I can’t stand Sherk. He’s a boring fighter and of course there’s the whole bit about steroids. I hope BJ crushes him something like penn hughes 1.

by Fidel Cashflow on Apr 23, 2008 9:34 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah. Everyone says Sherk is too much for this guy. Here is a question and something to think about B J haters. You think a guy that made Hughes tap out cant make Sherk tap out when fighting at his natural weight? Sherk doesnt even fight at his natural weight. He cuts mad weight to fight guys that are way smaller than him physicaly just so he can have a strap. He couldnt even finish Florian or Franca, who are not even at Penn’s level, he just rode them the whole fight. And you Sherk lovers think he can finish B.J? Denial is a bitch sometimes.

by the_mexicutioner on Apr 23, 2008 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m no Penn hater but I do think people are Sherk haters. Give some credit to the guy, he doesn’t just ride he beats you until you look like your insides. The man has 2 losses and they both come to the same guys who beat Penn. Sherks ability to hang with Penn on the ground is a little questionable but his size will definetly benefit him. On the other hand we have yet to see if Penn can handle a long distance match, I have yet to see him handle anything past the second round. I know it doesnt’ matter but maybe everyone should just root for their guy respectfully instead of talking shit about a fighter they will be watching on tv.

You are so right!Penn is gonna beat his @$$!

Um… Sean Sherk has never been submitted. He has fought extremely tough BJJ artists such as Kenny Florian, Hermes Franca, Nick Diaz ect… and Sean Sherk has completely dominated them.

Look at the BJ/GSP match, the only reason why GSP won is because he was stronger and in better condition that BJ..

Sherk will win this.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Apr 23, 2008 9:40 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Those other BJJ guys aren’t like BJ. BJ is in another level when it comes to BJJ. It’s very difficult to train for someone like BJ.

This is going to be a great fight though. I can’t wait to see what happens. I say BJ by TKO or Submission. Yes, it can happen to Sherk.

by damaja on Apr 23, 2008 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It has happened to Sherk. GSP absolutely dominated him and BJ gave GSP the fight of his life. If BJ comes in in halfway decent shape this fight won’t even be close. If BJ can get Hughes on his back, he can most certainly get Sherk on his back. BJ RNC Rd. 2.

by MC on Apr 23, 2008 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sherk doesn’t dominate anyone anymore. In order to dominate a fight you have to finish the fight. Sherk is a lay ’n pray dry humping snoozefest.

by PW on Apr 23, 2008 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

FYI, Sherk has been training with a ton of high… high level BJJ guys in preperation for this fight. He’ll come into the fight in better shape and more prepared than he’s ever been.

This is BJ’s fight to win, but if hecan’t put Sean away by the end of the second round he’s in deep, deep trouble.

by Dom on Apr 23, 2008 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

To say that dominating a fight requires a finish is a pretty lame statement.

Would you say Randy Couture dominated Tito?
Would you say Fedor dominated Big Nog (twice)?

Need I continue?

by ShatteredDreams on Apr 23, 2008 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor half killed Nog.

Sherk sat on Franca and hugged him while throwing short ineffective punches.

I do agree that Sherk dominated him and you don’t have to finish a fight to dominate, but please don’t compare Fedor’s performance against Nog to Sherk.

gsp didnt fight like gsp hughes 2 when he he fought bj and still beat him after being stabbed in the eye. if bj doesnt end it real quick he,ll be f!@#ed

wow you beleive everything you hear huh bj didn’t thumb hughs in the eye hughs got a knucke in the eye then during the punch bj’s thumb ran down hugh’s nose and cheek watch the replay in super slow mo and you will see what i mean also bj broke a rib at the end of the second round and still continued to fight and never gave up even when he was defensless getting pounded in the facedo your research and watch more fights befor you throw a comment out like that

BJ has dominated a bigger stronger wrestler in Matt Hughes, and arguably beat GSP in their first match. BJ will completely ruin Sherk.

by jerrolds on Apr 23, 2008 11:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

sounds like the same reasons you thought serra would beat gsp(not exactly but close). he doesnt have to sub him to beat him. sherk knows that b.j has way better stand-up than him so its obviuos to everyone that sherk is gonna look for the takedown, but he had better watch out for those knees coming in. franca rocked him 2 or 3 times w/well timed knees and b.j. has koes din thomas with the knee. i can guarantee you b.j. is working hard on timing his knee strikes. it will be easy for b.j. to find guys who fight like sherk to train, but who is sherk gonna find that fights like b.j. to train with? ther is no one. b.j. penn by ko or tko

