even though i cannot see this video im sure it is good !tito is still a force to be recconed with! no matter how many people out there hate on him he is still good !!!!! he draws a huge crowd to everything that he does ! he is and has always been a great fighter! i hope he gives machida his first loss and goes to another organization and dominates! good luck tito !

What everyone has missed is the fact that Tito may well be playing the contract game!

Tito is a master of self promotion and knows if he beats Machida he is in a strong bargining position. It wouldn’t suprise me one little bit if he re signed with the UFC.

Tito sells fights, no matter if it is deserved or not there are a few big fights left for Tito in the UFC. Wand vs Tito 2, Rampage vs Tito, Forrest vs Tito 2.

All of those will sell bundles of PPV buys and we all know that Dana has dollar signs in his eyes and sounds of cash registers in his ears.

Could all be a ploy from Tito like Hendo saying he ‘will never’ drop to 185 to get a better contract.

off topic, but is anyone else sick and tired of the champs fighting 2 times a year because TUF is always holding the titles up??? I’m so glad Anderson Silva’s english sucks, at least we can see him fight on a regular basis!

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, who was scheduled to face Justin McCully, has officially been removed from the UFC 86 fight card, according to UFC.com.

Although not officially announced, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) is told that Mir is expected to coach opposite UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on the upcoming eighth season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” An official announcement could be made before UFC 84 later this month.

by kevin on May 2, 2008 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Whats worse than that is reading in-between the lines as Mir gets the first shot at Nog that means Arlovski is gone as he is the only one who deserves a shot.

by Nick J on May 2, 2008 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Is Big Nog’s english good enough to appear on TV every week?

by Jeff on May 2, 2008 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Nog can speak well, plus out of every coach in TUF i would rather have him as my coach, cause imagine what you can learn from him.

by DirtyML on May 2, 2008 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah it annoys me too kevin having to wait. but a fighters personality does go along way(along w/ being an exciting, great fighter) and being able to hear interviews in english means alot being that there fighting here. i like to hear what the fighter has to say in person myself, not always through a translator.

by b.w. on May 2, 2008 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s actually a good question. The coaches don’t really need to fight for it to be a good show. I liked the season with Rich and Hughes and they didn’t fight. I think they should fight somebody at the end of the show, but it doesn’t need to be each other. Two fights are better than one. Also, why couldn’t they at least fight someone else while they are waiting for the season to end to fight each other? Maybe they get injured, or maybe the fight would get postponed for a while, but it is really annoyed to have a top fighter inactive for 6 months. With all the great fighters the UFC has now, there should be a fight every 2 or 3 weeks. Put some free on Spike and some on PPV.

I’m just gonna wait for everyone to say that he won’t be a world champion because he isn’t the champ of the UFC. Being the UFC Champion does not make you a world champion. But at the same time i don’t wanna see it go the way of boxing where they have about 12 champions per weight division. Good luck Tito. You’re style and personality will be sorely missed in the UFC.

by SpiderStyle on May 2, 2008 10:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ummm, wrong, you are not champ unless you beat the best and the best are in the ufc, all the other orgs have ufc washouts, Tito types, and b level wannabes, kimbo types.
You are right about tito’s style and personality being missed though.

by FedorIsaFakor on May 2, 2008 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What you write is simply not true. All of the world’s best MMA fighters are NOT in the UFC. Many fight in rival organizations. Does someone have to list some of them for you?

Fedor
Takanori Gomi
Shinya Aoki
Gilbert Melendez
Josh Barnett

… to name just five.

by Sean F. on May 2, 2008 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

can’t agree less sean, it’s a fact the best guys are in the ufc. Thats like saying the cfl is where all football players should go…

Fedor=hasn’t had a meaningful fight in years
Gomi=ufcchamp beat him
melendez=very talanted, but how would he do in UFC with elbows?
Barnett=cmon man!!

by Joshumma on May 2, 2008 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

kevin is right. the ufc is like the nfl, nba, mlb of mma. that is were every fighter should strive to be. and every new and upcoming fighter you see give an interview always say the ufc is were they want to end up, if not they must not think they are good enough. jake shield is all the time talking about gsp and how to beat him while he is under contract w/ elitexc. guess where he’d rather be fighting? me personally i dont want a bunch of paper champions, an alphabet soup like boxing were there are over a 100 world champs in almost 20 weight divisions. i want 1 unified champ in all weight classes and as i have stated before there is no one even close outside the ufc to being as good as the ufc champs except maybee nog and hisstock is looking better everyday while fedor.randy and barnett? continues to fall.

