Ultimate Iceman: Chuck Liddell to debut on Spike TV on May 31

Spike TV will "salute" former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell during a special hour-long world television premiere of "Ultimate Iceman: Chuck Liddell" on Saturday, May 31 at 9 p.m. ET.
In addition, the debut of "Liddell vs. Silva: UFC Unleashed -- Special Edition" will follow immediately afterward at 10 p.m. ET, creating a Memorial Day "homage" for the most popular fighter in the promotion.
Of course, Liddell and Silva battled it out in an epic three-round war at UFC 79: "Nemesis" in December 2007, which "Iceman" won via unanimous decision. According to a recent press release, the segment will include backstage bonus footage prior to the 205-pound tilt.
Liddell was expected to take on Rashad Evans in the main event at UFC 85: "Bedlam" at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7. However, he had to recently withdraw from the contest because of a torn hamstring and the card has since been significantly reshuffled to offset the loss of star power.
It was not mentioned if this was already in the works for some time to hype the UFC 85 pay-per-view (PPV) event that takes place seven days later; however, the timing appears to reflect that type of thinking.
Regardless, should be cool night of free mixed martial arts programming worth checking out in addition to the MMA network debut of Elite XC on CBS.

This is just a UFC grab for ratings. This “just happens” to be the same night as the EliteXC fights on CBS. It’s cool and all, but don’t think there isn’t marketing behind it. Personally I’d rather watch live fights over recorded ones anyway.

I’ll be watching EliteXC – No Doubt about it.
Dana just wishes that Chuck was still champ and wants to make all the money he can off of him before he retires.
In my estimation, he is one beatdown from Rampage away from retiring.

Hopefully Shogun should be able to do that next

After a lose to Forrest Griffin and 2 major knee surgeries, Shogun has about as much chance of beating Chuck as Fred Ettish.

Don’t kid yourselves if you think that Dana is going to be watching the Iceman interview/fight on Spike. He will be sitting with the Fertitta’s watching Kimbo fight. He may be the one arranging for Spike to show this “Chuck is the greatest thing to ever happen to the world” show but he will be more interested in what goes on at CBS that night.

So UFC will be airing a Liddell special feature at the same exact time as CBS/EXC’s first event on network TV.

So, it’s either watch fights, or watch Liddell talk about himself and how good he is. Hmm, tough one. lol
by Toms Bombs on May 7, 2008 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
watch the fights , but dont disrespect chuck , he does not talk about himself, he answers questions , we need more warriors like the iceman, war chuck getting the title back

I dont know if this is old or not but I thought I would pass it along. Here is a Link to watch Jake Sheilds black belt ceremony from ceaser Gracie:
http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f61/jake-shields-black-belt-ceremony-777692/
Also DREAM 4 main event has been confirmed:
Jerrome Le Banner vs. Cro Cop. Hopefully the RIGHT cro cop shows up and it turns into a good brawl. Its under mma rules, so I hope cro cop doesnt get sneaky and take him down and try to use his advanced white belt level ju jitsu against Le Banner lol.
I just want to see these two BANG IT OUT again!

No disrespect to the ICEMAN, I just think its a pretty petty and pathetic move by the UFC to try and spoil EliteXC’s groundbreaking event on CBS. Its actually funny.
Sorry but free MMA, TRUMPS EVERYTHING!!! Even Chuck Liddell interviews (which we all know he loves doing lol).
I want to see how Kimbo conducts himself and how he is portayed on national television. I hope Gary Shaw realizes that he has a big responsability to the growth of the sport by being in the position his company is in….Lets hope this baboon doesnt mess it up.
Its a crucial time in American mma. Arizona just passed a bill to sanction MMA, and we all know that they are trying to get it passed in New York. MMA on CBS will catch the eyes of the law makers, hopefuully Shaw and CBS do the sport justice!

I’ve been a Rampage fan since he was in PRIDE, so I will have to disagree with you on Liddell being champ again. No one’s taking that belt from Rampage anytime soon my friend.

Maybe Chuck will start training knees in the Thai clinch with Wandy, but I doubt it. haha

Chuck called out Kimbo which I thought was pretty lame. That’s like BJ calling out, oh I dunno, Mayhem. You don’t call out guys that are out of your league, that’s just not cool.

Liddell is still the man. It’s a must watch fight for anyone who hasn’t seen it.

Yes but much like the movies Titanic and Passion of the Christ, we already know how it ends.

I own the DVD seen it, its like a biography tpye thing, its OK to watch if your a fan if the Iceman, but nothing too special. Liddell/Silva was good but its all over youtube and the internet for free. I’ll be tuning in to watch Kimbo and see how he does.

Sorry Dana, I’d rather watch EliteXC on CBS.

I can’t believe there are son many people on this site that don’t have a DVR. Watch both and fast forward commercials. No brainer.
by bnf on May 7, 2008 1:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Seriously! The DVR is the greatest thing to happen to television viewing in the last 30 years. If you like to watch stuff on TV then you should get one.
I’ll watch EXC live and watch the Chuck thing some time later in the week.

