This looks pretty interesting, unlike that never back down film.

“Take the fight out of your face” – such a badass line.
David Mamet looks like he’s made an awesome movie!

I guess channel 13 isn’t a network channel cuz it’s been airing UFC WIRED for sometime now?

Look the guy up in wiki. then IMDB.com Been writing plays and directing movies for 20+ years. Puts current wife in current films. Uses same cast from movie to movie. Joe Montegna and William H Macy and J.Tl Walsh and Ricky Jay as core cast over the years. Uses staccato tempo for his actors delivery of lines. Intense, thoughtful and complete. You will have something meaningful to remember, think about and talk about after viewing a Mamet film. You haven’t heard of him because A,) he doesn’t put out films often and B.) he might not be writing to your demographic. If you have netflix.com I highly recommend “House Of Games” from the 80’s. And “Things Change” with Don Ameche (Using Don Ameche in Things Change was like using Travolta in Pulp Fiction… it brought them out of retirement in a fabulous performance!)Hope that helps! Take a bunch of people to see REDBELT. The cast alone is stunning (Tim Allen…well I can’t say stunning for him… Galaxy Quest pops into my head when I see him)

Clips made it sound like it won’t compare to “never back down.” I guess it isn’t fair to compare them, because NBD was really awesome.

Yeah I actually want to watch this one, not like Never Back Down, in which I will avoid watching.

David Mamet is one of the most respected and talented writers in Hollywood and Broadway. He wrote Glengarry Glen Ross (“Coffee is for closers”), Heist, Ronin, Spartan, The Edge and he produces The Unit. He’s also written a butt load of books and plays. All of them are about being badasses but in different things.

the story has to come first, then the sport. thats the only way any sports movie works.

this movie looks great.
even though im not too sure about that brown belt losing his cool and then eventually getting the blackbelt, wheres the self control and respect for your opponent?
either way im with tom bombs with avoiding never back down and watching this one.

David Mamet is a terrific writer. This film has potential simply because he’s involved in it.
Although I haven’t seen it yet, I think the comparison of Redbelt to Never Back Down is better off avoided. Although they both have the MMA backdrop, they seem to be intended for different audiences. NBD would fare better being compared to Karate Kid. I actually like Karate Kid (and NBD isn’t hateful either), but strictly as entertainment. they’re not exactly examples of classic cinema.
Redbelt on the other hand seems to have larger potential, although we’ll have to wait and see just how good it is.

in the 5th clip i knew the guy was going to stand back up and punch tim, this scene has been done TO DEATH, film writters are really not original these days

David Mamet is also a big fan of UFC & he is also a purple belt in Ju-Jitsu so i believe.

This movie looks good. Glad to see a movie not try to glorify the worst parts of the sport for teenagers.

Max Martini is pretty badass in the Unit. He’s in a perfect roll for this film. The film is going to be great, IMO.

Yeah. highly regarded people who hand out black belts happening in a locker room. Other than that, this movie looks like it has real promise.

Had a chance to see this movie last week. it is a very good movie. Very good. Ending was great too, but with only about 5 minutes of total footage, no need to show couture as being a star in the movie
