Because they only had so much time. That’s how that aprt of the show works, they have someone sit down there and fire questions at them.

DANA WHITE Says “TRAVIS LUTTER Will Get A Title Shot” The Only LEGIT THREAT To SILVA?
Dana said that if lutter beats rick franklin he will get a title shot be4 okami.
This makes me really hope that Franklin beats Lutter. I dont ever want to see him fight for the title again.
by john on Apr 19, 2008 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions
I would much rather see Lutter-Silva II than Franklin-Silva III. I know it’s crap that he didn’t make weight for the fight, and he deserves the shit he gets for that. However, Lutter’s still a very talented fighter who has as good if not better chance to beat Silva than anyone else in the MW division. Franklin even said himself that he doesn’t think the fans really want to see him fight Silva again. I’ve been a big Rich Franklin fan for a long time, and I always love to watch him compete. As a result I hate watching him get taken apart by Silva repeatedly. Either way, I’m excited to see him fight Lutter, it should be a hell of a shot.

yeah so he talks most of the time and doesnt let dana properly answer the questions…he even goes as far as arguing with his own panel!!

He looked freaky and like Dracula, and was throwing shit at him. Before Dana could complete a sentence, then the subject changed, and making comparisons to WWE. Besides the State Athletic Commissions regulate and sanction fights, not the UFC, they bring it to the table. Dana has even said in the past that in order to be completely legitimate, they had to conform to the same regs as boxing. WWE, the E is for Entertainment, and Dana said “we are a SPORT”.

Q: Do you regret buying Pride?
A: No, we got some great fighters, we got the biggest library of MMA videos and a company I considered a competitor is gone.
What a douche!
by Can't wait on Apr 19, 2008 11:38 AM EDT reply actions
I’m sure that’s what you would have called the owners of Pride had THEY bought out and shut down UFC just because they can.
Maybe he was a fan of the sport at some time (doubt it) but he’s only a fan of money now.
by Can't wait on Apr 19, 2008 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Pride’s financials were terrible. If it wasn’t bought by Zuffa, it either would have been bought by somebody else or it would have just gone belly up.
But let’s say Pride had a whole bunch of capital and could afford to buy the UFC, Zuffa would never sell. Pride couldn’t hack it—they were forced to sell.
by RHV on Apr 19, 2008 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions
If Coca Cola could buy Pespi & put them out of busines they would, UFC did it to Pride. Thats business.
by UKmmaBOY on Apr 21, 2008 4:31 AM EDT up reply actions
Three current champions are here because Dana bought PRIDE (A. Silva, Rampage, Big Nog). We also have Ninja Rua, Wandy, we had Cro Cop, who is still a huge star despite poor showings in UFC. What’s so douchey about that?
by PW on Apr 19, 2008 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions
I consider myself being a huge Pride FC lover, I’m sad that it’s gone but at the end of the day business is business. I’m a Dana hater, and usually I’m not a hater of anyone except him with the only reason of him taking down Pride, but you have to swallow your pride sometimes and recognize that what he did was huge for the UFC. He’s just being smart. Microsoft didn’t get to where it is today if they hadn’t got rid of their competitors (I hate Microsoft too!) and this is what Dana did, got rid of his competitor. So can we really blame the guy? Just like he said, he got more fighters (LHW didn’t used to be stacked as it is today), got a huge MMA video library, got rid of their competitor, got three new champions and most of all, got a new audience tuning in to the UFC (most people that used to watch only Pride outside of japan are now buying UFC PPVs, I’m living proof of that). Again, business is nasty sometimes, so I hate you Dana, but good job getting to where you are :)
PS: don’t worry ppl, the UFC will have new competitors sooner than later, it’s just a matter of time so we can see where these new organizations stand after a year or two.

A. Silva fought a whopping 5 times in Pride, and was 3-2. He made his name fighting all over the place before coming to the UFC. That’s only 2 more fights in Pride than Chuck. Anderson is not a “Pride guy”.
The UFC didn’t get Rampage in the Pride buyout, they bought the WFA to get him. He had already left Pride.
Of those 3 only Nog signed after the buyout.
The UFC doesn’t have Ninja Rua, they do have Shogun though.
Pride died because Zuffa couln’t figure out how to run the business in Japan. However the previous owners obviously didn’t do such a bang up job themselves. So I agree, he’s not a douche…in this instance.
by MongoMan on Apr 19, 2008 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions
debating weather a. silva and rampage were pride fighters or not is such an old debate that will get no where and I’m sure we’re all pretty tired of defending our sides. Can we just agree that buying Pride brought over top competition to the UFC? Also, MongoMan, how can you say the previous owners didn’t do a bang up job when they filled the saitama arena with 50k ppl each event? They lost their TV deal because of the japanese mafia, that’s the only reason they were in trouble.
by linx on Apr 19, 2008 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions
linx. yeah 50k people but how much were they charging per ticket. if the ufc sold tickets for $20 a pop they would sell out football stadium.
by b.w. on Apr 19, 2008 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions
ye they sold em in yen for starters and pride had a huge fan base in japan and stadiums were allowed to hold events in america the ufc cant get a big stadium to fill
by the heat on Apr 19, 2008 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Good question. I’m not sure how much they charged for the range of seats, but it must have been good if the UFC were interested in buying them (they wouldn’t want to invest in something that it’s not worth right?). I think in a way, they truly wanted to keep the japanese market open, but just didn’t know how to deal with the japanese politics and ultimately the reason for the closure of Pride FC. still, would be nice to know how much they charged for the range of seats if anyone knows it please share your thoughts (given the fact that the PPV buy for Pride was just about the same as the current PPV buy for UFC here in Brazil, I’d imagine the range for value at the gate wouldn’t be much different).

