Billy O’Reilly is such a jerk off. I never care what he has to say and I have never seen his program. The only time I see his ugly mug is when he makes some stupid remark that makes its way onto “Best Week Ever” or “Talk Soup” or those type of shows.

Bill O’Reilly is a douche. No one likes him. Seriously. Everyone hates the guy. And like ViolentMike said. The only time I ever hear about him is when he says something stupid and it ends up everywhere.

by dcsoldier187 on Apr 11, 2008 10:35 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Im sorry but this is why MMA gets the nack or bad rep, when you have people saying they are going to snap his head off. The guy is what 60, and you are saying you will RNC him and snap his head off.

Look, I dont like Bill what so ever, but MMA gets this wrap of having people inside of an octagon, and think they are going to kill one another, and it makes the sport look bad to people who dont understand it, well when you got people saying they want him to die, and they are going to snap his head off, look who is standing in the right as of now.

Look, there has been more deaths inside a professional wrestling ring, than MMA. There has been more deaths to Boxers inside of a boxing ring, than MMA.

Its a brutal sport, but it is also a safe and regulated sport. I would like to offer Bill a ticket to the next UFC. I will literally buy him a ticket to UFC 84 Sherk vs. Penn if he agrees to go.

People like him need to see and realize that this is a competition, and a sport. These guys are athlete’s who go out there and train every day to accomplish something in the future. To have people like Bill crush down on this, because they simply do not understand it, is the reason why MMA is still really only for the passionate loyal fans.

Hopefully he doesn’t read this board then!!!

I think the sport has come a long way. One thing that I like to note is that there hasn’t been any near riots where a fighters cornermen go and attack the other fighter and chaos ensues in the ring.

MMA has come a long way and to me the last thing that they have to fix is the TUF show. The “fighters” on that show act like idiots and is prime time TV showing that there are still goofs in this sport.

It is so sad to see what the American people are force fed daily, through the so called voice of their people. To be represented by three individuals whose average age is 115 years old, is assinine. The saddest part of this whole situation is, that the first, and for the most part, only impression of MMA, is these three, completely uneducated to the sport individual opinions. I can only hope that the American public (myself not completely aware, due to the fact that I’m Canadian) can see past their uneducated views, to form their own opinions.

Agreed. It seems as if most news shows, especially FOX, have forgotten how to simply report the news and let the public make up their own minds. They would rather attempt to influence with their one-sided views and call that the “facts.”

by Clayton on Apr 11, 2008 10:48 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It’s one thing for the average person to be ignorant about mma. However, when your job is to report on a subject you should do research. I’m sure the only thing that these people have seen about mma are the 2 second video clips. O’riely himself said that they gouge, which obviously is not true and shows how unkowlegable he is. That is common knowlege for even a basic mma fan.

by dana's cheap on Apr 11, 2008 10:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They slammed Couric more than they did MMA. The piece was just under 7 mins and they only hit on MMA for a fraction of the last 2 mins. The brutality of the sport is part of its appeal and a big reason why people watch it (at least its one of the many reasons I enjoy MMA). It is also geard towards young single men, which in fact do make up the vast majority of fans. I wouldnt go as far as to call it barbaric, but thats only an opinion, much like the many that put in these threads daily. Dont just try to find a reason to hate on O’Reily. He is a libertarian, and if you dont know what that means look it up. Bottom line, MMA was hardly even talked about in this video. And I know its not as ‘kick-ass’ as the shows ‘Talk Soup’ or ‘Best Week Ever’ (you know, shows for people who cant form their own educated opinion on anything), but if you go to Foxnews.com and look in their video archives, they have a quite a few good video interviews and stories about MMA. Bottom line- go put your soap box away!

I agree with you mexicutioner. The comments here are predictable. If you don’t agree with what someone else has to say, you call them names. I usually agree with O’Reilly. I’m an mma fan but I do agree with O’Reilly that MMA has brutality to it. Who watched the last episode of TUF? Who would say that knockout wasn’t brutal?

by RealDrew on Apr 11, 2008 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was pretty brutal, and people do want to see that. I know I like a good knockout. At the same time it was good to see that dude was ok after. Sometime people just dont like to hear the truth, especially when it applies to them. Nothing wrong with MMA beign a little brutal, in my opinion.

Who gives a fuck what these old fuckers say. They have no clue about the sport. They would rather watch re-runs of I love Lucy. That is why CBS is trying to cater to the younger demographic because no one gives a fuck about old people who are gonna die in a few years. So just get it over with and die you old fucks.

