That would be a good fight… There needs to be a middleweight belt they can all pass around, like a toy one… cuz’ none of these other guys are taking Silvas.

by RAWbert on Apr 21, 2008 9:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

thats exactly what i was thinking. imagine the guys that have to fight a number one contender fight and their prize is a first class beating by anderson silva

Where’s KEVIN at???? He’s going to go nuts over hearing the possibility of this one!

by ViolentMike on Apr 22, 2008 8:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

These fighters are tough thats why they are in the UFC, do you expect them all to pack their bags and leave the ufc cos of anderson?, there’s always some one who comes along.

I would rather see Nate Quarry against Bisping before Franklin. I think that would be a great fight and will help Bisping build his name in MW before he takes on the likes of Franklin.

by JP on Apr 21, 2008 9:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Quarry or Bisping fighting Cote would also be pretty entertaining match.

by Ade on Apr 22, 2008 7:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rich Franklin would completely dominate Michael Bisping. Rich Franklin is a better striker, clinch fighter, submission, submission defense, he is stronger, has fought better competiton, and is a former champion.

Franklin would make a showing out of Bisping.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Apr 21, 2008 9:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nope, Bisping’s striking is crisp and he could slowly pick apart Franklin and take a decision. Don’t write off the count!

by Nick J on Apr 22, 2008 5:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You are kidding.. right?

by "Mr. NC-17" on Apr 22, 2008 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No i’m afraid not. Rich looked a shadow of his former self even in winning at the weekend.

Yeah the Rich that destroyed Loiseau would maul Bisping but i think he is a changed man, mental scars and all that. Added to that Bispings Muai Thai clinch looked pretty good and we all know how Rich gets on with that.

by Nick J on Apr 22, 2008 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree Nick J, I think the new bisping would be too quick for him and would out kick box him, franklin is strong but if rashad couldnt through him around franklin wont be able to. Could see the count taking this one to imo

by UTD on Apr 22, 2008 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The new Bisbing is only impressive because he’s fighting cans again. Franklin will use him like the tool he is. Rich didn’t look so hot against Lutter because its a bad style match-up for him. If you remember, The spider didn’t really do any better than Rich against Lutter in round 1. Both finished things in round 2.

by PEZ on Apr 22, 2008 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

=

Rich destroyed David with a broken hand.

Bisping’s Maui Thai is nothing compared to Silva’s. Silva is a lot stronger than anybody in 185, and possibly 205. Bisping’s Maui Thai is nowhere near the level what so ever of Anderson. He looked good against a below average fighter. Bisping has fought only 1 caliber opponent and lost. Franklin is stronger, and has better angles. Franklin wins.

I could care less what the match ups are at middleweight beacuse I am truley startying to enjoy that division. It has so much depth and parity that all the fights wil be hard fought battles.

The UFC could match up the following middleweights however they want and I would be happy:

Bisping
Quarry
Cote
Leben
Maia
Herman
Leites
Marquardt
Kampman
Almeida
Tanner

I dont want to see J-mac or Lutter! I didnt include Okami because he probably gets next crack at Silva, and Hendo is too big time to fight anyone of these guys!

by john on Apr 22, 2008 8:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

THat is correct John, especially about Hendo – I would say that Ricardo Almeida and Nate Marquardt are the only guys on there that that would be worthy to fight Hendo after stringing together a couple of wins.

Although, the one problem I have with your list, is that I don’t think that Herman belongs there. Tanner is also questionable. I would actually put J-Mac on this list over both of these guys.

by ViolentMike on Apr 22, 2008 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course J-mac deserves to be on the list, but its my list and I hate him…so he is OFF!LOL Every once in a while I am entitled to a Biased oppinion, and this is it! LOL!

Tanner, right now does not deserve to be on the list, but I will keep him on for now…We will know much more about Tanner after his fight with Grove.

Herman is no top fighter thats for sure, but he could hang with most of the fighters on that list so I will leave him on it. He just doesnt match up well against Ju Jitsu wizards.

And YES, it is completely understood that no one is champ beside Anderson.