Sean F., the UFC LHW division is by far the best in the world. How many of those fighters you named are LHW?

by bnf on May 2, 2008 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the ufc has the best lhw’s for sure but the best h.w.‘s are not in the ufc they don’t have fedor, barnett,aa, randy, sylvia they realy only have nog and a couple of good h.w.‘s in the l.w. they have b.j. who is numbner 1 and sherk who is in the top ten and thats it as far as the top ten list of l.w.’s goes.

by roy on May 2, 2008 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah because the Japanese are difficult to deal with! Gomi wants too much money, and personally I think the rankings are tainted with Japanese nuthuggers.

roy what about the wws and the lhws. as far as lws go florian, huerta, stevenson, guida and griffenand nate diaz are no slouches. theres probably soe good names i left off because their are so many.

there great, maybe some of them in the top ten just a few more fights or beat the right guy. its hard to say who is the best or who should be on the list with out them fighting each other all i am saying is there is alot of talent out side of the ufc especially the h.w. devision and the lhw devision they own in or out of the ufc.

the rankings don’t mean alot there different anywhere you go maybe tained like you said but theres alot of ufc nutthugging more than japanese.

I’m the first to reply to Rob in this thread! On the subject, Tito’s antics have really worn thin with me. I won’t miss him. And the only way he’s going to be a world champion is if Vince MacMahon has him beat Edge or Batista or somebody at Fall Brawl or Halloween Havoc.

Kevin: U still think Tito will be back with the UFC? Machida is going to send his ass packing for GOOD! I cant wait to never have a UFC main card slot wasted on this entertainer Tito Ortiz. Its about that time where he starts talking crap and trying to make the Machida fight personal. He will loose and then blame it on his infamous Back, as usual…

Tito the act has gotten very Old…I am on to you. You dont want to really fight, just make your move to the WWE, you will get all the money you want and mma can be rid of another 1 trick pony who has never evolved.

by john on May 2, 2008 10:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

In no way am I a Tito fan!! 7 years ago maybe, I’m just being realistic John. Listen to him, he’s just jockeying for money. He has the talent, but has been more interested in non fighting ventures recently. I’m looking for him to come out with a fire in his eye (like that sherk fans), and win this one convincingly! The ufc will have no choice but to resign him then. Dana and Tito may be annoying punks, but they are both very shrewd good business minds!

by kevin on May 2, 2008 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John, I’ll be the first to say that Tito’s fights as of late have been under par. Wait get Forrest out of there, because he must suck.

Also you either want to be entertained or you don’t but pick one, because sometimes with this entertaining it seems like a way to jump on fighters you don’t like, whether he be good at it or not.

You also are a copy cat of what you hear, because the only person thats said that is Dana. The only person Tito has ever ducked is Chuck and that because they were friends and had made an agreement not to fight when they started.

Don’t down Tito for not wanting to fight a friend, without holding the same standard for everyone, hence Georges, Silva. of which both said they would not fight a friend.

by knowitall on May 3, 2008 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like Tito, I think it pissed a lot of people off, and turned them off of him when him and Dana were going back and forth on each other about the money thing. but the reality of it now is he has some cash now. so hopefully we can see re freshed Tito. He’s right he’s still kinda young. I can see him being good again, not ufc champion good. still, i can see him improving a lot. A lot more then some other previous ufc champs.

by shinbob on May 2, 2008 10:48 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hate to see him leave the UFC. But I’m sure he can be a champ at any other MMA org. And if he does become a champ, then that just gives more credability to the UFC’s fighters that the UFC is where it’s at to be the best.

by JV on May 2, 2008 10:49 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hey john, I saw that other quote you sent me about tito not being about the money, but in the next sentence he said he’s going where the y pay him. In this interview, listen carefully, he says it “may not be in the UFC,” MAY NOT!! He’s a “business man” remember, he said it himself. He knows that nobody can pay him like the UFC. Elite is overpaying nobodies, and there aren’t any other organizations out there that can get Tito the exposure that a media whore like him want or need. This is all his (smart) way of getting a great contract. It’s just my opinion, but I can’t see him going somewhere else!

by kevin on May 2, 2008 10:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I am fully aware that many of the things athletes say are just strategies to get bigger contracts, but I will be really surpirsed to see him in the Octagon ever again after May 24. His heart just isnt into fighting and you can be successful in the UFC if you dont give it all you got. I actually think that he doesn’t even want to come back in the UFC.

