MMA Quick Quote: Nick Diaz might need a doctors note for round two with KJ Noons

nick diaz

"I think that’s ridiculous. When you have the title you don’t, you can’t dodge anybody and why would the Diaz camp think I am dodging him? I gave him plastic surgery, on his face. That’s a fact. As long as he can get a doctor’s note, sure whatever, round two."

-- EliteXC Lightweight Champion KJ Noons responds to Nick Diaz's camp claiming he's ducking him by not giving him an immediate rematch for the belt in a recent interview with MMAYou.com to respond. Noons is defending his title for the first time against Yves Edwards on June 14 in Honolulu, Hawaii instead. That fight will air on Showtime.

Something about Noons bothers me. I dont know, he just rubs me the wrong way. I hope to see Diaz get back to his winning ways soon and dominate the rematch. Should be a good rematch. I’m sure they’ll be tons of trash talk like this all the way until it happens.

MAN, I miss work for one day, and “Mr. KJ Noons” is running his mouth about Nick Diaz? WTF Does this kid know who he is, and does he know who Nick is? I will be the first to admit the Nick Diaz is right up there with my #1 favorite fighters, so I’m a lil biased, but I’ll try not to be.

Ever since the fight of Nick’s life, the Gomi fight of course, he just has not been the same. The fight against Mike Aina – that decision could have EASILY went to the hometown favorite, Mike Aina. I was actually suprised that Nick won. The fight against Noon’s, again Nick did not look like himself. KJ was OWNING HIM. Nick can take a fight to the ground when he needs to, and KJ is not an experienced MMA guy, he is a boxer, so how can his sprawl be so great already. And if he’s sprawling, then clinch and trip. The cuts did not lose Nick that fight – although a late Diaz submisstion is always a possibility. I was actually worried that this lil punk KJ was going to be the first fighter to KO Nick Diaz – that would be a shame. If KJ at his best fought Nick at his best, Nick would win 10 times out of 10.

For KJ Noons to think that he caused Nick to get the surgery is just ridiculous, and shows how inexperinced Noons is. Nick’s plastic surgery involved the removal of scar tissue that was built up over years – NOT one fight. If Nick had to get facial reconstuction (Rich Franklin-like) surgery, than that would be a different story.

Simply put, Nick has not been himself since the No Contenst with Gomi. I am sure that all of this talk about him smoking trees is really stressing him out – and that’s one of the main reasons he smokes to begin with – to calm down due to stress. Nick had a scheduled fight at the last EliteXC event but couldn’t fight due to medical marijuana license. Everyone else in his camp is super motivated and on a roll. His brother Nate is won of the hottest 155 lb fighters in the stacked division – he’s yet to lose in the UFC. Gilbert Melendez the Strikeforce LW champ looks unstoppable at 155. Outside of BJ Penn, I can’t think of many 155’s that would beat him regularly. I really hope that a lot of you saw that StrikeForce on NBC episode that featured Melendez vs Clay Guida. Jake Shields has been tearing it up and finishing his fights. He’s basically the ‘uncrowned’ WW champ of EliteXC. Gilbert and Jake are not only ready to compete in the UFC, but they’d be instant contenders.

But what is wrong with Nick? Once upon a time, he was the top Cesar Gracie fighter. I don’t think that the weed alone is enough to make Nick fight the way he’s been. I think that there must be something else going on in his life that he does not mention. He’s not one to make excuses, but he also doesn’t like to give credit to a fighter when he gets beat.

I would love to see a rematch between Noons and Diaz and would love the trash talk just as much. However, the fight will not be going down anytime soon – because Noons will lose to Yves Edwards.

This is the second time typing this post, I got some Lotus Notes Pop up window that erased my 90% finished post the first time so I most likely left some stuff out…

Even if he is dodging him its moot because Yves is going to crush him anyway. Im pumped for the Edwards vs Diaz title fight.

by EazyEismydad on May 5, 2008 7:31 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

im a diaz fan, but why in the world would kj give him an immediate rematch. He doesnt deserve it, he should have to beat someone else then go for the championship. I just dont get wat diaz is thinking here. noons won fair and square.

by longislandguy on May 5, 2008 7:59 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he won due to a cut…. thats ot really fair and square in my book !