VM: u bring up good points that after a few more wins almeida and Marquardt might deserve to face Hendo, but right now the only people Hendo should fight at middleweight are Franklin and Silva (but he wont get a rematch any time soon with Silva, maybe in 2009)

by john on Apr 22, 2008 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now I understand. But didn’t Herman and J-Mac fight each other once? I wonder how that fight ended… LOL I root for Herman but I don’t know why. He is less well rounded than Chris Leben, and everyone gets on Leben’s case. I am done rooting for Herman.

by ViolentMike on Apr 22, 2008 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dont think I have really ever rooted for Ed “Not only am I the best fighter in the house, but the best looking guy in the house as well” Herman. I like him more as an underdog than as a favorite, because he is a tough kid and his fights are usually very entertaining. I have to admit he would probably towards the bottom of my list and in reality J-mac deserves ot be on that list.

When Leites beats Marquardt, time to show my boy THales the respect he deserves!

by john on Apr 22, 2008 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

now would be the perfect time for the hermann/grove rematch. loser leaves town.

by b.w. on Apr 22, 2008 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But the MW division is shaping of nicely, as long as its understood that no one besides Anderson will be champ.

by ViolentMike on Apr 22, 2008 9:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

A Franklin-Hendo fight would be much more interesting than Franklin-Count. Franklin is deeply seated at number 2 under Silva in my opinion and the only current guy who is legitimate to challenge that is Hendo. The Count should pick up some quality fights in this weight class before he goes knocking on the main Middle weights, those being Silva, Franklin, Hendo, and Okami. Maybe a Count-Leben fight would be in order.

by Smokes on Apr 25, 2008 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It would be closer than you think. I know you’re a big Franklin fan but Bisping is no joke. It would not be the walk over you think it would. I guarantee you that much anyway.

That’s just my unbiased view of things anyway.

by RobH86 on Apr 22, 2008 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s in response to Mr. NC-17 about Franklin schooling Bisping.

by RobH86 on Apr 22, 2008 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

RobH: I am with you on this one! Franklin would obviously be the favorite but i would not count Bisping out of that fight. IMO, I think Bisping is the faster striker and who knows what will happen if Rich gets blasted in his surgery plagued nose again.

It would be a good fight and Bisping winning would not be out of the question!

by Jizzo on Apr 21, 2008 10:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

bisping vs. quarry and franklin vs. leben would be good match ups. franklin vs. henderson would be ideal, but i think that fight should wait a little. franklin should fight one or two more people before hendo, because if franklin beat hendo (not saying that he would) right away than who would he fight next????silva, nobody wants to see that again(so soon anyways.)

build up both hendo and franklin with a couple good fights against decent fighters. then put them in there against each other for the number one contender fight.

by Bass on Apr 21, 2008 10:05 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

BINGO BASS!!!!! And what do they do with Hendo??? With you scenario, they can have Hendo’s next fight be against Patrick Cote. It would be a nice fight for Hendo to get him back in the win column.

How’s everyone feel about that???

Bisping vs Quarry
Franklin vs Leben
Hendo vs Cote

I also personally think that Big Dog Almeida and Damian Maia are on a collision course to fight each other – hopefully sooner rather than later.

by ViolentMike on Apr 22, 2008 9:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I absoluetley love this scenario! Good stuff guys! As for Almeida vs. Maia….it has to happen. Those 2 have such advanced ju jitsu that its beautidful to watch.

I would also like to see Almeida or Maia vs. Lutter so that they can shut Dana White up about Lutter having the best ju jitsu in the division. Lutter would get out classed on the ground by either fighter.

Also, if my boy, Thales Leites gets passed Marquardt, it will be time to start giving Thales the respect he deserves!

I am loving the idea of Bisping and Quarry!

by RobH86 on Apr 22, 2008 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

These would be great fights, but I just can’t see Leben’s “block punches with my face” style match up with the heavy hands of Frankin. Could Leben’s chin out last Frankin’s fists? Dought it, but it would be fun to watch. I would pay for it.

by mac daddy on Apr 22, 2008 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yea Quarry vs Bisping sounds right at this time…for Franklin i honestly still believe he’ll be better off bulking up a bit more and fighting at 205, in MW i dunno whose next for him…

by XxXFactor on Apr 21, 2008 10:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

actually looking at the MW division i can see Cote fighting Frankling next or how about Dan Henderson vs Rich Franklin???

Leben said he wants Bisping on the night Bisping won. Bisping will beat Franklin and Leben.

WRONG! He cant beat Franklin. Remember Franklin made it out of the first round with Silva (bearly)…that is a tough man!