Mr nc-17 Sherk dominated nick diaz we must of watched different fights the fight i watch it was a close fight in which sherk had alot of problems taking nick down.
Also please do not compare gsp to sherk when they fought gsp broke sherks spirit and made him not want to fight anymore

Saying all that i do think these are the two best 155lbs in the world but sometimes first (bj) is a whole lot better then second

wow did you, just say sherk has never been submitted thats hilarious Gsp dominated and humiliated sherk so bad that he went down in weight and even could win there without cheating second gsp never dominated bj bj gave gsp the worst beating he ever gotten for almost 2 straight rounds but yeah he did outlast him but didn’t over power him he won by decision and hughs was also dominated by bj and both of those fighter dominated sherk and over powered him so please explain how sherk will over power BJ

“What’s he going to do when I’m on top of him punching him in the face, and licking the blood off his face while I’m punching him”

GOD, I LOVE BJ

Pulver, Machida, GSP, and Hughes are the only fighters to beat BJ Penn. Pulver was the only loss at LW. He also has a win over Hughes as well, and he just beat Joe Stevenson. Both of them are wrestlers. BJ has fought and beaten strong wrestlers before, but he has also lost to Hughes as well. HOWEVER, that was BJ’s first fight back in the UFC and it was at WW and he was out of shape.

This is going to be such a great fight. I like BJ to win, however, as a plus 200 underdog, a betting few bucks on Sherk isn’t a bad idea…

by ViolentMike on Apr 23, 2008 9:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

In this fight I will probably be betting on Penn/Unders
I will probably throw $200 on Penn (straight bet)
and an undertermined amount $$$ on a parlay or maybe even a reverse with Penn and the Unders!

I see Sherk getting Rear Naked Choked no later then half way through the second round. I wont be shocked if BJ submitts him in the 1st round. However long it lasts it will be very entertaining…I have no doubts that BJ Penn will win this fight!

by John on Apr 23, 2008 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John, can you please explain to me how a “Reverse Action” bet works? I don’t know what it is, therefore, I have never done one.

If you are going to bet on BJ to win, you MUST parlay the bet with the Under. I do not like BJ’s chances of winning in rounds 4 or 5, but I also don’t like the chances of the fight going that long. My bet as of now is Penn and Under in a parlay as well. Actually, getting Sherk at plus 200 and parlaying that with the over, along with the Penn/Under parlay could prove to be a guaranteed payday!!!!!!!!!! So put $ on 2 parlays, Penn/Under and Sherk/Over. Put the same amount on each, and I consider it pretty close to guaranteed money. Of course anything can happen, but they are solid picks.

Also, for anyone with a BetUs account that may be intersted, you can bet on the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the series (they are up 2-0) against the Wizards at -500. The Cavs WILL win this series pending a freak injury to LeBron. I bet a large, undisclosed amount of money on that one…

by ViolentMike on Apr 23, 2008 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

wow, thats an easy 5000 dollar bet

by kevin on Apr 23, 2008 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

parlaying both is brilliant! its really difficult to imagine penn grinding a UD or sherk finishing penn early. damn bodog doesn’t have parlays for mma lines, but they usually have better odds on the favorites for straight up bets. still waiting for thiago silva odds to come out. might just skip it if its too steep.

Violentmike: I have never bet a reverse on mma yet, but I think I will try one on the BJ fight. Best way I can explain it is in football terms.

Example: Eagles -7 over the Giants over/unders 45

If I bet a $25 reverse with Eagles/overs (must pick 2 bets)
The only way you win money is if both bets win.

If the eagles and the overs wins, I would win $100 ($25 times 4)

If 1 of my picks looses, I would loose $30, if both my bets loose, I would loose $60

Betting a reverse in mma is a little trickier because there are odds involved… Tomorrow I am going to find out how it works with mma because say you pick 2 underdogs…it would pay out a lot of $$$

Mike: I really like reverses when betting football or basketball, something with a line, not odds. But say we bet (2 underdogs)in a reverse in mma…It would would pay a whole lot of $$$.

