Rich Clementi vs. Terry Etim UFC 84 fight confirmed

No rest for the weary.
Rich Clementi (31-12-1) — who just defeated Sam Stout via split decision this past weekend at UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre 2" — will fill-in for an injured Rob Emerson and fight Terry Etim (10-1) in a lightweight bout at UFC 84: "Ill Will" on May 24 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
No cause of the Emerson injury was revealed.
Clementi is on a sweet five-fight win streak, three of which were inside the Octagon. "No Love" has wins over Melvin Guillard and Anthony Johnson in addition to his win over Stout at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
In fact, UFC.com has even labeled him a "contender" in an extremely talent-rich 155-pound division.
Etim will look to rebound from his first career loss when he locks horns with the former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4. He most recently dropped a unanimous decision to Gleison Tibau at UFC 75: "Champion vs. Champion" in September 2007.
Prior to the loss he notched his first career UFC win against Matt Grice in April 2007.
UFC 84 features the main event between UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn and former division belt keeper, Sean Sherk. A pair of light heavyweight match ups between Wanderlei Silva and Keith Jardine, as well as Tito Ortiz and Lyoto Machida, also highlight the pay-per-view (PPV) card.

He fought a three round decision and he’ll be ready in a month? Seems too quick for me.

Thats what I was thinking! I dont think any fighter has ever fought on back to back UFC pay per view cards. Its not like he is fighting a great opponent. Rich is a seasoned veteran and will be way too much for Etim to handle.
Rich is making some decent money in 2008. Good for him, I dont like him very much, but after tea bagging Melvin, he is Ok in my book. Rich has paid his dues, its good to see him making some money…He is the definition of a “Wiley Ol’ Vet”!!!!!!

I’m pretty underwhelmed by this fight, but tea-bagging an unconscious coke-head makes Rich alright in my book.

I dont like Clementi, but I think it is pretty cool for him to fight in back to back cards..I have never heard of this before.

Way to stay buisy. Huerta didn’t even fight on consecutive PPV’s last year and he was the busiest guy on the roster. Rich is riding a 3 fight UFC win streak. Before that, he lost his previous 2 UFC fights to Roan Carniero and Din Thomas.
Rich is pretty well rounded, better on the ground than standing, but I think that he will crumble if/when he gets a chance to face the Top 10 of the division.

He probably will crumble once he faces top 10 opponents, but he is going to make quick work of Etim…..wonder what those odds will be?

Rich is a veteran warrior, no doubt, but I’m not ready to count Etims out quite yet. I don’t remember him at all but on paper: Etims FINISHED ALL 10 of his wins before getting to 3rd round. 1 KO, 9 submissions – everything from gulletines, armbars, triangles, RNC. His jewjitz must be above decent to be pulling a variety of submissions. Beat Matt Grice @ UFC70, Lost to Gleison Tibau @ UFC 75 so reviewing film and looking for his other bjj credentials might be wise to see what level of competition this guy is at before betting against him.(still recovering from Houston Alexander KO deficit Ouch!) Both fighter’s strengths look to be bjj. Leaning towards Rich to win it but there might be a better mismatch on the card to take advantage of is what I’m thinking. BE CAREFUL WITH THIS 1!!

Kama Kaze: I have seen a enough of Etim’s fights to be confortable enough with wagering on Rich. I am very confident that he will win this fight. The only thing that worries me is I that I didnt not see Rich’s fight against Stout, so I dont know how much damage he took in that fight. But as long as Rich isnt too big of a favorite, I like Rich in this fight.
I actually like Etim, but Rich is way to seasoned and he has been performing well this year. I love Rich in this fight!

He’s fighting another striker with obvious holes in his ground game. Pretty shoddy match up if you ask me, throw him against Stevenson/Guida/Griffin and then you have a good match!

Etim is a solid striker but his strenght on the floor and is really good on his back. It won’t be the push over for Rich, in fact it may be worth (odds allowing) to have a sneaky punt on Etim…be warned.