I’m going to watch CBS and record the Chuck special, I could watch a replay of the Chuck vs Silva a 100 times.
by Haze on May 7, 2008 1:59 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
True, that may be my favorite fight of all time.
by naturalshadow on May 7, 2008 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
When you see all the retrospectives, you can tell a fighter’s career is winding down. The last Spike fighter special was on Randy, and then he broke with the UFC. Chuck is damn near finished. He’s had a good career, but age and injuries have closed the book on him.
Ryosuke, you need to take your second-rate high school Spanglish somewhere else.
by Fred on May 7, 2008 1:59 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
true, I give Chuck 3 more fights MAX and thats if hes winning….If he loses the next fight, look for him to retire early.
by Chadx23 on May 7, 2008 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t want to see him retire before he faces Shogun.
by Pat on May 7, 2008 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i m gonna watch elite as well and dvr this. this will most likely reair a few more times on spike so everone can watch both.

I actually own this DVD. It’s pretty good. Tito comes off looking like a big baby.
by riverhorror on May 7, 2008 2:18 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The UFC probably had another version with Tito looking humble just in case he got back on good terms with Dana before the DVD release lol.
by Pat on May 7, 2008 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Good luck grabbing viewers away from the Elite XC show. Even the people who have been hatin on Kimbo are going to tune in and watch him fight. Chuck Liddell himself is gonna be watching that fight. All the world shall shut down to watch Kimbo Slice fight.
by Craig on May 7, 2008 2:24 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
YES! Craig just said it. Even CHUCK HIMSELF will be watching Kimbo Slice fight live on CBS. That is a fact.
From the last outburst by Liddell on Kimbo, it seems like Chuck follows Kimbo’s career very closely. Either that, or he was best friends with Big D back in the day…
by ViolentMike on May 7, 2008 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly. It’s the same thing with Lesnar. He has his fans, but there are also people who tune in b/c they want to him lose. That makes him very marketable.
by Pat on May 7, 2008 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i’d watch the Chuck rerun over the Gina Carano fight and possibly the some of the early fights. Watching girls fight doesn’t do it for me. O yea the Kimbo E60 last night was weak. It should’ve been chuck on ESPN getting the glory. lol @ Tito was talking smack about Kimbo like he wanted some.
by kama kaze on May 7, 2008 3:13 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Well if Elite XC blows you can always change the channel and watch some UFC. Also, I have seen the Iceman documentry and it’s really interesting, so if you haven’t seen it then you shouldn’t talk shit. Plus, Elite XC always airs past recorded fights on Showtime whenever the UFC has a pay-per-view event, so stop bitching.
by Greg on May 7, 2008 3:33 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Funny how Dana says he’s not afraid of any other promotion but this special just happens to air on the same nite and time as the 1st Elite xc show. what a shock!!!! Dana is as transparent as scotch tape, lol.
by Bobby O'shea on May 7, 2008 4:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Maybe all the UFC fans will tune in to watch this “special” but the MMA fans will be watching CBS on that night. Good try Dana. Maybe you should realize that interest in Chuck isn’t as great as you think. He was good in his day but the times they are a changin’.
by SpiderStyle on May 7, 2008 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
shitty thing to do, like people are really gonna see a chuck lidell special instead of free cbs prime time coverage of some good fights,
by bryant on May 7, 2008 4:29 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
For someone who says there are no competitors to the UFC, Dana White is sure trying to steal EliteXC’s thunder with this move.
by rhv on May 7, 2008 5:30 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Is Dana in charge of programming at Spike all of a sudden? This is just as much Spike trying to protect their cash cow as Dana giving two hoots about EliteXC.
by The_Bantam on May 7, 2008 5:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good point about Spike but I think Dana has more to lose.
People want to see MMA regardless of what channel it’s on (as the posts here indicate). Plus, I don’t think Spike considers CBS to be too much of a competitor unless CBS owns other channels that do compete with Spike. Or if Spike is owned by someone that does compete with CBS… Anyway… Who knows…
I bet DW is directly involved in this kind of programming and the schedule of programming when it concerns the UFC. If not DW, then someone he works for.

“If not DW, then someone he works for.” I meant, if not DW then someone that works for him.

Who the hell is still interested in the ice man. They should do a special on one of the current champs. This guy is so boring, Jeezus! Everyone will be watching the live fights as mentioned above.

I have watched the Liddell Silva fight a hundred times and I have the Iceman DVD so I will be watching Elite XC. If Dana wants to kill their ratings then he needs to have UFC fight nights the same nights Elite XC is on CBS. This actually is kind of pothetic on Dana’s part. Seems to me Elite XC is kind of intimidating him.

People touched a nerve with howie heh? yes howie, most people are tired of the dana/chucky relationship. Who ever said dana is like scotch tape, lol and soo true. and yes, MMA fans will be watching fights on CBS not glorified specials about danas favorite puppet.
SO heres to you howie and dana,
waaa waaa..sniff sniff..waaaaaa waa gary shaw cant beat me, i hate that guy kimbo waaaa waa i want to continue monopolizing MMA waaaa waaa
