by DB on May 8, 2008 4:21 PM EDT reply actions

“You can get cut.. retarded.”

High quality. I’m a fan of Frank. He’ll get his title shot, and I think he’ll win it too.

by Craig on May 8, 2008 4:33 PM EDT reply actions

If Brock works on his stand up, then he will be a pretty solid fighter. He is extremely hard to take down due to his wrestling background and has a reach as long as tim sylvias. He still needs to work on his submission defense though.

by RyanHobbs on May 8, 2008 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

how about after the coleman fight they have ufc 90: battle of the beasts (lesnar vs kongo) that match up would be dynamite!

by markg on May 8, 2008 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Mir will win his next fight and so will Brock. Nog will fight probably once before he fights Mir. Brock will be fed non-bjj people to crush and build him up for a rematch with mir. If kimbo comes over he will fight Brock.
The only way to beat someone like Brock is with ju jitsu. It is the only art that a wayyy smaller guy can use to win against an animal.

by hatteras on May 8, 2008 9:40 PM EDT reply actions

Mir would make the best HW coach, and it would be nice if the UFC would throw some new HW blood into the TUF series. If Nog is the other coach, he’s going to need a translator to coach his team.