But in terms of basketball and football, you win 4 times what you bet if both your bets win, so if you are really sure about 2 games its a great bet…. It pays out much more then parlays (close to double), downside is if both your bets loose, you would loose on both picks where as a parlay you would just loose what you bet.\

Its probably the greatest risk = great rewards type of bet!

This fight will come down to one determining factor…cardio! Whomever has the better cardio conditioning will win.

by Jason on Apr 23, 2008 10:06 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Wrong! Sherk WILL have the better cardio, that doesn’t translate to a win. It is likely BJ will submit Sherk before his questionable cardio comes into play. If BJ gasses then it is possible for him to drop a couple of rounds in points, but simply stating “whomever has better cardio conditioning will win” is ridiculous because then Sean Sherk’s only competition would be kenyans.

by ufcmn89 on Apr 23, 2008 10:34 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree cardio is going to be the determining factor here. I don’t think it is who has better cardio but wether or not Penn has actually improved his cardio. Sherk is like a brick wall, you can’t just hope for a quick KO or a smooth submission. You have to break him down piece by piece, he’s iron when it comes to getting hit and a die hard when it comes to submissions. BJ is great at both striking and submitting but he needs to expect this thing to go to the 5th. If he doesn’t chances are he’ll gas early and get the GnP action Sherk is more than willing to deliver. And please people you don’t give Sherks opponents enough resepct, these guys were number one contenders for a reason.

by Smokes on Apr 24, 2008 5:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

most inept comment ever, stop talking until you turn 18

by kmoney on Apr 24, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

wow cardio is the only factor thats funny
1. sherk has to be able to take penn down wich hughs and gsp had problems with and sherk is alot weaker then either
2 sherk has to avoid the hands and knees on each and every shoot to be able to get a one leg let alone a two leg take down
3.laying and praying will not work on penn he is to active on his back and sherk on his back pen can dominate.
4.now there is the cardio thing but with bj now finally training (wich he never used to he fought out of sheer ability ) cardio shouldn’t be a factor but if it is bj will have won to many rounds for it to count

by true mma fan on May 23, 2008 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I doubt this will be a good fight at all. Without his roids, Sherk will not has the amount of strength he has had in the past and since he is a “lay and pray” fighter, that goes out the window. Not like he good beat BJ Penn even on steroids. Bottom line: BJ Penn DESTROYS Sean Sherk in the 1st round.

by JD on Apr 23, 2008 10:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You do realize Sherk is better than Joe Stevenson, right. It took BJ 2 rounds to finish him. No way BJ finishes Sherk in the first. BJ HAS to finish Sherk. It doesn’t matter if Penn’s cardio has improved, because there is no way BJ can go 5 rounds at Sherks pace.

According to: fiveouncesofpain:

Dana white talks various topics:

    * The UFC is still in negotiations with former UFC heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski
    * White says former light-heavyweight title challenger, Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral will be welcomed back to the UFC provided he gets a few “quality wins under his belt”.
    * White dismissed the idea of a women’s division, saying their aren’t enough elite female fighters out there.
    * White said he’d love to see a fight between Urijah Faber and Norifumi ‘Kid’ Yamamoto, but the Japanese fighters comes with a big price tag.
    * White said he blocked UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva from meeting boxer Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match because Silva is not a boxer. “I’ll put him against Anderson Silva if he wants to fight MMA. Anderson Silva is not a boxer. Boxing is not what we do.”

I seriously can’t wait for this one! BJ is an animal, I think his technique and skill level is for sure going to be the advantage over Sherk’s power ( as it almost always is ) and BJ takes this one by ( you guessed it ) Triangle choke in the 2ND round.

by triangle choke on Apr 23, 2008 12:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

First three rounds Sherk gets quick takedowns and dominates action in half guard and side control. After that BJ will be too tired and Sherk will do whatever he wants. Sherk by TKO in the 4th or 5th.