We both said all there is to say baout it…We will just agree to disagree, sit back and wait to see it unfold.

Maybe I am wrong and my judgement is clouded because I hate seeing Tito in the UFC. I just cant stand it!Especially, when the UFc wastes a good fighter by having him fight Tito the entertainer Ortiz.

I am not too mad about the Ortiz vs. machida match up because I think its an easy win for Machida. Him beating such a famous fighter like TIto will help make him popular to the casual fans (who have all the influence in the UFC now a days). Die hards like the majority of us on this site are a minority. Machida is boring to the majority of the fans, but I think he gets it now and understands that in America, its not all about winning and that its better to loose in entertaining fashion than win in a boring way. I think it was just a cultural difference and since before the Nakamura fight he started to get it. In the interviews leading up to that fight he stated that he promised to be more exciting and that he realized that just winning wont get you a title shot, and since then he has backed it up in fights. He fought is ass off against naka and Soko…so I really believe that we will see a more exciting version. I still dont think we will see his true potential until they match him up against an aggressive striker, like maybe wanderlei or Henderson.

This month it will be interesting to see how the Machida/Tito fight and the Tito free agent market all plays out. Keep in mind that EliteXC is not his only option. I think that they are the front runner because of their deal with CBS. They could use his star power to make one of those CBS cards more attractive and Tito loves the exposure so I am sure fighting on CBS is very appealing to him.

However that wont be his only option. I am sure that Affliction would throw out an offer, or he may link up with Mark Cuban. Then again, he could go the Tim Sylvia route and sign with Monte Cox’s organization/agency and be pimped out to other organizations.

It will be interesting to see ehow it all unfolds.

I would love to hear a progress report about Arlovski’s free agent negotiations. Anyone have any news on that?

by john on May 2, 2008 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes he will be a world champion of an organization whos talent depth is as deep as my sink. It wont mean anything if hes a champion anywhere else. The best division at LH is in the UFC because it has so much depth. He can call himself a world champion in another organization but the reality of it is is that hes going to be facing mainly cans who could cut it in the UFC. I want to see him againt Minotoro, that would be an interesting fight.

Great news everyone, I’ve just been declared LHW champ of “Bob’s MMA League!” Haven’t heard of it? Oh, you will soon (maybe). The league only has two fighters—me and my dog, but I submitted his ass via triangle choke to take the belt.

I’m sure Tito will be champ of a similar league very soon. It’s always nice to see someone admit when they can’t play in the adult pool and move to the kiddie pool. I’m not saying that other organizations aren’t credible (EliteXC) but they are just not at the competitive level of the UFC right now. In five years, that could change, but for now you only need to follow the $$ and the profit to know which league is the deepest.

Although the UFC are by far the biggest promotion around, strictly speaking, you don’t need to be UFC champ to be the best. As much as i’m not a Tito fan he’s done alot for the UFC over the years and he’s defo a character. He’s just not a top level fighter anymore!

Tito is leaving the UFC because Chuck destroyed him 2 times and Jackson would maul him…..this has nothing to do with Dana, granted Dana gets all the blame when the Shamrock’s and Tito’s of the world can’t compete anymore! That being said I am a fan of both guys but companies pay for performance! The UFC is no different.
Enjoy UFC 84 !!!!!!

Since when is the UFC the only place to be real champion. I remember when pride had fedor, rampage, silva, big nog they had the better fighter’s big deal, the ufc was still fun to watch. Now the UFC has the better fighters, but Elite XC has CBS,and MArk Cuban has Fedor and a ton of wealth to invest in mma. Check back in a couple years see where it’s at then.

Let’s see,

LW – yes (Penn)
WW – yes (GSP)
MW – yes (Silva)
LHW – yes (Rampage)
HW – no (Nogueira)

5/6 I think that sums up that UFC has the best p4p fighters in every division ;)

I see your point but, their are LWs that would push Penn, and how many guys in the MW division are really world class – Silva Hendo Franklin, not many more! UFC has the majority of the best fighters but you don’t need to be in the UFC to be the best in the world!

