Nick Serra vs. Matt Makowski Elite XC fight added to Saturday Night Fights under card

Nick "The Mad Monkey" Serra (4-2) -- brother of former UFC welterweight champion and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4 winner Matt Serra -- will reportedly fight up-and-comer Matt Makowski (2-0) on the undercard of EliteXC's Saturday Night Fights at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J, on May 31, according to FiveOuncesOfPain.com.
Serra is a New York native; therefore, fighting in the Garden State makes sense for him. He obviously trains with his brother at Serra Jiu Jitsu in Long Island and is a solid submission specialist himself. All four of his career wins, in fact, have been via tap out and he's never been submitted or knocked out.
This will be his first fight since June 23 of last year -- a second round submission (armbar) victory over Mike Varner at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 5: "2 Worlds, One Cage."
Makowski is a 22-year-old fighter out of Philly who has been impressive in his two victories in his short MMA career. He most recently overcame Muay Thai specialist Joe Schilling with a first round rear naked choke at the ShoXC Callenger Series in Atlantic City, N.J. on January 25.
The welterweight showdown is the first undercard bout to be announced or rumored for the prestigious mixed martial arts network television debut on CBS. We know the Serra's can fight or at least roll, so this should be a good scrap for the fans.
Remember that EliteXC under card bouts are and will be streamed LIVE on ProElite.com prior to the 9 p.m. telecast on CBS.

Nick is an alright fighter, I have watched him once and he lost. I think his record is 4-2. He is a decent fighter, but Matt is the better of the two.

if he’s never been KO’d or submitted, then he lost his 2 fights by decision. so he must be pretty good. and the serra’s are fighters, so it sounds fun.

I’d be interested, if EliteXC showed the undercard on TV, but at least they do offer all of the undercard fights for free on thier website.
Does anyone know if Mike Varner is Jamie Varner’s brother?
What weight class will this fight take place at? 155?

hey bro, I dropped you an email, did you read the post on sherdog from kaleb starnes? I thought on mmamania he was reported as breaking his foot in the 1st, now it’s the second. And as I said, of course the ufc covers medicals! Also as I said, someone else has already offered him more money

kevin, can you find out any contract details at all? I’d love to know who signed him and more importantly, WHY!

I can get over how “guido” he is. I like Matt, and haven’t seen enough of his brother to come to a conclusion. I think his BJJ is probably great, the rest could be suspect!

You would be intimidated by " The Happy Monkey"?
I am not familiar with Matt, but I am with Nick’s. What I have read and what limited video I’ve seen of Matt I think this is going to be a good fight. Out of all the MMA events I have seen some of the best fights are in the undercard. The guys fighting for recognition and trying to make it to the upper levels tend to realy fight with real heart.

after seeing him on the countdown to ufc 83 show and the retard comments he made, not to mention his awesome bangs and pimples, i thought it was a little rich to be questioning georges as a fighter. good to know he actually fights, but it’s still rich to be calling out st. pierre.

lol, my wife spoke of his perfectly manicured eye brows on top of the pimples and bangs! Got to love those “men” who trim and pick and poke more than a woman!!

Will have great BJJ no doubt, I just hope his stand up is better than his mates Dan “The Howler” Simmler.

Obviously, none of you have ever seen Makowski fight let alone stepped into a cage with him. I fought Matt in his first amatuer fight in Sept.2006. He already had an extensive amatuer muay thai history at that time. Matt’s stand up is better than his ground game which isnt saying alot since the majority of his wins have come by submission (historically chokes). I’ve been a fan of Makowski since the moment sent me airborne cage high. He is a super tough guy who will be there to win. Go search youtube for matt makowski & check out some of his fights. Prediction for Makowski to win either by submission or decision. Serra might be the name you know but its still just a name.

Saw the fight live at the prudential arena last night. Nick Serra was a real dog, he just sat down in the ring early in the second round and refused to get up. He was completely gassed out.
It was hard for me to watch because I train at Serra’s, but I calls’em like I sees’em.

remember the name “Matt Makowski”
Just 21 yrs old, excellent muay thai.
Great takedown/submission defense
Cool and collected.
Btw..he defeated Renzo black belt julio cruz in similar fasion in his debut pro fight.
metro monkey needs to spend less time on his eyebrows and more time with his road work

I know it’s late, but seriously, what was with that ending? Nick must have been REALLY hurting to have just toppled over like that. He was just DONE after a while. I’m glad Matt did really well, and seeing all his wins lets me know I’m getting my money’s worth training under him.
