MMA referee Dan Miragliotta gets unofficial UFC 83 submission of the night

Props: Mr. Sunshine

Quoteworthy:

"Just before the main event, some wacko at Bell Centre decided to jump the barrier go after the 6-5, 270-pound (?) Miragliotta. In a split second, the jackass was on the ground and Miragliotta had his back. He cinched in a rear naked choke!!!!! Had the Bell Centre security not stepped in, I think Miragliotta would've put the kid to sleep or better yet, broken his neck. I couldn't get the choke in a photo but I got the aftermath with a very fired up Miragliotta getting up off the floor."

For those who missed UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre 2," referee Dan Miragliotta is an absolutely massive human being. The person who accosted him has to be an absolute fool. At least he paid for it.

I wonder what that guy was thinking right before he decided to attack a 6ft5in, probable martial artist?“This is the smartest idea I’ve ever had or ever will have!”

Now that’s funny. I remember seeing a security guard getting manhandled at one point, then Big Dan was by the fighter’s side the next time.

Hey guys, Steve Mazzagatti spent about 8 years studying Hung Gar, Choy Lay Fut and Wing Chun, Gung fu. He did a little boxing and Muay Thai along the way too as a practitioner and trainer. Mikey G

Miragliotta is a martial artist. A couple of years ago, he visisted Sweden and taught flying heel hooks in the Pancrase gym in Stockholm. That’s all I know, though.

guys with tribal tattoos are either dbags or fighters. Either way they have bad taste and make bad decisions(like getting tribal tattoos).

by alexguy on Apr 21, 2008 9:48 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

haha I find this true more often than not…except in some cases they are “dbags & fighters” good stuff

by Chadx23 on Apr 21, 2008 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Or getting punched in the face for a living. Either way… bad idea for an opponent.

by Crank Johnson on Apr 22, 2008 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

there were supposedly a lot of fights in the stands during the event and on the streets after it was over.

by Gregg on Apr 21, 2008 9:52 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Crazy Canadians. They should be nice and peaceful like Kaleb Starnes.

Ha ha, Quarry looked like the Terminator & Starnes was the Running Man.

I did notice Big Dan Miragliotta walking out behind GSP during the main event. INTERESTING. In the past, they usuall have a handful of 70 year old men work as security guards walking next to the fighters as they make their way to the octagon. It would always make me laugh. Like Mr. Wrinkly Face Grandpa can do a better job protecting Chuck Liddell than Chuck can defending himself?

LOL, now maybe we will see every security guard in the UFC be under 70 years old and over 5’6".

definitely looks like a guy you want to mess with!

by dpb on Apr 21, 2008 10:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Miragliotta looks just like a white Houston Alexander.

by GSP still sucks on Apr 21, 2008 6:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

lmao, that is awesome! I wish there was a video of this. I swear, if I were a BJJ black belt I’d just go to bars and if some knucklehead was acting a fool I’d take his back like THAT and tap that fool out! it’d be sweet.

I’ve always thought it’d be cool to see Chuck in a bar fight just knocking kids out left and right as they come at him..

Dan trained martial arts since teenager and bjj since first ufc.

by george on May 6, 2008 6:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He’s such a nice bloke, we were drinking with him until 6am in a bar in Cologne after UFC 99.

by Einherjar on Jun 18, 2009 12:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Dan trained me back in the early-mid 90’s when MMA was just exploding on the scene. He is a very big, strong man, who would be a terror even if he hadn’t been studying MA for most of his life.

He is also one one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, so the guy who went after him must have been realy crazy.

by Joe on Jun 18, 2009 2:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yes he is a very nice guy i trained with him for years in new jersey