I think Tito leaving will be good for both him, and the UFC. Tito will hopefully be able to string together some impressive wins outside of the UFC and become some sort of champion on another brand.

UFC will continue to thrive, with or without Tito Ortiz. Once Strikeforce and Elite XC fold in the next couple years…and it will happen…Tito’s crybaby ass will be crawling back to the only successful MMA company…the UFC.

Can’t wait for the future of MMA!!!!

that is probably true. where some people may find that unfair(tito, Randy) but you dont see everyone complaining.
making it into the UFC is a great achievment itself, if you dont like the pay, leave! its cool how they give fight bonuses cause it just shows if you want that bonus, you need to go out there and preform better than the rest.
therefor you deserve to get a bonus. If your not a top fighter, do you derserve to make 100,000 a fight or more?

BJ Penn – Best in the world @ 155
GSP – Best in the world @ 170
A Silva – Best in the world. Period.
Rampage – Best in the world @ 205
Nog – 2nd, maybe 3rd (him or Randy) Best in the world @ HW
Plus the UFC has the deepest talent pool BY FAR. Yes, you do have to be champ in the UFC to be the best in the world, with the exception of HW.

‘Yes, you do have to be champ in the UFC to be the best in the world, with the exception of HW’
………..bo***cks!

So if you’re not the UFC champ you’re not the best in the world! So Silva wasn’t the best before he joined the UFC? He was number one long before he beat Franklin! And GSP wasn’t as good as Serra because he lost to him?

by UKMMA on May 2, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really? You had Silva as the number 1 Middleweight in the world before he got to the UFC? Even with him being 2-3 in his last five fights before entering the UFC? Really now? Wow, you must have been the only one.

You’re amazing.

by R-Dizzle on May 2, 2008 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

3-2, that is. But, still.. NO ONE had him ranked #1 before he went on a tear in the UFC.

Oh, and by the way.. he wasn’t even a champion! How could he be the WORLD CHAMPION or even THE BEST, if he doesn’t even have a title??

You obviously have only been watching MMA for about a year.

by R-Dizzle on May 2, 2008 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was still the same fighter! So that one fight with Leben made him did it? Oh and if you do little research you’ll find he did have a title with Cage Rage (not saying it’s a top promotion, but thought i’d drop it in there for you ‘Mr Facts’). : )

UKMMA, R-Dizzle has no clue this is what happened, when Silva signed the contract with the UFC it was like superman going in the phone booth and putting on his suit.

also all the fighters the UFC has comes from these other promotions, so if there is nobody is good enough then the UFC should not sign anymore of those guys.

Nog
Rampage
Silva

all just came from other companies to own the UFC fighters. Ha Ha

knowitall, finally someone speaking a little sence! I don’t think either of us are disputing that UFC is the best and has th best guys. However, it proves the point that you don’t need to be under the UFC banner to be the best. The reason the UFC signed half these guys was because of their rep in other promotions!

Whether you’ve been watching it for a year or two weeks is irrelevant.

The UFC gave Silva the exposure and the competitors to prove he is the best in the world. And now while he’s on top he continues to stay there, hopefully for a while.

UFC acquired PRIDE as well, so of course they have a higher percentage of better fighters which adds to the fact that it’s the best in the world. But it’s not so black and white to say ALL UFC fighters are better than other organizations’, just most of them are.

But there are still a heap of good fighters UFC needs to acquire.

And besides, even if they are not the best of the best, some fighters are perfect for the sport and are fun to watch. Disregarding Nick Diaz’s prior misdemeanors, he was always good to watch and would be awesome if he was back in the UFC.

Tito stirs the pot… Tito will get people to buy PPV. Tito’s aggression will end when he gets into the ring and he will run, grasp his opponent and stall(anything not to lose big (“if you arent cheating your not trying hard enough”)) and make excuses for losing again. He is priceless.

Tito – to quote Trump – “You are Fired!”

machidas destruction of him might make a little less marketable for mma, but w/ him and jenna jameson he could do well in the wwe. pro wrestling is where i see tito ending up and they and vince mcmahon still pays pretty good. so thats alot easier money. just learn some pro wrestling moves, pump some weights, take steroids, he can already ad-lib and tito would make the perfect wrestling heel.