Not the way any of us fans want a fight to be stopped. But them’s the rules and that is a strategy used by many fighters.

As a champion you cannot let the opponent give you a rematch, only the opponent has to climb back up the ladder and get himself a rematch.

by jerkoff on May 5, 2008 8:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Exactly!!!! Why should he get an immediate rematch??? Work your way back up there smokey. HE gave no respect to Noons after losing that fight. Nothign but a classless fighter. Elite XC is crap anyway so maybe Diaz deserves to be the champ of crap.

by RiverHorror on May 5, 2008 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Noons is a really good boxer but he is no MMA champ. An on point Diaz would crush Noons. An on point Edwards is going to crush Noons and then we will have two real Mixed Martial Artists go at it. Crazy Horse Bennet laid him out fast as all hell. He really did not do that well against Edsion Berto even though he got a KO with a knee. For a boxer in the MMA world he really has no KO power. He Split cuts on Diaz and yes he did hurt him but I really do not feel he could last at all even with a halfway game Diaz.

I dont know if Id be counting out Noons. Guy has spirit and talent. I dont see him dominating Edwards, be he can win. Yves Edwards is one of my favorite fighters too. Gonna be fun to watch.

hey luppers, since you think gina carano is such a talant, go read this article. This woman says she has hit 170, and that elite has a 140 pound division (which really isn’t a weight class) just for carano cause she has such a hard time making weight. And no, I’m not trying or have te power to set up a fight, and my wife is a caesar gracie blue belt. I was just commenting that carano gets publicity cause she’s cute!

Not cute, kevin. Hot. Very Hot!

yeah at weigh ins with 30 pounds cut, i agree. See the pictures when she’s not training? The triangle guys want to be in may knock you out before it chokes you out if you get what I mean!! But yeah, at fighting weight, she’s hot

by kevin on May 5, 2008 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope DIAZ shuts this klown up for good! When Diaz is on top of his game and minus the scar tissue…Noons woyuld have nothing on him. Sure KJ can box, but once the fight hits the ground Nick will end it by something EXOTIC. just to show off!

by john on May 5, 2008 9:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hey John, saw your Kimbo post, and believe me, I agree. He is an infant in this sport, and my point is, all these morons think he’s a good fighter because of youtube and the “let kimbo win” rules that were made up as they went. As much exposure as he’s getting, and(he used to be soft spoken) as much shit he’s talking, put up or shut up! I was on the fence, and leaning towards liking him until now. I agree, almost everyone gets ko’d with a head kick, so say yeah, it happened and I’ll learn from it. Either that or fight an under 40 year old with a winning record. He is just a whore and gary shaw is his pimp, and they will continue to line up cans until the youtube morons demand a fight. We real fans would rather see a guy lose to the best than have a 10 second win against a nobody!

by kevin on May 5, 2008 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kevin: I agree with what u r saying. I am not a kimbo fan, but I am impressed with what he is doing, working with so little. To go from fighting in an alley, to the main event of a cbs card is admirable. As much as i dont think he deserves all the exposure that he is getting, as a marketing student I am very impressed with how he has marketed himself with very litte to work with.

Do I think he should be fighting in a main event on any card? Hell No, unfortunately us Die Hards are in the minority….and all the idiot blood thirsty Americans seem to love this guy.

I like that they are matching him up with the Debt Collector. At least he is fighting a guy, with worldwide experience, thats training at a great camp. But if he beats THompson, its time to test his game against someone with a ground game.

I am sure Kimbo reads what people say on the internet and its hard for a guy to train his ass off, and read so much hate about him, so I understand why he is starting to run his mouth. I never heard him say anything negative about any other fighter until Liddell and Dana started running their mouths about him. So I understand it!

