Terry Etim vs. Rob Emerson fight rounds out UFC 84 card

Lightweights Terry Etim (10-1) and Rob Emerson (7-6) are confirmed to battle it out for three rounds on the UFC 84: "Ill Will" undercard at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 24, according to UFC.com.
Emerson is a former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5, winning his first official fight inside the Octagon his last time out against Keita Nakamura at UFC 81: "Breaking Point" via split decision back in February 2008.
Prior to that Emerson — who has been connected with (and served jail time because of) a gang dubbed "The Lords of South County"— was involved in a bizarre simultaneous knockout/submission against Gray Maynard at TUF 5 Finale.
Etim is a British product who has an even record (1-1) with the promotion, losing to Gleison Tibau most recently via unanimous decision at UFC 75: "Champion vs. Champion" in September 2007. He also submitted Matt Grice (guillotine choke) at UFC 70: "Nations Collide" in his debut last year.
This latest announcement confirms the bouts slated for UFC 84, which features the 155-pound doozy between reigning champion, BJ Penn, and former belt keeper, Sean Sherk, as the main event of the evening. Wanderlei Silva, Keith Jardine, Tito Ortiz and Lyoto Machida round a very impressive night of fights.
Here's the complete line up:

Main card (televised):
205 lbs.: Wanderlei Silva (31-8-1) vs. Keith Jardine (13-3-1)

emerson is a joke. he’s been given so many chances. i don’t get what people see in him. UFC should drop him.

I wish they would have mixed up some of these LHW matches, like Gouveia vs Thiago, but it is still a sweet card. I will be there with a beer in my hand and a smile on my face.

Lords of the South County? LMFAO!!! People connected to gangs in any way are complete douchebags, but I bet those fairies cruise the local mall looking for “trouble”.

I hope Penn destroys Sherk, I really dont like that guy. Instead of “ground and pound”, he utilizes “ground and lay on the guy until the round ends”.
Penn submission win in round 3. :)

South Orange County is one of the richest communities in the USA. What a douche!

ok we all know bj is going to beat sherk all over the octagon.
but i really, REALLY hope tito destroys machida!! god i hate the way he(machida) fights and i hate watching his fights. don’t get me wrong, when it comes to personalities, i think machida is WAY more respectable than tito. tito needs to learn to stop talking so much shit. with that said, i still want tito to win.

I think this will be the best card of the year. Im the most excited about this card for sure.
I really like watching machhida, even though he doesnt really excite alot of people. And i think jardine/wanderlei will be the fight of the night. Who cares who wins?!

If BJ gets sherks back once in this fight hes screwed, because he will use his leg to hold down sherks arm like he do to Joe and Jens. Penn round 2 or 3 RNC!!!!

I still hope tito 10 pound head gets kicked off his shoulders

Great card – I think BJ will prove he is in a much more consistent place than at any other point in his career.
Tito is now merely a gatekeeper of that division. If Machida wins he is right in the reckoning – (although surely Chuck or a victorious Wanderlei will be next in line being as UFC pay them too much to beat up cans)
I will be interested to see if Sokoudjou can bounce back, he was being touted as having some serious talent before getting crushed Vs Machida.
If Wanderlei loses he is no mans land (same as CroCop found himself)and will be having serious contract talks with Dana.

Emerson has no place in the ring. Anyone that picks a fight outside the ring needs a year suspension at least.