There a small chance this will happen and that is almost Sherk’s ONLY chance. I just think BJ’s too wiley on the ground. He’ll reverse Sherck several times before he locks in a submission.

by Clayton on Apr 23, 2008 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

are you smoking crack cause first sherk will try his hardest to take bj down and when he fails at that he will be so so confused he will try to trade punches with bj wich is the wrong thing to do bj wins 1st round then in the second bj will hit sherk a few times in the face good and then sherk will go for the take down again after about 4 attempts he may get it but penn will just pop back up and if he doesn’t he will out work sherk from the bottom till sherk makes a mistake and bj will then take his back and finish the fight with a rnc conclusion sherk may think he has a chance but after being dominated by penn where will he go to the W.E.C to feather weight then get dominated by faber

On paper Sherk all the way. BJ is good but overrated…he is 3-3 in his last 6 fights and Joe Stevenson is the only good fighter of his 3 wins since 2005 worth talking about. Off paper Sherk is no Ronald McDonald. He is too powerful, durable, and has way to much stamina for BJ. Even if BJ comes to fight in decent shape that won’t compare to Sherks ridiculous monster cardio. Sherk will push the pace and gas BJ. Enough of this nonsense talk about Sherk juicing. He had more than enough evidence to prove himself innocent, so a lack of steroids in his system for this fight is irrelevant.

BJ was 2-1-1 in his four fights before he faught Hughes the first time and he wrecked shop on him! You need to look at it like this, the new Penn is undefeated, bottomline. Period. And if you wanna count those losses go ahead, An arguable decision to Machida at 205, An arguable decision to GSP at 170, A pure loss to Hughes at 170 . . . Not one chump on that list yo! And Sherk would have gotten smashed by Machida (he wouldnt even try to fight Machida in his wildest dreams!) And we know what happened when he faught GSP/Hughes, how can you even compare the two . . .

this is a great point. How many guys are capable (and willing) of holding titles 50 pounds apart and every in between? I can think of one guy good enough and crazy enough to do it and have a shot at it!

BJ’s record is much more impressive than Sherk’s. Look at that fight with GSP. He stood there feet nailed to the ground in front of one of the best strikers out there and came out looking good. GSP was the one getting beat.
BJ has KO power and top shelf BJJ. And is a totally fearless maniac to boot. He was the first to submit Hughes right? Damn.

by Landowner on Apr 23, 2008 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hallman was the first and the second to sub Hughes, BJ was third fallowing in Hallmans footsteps with an RNC. All 3 of his first sub losses were RNC. Then GSP’s armbar.

Hughes and GSP beat Sherk by taking him down, something BJ WON’T be able to do. Hughes and GSP can match STRENGTH and CARDIO with Sherk , again BJ falls short on both. If the Sherk is the same as before (meaning he didn’t juice, or still is, lol),I see him gassing BJ in a 5 round fight.

by Gord on Apr 29, 2008 1:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

wow how can you say bj is the weaker of the 2 not in those words it took all matt hughs had to take bj down and all gsp had to take bj down now if those two (who dominated Sherk had a hard as hell time ) how can you say sherk will be anywhere close to that. second you are talking about bj like you studied him the fact of the matter is bj when he fought hughs and gsp didn’t train like he should have and dominated both of them early in all 3 fights by sheer fighting ability . now that bj has started to train like he should there should be no shadow of a doubt who the more skilled and capable one is to win
also he had matt hughs beat at the end of the second round but also broke a rib in the process so how can you even compare the 2 fighters you can’t

Does anyone actually believe that Sean Sherk had some incredible evidence that proved he never used steroids? To suggest that not taking steroids for this fight won’t be a factor is to suggest there’s no reason to take them at all. I mean if they’re not a factor then why use ‘em? Tell the guys who were animals in Pride—like Rua, Crocop, Wanderlei—that they aren’t a factor.

and remember, HGH isn’t testable!! He’s still juicing…allegedly

by kevin on Apr 23, 2008 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok here is my point on him juicing

1 take a normal man and have another man ontop of him pounding his face in and take his heart rate. it would be going through the roof almost to point of heart attack. thats panic now this is what the lie detector looks for change in heart rate during a question.
2 now take a trained and able mma fighter they train almost their whole career to be able to control their heart rate even while being mounted most of them remain calm and collected so they can think of ways to get out of the situation.
3 case in point to me a roided mma fight should have no problem passing a lie detector test (sherk passed it 3 times ) that should prove alot of the sherk fans the difference between passing a lie detector and failing a drug test also there are alot more kinds of roids out there that can’t be tested for