Like you said, this whole Kimbo crap has been created by the YouTube idiots. He probably never even asked to fight in mma, until big offers started being thrown at him.

by john on May 5, 2008 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey, money talks, and they are throwing boat loads at him. He was a nice soft spoken humble guy, and I agree if he wins his next fight he’s got to fight a contender. But who Big foot silva? you saw his last fight right? If Dana would only back up his talk and let one of his guys fight him!!

by kevin on May 5, 2008 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

pretty good comeback, a doctors note. noons was owninig him without the cuts.diaz did not look motivated at all. a rematch might prove a different outcome though. thats if noons get past edwards.

by b.w. on May 5, 2008 10:17 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

So he cut Diaz…who hasn’t!! Nick wasn’t even phased by noons, did he see Nick run to the locker room. I jope he keeps talking, it’s only a matter of time before Diaz beats him, and elite is due for a really exciting fight. On a side note, anyone know if comcast carries hdnet??

by kevin on May 5, 2008 10:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i watched this fight live and like i quoted above noons was dominating him w/out the cuts. diaz tried for the takedown quite a few times and was unsucsessful. diaz did not look like his usual self that night i will give him that, but as far as the 1rst fight is concerned he got beat fair and square. nick needs to back it up w/ his fists not his mouth. his litle brother nate is the diaz to watch out for now.

by b.w. on May 5, 2008 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wasn’t even phased? Did you even watch the fight? Noons dropped him, and was tagging him the entire fight. Very one-sided, and the only people who think Diaz has earned a shot are just blind nuthuggers. Hell, he should have lost the fight before Noons as well.

Getting your ass stomped into the ground does NOT merit a rematch. If that is the case, then why didn’t any of you bitch when Leben didn’t get a rematch vs Anderson Silva?

by yohnstoppable on May 5, 2008 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

kevin,

I used to have comcast and they did not carry HDNet. I have Dish now and I do have HDNet fights and Sho specifically for MMA and Shobox. You will get Inside MMA and decent fights (smaller shows and for now IFL) … I just watched Dream 1 and 2.

If you go to the HDNet site, here is their Comcast statement:
http://www.hd.net/nocarry_comcast.html

Go to http://www.hd.net/subscribe.html and see who carries it.

by SaVaGe on May 5, 2008 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

thanks man, I have showtime for elite and brotherhood only. I saw on sherdog a petition for hdnet to come to comcast

by kevin on May 5, 2008 6:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey Savage: I have Dish Network…Do I need to have HD in order to get HDNet? What channel is it on the dish? I cant seem to find it!

by john on May 5, 2008 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

msut have HD to get HDnet John. Pay for the HD package and automatically get HDnet. But Comcast nolonger carries it where I"m at. But AT&T does and I had my neighbor record the DREAM on Friday night, but I was out on Saturday and couldn’t get a hold of him to tape DREAM 2 on Saturday… Now I just got to find an ol’ VCR to bring over there so I can copy from his DVR to VHS. That way I don’t have to watch the fights at a 50 year old married couple’s house….

by ViolentMike on May 6, 2008 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

its pretty obvious that noons doesnt want to fight him again. as far as noons causing him to get plastic surgery is bull. everyone knows why and what nick had done. i think nick was tired of getting cut by fighters hoping for a stoppage. which seems like the gameplan when fighting nick. why does noons care if nick has a doctors note. if noons really thought he was better than nick he would just fight him.

noons stop being a pussy. every time you make a comment about this situation you sound more like a pussy. my money is on yves when noons vs yves comes around.

by MMAMARK on May 5, 2008 11:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

MMAMARK: I would have to agree. I dont even think we will ever get to see a rematch between Noons and Diaz, because Yves is going to take the title from Noons anyway!

So basically Noons is running his mouth, knowing he wont even have to fight Diaz again.

To act like he was the cause of Diaz’s surgery is a bunch of crap…I hope Diaz chokes him out with something exotic if they ever get to rematch….But I really dont think KJ wants anything to do with a rematch!

by john on May 5, 2008 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Noons was obviously beating Diaz, Diaz looked slow for some reason. The plastic surgery was to get rid of a lot of scar tissue Diaz has accumulated over his fights. Now that he’s had the surgery he shouldn’t be so easy to cut. Good’ what professional fighter wouldnt do that if they could?