Good card, but it would have been so much better if they made it Soko/Thiago Silva, Gouveia/Silva, or Soko/Gouveia.
Soko shouldn’t be on the undercard. He’s still top ten in the division.
It’s like the UFC realized they had potential to make one of the greatest cards in history, and they’re settling for making it a “better than good” card.
by R-Dizzle on Apr 7, 2008 2:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Soko should not be on the undercard. 1st off all, Soko should be fighting Tiago or even gouveia.
Expect a dominating performance at of Sokoudjou against an under rated Nakamura. Machida is one of the most unique fighters in the UFC and a very tough 1st opponent for any PRIDE fighter transitioning into the UFC. Also Soko overtrained for that fight and the jitters got to him.
I expect him to get right back on track after dominating Nakamura.
This is a very good card, but if the UFC wouuld have mixed and matched fighters better, this card could have been a classic.
I hope that the UFC debut of brazilian middleweight submissiopn machine gets televised. Mark my words, this kat is going ti be a force in the middleweight division.
Also many of you probably arent too familiar with Tiago Siulva’s opponent, Antonio Mendez. Dont sleep on Mendez, he is
14-2 and had a very impressive win over “Baby Fedor” Kiril. He is a great addition to the UFC and as much as I love Tiago Silva….I am calling “UPSET Alert” for this fight! I hope I am wrong because I love Tiago and I want him to keep climbing the LHW ladder.
win or loose, you will all be very impressed with Antonio Mendez.
The main card coul be better. For example:
BJ Penn vs. Sherk
Wanderlie vs. Jardine
Ortiz vs. Machida
Gouveia vs. Tiago Silva
Sokoudjou vs. Nakamura
and then all you would have to do would be match up Goran Reljic vs. Antonio Mendez and put that on the undercard

Yeah I was pretty upset with how they arranged the fights in the end myself, but now that I look at it, it’s still a good card. I hope Wandy knocks off Jardine’s face.

Lets imagine Rampage beats Griffin.
Thiago, Wandy and Machida win. Henderson and Shogun both seems to need a big win, Chuck has been comprehensively slammed by Rampage twice. Who does Rampage fight next? Given that Wandy has beaten him twice I assume that would be the next bout….?

This Etim kid is a pretty good fighter…I look forward to watching him destroy Emerson. I can’t believe the UFC has this guy on the roster…his last fight was shit and he was shit on TUF. Funny how they keep him around and let go of guys who actually have some talent.
Sherk will destroy Penn. I like them both, but I think Sherk has more to prove in this one. To those who accuse Sherk of Lay and Pray, watch his fights (and I don’t mean Sherk/Florian). He’s a killer, and he’ll frustrate Penn.
I see Wandy knocking Jardine out..
Tito and Machida will be an awesome fight. I don’t care for the baggage that Tito brings, but come on poeple, the guy’s still a legit fighter.
T. Silva will be one step closer to a title shot after this one…
And to those arguing that Sokou is top ten, are you f…ing nuts? Top twenty mabye…and yes, he’ll win this fight too.

i’m glad to see thiago still on the televised card. i was worried that because he wasn’t fighting rashad anymore that they might not televise it. good that they did.

I actually pulled for Emerson throughout the TUF show and in his fight with Maynard only to see this crap with the “Lords of South County.” Moving forward Emerson has given me someone other than Karo to root against. Seriously, this is some punk shit and I look forward to seeing him get his ass handed to him on a regular basis.

good fight, emerson will get taken out in this one then maybe he’ll leave the ufc and go to wec or something.

Screw him…he and his bitch ass buddies jumped two guys at a gas station for no reason. Then his buddy’s dad bitched and complained to the Judge. POS if you ask me. Yeah he only did that crap in Orange Co, and avoided going up the I-405 freeway, 30min away to Compton and Long Beach. I think one of the victims is permanently injured. Dana White, you need to release this bum.

i agree with John about the main card could be better. i liked all your adjustments.
i dont care about his personal life. i just want to see him fight. i hope Emerson wins this fight.
1 of the undercard fights i would like to see is the WARMACHINE Jon Koppenhaver. it doesnt matter who hes fighting,it will be a good fight. no disrespect to Yoshida .

the Silva – Jardine fight is gonna be awesome. i dont care who wins.
im also real interested in the A.Mendes – T. Silva fight.
i dont like machida or tito so i dont care about this fight, but i will watch and hope that it doesnt go to the judges.
i also would like to see Salaverry vs. Palhares .