Im not calling a winner on this one, because both guys are animals. Sherk might surprise some of the BJ Penn nuthuggers and bring to him. If I had to pick, I would pick Sherk, only because I see it going into rounds 4 and 5 and see BJ Penn gassing. So, basically that perdiction is based on who has the best cardio. ummm, Sherk. However if it does end in the early rounds, I will give this fight to Penn.

that was an awesome pre fight vid. i can’t wait to see these 2 fight. i really want to see sherk get KOed.this could be a really awesome fight if sherk doesn’t use his typical LnP style.
Jardine has a weird striking style & big reach advantage that may give Wanderlei trouble.even though Alexander KOed him in less than a minute,he can take a punch.in the fight with Houston he kept on trying to get back up after he got rocked.i hope that Wanderlei can get close enough to effectivly strike, because he looked to short for the Lhwt Div. when he fought the ICEMAN.if Wandderlei can’t win this fight he should probably move down to Mwt where he won’t be the short guy the majority of the time.
i’m also looking forward to the other Silva fight.i’ve seen this kid Kiril Sidelnikov in a fight against a French guy.it was his 2nd fight & he looked good.any way i mention this because Antonio Mendes gave Sidelnikov a loss in Kiril’s 1st fight.this should be an interesting match.i would like to see Thiago win this fight and eventually becoming a contender in the Lhwt Div.
i’m also want to see the Warmachine Jon Koppoenhaver.his fight against J-Roc on the TUF6 finale was awesome.
i’ve never seen Palhares fight but i hear he is an excellent sub. fighter, but i will be going for the Canadaian Salaverry.
i hope that Sokoju gets back on track with a win against Nakamura.
the rest of the card i am not that excited about.

I agree about Wanderlei….I feel like Jardine will win this one by headkick KO ala Mirko Crop-Crop, however, I would LOVE to see Wanderlei get a much needed win under his belt…“I’m want to give good knockout to him” or somehting like that he says is hilarious…

Sherk can offer BJ NOTHING, absolutely nothing that can put bj in danger.

The only way Sherk can score pts is from takedowns – while BJ will score pts from striking, bj and sub attempts, even if this goes to 5 rounds (which it wont) BJ will still win on pts – theres no way in hell that lay and pray will work on BJ.

GSP was barely able to control him from the top position against an unfit BJ and Hughes got triangled AND armbarred within a round of being laid on.

BJ will most likely either TKO or Sub Sherk in under 3 rounds.

what about cardio?

by c-war on Apr 23, 2008 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I doubt bj will look like lutter in his match vs franklin. He’s gone through 2 5 rounders, gone the distance against a bigger stronger wrestler in GSP AND lyoto machida – and this was before he took training “seriously”.

Even if sherk is somehow able to take it to a decision – bj penn should still win on pts based on striking/bjj/sub attempts/reversals, while sherk wins points on….takedowns?

I dont see how sherk can win this unless bj is injured during the fight, we all know sherk WONT be able to KO bj, standing on in his guard.

Going by your 2 examples of fights BJ LOST, it looks like Sherk might just have something on Penn. Wrestling, strength and cardio.

by Gord on Apr 29, 2008 1:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

BJ says he has “just enough cardio” to take Sherk out.

dude – i know everyone points this out – but if this goes into the 4th and 5th rounds BJ could be in trouble.

you KNOW that sherk will not gas – if BJ does Sherk will take him down at will, and rough him up enough to win rounds. THAT is how BJ could very well lose this fight i think.

by andy on Apr 23, 2008 3:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

you’d really figure BJ would know he needs more than enough cardio. I guess some lessons are learned the hard way and some lessons are just never learned? It’s almost like BJ is telling Sherk “Look I am more talented than you, so I can probably beat you quickly, but if I can’t just push the pace and you’ll win a decision.”

Let’s see. He used to gas hard in the middle of round two, so maybe now he’ll gas in the middle of round 3? There’s your key, Sherk. Avoid the submissions and standup for 3 and 1/2 rounds and then just sit on BJ’s face. OH! And pass the drug test.

by Clayton on Apr 23, 2008 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I really do not think cardio will matter in this one. BJ will overwhelm Sherk similar to how GSP did. BJ by stoppage late round 2.

by bassy on Apr 23, 2008 3:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

GSP took Sherk down to overwhelm him. I don’t see BJ taking Sherk down.

