Chuck Liddell vs. Shogun Rua September UFC fight possible (Video)

Quoteworthy:
"I think this is a huge setback for this fight, and it's a huge setback for the UFC and this England show. But in the grand scheme of things for Chuck Liddell's future, I think it's just a minor setback because I think his hammy is going to heal up 110 percent and he's going to be back stronger than ever."
John Hackleman -- the trainer for former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell -- comments on the hamstring injury that forced the "Iceman" out of the UFC 85 main event against Rashad Evans on June 7. James Irvin is penciled in to fill-in and take on "Sugar." Meanwhile, the report indicates that Liddell could return in September against his original UFC 85 opponent, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, sometime in September. Rua had to withdraw from the bout because he blew out his knee ... again. There's no word on whether or not he'll be fit in time for a September fight with Liddell.

Makes sense and works out better for UFC and Chuck. Chuck will beat Rua and then mark my words Chuck vs Forrest for the strap. Full circle from TUF 1.

Good luck on the Iceman and his return from injury. I wouldn’t mind seeing him take out Shogun in the same place Forrest took out Shogun: ANAHEIM BABY! Lol, wishful thinking, maybe, but that WOULD BE COOL.

This is the fight I wanted to see and pay for!! You know this is a setup for a LHW title fight at the end of Dec.

I wanna see this fight so bad too, but if Shogun is smart he shouldn’t take this fight in September cause he most likely still won’t be 100 percent and with that being said i only wanna see Liddell and Rua fight when they are both 100 percent.

It’s amazing how a couple of losses can make you think differently about a fighter… There was a time when I saw Chuck as an “indestructible fighter”, someone that nobody could take to the ground (for more than a couple of seconds) or stand with without getting knocked out… But since his losses to Rampage and Jardine I’ve questioned his ability to regain that killer instinct that he once had… He looked solid against Wandy but he didn’t look like a killer, I do expect him to beat Shogun but I would be very surprised if he knocks him out.

A healthy Shogun destroys Chuck Liddell. I cant wait to see it. The odds for shogun will be sweet, since not many casual UFC fans no him…..all they know is he looked like crap and lost to Forrest, so a lot of the casual fans will be betting on Chuck making the Shoun odds SWEET!
I am going to get paid off Shogun Ko’ing Liddell!

Whoever loses this fight, if it takes place, expect an excuse of being injured by one of the two no doubt. I want Shogun to win but honestly speaking, an injury as bad as his, he should take more time out to fully heal. Its a dumb decision on his part to try and fight so early, just look at what happened when he was preparing to fight Chuck the first time around.

I actually think Chuck matches up better against Shogun than he does Evans. Although Chuck’s takedown defense is great, I still think that Evans standup is good enough to have caught Chuck’s attention to make takedowns inevitable. I think Evans would have won a three round split-decision. I know Chuck says he wants to fight anybody the UFC puts in front of him, but I guarantee he wants to fight Shogun more than Evans, and will get more up for it. If it happens, I predict a third round TKO for Chuck. And Evans beats Irvin via GNP.

This is the most intruiging possible non-title fight matchup in the UFC to me right now. Hope they only fight if fully healthy though. Only other non-title fight I can think of as interesting as this is a Hendo/Franklin or Hendo/Lidell matchup.