Diaz will give a much better fight next time, I’m sure.

by THORAZINE on May 5, 2008 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

KJ looked good in the first fight, but I’m going to hold my opinion until I see him fight again.

I think Diaz would have a better reason to complain if Noons was fighting some scrub, but he’s fighting Yves Edwards. It’s hard to fault him for that.

by TonyDrip on May 5, 2008 1:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I hope the referee gets distracted during the rematch, at the exact moment Diaz is putting Noons to sleep so that he can hold the choke seconds longer and we can see KJ’s eyes roll to the back of his head and limbs go limp as he enters hibernation. Rewind, slow mo, different angle close up, slow mo. no comment from Noons because he’s sleeping. shhhh. lol

by kama kaze on May 5, 2008 1:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

lol….did you see diaz get the shit smacked outta him or not?? you really think he`s gonna put Noons to sleep?? u smoke as much weed as Diaz i guess..

by texen_1 on May 5, 2008 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

how much weed i smoke everyday is irrelevant. i should be asking YOU if we saw the same fight cuz there was no shit smacking in that fight whatsoever. please refresh my memory. lol. go ahead and think the guy is the ‘champ’ but its funny to me, not even nodoz laced with crack will keep noons awake in the rematch. nighty night kj :)

I’m glad to see many Diaz supporters here. And even though I’m one too, Diaz’s past two fights have been very lackluster.

He has excellent bjj, boxing and cardio but has lately seemed to throw light jabs throughout the entire fights. He got away with it when he fought Mike Aina but couldn’t with Noons.

Oh, and when a championship fight ends by a cut, a good general rule is that an immediate rematch should be granted to keep the fans happy and to not rob the champion of a shady win and the challenger of a shady loss.

by RHV on May 5, 2008 1:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

How does Diaz deserve an immediate rematch anyway? Noons handed him his ass in the last fight. Diaz had nothing for him at all

by yohnstoppable on May 5, 2008 2:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

a lot of fighters get dominated in the first round but that doesnt mean they are going to lose. Look at Nog for God’s sake.

by texen_1 on May 5, 2008 8:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nick Diaz could be the second coming of Christ and he would still be a very poor sport. His whining and bitching at the cameraman as he headed back to the locker-room after getting his ass handed to him on a plate by Noons showed me his true character. To say that the fight was somehow tainted because Diaz got cut is the height of stupidity. It’s like saying Noons would have beaten Bennet if only he hadn’t gotten knocked out by a stray punch Crazy Horse threw. Noons lost that fight and dealt with it. In the fight with Diaz, Noons stuffed Diaz’s takedown shoot attempts and fed him a knee in the process. Too bad for Nick. Don’t lead with your head next time. Great for Noons.

As for an immediate re-match, let whiner boy work for it. I hope Noons defeats Edwards so that we do see a Noons/Diaz rematch just so that I can read the posts afterwards and laugh at all of the lame excuses that get floated for why Diaz gets beat again. Or not. That’s the beauty of the sport. You never know what’s going to happen. But even if Noons is put to sleep by Diaz I’ll guarantee you that Noons will handle it with a ton more class than Diaz exhibited in his defeat. (He was mad about the stoppage, I know, I know, give me a break. Giving the finger as he departed the arena? To who? Us? Noons? The referee? The judges? The ring girls? What a moron.) Until Nick Diaz changes his pissant attitude and low class behavior his only lasting legacy will be that of a champion of bad examples. No reason even to watch him.

It’s the fighters with the strength and heart to accept that they were bested, for whatever reason, and who congratulate their opponent and deals with it off screen. Camozzi vs. Forbes comes to mind. That was a great fight with two classy warriors. How about a re-match between them?

Time.

Nick got his A S S handed to him…All the fans who are whining here must not have seen the cut right above his right eye, or his left eye shut….I guess to you.. A Blind Diaz is better than losing his title…Get your A S S in the cage with any world class MMA fighter, and tell me if they stopped the fight properly!!