I don’t hate Fox News like everyone here seems to, but it does seem odd that they don’t have a single defender of the sport to present an opposing view point.

It would be nice if they got someone articulate too. Put Kenny Florian on the show to defend it.

What these “fair and balanced” types forget is, they used to play boxing matches on primetime TV all the time. There were no PPV’s, so the “all american family” could watch the likes of Muhammed ALI or Joe Frazier for free. This is not only good for the network, it’s great for MMA as a whole.

I’m happy about the fact that MMA will get to be seen by a much wider audience and it’s about time that it’s becoming much more mainstream. Hopefully it will let people see how much skill, intellect and sportsmanship is involved in this sport.

However, being in “prime time” (between 6pm-10pm) will open up a whole other can of worms. Parents will not do their jobs and inform their kids that this is for real and should not be done in the schoolyards. Parents are morons these days and don’t monitor what their kids are doing. Kids will see this and think its cool and go to school the next day trying head kicks, armbars, chokeholds, etc. and the controversy will only get worse.

If they keep it on the major networks but leave it until after 9 or 10 at night with a disclaimer before hand, we will avoid the uproar that is bound to happen.

I let my 8 yr. old watch occasionally, if it’s a fight I’ve seen before and know that it’s not too bloody or brutal and always explain to him that it is for real and that it really hurts when these guys get hit. Not to mention that choking someone out is really dangerous. He knows that if he wants to try this stuff then he has to enroll in the proper classes first (BJJ, karate, boxing, etc.)

They’re right. MMA is brutal. It’s not for everyone. If they don’t like it, they don’t have to watch it. I don’t like him, so I don’t watch his show.

The irony is that CBS used to be full of family friendly shows like Touched by and Angel and they all got cancelled. The networks just want to give the people what they want so they can make money. It’s as simple as that. If enought people are offended at MMA, then they won’t watch and it will get cancelled. I’m still amazed that enough people watch his show that it doesn’t get cancelled.

In regard to the male, non-O’Reilly talking head and his statement that American culture had values back in the day, let’s look at other cultural shifts since his beloved I Love Lucy was on the air: Black people can now go to school, eat lunch, ride buses, etc. with white people; senators are no longer conjuring and falsifying evidence of communist sympathy to imprison people; there were no Miranda rights; there was no Title IX. There’s probably a lot more, but I’ve made my point.

by the_mexicutioner on Apr 11, 2008 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No I didn’t, and I don’t even know the dude’s name, so it can’t be personal. He stated that we’ve lost all our values since the 50s when Lucy aired and trash like MMA would never be on TV. My counterpoint to that is that the era that he was referencing was hardly full of solid and upstanding values, thus defeating his argument.

by PW on Apr 11, 2008 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dont think he was refering to people gaining or losing civil liberties or corruption in government. Anyone with common sense would understand that. And by personal I ment your personal agenda, not personal in reference to Bernie Goldberg.

by the_mexicutioner on Apr 11, 2008 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

First, if you truly knew my personal agenda I would have you on the next cosmic particle transport beam to Bolticon-5 of the Orion nebula for a lifetime of hard labor. Second, Admiral Grayhair was referencing the overall wholesomeness of our values of America back in the days of I Love Lucy, and how our loss of that wholesomeness resulted in Kimbo Slice being shown on network television. My point, and I don’t think I can make this much clearer, is that even though people of his age like to look back on the 50s with great fondness and sepia-toned flashbacks, their values were hardly ideal, giving him little room to criticize the values of you, me or anyone else who might enjoy watching a little MMA on free TV.

Its been said many times here but I will re-say it. Bill O’Riley is a douche, racist (if you have not heard the story look it up about him going to Silvia’s in NYC and his comments about it afterwards) and I have to agree with Keith Olbermann, Bill O is truely slowly slipping into senality. Fixed (or Faux) News has been this way for a long long time. Their treatment of anything they dont like (whether it be MMA or atheism) is they bring on a bunch of people who are against it and no one to discuss the other side or no one who is even willing to play devils advocate. News stations are supposed to be fair and balanced, obviously they are going to sway a little more towards their viewership (Fixed News to Republics – MSNBC to Democrats) but their facts should be at least correct and fair.

