i dont like sean or bj but bj sure did kick the sh*t out of him but bj sure will get it in return when he fights George St. Pierre :]

LoL! Him, Bonds, and Clemens all did a co-workout article.

Thats a lot of training . . . and its still not enough to interupt BJ’s rise to glory.

Someone give him an extra dose of HGH…it still won’t be enough to stop BJ from beating (and making him suffer) in the first round
by kevin on Apr 10, 2008 12:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m a BJ fan. However, I’m a little concerned about BJ’s cardio up against Sherk. BJ seemed beat at the end of his last fight. Maybe without the crack in his viens, Sherk will be somewhat subdued.

He looked beat.. But I think it was more to do with emotion, at winning the title and the belt.
Just my 2cts

Ya, I believe it is the same workout regimen that Barry Bonds used. Sherk looks like a mini Batista.
by doubled on Apr 10, 2008 12:40 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
thats a ton of strength training! deng! he should crank it up on the SUBMISSION TRAINING! ya think?! how about putting guys away?
by kama kaze on Apr 10, 2008 12:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That what i was thinking. That is way to much strength training. He should work more on Flexibility training because he is way to stiff. Or work on his weaknesses like Submissions, Stand-up. Thats what a mix-martial artist should do, improve his weaknesses. I guess he thinks the STERIODS will do that for him.
by Emanuel0523 on Apr 11, 2008 1:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yea.. he dominates with raw strength on the ground. his worst weakness is his reach though…lol surgery maybe?
by kama kaze on Apr 11, 2008 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
his training regimen varies from when he’s cycling or off his steriod cycle!!! sherk is such a joke, all his fights go the distance b/c his stand up ang bjj pretty much suck. he can just wrestle guys and hold them down, just like hughes. he hasnt evolved with the sport and bj will beat him and hopefully so will a few other guys and send him packing.

Off topic but there was one knee in particular against Franca when I thought Sherk was out. He face planted into the canvas and I’m convinced that kind of woke him back up. Does anyone remember that? It was strange.

DreamFighters.com:
Tim Sylvia Vs. Fedor
Andrei Arlovski Vs. Ben Rothwell
Babalu Vs. Mike Whitehead
Pedro Rizzo Vs. Josh Barnett
Alexander Emelienenko vs. TBA
These are however rumors, and from limited sources, but we will bring you confirmation once it happens.
Does this mean that Arlovski is not going to re sign with the UFC?
by john on Apr 10, 2008 1:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If and when it’s signed, that is what it means buddy. UFC doesn’t cross promote, and their HW division sucks, so why would a legitimate top 10 guy want to be in the UFC as a HW???

Kevin: Can you please stop responding to my posts? I would prefer that you never address me again!

LOL ok Buddy, if you don’t want obvious answers to questions, grab a little bit of knowledge of how the UFC (Dana White) does business and you won’t get answers to questions
OK PAL!!
by kevin on Apr 10, 2008 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Here’s an obvious answer to your question. Although the UFC does not cross promote, they promote the best of all MMA organizations. They also do more to expand the sport than all other organizations combined. So even if the HW division is hurting, they offer a fighter the most exposure. And as we all know, perception= value. To the casual (and to some extent the serious) MMA fan, the UFC is PERCEIVED to be the best. So to hold the belt in the UFC increases one’s value. Are you saying Big Nog is not a legitimate top 10 guy?
by chefdaddy on Apr 11, 2008 7:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If they can borrow Antonio Silva to fight Alex, that would be sweet.

noooo, does this mean Arlovski is out?!? i can’t believe this, we’ll have to see nogueira vs herring for the 4th time?!? they might as well get rid of the HW division in the UFC…hehe a little over board, but right now it totally sucks, and Kongo didn’t help us much by not KOing the crazy horse…damnn!