Bisping has never Been Knocked out or beat up since fighting in his teens. hamill was the closest to it and that was because the size with Bisping being in the wrong weight class. so “Mr. NC-17” Bisping has never been anyones bitch in the octagon like Franklin was for silva. Bispin will get a fight with silva when he wins 2 or 3 more fights.

by Tony on Apr 21, 2008 10:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Then he can be silvas bitch too!

by Harry Triangle on Apr 22, 2008 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tony makes an excellent point. Bisping has never really been made anyone’s bitch. Hammill brought it to him, but he wasnt completely dominated or anything and still won the match. He and Rashad kind of ended in a stale mate, but both of those guys were a lot bigger than he was as well. I expect Bisping to be a force at MW. I’m not sure if he has what it takes to compete with the spider yet, but he’s on the right track. The only person that will beat the Spider is a good wrestler that isnt dumb enough to stand and trade punches like Hendo and Marquardt did. Lutter was the only one who dominated him but fell victim of a desperate submission attempt. I just dont think Bisping is a good enough wrestler to be able to take control of a fight like that. I do however think he will be able to take Rich Franklin down and do some damage, and possibly pull out a win but my money is still on Ace.

by c-war on Apr 22, 2008 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you forget bisping has yet to fight a caliber fighter..almost got owned by hamill got owned by evans! Rich was a smaller 205er like bisping. but has never faces a striker the likes of leben franklin and silva. LOL! so yeah franklin did get owned by silva…but you forget franklin will never be a gate keeper he will and upper echelon fighter. you have to be so high tothink that…you think “mr. NC-17” is out of his mind! dude out of all the arguments ive had hes had the more inteligent ones! you are out of your mind to think bisping can beat franklin…and you make a big underestimation of franklin just because he lost to silva! bisping almost got RNC by eric schafer and tko’ed by sinosic!

by twizted203 on Apr 22, 2008 12:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Silva would destroy Bisping!

by Justin on Apr 22, 2008 7:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bisping has never faced anyone newr the caliber of fighter that Silva and Franklin are. Bisping does not have a crisp stiking game and his sub defense is shaky at best. Rich is a brown belt in BJJ so advantage Rich. Rich would dominate Bisping in the clinch and end up getting the TKO.

When the Count fights some upper level competition then I will re think this… but untuil then WAR Franklin!

And no, I do not hate Bisping. I think he could be a great fighter if he would move to the U.S. and train with Randy.

by StayDown on Apr 22, 2008 7:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the match ups that make the most sense are:
Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson
Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben
Nate Quarry vs. Patrick Cote

by dakilla on Apr 21, 2008 10:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely, but the only problem is that the winner of Franklin/Hendo would HAVE to be the #1 contender. And if Rich somehow pulled off a win, nobody wants to see Silva/Franklin 3, especially not anytime soon.

I think that both Franklin and Hendo need to fight guys like Leben and Cote to get at least one win under thier belts before matching up.

Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson MUST fight each other. This was a known fact for years, back when Hendo was Pride 183lb champ and Rich was UFC 185lb champ. Chuck needed to fight Wanderlei. Hendo vs Franklin needs to happen. And Fedor vs Randy, DON’T GET ME STARTED! And I’ll settle for BJ’s 2003 submission win over Gomi. Don’t need to see that one again to believe that it will happen 99 times out of 100.

by ViolentMike on Apr 22, 2008 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would much rather see Franklin fight Hendo, as would pretty much anyone else who isn’t from the UK. But at the same time, I wouldn’t complain if they did feed Bisping to Franklin. I don’t like The Count, and seeing him get ripped into would be sweeeeeet.

by Toms Bombs on Apr 21, 2008 10:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Same here, Bisping needs to prove his worth in MW division before he gets to fight someone as good as Franklin. Leben or Quarry who are above him in the rankings should be his next fight or even possibly Tanner. Stick him in with an Ex-Champ and see how he does.

by UKmmaBOY on Apr 22, 2008 5:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Bisping would love this fight. It he wins he is right in the title picture and i don’t think Franklin looked good the other night.

Even if he looses its not all bad, everyone has lost to Rich bar Silva.