MMA on Prime Time cable will be really testing the waters so to speak in my opinion. If the ratings are good which as long as all the 18 – 25 Males whom MMA relies on so much turn in, they will keep showing it simply because it brings them viewership. Bill O can sit there and bash CBS all he wants for puting MMA on prime time but I would much rather see MMA then any of the fox atrocities whether that be Americal Idol, rehashed movies made to look new series (Night Rider & Terminator) or whatever else crap they decide to show (granted all station do have their fair share of BS shows)

I’m so sick of these far right know it all’s telling us how we should live our life. What place is it of any of their’s to say what should or should not be on tv? I understand that the values of each generation differ greatly, and I even accept the fact that many if not most people will view this sport as a brutal bloodfest, but get with the reality people: MMA is a marketer’s dream. No other sport has been able to so quickly capture and entire age group that crosses the demographics of race, income, and political preference(sometimes). So I guess my point is that regardless of your opinion Bill, stick with the facts: two men get into a cage/ring and try to show their mastery of any number of various combat disciplines, and many millions of people will pay money to watch this “brutality”.

The I do not hear the people who complain about mixed martial arts complaining about boxing. I do not hear them complaining about kickboxing. I do not hear them complaining about wrestling.

So why is it that they complain about athletes doing all 3 at once? What is it about the aggregate of legitimate sporting activities that makes the result illegitimate?

There’s just no logic to it.

I love MMA in primetime, but cbs might have been the wrong station. I mean, who here agrees? when i think cbs, i think Edward R. Murrow, mike wallace, 60 minutes, amazing news coverage, great dramas. and im only 25!!!i do see mma kind of dragging that legacy down. I do understand times change, and you need to have that fresher audience, but for this station, it might be too soon.

i’m so tired of news shows like this!
all of them, no matter the network, have one-sided talks.
they don’t debate. debate implys they let another person state his/her own veiws. these “news anchors” say their opinion and if anyone disagrees with them they simply try to talk over them, ignore them, or insult them until it looks like nothing more than a mudslinging match; and for that reason, non of the people like bill deserve the time of day.
nobody has had a real debate about the merit of mma. they call it barbaric and degrade the sport’s integrity without ever having seen an mma match, they only continue to mudsling and condemn the sport.

by killswitch on Apr 11, 2008 7:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

So a network loses credibility when it airs shows rife with violence. I wonder if the news available on Fox (and anywhere else, for that matter) with its endless parades of rapes, murders, shootings, bombings, and so on. What is the redeeming social value of that? In MMA, at least, the purpose of watching is to enjoy the competition and athleticism, and not to have some sort of odd, fetishized craving for the random acts of violence we see constantly headlining our nightly news programs. Even funnier is the appeal to “family friendly” shows like I Love Lucy, with its ever-present theme of domestic violence.

Bill O’Reilly wouldn’t know “culture” if it fucked him in the ass. His own show is hardly a testament to our culture as Americans, and is in fact an embarrasment for most of us, who wince at the fact that he gets ratings at all, some of it from people who take him seriously and who aren’t just scouring his shows for blooper-reel material to feature his stupidity.

And as a final aside, I think O’Reilly’s promotion of hare-brained thinking, fear-mongering, and virtually everything else he stands for is infinitely more dangerous to our society than any sport could ever hope to be, aside from possibly NASCAR.

by Saint Gasoline on Apr 11, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I wish O’Reilly would do us all a favor…find the highest building he can and swan dive off…he is a perverted bigot racist and his opinions mean dog shit! My biggest problem is that he is talking about primetime. The first show is on tonight after poker in the dark. Yes, the show will be on prime time television very soon, but as a competitor in mma, I find O’Reilly’s characterization inflammatory. If he would watch an mma show, he might change his opinion. I won’t hold my breath, but it just might happen.

I don’t know which is more brutal MMA or watching Bill O’Reilly drone on for 1 hr.

O’Reilly n’ Group should stick to reporting on the brutally corrupt world of politics.

I actually agree with O’Reilly most of the time, but he made me laugh by saying, the gouging, brutality, etc… lol
They never mentioned how controlled it is by the athletic commission, etc…

I have been wanting to say something, but I wanted to wait until after the elections. One of the biggest mistake the American public made was electing Mr. Obama. I am not a bigot, and I wouldn’t care if, Mr. Obama was purple with yellow poka dots, he is a mistake the American public has made. This man will make America into a Socialistic country and take our freedoms away.

When this happens, I don’t want to hear any complaints from anyone. I’ll probably laugh at the American publics stupidity, especially the news medias.

Mr. O’Reilly thank you for opening our eyes to trouble our country is in.

For all of our Congressmen and women; to all of our Senators may I say – “The Constitution of the United States of America needs to be protected and upheld” – I am LCpl Jim A Rogers,
USMC Ret. Your a— is the grass and “We The People” are the lawn mowers. I VOTE!