I pass along all the worthy news that I come across.
I think Dallas is only going to get an event if Cuban is involved and I really dont know if he has anything to do with this event.
I also hear that the grappling match between Kurt Angle vs. Couture will take place in Calafornia.
BTW More money in Greed Couture’s pockets. He signed an exclusive deal with everlast

i think eventually muscle bound fighters will eventually be phased out. This sport is evolving so fast that i think fighters relying on their strength will fail more and more over the next couple of years
by alexguy on Apr 10, 2008 2:15 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
case and point: houston alexander.
also, notice how several of the pride fighters switched camps when they came to the UFC and trained hard but still lost muscle mass. it just doesn’t make sense to carry that much muscle into a fight unless you want to hold someone down for a decision. cough SHERK cough.

im rooting for bj but i think sean sherk will win bj dosent do good against big burt steroid users and look at sherks cardio vs bj penn thats y he lost against matt hughes his cardio sucks i hope he rain 25 thousand miles he will nedd cause shaen sherk dosent waist energy laining and prayin lol.
by shawn on Apr 10, 2008 2:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
the pride guys didnt lose muscle mass to become better fighters
its because they can no longer take steroids hgh and other supplements which dont appear to have been tested for in pride
in the open weight grand prix wanderlei was huge 230lbs +
but now all of a sudden hes undersized at LHW and may drop to 185
rua looked way out of shape too although in his case he just looked like he had spent six months sitting on a beach eating junk food rather than training
by nate diaz on Apr 10, 2008 2:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
certainly some of the fighters in PRIDE were using, but the same is true for the UFC. No doubt many of the fighters lost weight by switching camps, too.
by Clayton on Apr 10, 2008 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m going to play devils advocate and say a couple things. First 31-2 is a nasty record (21 he FINISHED) and those 2 loses come to Matt Hughes and GSP. Secondly I bet everyone that posted talking about his roid usage could inject their body weight in HGH and train their whole life and NEVER complete a workout schedule like this. BJ penn with a 12-4-1 record has 3 decisions making his 25% decision wins next to sean’s 32% (in a MUCH more active career) seem pointless. BJ has beat jens pulver and stevenson in his last two fights and lost the 2 before that, WHO CARES about his last two wins? The LW devision is stacked and most people cant stop kissing BJ. Im not a huge fan of either fighter but Penn cardio is a JOKE and he is simply over hyped. Its just so easy for the rest of the clever funny posters so sit at home and right down cute roid jokes then come to the reality of bj’s lackluster record and pathetic training attitude.
by MMAsubb on Apr 10, 2008 2:50 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The difference in records you neglect is the level of competition. BJ’s record is a virtual who’s who of quality fighters in two weight divisions. Sean’s is a who’s who of MMA nobodies and a few worthy TUF alumni who he beat early in their careers when they were inexperienced. He lost to the only two top tier fighters (possibly exluding Karo), both guys who BJ beat or was beating before he gased. Don’t get me wrong, Sherck is a solid fighter, but he’s not even in BJ’s class, and the fact that he’s dominated at LW is a discredit to the division. Comparing mere numbers won’t change that. If BJ can finally learn his lesson, which it appears he has, and maintain good cardio, he is one of the best p4p fighters in the world.
Re: the roids issue, I agree. It annoys the crap out of me. It’s not heard to believe that a guy who trains like this has heightened levels of Nano-whatever and such a physique. A physique he’s had for YEARS while passing tests.
by Clayton on Apr 10, 2008 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Posted a response earlier, but it seems to have been lost. Anyway, your numbers are just numbers. Sherk can’t finish or beat top competition. His record is a who’s who of MMA nobodies. He’s lost to the only two top tier competitors he’s faced, and BJ beat or was beating those guys before he gased. Fixing cardio is simple, and BJ seems to have turned a page with his cardio. BJ’s record is a who’s who of top talent, and he’s done a fantastyic job of fighting the elite with some of the worst cardio in the game. He’s that good. If he can maintain his cardio, it’s hard to argue that he’s not one of the best p4p in the world.
by Clayton on Apr 10, 2008 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
hey guy, nice try twisting the numbers. since you can’t finish the guys that you didn’t win in the first place, the losses shouldn’t even be part of the equation.
BJ finished 9/12 wins which puts him @ 75%.
Sherk finished 21/31 wins which puts him @ 67%.
lets take it a step further with quality of competition comparison. Of those finishes, here goes the top5 guys each finished.
BJ – Hughes, Gomi, Stevenson, Pulver, Uno
Sherk – Karo (in’01,towel), Farber, ?, ?, ?
(bunch of uknowns, many with losing records)
Lets look at the losses… BJ did beat 2 of the guys he lost to.
BJ – Hughes, GSP, Machida(Heavyweight), Pulver
Sherk – Hughes, GSP
you’re right, sherk has a really impressive record and theres no denying that he’s strong, has great work ethic, “nutrition” and cardio. you should go put some money on him since you’re so sure he’ll win. i gotta admit your write up was convincing and a good read.
by kama kaze on Apr 10, 2008 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sherk beat Karo when Karo was a teenager. That’s as much cred as beating an aging Ken Shamrock.