Bisping i promise you will want this fight.

by Nick J on Apr 22, 2008 5:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I called this one 2 weeks ago, told you he’d be fighting for a title after silva beats okami…good night all

by kevin on Apr 21, 2008 11:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lol you’ll be eating your own words once he loses to Franklin. No offense but there are atleast four I don’t think Bisbing has the skill to beat in the MW division. Silva, Franklin, Hendo, Okami… all of these guys get owned by each other and nobody else, they are the elite and there isn’t anyone in their weight class at the moment to prove otherwise.

by Smokes on Apr 25, 2008 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Leben, Quarry, or Franklin. Bisping just needs to be destroyed. He’s nowhere’s near as good as he thinks he is. It sucks to see guys like him and Hamil getting all the hype, when you have other guys from TUF like Davis still barely making the main card fights. I’d like to see him fight Leben first though.

by FCfightfan on Apr 21, 2008 11:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

im think Bisping needs one or tho fights before franklin.
I like see bisping against the winner of McFedries vs. Eastman (tuf 7 finale) or Alessio Sakara. Next Leben or Quarry, and then give him Rich Franklin

Bisping vs. McFedries/Eastman/Sakara
Franklin vs. Leben/Cote/Almeida
Hendo vs. Marquardt/Leites

and i forget

KALIB STARNES VS. ASAFFA POWEL (100 m.)

Toms Bombs – do you not rate Hamill? I think hamill is one of the strongest wrestlers in the world his stand up is good too. Bisping v Leben ok but if Bisping wins don’t cry and say he hasn’t fought anyone… because remember Leben couldn’t beat or knockout STARNES!

by Tony on Apr 21, 2008 11:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

but leben does have win over the the number 10 middleweight int he world! hamill is good but no where near top level 205! neither is bisping he is farther down the bunch! you serioulsy have no real valid points to proof this!

by twizted203 on Apr 22, 2008 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I will try and ‘proof this’.

The thing a lot of people forget when talking about Bisping is that he fought against two of the top wrestlers in a weight class that he was way undersized.

Wrestling is far and away his biggest flaw and he took both to close decisions.

To combat his poor wrestling he has developed a knack to get back to his feet.

The guy is 16-1. Give him a break, i don’t care what you say about him not fighting top teir, they are professional fighters and it is so easy to loose in MMA.

In middleweight i could see him causing anyone bar Silva and Hendo problems. His striking is good and no-one can keep him on the floor.

Leben is an idiot who he would just pick off and i think he would have too much for Quarry and even Marquart if he can keep it standing.

Franklin looked poor the other night (apart from the arm bar escape that was very impressive) and i think he is not the same fighter that he was. I know the commentry team were saying how great he is to bounce back but if Lutter had of even looked at a treadmill he would have won that fight.

Bisping knocks out Franklin in London from Silva style knees to the head, wait and see.

by Nick J on Apr 22, 2008 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bisping might be able to pick apart Chris Leben, but he can NOT knock out Chris Leben. Bisping does not posses KO power – at least he didn’t at the LHW division. Chris Leben has been hit by the hardest hitters in the division and was only KO’d by Anderson Silva – PLUS he got up a few times during the Spider’s unslaught. That can’t be said for any of Silva’s other opponents. The only time they get up is if they get saved by the bell or the doctors are huddled around them.

Even if Bisping was able to pick apart Leben for the majority of the fight, or heck, the first 14 minutes and 30 seconds, Chris Leben is ALWAYS one punch away from a KO win. Please reference Terry Martin fight. He was losing that fight up until the KO punch.

Leben/Bisping is a fight I want to see for sure.

by ViolentMike on Apr 22, 2008 10:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t agree with most, I think Franklin should be more worried of the new Bisping then the other way round.

by Tony on Apr 21, 2008 11:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This would be way too premature. Bisping needs to be brought along VERY slowly. Even Quarry would be moving too quickly. Leben seems like the right choice, and I wouldn’t give Bisping more than a 50% shot at getting past him. To Bisping’s credit, he fights smart and I think if the fight goes the distance and is close, he takes it. Then maybe you talk about Nate Quarry. Franklin right now would KO him in 1.

by Revjames13 on Apr 21, 2008 11:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

From Charles McCarthy to Rich Franklin…………wow. Thats just too big a jump dude. No way he beats Ace. Not yet anyhow. I agree with previous blogs sayin leben or Quarry. I guess it would be exciting but too dangerous for bisping (hes just not ready for Rich yet), and what exactly does Franklin have to gain by taking this fight? Besides avoiding facial reconstruction or death by Silva knee.

Yep good shout, didn’t think of that.