I hope that Sherk comes off his roid cycle in time for this fight because I’d hate to see BJ destroy Sherk and have the match be voided because of it.

The Penn we saw against Stevenson is just plain scary, man. Just watch the fight. Penn was always talented but with his new focus, cut in weight, and just plain gameness, I don’t see Sherk doing anything to beat Penn. Sherk will try for a hands combo into a takedown and try to elbow/punch Penn into sub but it is unfortunate that Penn is THE most active fighter from the bottom and one of the sickest BJJers in the game. Penn is going to unleash the 8th gate of hell on the Sherk’s face.

You heard it here first.

by bostonmmajunkie on Apr 23, 2008 4:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sherk is a boring fighter. If it makes it out of the 3rd round Sherk will win otherwise I’m going with BJ. I wish BJ would bring cardio for once so he could at least make it into the thrid without gassing out. I so badly want BJ to destroy him.

by Brent on Apr 23, 2008 4:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

what i don’t understand is everyone is saying the same thing if it makes it out of the 3rd round sherk wins but how is that if bj wins all 3 rounds that leaves bj still ahead you all have to do your math right cause they score round for round not just all five rounds then just give points wow some people need to go back to school

by true mma fan on May 23, 2008 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just don’t see how Sherk can beat BJ. His best offense will lead him right to BJ’s best offense. He can shoot and take BJ down, but then he has to deal with Penn’s sick BJJ.

I think Sherk’s at a disadvantage on his feet and definitely on his back. What does that leave for him?

He’ll be in trouble standing, on his back and from the top.

I hate when people make guaranteed predictions, but I don’t see how Sherk can win unless BJ gasses to the point he can’t fight.

by TonyDrip on Apr 23, 2008 4:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sherk only has good cardio because he likes to dry hump his opponents for 5 rounds.

BJ won’t let that happen!

A lot of people are still making the mistake in thinking that BJ lost to Hughes in their last fight because he gassed or because he was out of shape. He cracked a rib, that is the only reason he lost the fight. Hughes and Sherk fans really do need to watch that fight again. Up until his rib injury BJ was giving Hughes the beating of his life. I have never cracked a rib before but I have bruised them by stupidly letting the bench bar bounce of them. Damn I thought I going to have a heart attack. Haven’t done it since.

i think he dislocated them, but same difference. your’e right bj was totally dominating him and was about a few inches from subbing him for the 2nd time. but hughes body held up better than bj’s and thats part of fighting. bj’s body hasnt looked soft like that since and it wil not look that way ever again.

by b.w. on Apr 24, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You need to watch the fight again. Penn BURNT HIS LEGS OUT. He could hardly walk to his corrner and at the begining of the 3rd round he wasn’t even bending his knees, because they would’ve buckled. Rib or no rib injury, his legs were DONE and so was he.

by Gord on Apr 29, 2008 1:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok yeah penn also did burn his legs out but if you watch hughs he also stumble to his corner barley knowing where he was also look at it this way dislocted rib and burnt out legs and all bj still fought and never gave up also i have broken almost all of my ribs in karate through out the years and i will tell you this you try to stop someone from pulling your arms apart and then smashing your face in that would make almost anyone else give up also bj half assed all of his training up until that point and used only sheer fighting ability to beat hughs the first time

BJ’s comment about having enough cardio has me worried. If BJ doesn’t sub Sherk out within the first three rounds, there’s a very good chance that Sherk could win rounds 4 & 5 10-8 against a completely gassed Penn. That would be enough to win another decision. Both of them have lost to Hughes and GSP, but Sherk is the fighter that more resembles those fighters. However, BJ is the most talented fighter on the planet… in the first round.

by UFCAddict on Apr 24, 2008 10:06 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

BJ’s cardio will be the best it’s ever been. When he says he has just enough cardio to beat you, he means that cardio won’t be a factor, ie: it won’t prevent him from kicking your ass and finishing the fight, no matter how many rounds it goes.

I think Sherk will be competitive and a reasonably tough test, tougher than Stevenson, at least. But BJ will take him out in the first couple rounds by sub.