Who has Sherk finished at the UFC level?
by Aaron_W on Apr 11, 2008 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
BJ has recognized that conditioning was his weak link and you can tell he’s made a major adjustment based on how he looked against Stevenson, who would have been a serious challenge for Sherk. BJ tore through him like he wasn’t even there. He looked tired after the fight not during it, due to the adrenaline dump of having won the title. Sherk, for all his conditioning strength, is a smaller version of Matt Hughes without the submission skills. And look how BJ fared against him. Owned him completely the first fight and was dominating the second until the rib injury. GSP didn’t exactly run roughshod over BJ when they fought, either, and he destroyed Sherk. In fact, BJ sent GSP to the hospital while emerging unscathed himself. Sherk has never had to deal with a submission master like Penn. He’s gonna get caught.

THIS JUST IN
GSP and sherk (who cares) are going to be negotiating with other organizations…Frank Trigg stated this on the radio. He said this ban on affliction affected half of the fighters in the UFC and is a main reason for Tim Silvia leaving…any thoughts

looks like the UFC’s attempt at a rear naked on the world of MMA is starting to blow up in their faces. If they had allowed healthy competition earlier, these fighters with inflated market value wouldn’t be ready to run to other org’s and those other org.‘s wouldn’t be willing to pay top dollar to draw them away just for some attention.
by Clayton on Apr 10, 2008 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nah man, I wouldnt put much weight on much that Trigg says, the dude is mad cuz he burned his bridges with the UFC long ago, adn they left on a bitter foot I believe.
by The Anomaly on Apr 10, 2008 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
GSP can’t sign a contract with another organization unless he loses to Serra. Or beats him then loses the title to someone else. Same as Randy’s situation. Sounds as if Trigg is trying to keep himself relevant until he signs his deal with WWE.

Trust me, I completely agree with everything you said Revjames. I just think over all sherk takes A LOT of flak even though he is a very profession and nice family man and has one of the best records the sport has EVER scene and its just crazy how many people love to jump on the love to hate sherk bandwagon. Penn always looks great the first 2 rounds, he is soooo scary on the ground and his striking is more than solid, but it just seems like if his opponent makes it out of the 2nd he has a hard time. that and a very cocky fighter, granted he definitely has the skill to back it up, he talks like he has fedor’s record! just throwing out food for though haha
by MMAsubb on Apr 10, 2008 3:33 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i guess the ultimate test for BJ’s cardio will come when he faces the guy with some of the best cardio in the game. If it’s there, Sherck’s in trouble.
by Clayton on Apr 10, 2008 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
First…..Sherk is going to destroy Penn, thats right destroy!!!!!!
Second…. if that dream card happens, thats just crazy, especially if Rizzo wins the Yammy tourny too, not to mention it will be aired on HDnet
Third….. (NOT WHO CARES….Kevin) r u crazy if GSP and Sherk leave the UFC , it could start an avalanche of other top fighters leaving, and dream would take over the UFC with even bigger cards then the one they might put on in july…….
by Bruce on Apr 10, 2008 3:56 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I said who cares to “steroid” Sherk!! And you’re crazy if you think Sherk will get past the second round with BJ, and the main reason I’d hate to see GSP leave is then I wouldn’t get the opportunity to see BJ destroy him too.
If top fighters leave, you have one man to blame, and it sucks, because it’s the same man who put mma on the map (Dana), but he needs to get his head out of his ass and start thinking of his brand and his fighters, not just his personal vendettas against anyone who disagrees with him!!
by kevin on Apr 10, 2008 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yup, the only thing i need to see GSP do before he leaves the UFC is step into the octagon again with BJ, i dont care about anything else when it comes to GSP, lose to serra again and i wont even want to see him fight BJ.
by ( (Adam G) ) on Apr 10, 2008 4:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Guess you don’t wanna see him beat BJ then…He can beat wrestlers (hughes, koscheck) but anyone with some striking ability or BJJ better than his, and he’s in trouble