World champion? Impossible. That means you’re have to be a champion in every mma organization in the world yeah right in your dreams Tito, you must be on crack.

Say what u want about tito, he hasn’t beaten anyone significant in a while. He couldn’t be chuck, he’s banging some hosebag, the guy is still a solid fighter. He mite not be what he once was but neither are chuck or wanderla. From the video he’s looks allot smaller and leaner than previous fights. I think he knows that he will need quickness against Machida. This should be a good fite. Love him or hate him, (im iin the middle) tito always makes for a good fite. I hope he goes somewhere else b/c he has drawing power and can help anoth mma org

Last time I checked you can’t be world champion if you’re not fighting in the UFC. Go back to Triple A monkeyman.

If he beats machida he will earn serious credibility. He has been trading on his reputation lately but is one big win away from being a top card fighter again. Question is – will the ufc keep him? And the answer is probably not. Big shame if he goes out on a victory because it is nice for the fans to see the best fighters to be in one organisation.

Also I would like to point out that he is an arrogant dick who talks a lot of smack – again excellent for the fans.

From this video and most other Tito Ortiz interviews, he’s actually a pretty good guy. From everyone’s comments, I doubt few people here read beyond the headline and actually watched the video.

I agree that he’s far from being a world champ again. And at this point, ‘World Champions’ of MMA wear UFC belts. Not Dream. Not Victory Road. Not HDfight. Not EliteXC.

But, Ortiz has the most business savy of any MMA fighter out there. The guy’s been fighting since 97? Most of the bloggers here weren’t even watching the UFC until TUF came around. The fact that Ortiz does TV shows, commercials, and celeb appearances outside the UFC only exposes the UFC/MMA to a larger audience.

Amazing how Ortiz and Couture started their UFC careers on the same card. Even more amazing is how both Ortiz and Couture have both publicly stated that the UFC treats them like crap and pays them unfairly. Yet Couture is a saint, and Ortiz is a villan.

he came across very well in his season as a tuf coach but is still hated, so that should tell you alot. even if some hadnt seen him until tuf they still found away to hate him. i dont see couture as being a saint myself, just the opposite and i was a big a fan of his as there could be.

Watched Video: 2 Conclusions

1. What u call a good guy I call Narcacism.
2. Dude couldnt stop scratching downstairs.

thats the problem w/ guys like tito, couture and the shamrocks they think there bigger than the sport and have proven to be wrong. the ufc has strived without randy or ken and will continue to do so once tito leaves. i think amnother big factor in people not liking tito is his not showing up for his boxing match w/ dana. who puts a clause in their contract to fight their boss and then not even bother to show up. it made tito look like he was scared. it was his idea in the 1rst place.

World Champion of what?

And who cares?

I’d laugh if he left to fight in EliteXC or some even worse organization and then lost to their champ.

His legacy would be ruined.

I can’t see him beating Machida, because Machida fights a lot like Chuck Liddell used to fight, in that he isn’t going to put himself in a compromising position to strike or take you down.

He will wait and wait, until the other fighter makes a move and then capitalize on that. Tito will rush in and catch a knee from a failed takedown, or he will do his famous PhillyShell defence that worked so well against Liddell, and get picked apart like he always does.

In the end though, Tito is good for the sport, he just should let his actions do the talking.

you never know with tito. could be a ploy, could be for real. i think he just goes with the flow to be honest. but either way he does go, he’s covered. if he loses and leaves, he told you so. if he wins and stays, he has bargaining power so the UFC gave him what he wanted. he’s a smart guy…why do you think he has such a gargantuan cranium?

by gcw on May 2, 2008 4:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Tito will suck no matter where he is.
If he would get rid of the over-inflated opinion of his own abilities that he has, he might be a B level fighter.

IS IT ME?… OR IS ANYONE ELSE GETTING THE FEELING,
somehow, through injury, contract dispute or something, Tito is going to get out of this fight with Machida?

by THORAZINE on May 2, 2008 9:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It has made me wonder… When I first heard that Tito was fighting machida, It did not make since, Why would Tito take a fight that he KNOWS he will loose? I think he will drop out of his fight with machida somehow…

Where’s part 2? It’s not on their site or youtube.

Screw Tito. The Ufc will do just fine without. Even if he does become champion outside of the ufc it will be nothing compared to a UFC Championship………

Machida by 2nd round triangle choke…………….