the interviewer is not new to mma or to interviewing dana white you all!!!
and dana is a piece of crap lier he bought pride to buy the comitiiioon…then dana says he has no problem with competition yeahif the compitiion is bad dana welcomes it but when they are pretty good he says they suck or his rich billionares bail him out buying the competition…??

by GORANDY on Apr 19, 2008 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions
He doesn’t regret buy Pride, he just regrets paying Millions $$$ way too much for it!
by THORAZINE on Apr 21, 2008 1:49 AM EDT up reply actions
Pretty sure… the interviewer should have stayed in the condom.
by Sam Cupitt on Apr 19, 2008 11:44 AM EDT reply actions
I have to agree. I hate Michael Landsberg. I have no idea where this guys ego comes from, because he has nothing going for him. He’s just a loud-mouthed, arrogant jack-ass. Although, Dana proved that he’s louder!

I laughed so hard when the interviewer asked him the capital of Canada…He did get it eventually, competitive little baldy.
Fair play Dana White.

Can we get the biggest MMA mgul on a planet a better shirt please?! LOL! I swear he was wearing that in yesterday’s video too.
by kama kaze on Apr 19, 2008 1:27 PM EDT reply actions
lol…for once Dana White is speechless. maybe it’s due to the lack of profanity.
by BigFatManiac on Apr 19, 2008 1:40 PM EDT reply actions
that was a great interview, and while I’m not a huge fan of Dana, but he has mede the sport what it is today

wasn’t that bad?! Thought Dana handled it all well – funny comment about the sleepin pills
by stink47 on Apr 19, 2008 2:36 PM EDT reply actions
Dana did a good job handling those low blows! OTR just got on the band wagon, they have no idea what Dana has done for the sport. The host is a tool.
by rctrue on Apr 19, 2008 4:16 PM EDT reply actions
Landsberg is a complete tool. Yeah, let me prepare a number of questions, fire them off at you and give you 5 seconds to answer when the actual answer requires longer.
It’s a stupid segment of the show designed to make the interviewee look like a fool.
by JB on Apr 19, 2008 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions
The host is a clown, whether people like the UFC or not, they make good fights happen for the most part. Dana has done a lot for MMA. It would be better if fighters were compensated better, but they do have a business to run so I understand. But he does love himself quite a bit much.
by PitBullNY on Apr 19, 2008 4:57 PM EDT reply actions
hahaha Dana handeled it just fine. How was he speechless? Because not every thing he said was clever? That dude with the weird looking lips didn’t really effect him. I’m pretty sure Dana could care less. I don’t understand why people hate him. He hasn’t done everything perfect but he HAS done a lot for the sport. He DID make Liddell and Silva happen and THAT was pretty cool.
by RyanHobbs on Apr 19, 2008 5:09 PM EDT reply actions
To anyone that thinks that Dana was ambushed you need to watch Meet The Press when they have a conservative on. Its almost alway 3 on 1. This wasn’t even close. It was much more of a spirited debate with the panel agreeing with Dana for the most part.
As far as you Dana haters go take some advice: quit hating on things so much it’s not healthy.
by DonnyG on Apr 19, 2008 5:34 PM EDT reply actions
Wow… talk about blindsided.
Interviewer is a toolbag.
by Luppers on Apr 19, 2008 6:40 PM EDT reply actions
Why is it that when a person or company works hard and becomes number one the whole world all of a sudden hates it. I have no doubt that things are not perfect in the UFC, but they are number one for a reason. Just like Wal-Mart, Tiger Woods, and Microsoft, Dana White and the UFC have gotten the job done. Are they supposed to apologize for that???
by Big House on Apr 19, 2008 7:46 PM EDT reply actions
thats why Wal wmart should go to china and thats why we have APPLe computers retard
by GORANDY on Apr 19, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions
To all the people who say the UFC is the top company in the world, you are wrong. They are the top in the US. Not the world.
by Hookem on Apr 19, 2008 8:44 PM EDT reply actions
I don’t pretend to know everything in worldly MMA affairs but I ask you to provide some facts to back this up. What companies running MMA events outside of the US are larger/more profitable?
by Greggo on Apr 19, 2008 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions
I dont pretend either. I know for a FACT, the UFC, is the top MMa promotion in the world….
This dude must be high…And not Nick Diaz high , he is more like Nick Nolte high..Because that post was retarded.
by Stagger-Lee on Apr 19, 2008 10:04 PM EDT up reply actions
UFC is a multi billion dollar industry, they just had a thing on the internet about how much its worth in Forbes.com. People hate Dana White cause he is on top of the mountain and he tells it like it is. People try to tear down what they are jealous of, all Dana haters wish they were him, its about all of them hating to love him. Umm…by the way…what other fight promotion is bigger or pays more than the UFC?? I will give you a list, EliteXC, WEC, Cage Rage, IFL, King of the Cage, Dream, Affliction (sylvia vs fedor under new promotion), Rage in the Cage, Strikeforce?? More top level fighters in UFC, no other promotion pays more so they do just fine!

Im curious to hear what Dana thought of the experience. Its like a heated argument where you cant get a word in, I guess it has a certain something to offer, but I thought the interveiw was frustrating to watch.