I think Bisping has to be put on this card against someone for the hometown fans. If not vs Rich then Leben or Quarry.

by Nick J on Apr 22, 2008 5:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Whether you think Bisping is a great fighter or not, you can’t disagree that MW division got just a little more interesting with “The Count” joining the ranks, especially with Leben, Cote, and Quarry all looking like better fighters now.
No one has mentioned this yet, but how about Bisping vs Evan Tanner? I think it fits for both of these fighters. Tanner is trying to rebound, and Bisping is trying to establish himself in MW and what better way other than against the former MW champ? This would be an excellent test for both of these guys.

by c-war on Apr 22, 2008 12:36 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Bisping = Overrated. He STILL hasn’t beat anybody good. Hamil doesn’t count, cause Hamil won. Dana keeps pushing this twit and I don’t know why…he must be cheap.
They should be pushing Hendo, Marquardt, Leben, Cote, Kampmann, Mcfedries and build on Quarry’s new fans. All these other guys are much more EXCITING fighters that finish fights. Rich is on a dif. level. he’ll expose him.
The funny thing is, this is all distraction. They have no matchup for Silva, and they know it. :>

by Ground-Game on Apr 22, 2008 2:12 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Okami is by far the best stall tactic they have available. If they were smart they would buy the MW division some time with an Andreson/Okami fight.

by The Anomaly on Apr 22, 2008 2:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t understand your comments!?!? “All these other guys are much more EXCITING fighters that finish fights.”

I am sorry but what fight did you watch on Saturday, Bisping destroyed McCarthy, so once again another Bisping hating comment that doesn’t make sense.

“He STILL hasn’t beat anybody good.” Didn’t he win TUF (whatever season it was) – to do that you have to beat all the other guys.

Now I am not saying he is ready for Franklin but please lay off the stupid comments. The same people were moaning a year ago that the MW division was poor (the same that they are doing now with HW division). The MW division looks pretty decent to me and so will the HW division pretty soon to.

Silva vs Okami
Henderson vs Franklin
Bisping vs Leben

That’ll be a goodnight of MW action.

what I will like to see happen now is:

Henderson vs. Franklin (since it will redefine the no.1 contender, though not likely either will force Anderson to break a sweat)
Bisping vs. Quarry (to see who is the no. 3 contender in the division, and make for an interesting fight)
Silva vs. Okami (not that Okami deserves it, but Anderson has some unfinished business)
Belcher vs. Leben (for ****s and giggles)

Leben who couldnt beat STARNES HAHAHA. Hamill lost unlucky mate and Evans cuddled Bisping for 2 rounds. Bisping fights he doesnt cuddle like Evans and Hamill… so when is a american going to dominate and beat up Bisping like so many claim? Because it hasn’t happened yet. BISPING HAS NEVER BEEN KNOCKED OUT OR EALLY BEAT UP IN HIS LIFE THE CLOSEST TO THAT WAS A BIGGER MAN Hamill. Now Bisping is the bigger man and he will walk through the division.

All this talk has shown that the Middleweight is not as bare as all that. Rich, Bisping, Tanner, Okami, Leben, Quarry, Marquart, Almeida, Hendo.

“But as far as winning a title at middleweight, you have to remember this was his first fight.

“I know he will be keen to go after that world title — like every fighter, he believes in his skills.

“But my feeling is he should have about four fights before he goes for a title.

The American had spent weeks badmouthing the Brit and even had the audacity to laugh at him halfway through the one and only round here in Montreal.

Bisping said: "I decided that I wouldn’t let all that grinning get to me — and he wasn’t laughing at the end of the fight, was he?

“I wanted to get back to winning ways and this is just what I wanted. The only disappointing thing was that I ended up on the floor once.

“However, he had a smart game plan, coming at me with his combinations. He was also covering up well, so I had to get to him with my knees and the uppercuts and it worked.

“It was the perfect result for me, but I am not getting carried away by it. I will just bide my time now and have another fight this year before really going for that world title later on.”

When you think about it the middleweight division has really gotten more exciting. Last year it looked like a barren wasteland. I know Anderson is in another league but it could be a great battle for best of the rest…so you can get your face mangled by Silva. Dan got off lightly.

for me bisping should fight either chris leben or quarry, also theres the possibility of wandy silva dropping down to MW after his fight with jardine , that would add another name to the list of talent already there , wandy vs henderson ???