Hey Kevin,
Maybe a legitimate HW would want to be in the UFC b/c that’s where the most money and exposure are… oh yeah, and I don’t think they’ve bounced any checks yet have they?
I’m all for cross promotion too, but don’t just be a blind UFC basher.
by TeamPriapism on Apr 10, 2008 5:29 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m a huge UFC fan 9Got a full dvr to prove it), but that doesn’t mean their HW division is good. I guess Brock lesner getting all that money to lose was worth it huh, he’s the future of the HW division. If thats where the most money is, explain to me why the HW’s who have left are making more elsewhere??? Elite is moving up fast and it sounds like HDNET has a monster card coming up…

Everything is wrong in this post, for one, BJ penn is considered my MOST to be a contendar with Anderson S for Top P4P, followed by GSP.
And for two, alhtough the competition in lightweight is good, it is nowhere near Sherk’s and Penn’s level, Sherk showed that by UD’ing the other LW (Florian) that has run threw the other LW’s. After Penn adn SHerk, I put the LW title in the same boat as the MW, in termoil due to no real competition left for Penn.

The guy was a freak before the roid thing and hes still a freak. He may be boring to watch but he wins by being boring so its all good to him. I dont know whos gonna win cause it really depends which version of each guy shows up, even then its just a guess. I think BJ has the advantage but I wouldnt be shocked if Sherk takes it. Let the guy fight and test, if hes clean get off his back.

Sherk was never proven guilty, passed a lie detector test, and the tests he “failed” were from Quest labs ; the same place that Phil Baroni supposedly “failed from” , when he had a ridiculous mountain of evidence to support his evidence. What happen to Sherk was ridiculous, and you guys should be ashamed of yourself for assuming his guilt.
Maybe he did, Maybe he didn’t ? But not even getting a fair trail from the ultra corrupt California board certainly taints my point of view.
Sherk says he didn’t take them, he’s a man of honor, I respect that and believe him. The people in his camp stand by him 100%, Nick Thompson has stated repeatedly that he never say him use.
BJ – Sherk will be a great fight, and we’ll see who the real champ is.

you guys are idiots…..first of all u step in the cage. u all talk shit about people and steriods but none of u have ever been a high level athlete. guess what morons, 90% of NFL are on steroids. a ton of MLB players were proven to be on them…and do u think that the only people that were caught were using them?!!? pride didnt test for juice and did u happen to notice what happened to most of the pride fighters when they fought in the UFC?? its funny how everyone talks about sherk but what about the last time he defended his title against hermes franca??? franca is an absolute stud and bjj black belt and sherk dominated his ass for 5 rounds. oh yeah i forgat…franca also tested postive for steroids. so before u guys run your mouth about one guy using steroids then u better think about everyone else. because a huge majority of professional athletes have been on them. look at lebron james, u think an 18 yr kid was built like that? the list goes on and on. the williams sisters? wrestlers, boxers, bodybuilders, and yes even golfers. its their body to do what they please. u step into the cage. skinny ken florian would whip ur shit talking ass…and im sure hes even tried them.
